In our first article assessing the Sky Sports Fantasy Football player list, we roll out our top targets for the tricky goalkeeper position.

Typically, goalkeepers grant us better value for money than their defensive counterparts.

They tend to come in at a lower price, offer an extra two points for clean sheets and also find bonus points easier to accrue in the shape of saves.

As our Overhaul article mentioned, we will look at five keepers who should be in your thoughts prior to the first squad refresh, which arrives after Gameweek 3.

We aim to reassess and bring you some longer-term options during the international break, prior to Gameweek 4 when the Overhaul is available and active.

The Picks

David de Gea – 8.0 – 10.01%. Fixtures: WHU swa LEI
The most expensive keeper in the game can justify that price tag due to a favourable three opening matches. Cheaper than any assured Manchester United defender, De Gea offers the cheapest route into their rearguard and a security of starts. While save points may be scarce – he only managed an additional six points this way last season – it’s the allure of nine-point clean sheet returns that make him a stand-out pick.

Fraser Forster – 6.7 – 12.67% Fixtures: SWA WHU hud
Great opening matches, including back-to-back home encounter, strengthen Forster’s claim. There is uncertainty around the likely starting defenders for Saints at the moment, with a new manager in charge and the protracted speculation surrounding Virgil van Dijk, so Forster offers us a secure pick. And if some of the cheaper defensive options, such as Jack Stephens (6.5) and Jeremy Pied (6.0) look like starting, then a double (or even triple-up) may be a viable tactic given that Southampton have consistently offered around 14 clean sheets a season for the last four years.

Ben Foster – 6.4 – 3.32% Fixtures: BOU bur STK
A budget-friendly candidate, Foster picked up 20 points in save bonus and a couple of Man of The Match awards in 2016/17. Although West Brom mustered just six shutouts last season, you would expect Tony Pulis’ side to improve that tally this time out. The addition of the six foot four inch Ahmed Hegazi (priced at 6.2), could also offer us a very cost effective way into their kind opening matches, although his start is far from assured.

Rob Elliot – 6.1 – 0.19% Fixtures: TOT hud WHU
While Elliot missed much last season due to injury, Newcastle United managed a very respectable 19 clean sheets in his absence in their promotion season. That number will certainly decrease in the top flight, although the opportunity for regular save bonus is a pleasing offset. The opening day visit of Spurs doesn’t look great for Elliot, though it may just catch Mauricio Pochettino’s men cold. A trip to Huddersfield and visit of West Ham to follow look far more promising. The Magpies are rumoured to be in the market for a new goalkeeper, though, so this will need monitoring. But any new signing may arrive after overhaul to leave us with an initial bargain.

Jonas Lossl – 5.7 – 0.31% Fixtures: cry NEW SOT
An ideal “enablerâ€, Huddersfield’s new number one is the cheapest starting keeper in the game and helps free up the cash to focus on attack. The Terriers also have three kind matches to open their campaign and, arguably, even one clean sheet in the first three could justify the pre-overhaul outlay. Indeed, with that in mind, some Fantasy managers may even consider doubling or tripling-up on Huddersfield defenders who also come in around the 6.0 mark. Lossl offers money saved and the likelihood that he’ll be the busiest stopper in the league.

Maybe Mane to Salah to give you a Southampton defender instead of Mee or Hegazi? Other than that pretty solid

I agree they've been poor pre season but think with a defensive manager and those fixtures that it's worthwhile, I could be wrong though!

Believe Zaha Salah and Kolasniac will outscore Mhiki Mane and Suttner. But solid team overall.

Def true on Kola but cant afford.

Disagree on Zaha as Palace are shite.

Mane vs. Salah is a tough one. Why Salah?

I didnt mean player for player. Those moves would allow you to get Kola.

So all players combined, I think they score better.
Would pick Mane over Salah in a vacuum

De Boer is building CPL around Zaha, putting him up front (hazard role) in 3-4-3 thus relieving him of defensive duties. Expect him to have a very high goal involvment even tough CPL are shit.

Any thoughts? Rotating Carroll, Suttner and Mitro (if nails down a spot) as my 11th player. Though I am considering Mane to Salah to do Long to Francis or Suttner to Daniels/Smith/Ake

    Begovic Elliot
    Alonso Trippier Yoshida Suttner Long
    KDB Eriksen Mane Atsu Carroll

    Bottomed

    A: Bertrand, Suttner, Ince
    B: Yoshida/cedric, 4.0, Zaha

Currently leaning towards A for the balance of my team (Suttner will come on for Daniels in gw 3+4)

A lot of comment praising Kane on being a captaincy pick. We can captain anyone in our teams, yet we always have a select number of players that we consider captaincy worthy.

Who do you guys think are "captaincy worthy"?

    1. Pirlø's Pen

Alonso against a team struggling for goals is captaincy worthy, most players 9.5m + I would captain if the time is right too.

The reliable options who score consistently and can score big. My captaincy record was shite first half of the season because I captained literally anyone. Afterwards I went safer with the big options and it turned out to be much better 🙂

Kane, Sanchez, Lukaku, Aguero, Lacazette etc

I'll throw in some of mine:

Personally I'd happily captain any mid/striker in decent form with a solid fixture but the main players I'd consider would be Kane, Alli Kun, Jesus, KDB, Lukaku, Sanchez, Mane (Though obviously you'd be fortunate to have the choice of 4/5 of them in your team)

Depends on form and fixtures. I capped Teke against Pool at the end of last season and it won me my mini league.

I think managers should obv have their go-tos but keep an open mind.

Like I commented on a previous post of yours I look for the following:

      - Nailedness
      - Not subject to early sub
      - Pens and/or close range FKs
      - Playing for a side capable of trashing teams
      - Focal point
      - Favorable Fixture

Not a ton of players fit the description. Manily Kane and Lukaku for me..

Not comparing like with like Mikhi got eased into the squad last season. He also did not play in the premier league before.
This is in direct contrast to Salah who will be crucial in liverpool's formation thier maquee signing. Also Salah has played in the Premier League before

Who are the cheap differentials in your team?
    5.6 - 6.5 FWD or MID

    Mine is Fraser.

Pretty settled on this 433 as my team:

    Gomes
    Alonso Bailly Trippier Yoshida
    San(C)hez Mané Miljovevic
    Lukaku Austin Lord Jesus

    Thoughts are appreciated 🙂

Thanks mate 🙂 I believe Spurs are likely to struggle, they're notorious slow starters, plus their opening fixtures are not easy. If they destroy Newcastle however, i'll go ahead and get my coat.

    RMT Please:

    Foster (Elliot)
    Danilo Trippier Kolasinic Bertrand (Hunemeier)
    Willian Zaha Mane Alli (RLC)
    Lukaku Jesus (Abraham)

Question is whether to downgrade kola to a 4.5 and upgrade Abraham to Chicharito or play 4 at the back.

    Cheers!

    Is this true---

Points for Charlie Daniels will be lower because of Bournemouth's stronger attack this year, thus he won't be needed as much going forward.

False. Bournemouth were a lot more conservative towards the end of the season and have brought in Begovic and Aké to stabilize at the back.

I just wonder if he gets caught in no-mans land...they score a lot of goals, but he's not really involved because they're stacked up front, but they also let in goals, so no clean sheets...
