Our summer series of members’ articles – offering an in-depth team-by-team analysis of 2016/17 – continues with West Bromwich Albion.

To begin with, we’ll look at the performance levels over the team statistics in an attempt to spot trends or improvements.

We then delve into the player data, analysing the key individuals as we scour for early targets ahead of the new season.

In addition, we’ll check in on the Baggies’ threat from set-pieces, in particular, with their reliance on dead-ball situations remaining pivotal to their prospects.

West Brom certainly upped their attacking output in the previous season.

Pulis’ side netted a mere 34 goals – the second-worst record in the top-flight – on their way to finishing in fourteenth spot in 2015/6. Yet last term, they found the net on 43 occasions to claim tenth position.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

That's quite a big change, either zaha/willian to one of the £6m midfielders and use the £1 from that to upgrade defence? JWP at £5.5m is another option imo.

    Ryan Elliot
    Mee Daniels Bertrand Fosu-Mensu Dann
    William KDB Salah Carroll Chamboah
    Benteke Kane Lukaku.
Nothing in the bank. From here what would you do with the defence?
Obvious plan is 3-4-3 with carroll playing.

Really not sure why all the love all of a sudden for kolasinac, ok he came on as a sub against Chelsea and scored a header from a free kick, but apart from that what is there to get carried away with? he didn't carry out many interceptions or mazy runs down the wing? if anything he just blocked and fouled players? not sure why I would get him ahead of company or even monreal/Kos who will score more long term

In my draft team I can just about squeeze XI - but I have Trippier and first waiver option - rest of defense is DDG, Alonso, Kolasinac, Walker, Milner:

    Should I:

    A) stick with Trippier

    C) PVA
    D) Danillo

Man Utd simply not a scoring team. With or without Lukaku.
Had Zlatan last year and still only managed to score 54 goals. That is less than Bournemouth. Or about the same as Crystal Palace. Reckon Lukaku will share goals more in this team then in Everton.

    1 Chelsea (C) scored 85 goals
2 Tottenham Hotspur scored 86 goals
3 Manchester City scored 80 goals
    4 Liverpool scored 78 goals
    5 Arsenal scored 77 goals
6 Manchester United scored 54 goals
    7 Everton scored 62 goals

    Last season Man Utd scored:
    0 goals in: 8/38 games
    1 goal in: 14/38 games.
    2-3 goals in: 15/38 games.
    4 goals in: 1/38 games.

    Zlatan and Rooney out.
People to share goals with this season: Mkhitaryan, Rashford, Mata, Pogba, Martial, Lingard, Fellaini.

Oh, and last game at Old Trafford vs West Ham ended 1-1.

Ibra was no.1 by a huge margin in terms of big chances missed despite missing 12 matches. His conversion rate was lowest/second lowest in the top 5 league for players who scored 15+ goals.

United created lots of chances last season. They just couldn't finish it for some reason. It's also not hard to believe the likes of Martial/Mkhi will step up this season.

But then it's your team, feel free to go without Lukaku. 🙂

I am going three heavy strikers up top.
            Jesus - Kane - Aguero/Lukaku

I was at Old Trafford for that 0-0 game vs Hull.

            FULL-TIME MATCH STATS
            Possession: United 67% Hull 33%
            Shots: United 15 Hull 6
Shots on target: United 6 Hull 2
            Corners: United 7 Hull 1

I completely see where you are getting at though.

I broadly agree. Even with their summer signings I think they'll be winning by 1 or 2 in low scoring games, not by 3 or 4 like City and maybe Pool if they can keep Cout. However with over 50% ownership I'm not going without Kaku for the first couple of weeks at least, just to be safe.

Not for me. De Gea is 5.5 and gets save points. He's your best route in unless you can afford Valancia.

Just get Ben Davies if you want Trip replacement. Danny Rose is nowhere.

JWP vs Fraser seems to have one very distinct winner looking at the stats...

      and that winner is...

JWP didn't play as a number 10 last season, like he has in per season.

surely playing in the no.10 role will only improve his output?

I thought Fraser may be the winner, maybe I was wrong...

Mind sharing the stats that brought you to your conclusion?

    the REAL dilemma:

i cant see past LUKAKU JESUS and KANE on top. how to pick, OR could i manage to go with all up top?!?! of course this will mean sacrifices in the squad, but i will most likely make the wrong decisions on the less secure players anyway, and wouldn't it be sensible to gamble with those instead of the ones i feel has the most certainty to put up some real numbers? at least for the beginnig of the season?

    what do you think?

imean, compared to the midfield, the only one i REALLY want is KDB, with alli mane ans a playing sabchez ofc. also im ready to play carroll as he seems to be a nailed on offensive-ish player, and that seems to be rare from the start? im i convincing myself too much hahah

I agree. Mounie or J Rod for 3rd striker just doesn't cut it for me. I think I've managed a fairly balanced team, tho. I'll alternate between 3-4-3 and 4-3-3:

      Forster
      Kolasinac - Daniels - Hegazi
      Salah - Pogba - Ritchie - Milivojevic
      Kane - Lukaku - Jesus

      (Elliot - Carroll - Suttner - 4.0)

        works very well.
do consider atsu, jwp as well for rotation with carroll.

yes this looks way more balanced then mine! on the other side, here the problem is just shifted to midfield, so instead of one of those less attractive 7-ish strikers, you play ritchie and milli, which i personally dont fancy.

i also really want kola, but maybe he is disposable to upgrade one of them?

With three heavy you can monitor them and downgrade one to a 6-8m attacker and spread the other cash in midfield.

Ritchie is on pens, free-kicks, crosses, corners. He will be involved, especially at St James' Park. Also Carroll is amazing at that price.
