The 2017/18 season gets underway this evening as Arsenal entertain Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.

With last season’s top scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player Alexis Sanchez stuck on the sidelines through injury, the stage is set for new arrival Alexandre Lacazette to make an immediate impact.

Boasting an FPL ownership of 17%, he’s is the most popular Arsenal player after netting 28 times in Ligue 1 for Lyon last season.

Encouragingly for the hosts, Lacazette scored six goals in his last four opening day appearances in the French top division.

Fellow new arrival Sead Kolasinac also makes his Premier League bow tonight – he’s owned by 12% on the back of Sunday’s Community Shield strike against Chelsea.

With clashes against Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool also to follow in the first six Gameweeks, Leicester’s key assets have been mainly overlooked.

Only 4% have taken a punt on Jamie Vardy, who averaged a healthy seven points per appearance under Craig Shakespeare in the latter stages of 2016/17.

The Foxes also face promoted pair Brighton and Huddersfield over that period, though, affording us a chance to scout Vardy and new strike partner Kelechi Iheanacho as potential differentials up top.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Again, we learnt nothing in this match we didn't know already, except that he could have played LWB if Mertesacker played. If anything, he's a worse pick now than he was a few hours ago.

      21:02 Arsenal 2-3 Leicester

      Jermaine Jenas

Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

It's pretty simple - this Arsenal back three just can't defend crosses. There's not an Arsenal player laying a hand on Jamie Vardy.

Leicester deserve it - they really do. Only Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown anything this half - the rest of them look beaten. It's a weird atmosphere at the moment.

      GOAL - Arsenal 4-3 Leicester
      84 mins

      "Madness. Utter madness.

Super sub Olivier Giroud lands a bullet header from an Arsenal corner and although Kasper Schmeichel tries to palm it out, it's way over the line.

If the Emirates had a roof it would be in the solar system by now."

Arsenal fans ever been called fickle?

Wenger has stood still as a manager IMO. He started ahead of the curve (20 years ago), then he was on the curve (10 years ago) and now he is behind the curve.

Because it is given no priority and he has no plan ,

It's fine to have no plan from mic/for but you need one in defence

A new member of one of my leagues had Vardy as (C). Effing maverick.

Who shone and who was poor? Is Kola a doubt going forward? Don't think I really want a £6m defender who isn't going to ever get a CS but the occasional assist. Kind of defeats the object of him being a defender.

Yet another comment suggesting Arsenal will get 0 CSs. Absolutely bonkers

Leicester had 6 shots, 3 on target and scored all 3. They aren't conceding 3 goals each game, especially not when their CBs are back.

I like kola maybe when koscielny is back in the middle - they really miss him. Bps tonight is interesting with kola set to hold off lacazette and welbeck for a bonus point

So here's my point of view following friday night game.

      ARSENAL :

      1. Kolasinac is the player that impressed me the most. He's so strong offensively and has a good left foot. He could easily have scored double figures and already racked up 1 bp. Like many said, with the returns of Koscielny, Mustafi and Mertesacker, clean sheets may come too. For 6.0m this could be a good investment. Arsenal fixtures are not great though.

      2. I think Xhaka could be a surprise. When Arsenal have +60% possession he has a lot of space in front of him, can shoot from outside the box or set-up attacking plays. It could be frustrating to see him assist the assister though. He takes corners alongside Ozil, that's a plus. He gets booked a lot, that's a minus. Could be a good 4th mid when Arsenal fixtures get greener.

      3. Lacazette did well on the pitch and could have had one assist if Walcott wasn't a dumbass. From an FPL point of fiew, it's more disappointing. Only one goal out of 4 for his team and no bps.

To watch : Ramsey and Giroud, the frenchman seems to always score when coming out from the bench.

      LEICESTER :

      1. Vardy will get his 15+ goals this season, especially with the world cup coming. He's so fast/strong/smart and so clinical, a delight to see him play today. Could be a better 3rd midprice striker than Firmino after all.

      2. Mahrez struggled in the first half and didn't convince me that he's worth the investment. But he sure still got his magic left foot and on set pieces duties.

I also think Bellerin did very well gong forward. Made so many threatening runs where he broke free from the defenders. However, he was a little too indirect for my liking.

Bellerin was okay but I think Kolasinac is a no brainer for 0.5 less.

I thought Oxlade-Chamberlain played best consistently. Not necessarily for fpl though.

In my opinion he's the type of player that will frustrate you. Will get shots, will touch the ball near the opposite keeper, but won't get much return.

Agree, not good fantasy pick but generally had a very good game.
