Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football as our brand new partner game for the 2017/18 season.

While this may be a new game to many of you, Yahoo is, of course, a hugely well-known and trusted name. They were also one of the first to pioneer an online Fantasy Football game, with their season-long game one of the most engaging around.

Now Yahoo have returned with a daily Fantasy sports offering that we will be covering throughout the season.

That also means we will be able to present you with some fantastic offers, including a huge free-to-play half-season tournament with over £40,000 in prizes and perhaps even the chance to win £1 million. No, really. More on that later this week.

Yahoo are also providing a superb introductory offer for our visitors whereby, if you deposit £5, you’ll get a free £50 credited to your account. See the foot of this article for details on how to sign up and get started.

What is Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football?

If you’ve played any daily Fantasy Football or “DFS†games before, you will be instantly familiar with the concept of the Yahoo game.

You have £200 million to build a team of 11 players that you can enter in a variety of contests that are either free to play or have an entry fee with cash prizes on offer.

Each player has a value assigned which changes week-to-week based on their performance and popularity in the previous Gameweek.

The scoring system is more detailed than both Fantasy Premier League and Sky Sports – but that’s a good thing. Based on Opta data, the scoring brings a wider range of players into the mix, including those often-neglected defensive midfielders.

We will have an in-depth article, examining the nuances of the scoring system, very soon.

Yahoo’s contests allow you to tinker with your line-ups right up until kick-off, so you can monitor teamsheets and use the “late swap†feature to swoop for bargains and remove absent players.

Week to week, we will be bringing you our Yahoo Focus articles to help steer the nucleus of your XI for the weekend contests.

Why Should I play?

While so much of the Yahoo game is familiar and easy to grasp, it’s very different in a number of key ways – not least because it is very friendly for new players.

The game operates a “Fair Play†policy, with many of their contests allowing just a single-team entry, while others allow only up to ten teams per user. This levels the playing field and increases the chances that new players can compete for prizes.

There are also “no veterans†or “rookie only†contests which allow you to play and learn the game before taking on experienced managers in bigger contests. However, if you become a seasoned player, you can, of course, take part in contests that allow 50+ teams.

As mentioned, the scoring system is also finely balanced and perfectly suited to our visitors.

We are all familiar with Opta data and, if you’ve got yourself a Fantasy Football scout membership, you already have access to statistics and tools to help you select teams in the Yahoo game. We’re even building custom tables and will be implementing player prices into those tables in the coming weeks.

The Yahoo game is also fully localised for a UK audience. That may sound like a small thing but, with other daily games talking in dollars and asking you to build “rostersâ€, it’s nonetheless a welcome touch.

The other main reason to play is that the game has a huge range of contests for all players. There are free-to-play games, contests with entry fees as small as 25p right up to £1,000 for the high rollers.

You can register now and compete in the Gameweek 1 £10k contest that offers a £2k top prize for a £5 entry fee.

How Do I Start?

Yahoo’s Gameweek 1 contests are up and running so you can register an account and get started immediately.

As mentioned, if you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used in-game.

  • Register here
  • Deposit £5 or more and use the code FANTASY50 to claim your £50 credit
  • Choose a contest and start selecting your first Yahoo squad.

Later this week we will bring you news of the huge Fantasy Football Scout Yahoo Cup contest, which is free to play and with £50k in prizes.

Look out for details of that and further articles on the Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football game to come before August 11.

You must be over 18 years of age, resident in the UK, and of legal capacity to register with Yahoo Daily Sports and open an Account. If you sign up, please always play responsibly.

pretty good except i don't like Defoe this year cos he's 34 and might not play that much + he finished last season poorly iirc , i'd personally swap him for Benteke for the same price since you don't have Zaha

I've done teams with both Benteke and Zaha. I do think Benteke will continue to do well this season.

I was tempted to downgrade someone in defence to free support some cash and swap Defoe for mane and go 442.

        2. lugs
          • 8 Years
          8 years, 4 months ago

so do i , but the problem with doubling up is that if the team fires a blank then you're taking a double hit , so its risky , especially with a mid-bottom half team like palace

          1. Kippers
            • 9 Years
            8 years, 4 months ago

Yeah... I learnt this the hard way last year.

I'm happy with my 4 in defence but if I could pick one to downgrade to get mane I would in a heartbeat.

            1. lugs
              • 8 Years
              8 years, 4 months ago

i'd have no problem doubling up with salah and mane , cos liverpool will probably score 100 goals this season and they'll get a large % of them , a team like palace though is a different story

                8 years, 4 months ago

That's the tough one.. Both or only one of them. For me if I had to only pick one it was be sane. He's proved himself in the PL.

Wait a minute. Your team is not possible. When I put it together, I'm putting in a bench of Gk 4.0 Def 4.0 Mid 4.5 4.5, and it leaves me 2mil short with the cheapest bench possible

tbh although Jones is nailed for the first few GWs, he is no attacking threat nor a bonus magnet...and neither is Milli a great PPM player...since chelsea's fixtures are not great, id say for now stick to only willian from them and downgrade alonso...and upgrade elsewhere...just a suggestion though...

Too much uncertainty in your lineup
          Alonso Jones Austin

Mili is meh.. Willian is short term... Salah could be rotated although I have him and will keep but in your lineup it will be fatal to have all these players...

Didn't Chelsea loose every pre season game one year then win like 5 or 6 games staright when the PL started.

Not sure Saints result with so many subs and not first choice def tells us much.

4 years of an average of 14 cs per season no matter the personnel and great fixtures mean they are great picks early on to me at least.

I like the minefield - some great choices in there although beware the rot at Liverpud with CL fixtures.
The D with doubling up on UTD would worry me. Berty - look for the cheapest way into a D.
Not keen on the front 3 and Abraham is a waste of a space.

    Mitrovic - one to watch?

Seems a lot of people are looking for a 3rd striker that offers value. Newcastle seem to offer potential value should the popular pick Charlie Austin fail to secure a place in Southampton's starting lineup. Below I've taken preseason minutes and returns to give a simple breakdown and any information that might be useful in suggesting who starts

Opening 6 fixtures: TOT, hud, WHM, swa, STO, bri

    Dwight Gayle (£6.5m)
    Starts: 2
    Appearances: 5
    Minutes: 225
    Returns: 3 goals, 1 assist

    Ayoze Perez (£5.5m)
    Starts: 2
    Appearances: 5
    Minutes: 237
    Returns: 0

    Aleksandar Mitrovic (£5.0m)
    Starts: 3
    Appearances: 5
    Minutes: 225
    Returns: 3 goals

Benitez opted for a 4-4-1-1 last season, with Diame or Perez in the hole and Gayle leading the line for the majority of the season (bar injury). In short, I think he will continue with this formation, though it is hard to ignore that both his strikers are firing well in preseason, where his attacking midfielders are struggling to create a spark. Ideally, if he changed to a 4-4-2, we could be onto a winner with Mitrovic.

The wingers in Ritchie, Atsu and Murphy have pace and like to cross so having a big target man like Mitrovic (6''2) who is good in the air, alongside a typical poacher in Gayle (5''8) who scored hardly any of his 23 goals last season with his head (most coming from around the 6 yard box) could stand to Newcastle's advantage early on until they sign a new striker.

Alternatively Benitez could stick to 4-4-1-1 and trial Diame in the hole with Gayle up top like last season, considering he has Shelvey and Merino to play CM. However, Benitez has used Diame deeper throughout preseason, so it seems the midfield 3 will battle for two places. In my opinion, Shelvey will get a CM spot allowing him to move forward to attack/ create, with Merino and Diame fighting for the more defensive position. Isaac Hayden is also there as an option.

Though it's possible Newcastle might trial a 3-5-2 like they worked on briefly last season, it has not been done in preseason so far. With one game remaining, hopefully the lineups and Benitez' interview can give us some indication about Mitrovic's chances of starting the new campaign.

TL;DR - Gayle is certain to start, and at £6.5m makes an easy alternative to Austin should we need a backup plan. There are a few factors that hinge on whether Mitrovic gets a place in the starting 11 that might become clear in Newcastle's last preseason match. Definitely one to watch for a mere £5.0m as that extra cash can be reinvested elsewhere.

I'm avoiding Newcastle ATM but I've seen Atsu in real life in 2 championship games last season and he impressed me.
He'd be my pick when they have a good run of fixtures and if Rafa has him nailed.

    Felt this earns more discussion.

Seems to be a common question:

    A. Kane + 7m mid (Zaha/Willian/Fabregas) (4 big hitters in attack)

    OR

    B. Jesus + 9m mid (Coutinho/Salah) or stretch to Alli/Mane/Eriksen (5 big hitters in attack)

Imagine I will captain Kane most weeks, so will go A with Willian for that reason
(believe both options will score similarly)

Fair point. However 5 big hitters should give you a nice captain every gw. Not always as good as Kane though I guess.

Only Lukaku and Aguero (wont include Alexis) even comes close as a cap options imo. But I dont trust Pep and Aguero appears to have lost penalty duties. Mourinho likes to shut up shop while up 1 or 2 goals and Lukaku might not be on pens.

Kane is unique and so valuable as a captian option because:
          - Is on pens
          - Is on close range FKs
          - 100% nailed
          - Doesn't get subbed
          - Spurs are capable of trashing teams
          - Avg. 0.9 goals per game vs non-top6 opposition over the last 3 yrs

There will definitely be other viable candidates but none come close to Harry imo

Hello Boys, Girls & Others 😎

I haven't been paying much attention to preseason games the only game I have watched was City destroying Spurs. Have I missed anything? Is Pogba now essential with the signing of Matic or are we just kidding ourselves that Pogba is anything but a average player? How is the Liverpool conundrum coming on? Is Salah really the choosen one? Are we all now going to avoid Spuds players as they did look hopeless against City

It probably wont ever happen, but you know everyone is always asking RMT. It would be good if in the post comment box there was an option at the bottom which said RMT and when you clicked it you could choose your players from the list and your post will be a visual instead of text, so basically a mini version of Pick team on the fantasy site.
And maybe some voting method so like on the side of the website you could see the most voted RMTs from the last 24 hours etc

Fair bit of work to implement that though but it would be pretty cool.

Doesn't mean there can't be a chat room too. This is a very ineffiecient chat room essentially. I don't have any solutions, I just said "like a forum", but I would certainly find it useful to have related information in one place. We can't accumulate knowledge very easily on this website, except via community articles, but people simple read them, comment, and never return.

Yup, the more effort you put into posting something useful, the more frustrating it is when the page turns and it vanishes into irrelavance. What's everyone's opinion on Spurs players at the moment, haven't had a great pre season (not that, that's all I judge players by) tempted to go with Alli or eriksen to start and then move up to Kane if he plays well in the first two games.
Finally what's your opinions on son... not nailed but brilliant player and could be a steal into the Spurs attack if he cements his place and continues last years form, especially if Kane gets injured he's much the preferred replacement over jansen now.

      Spurs

Liverpool rotation risks in GW1 and 2 and then tough fixtures 3 & 4
      vs
Alli & Kane high ownership and explosiveness mitigates the Wembley factor for me. Would get one of Alli or Kane to cover back think you can wait on Liverpool mids.

Please let me know, how bad is this?

    de Gea (Elliot)
    Alonso, Kolasinac, Alex-Arnold (Suttner, Hudson)
de Bruyne, Mané, Ward-Prowse, Milivojevic (Carroll)
    Lukaku, Jesus, Defoe

Upgrade Alex-Arnold and Ward-Prowse to Yoshida and Tadic by downgrading Defoe to Austin?

It’s obviously a risk going without Spurs, but I think both de Bruyne and Mané will outscore the Spurs midfielders. And I don’t think Kane is worth £1.0 more than Lukaku since the latter has better fixtures.

So you think Defoe is a poor choice?

I just think over priced and question marks. Will he be on pens? Will he start every game? Granted he will do decent. But for 8m i want guarantees

    Alli, Salah, Willian, Ritchie (McArthur)
    Lukaku, Defoe, Benteke

Cheers, bud. Going to go with Valencia for first few gameweeks with the intention of transferring in Milner (if he gets gametime and Liverpool sort out their defence).

        Thanks, mate.

I've always been an advocate of 3-5-2 - tempted to continue and swap Defoe & McArthur to Zaha & Abrahams. What do you think?

Ignoring 3-4-3 vs 3-5-2, Zaha wins over Defoe for me

Yeah, it's tempting. Although Defoe could/should be on pens for Bournemouth, and I've already decided on Benteke so not keen to double up.

Perhaps pick a £4.0 defender with lower ownership to avoid price loss?

And what about finding £0.5 to upgrade Alli to de Bruyne? Foster or Hart to Elliot, for instance.

Other than that it looks good. You think Benteke will have score more this season?

        Cheers, mate.

Personally, I prefer Alli over De Bruyne — he's the new Lampard (goal scoring midfielder) for me.

I think Benteke will be around the 15 goal mark for the season. Mainly have him for the opening fixtures because Huddersfields defence is dreadful and Benteke loves scoring against Liverpool with 6 goals in 7 games against them, and 5 goals in 3 aways games at Anfield.

Haha, I know, mate. Sorry for that. He's definitely a short term pick until Hazard and Pedro are back.
