Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, we move to focus on one of the key sources of Fantasy talent – Tottenham Hotspur.

We start by analysing their performance on a team level, assessing last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas improvement. Following that, we drill down into the player data, pinpointing the key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on two specific points of interest for Fantasy managers – assessing the Dele Alli versus Christian Eriksen conundrum, while weighing up the allure of Harry Kane as a “fire and forget” captaincy option.

It’s fair to say that Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed their mettle last season after a disastrous end to 2015/16 saw them pick up two points in the final four fixtures and tumble out of the title race.

Spurs improved their points haul from 70 to 86 and also scored far more goals than beforehand – a total of 86 was far superior to 69 in the previous campaign and more than any team in the top-flight.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

A lot of eggs in a couple of baskets. Not to say it won't work, but a flat start by Spurs or City and you'll be questioning your team in a big way.

Only ones I'm worried about are Lukaku and to a lesser extent Sanchez.
The spurs lads I have: Kane, Alli, and Trippier are all underpriced in my eyes and with good fixtures I won't be quick to transfer them out and I'm happy to be om their potentials.
The city ones: Jesus and KdB have every bit the talent to score big and often against minnows to start the season and I'm happy to be patient with them.
Lots of questions to be asked this season.
Many will be angry if BobbyF and Mane score while Cout and Salah miss out on points and vice versa.
If Jose keeps it tight and Lukaku is topped out at 1 goal just over every other game so that united are determined to keep cleanies than his owners will complains that he isn't a captaincy option.
With sanchez id love him but my team would just be gutted.

The way I see it, spurs players are all valuable because of their prices, good fixtures and class players only helps. If city goes off to an explosive world beating form and I have jesus as a viable captaincy option with KdB pulling the strings it'll come off perfectly.

Very happy with my picks and with where I've put my funds though I 100% see the case for spreading around a little more

Would you downgrade any of the above for a 6.0m or less MID and then upgrade another to Pogba with the extra 1.0m?

If yes- which moves would u recommend?

Absolutely gutted, not because I have any attachment to barca. It now feels football is heading to a direction of money. The move leaves a bad taste, I feel, towards the concept of 'the beautiful game'.

While I agree the game is beginning to turn too much towards money and that's a shame I domt think this is an example of that. This is in my eyes is a young player who may go om to be one of the very best looking to step into the spotlight and make a name for himself. If neymar delivers this year on either the wc or ucl he's put himself into a whole neither tier and this move gives him his only chance at getting a ball dor for a while.
It could be years from now that we look at this move amd say wow that's when his star really started to shine and we might appreciate him all the more. PSG may be spoiled rich but they are a very decent side and almost knocked out barca, be interesting to see what they do now. More competition in the most competitive leagues only enhances the beautiful game in my eyes.
And there's no club in the world who wouldn't have acted the same as PSG and done everything they could to get the one most marketable and talented players om the planet.

Good move for football fans, I know I'll be following ligue 1 more than Id ever before now

Could be... but Kane has played at Wembley several times of course... and we know he can score on he road. Everyone points outs his slow starts but he is better rested this summer so they could turn it on from the get go... promoted team in game one...
Meanwhile it is rotation central at City... and if you look at Jesus preseason shooting form it is prettty poor. Only KDB for me.

Is it dumb to have two defenders from same team? I have walker and cedric now, but could down grade walker and get bert and have an extra 1.0 to deal with

I like Walker but a bit expensive for me.

Would rather find another .5 and get Alonso if you are willing to spend 6.5 on Walker imo.

And agree prefer Kompany at 6.0

Ok here is a non team related question but game related... If players prices keep rising both in the game itself and these crazy transfer fees, at what point should the game have to increase the 100 mil budget?

    1. Ghost Gooner
      • 12 Years

Transfer fees have nothing to do with fpl.

That's sort of true but if expensive players keep coming into the league at some point they have to push the budget up no..?

You mean elite players joining the epl not expensive.

The budget stays the same imo with us players just having more choice. Whats the point of a large budget and then having an "all star team"

The UCL league fantasy has neymar, aguero, lewa, messi, suarez etc as fwrd options but the budget is still 100m

Yeah I guess that's true. Good point. It just seems that the well of budget players is drying up a bit and the price rises amongst the premium players is unbalancing the teams somewhat. It seems to me in the future they will have to raise the budget a little especially given the influx of players over the last few seasons has caused in season price changes to go a little crazy. Last season the market was nuts.

I blame the mid table teams poor recruitment.

Imagine if wes brom, stoke etc had young soon to be world class players like the 2 Dembele forwards, Mbappe etc. They would be 5.5-6.5 in their 1st seasons and getting 15-18 goals.

Even if he comes in for lets say 150 mil? The game doesn't take that into consideration when pricing players?

Transfer fee has no impact on fpl. Ibra was a free and was expensive. Kolasinac is a free but is more than Monreal.

Its about ability and the role a player is going fulfill for the team.

Even if Mbappe were to join at 150m he wouldnt bench kun and jesus. They would be a front 3 therefore he cant cost more than jesus. Kun is expensive because of his fpl pedigree

Four or five probably. I think you can perhaps stretch it to 8 but that's max. The single most important thing is that you do it with lads you trust will play to the very end because if someone drops out and stops playing halfway through then they will lock up all their players.

Fabianski looks the strongest 4.5 option from the GKs, consistently gets over 100 saves, keeps a good amount of clean sheets, farms bonus points, and has a random assist under his belt every 76 games or so 😉

    Foster

    trippier kompany daniels alexander-arnold

    willian fraser de bruyne

    kane lukaku jesus

    elliott loftus-cheek chalobah naughton

going with big hitters and having a rough bench but no doubt one of the big 4 will either get injured or be out of form so downgraded them and upgrading a couple of others will be easy.
Alternatively they all hit form and I keep. 🙂
