It’s almost like turn-based Fantasy Football.

Alexandre Lacazette’s 17.8% ownership will be more than happy with the night’s work from the Frenchman.

His goal and spritely performance was enough to provide comfort and early re-assurance for those who snubbed one or more of Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane or Gabriel Jesus.

Lacazette scored one, he perhaps could and should have got more. He certainly did enough to indicate that he can justify the 10.5 Fantasy Premier League fee.

His non-owners must acknowledge that Lacazette showed promise, but they will also know that there are more turns to play out.

Jesus will go on Saturday, backed by a 13.6% ownership, with 30.7% of those handing him the captaincy for a trip to Brighton.

Then it will be Kane and Lukaku on Sunday, with the 49% owned Manchester United striker backed by over a million armbands.

Meanwhile, up on Tyneside, Kane will be part of 37.9% of squads and with 55% of his owners trusting him as their skipper.

Those captaincy percentages are telling.

For while Lacazette’s promising performance might already cause some to consider the saving from Lukaku or Kane, it’s significant that the pair are both backed by more than half of their Gameweek 1 owners with the armband.

Lacazette earned the faith of just 29.1% of his managers, with the majority doubtless turning to one of the two big-hitters.

And therein lies the difference.

The Arsenal striker was impressive, but there is plenty of ground to make up before we consider him at the same level as Kane and Lukaku as a captain.

For starters, we will want to assess the impact Olivier Giroud’s dramatic winner.

Once again he sprung from the Arsenal bench to send Arsene Wenger a message. Once again, as we saw with Alexis Sanchez last season, we will wonder if Giroud will eventually gain starts as the central striker, pushing Lacezette into a support role.

To an extent, we have the same worry with Jesus. Sergio Aguero’s presence could eventually shift the Brazilian to a flank or behind the lone striker at times.

How that will impact either striker is unknown. What we do know is that this is not a concern with Lukaku or Kane.

So while Lacazette convinced and demonstrated that he will have a say in our seasons, early talk of Arsenal’s new signing being elevated to their level seems premature.

He has the pair on their toes, and they will need to take their turn to shine.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just kicked a few guys from my mini leagues for entering multiteams.

These guys didn't even have the since to use different team and manager names.

I done the same in my draft league. Drafted him then swapped him for Iwobi, who hadn't been picked, thinking it was a good punt for a couple of games! 🙁

No you could have done it straight after the draft up until the deadline this week. You can now request any for the GW2 deadline.

Thanks... I thought there was some 48 hour rule I read about...
and I thought the order of the waiver pick ups was based on what Palace you are in after the scores are tallied. E.g the last place player gets 1st chance at the waiver wire.

Can someone explain the high popularity of Rangel? Surely it's obvious he's not going to play when Naughton is available, right? Is there something I'm missing?

    1. Foozeball
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 19 days ago

To clarify, I understand the whole being only 4.0 of course, but there are other 4.0 defenders who are also only an injury away from playing, so why Rangel in particular? Simply because he had the most points last season out of the 4.0 defenders?

    2. Netley Lucas
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 19 days ago

Yeah, they go for popularity. There is a case, if you have Naughton. Prefer Mee & Long tbh

Just a 4.0 defender and he topped scored for the price point last season.

Long is the better option - seems more likely to play. Eventually.

Kolasinac could give it a decent crack when he shifts to LWB and the defence is settled.

No chance. People going nuts for 1 assist. He's not in a side like Chelsea with Alonso prospect or on pens like a Baines in his prime. Wont even top this seasons as Monreal will get minutes wide sometimes.

      I'd guess Baines top ever.
Or the daft old days of Lescott Laursen etc getting baps every week

Happy with 6 points for a 10.5m outlay? Seriously? I wouldn't be. Personally I'm much happier with the 5 point return on 6m for Kolasinac. Further emphasises my point that there could well be an opportunity in going 5 big guns at the back and saving on high priced strikers

    1. Pep says
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 19 days ago

Without that assist he'd have one point though. Defenders have a much lower ceiling than strikers and Lacazette has got one in the league now, he may go on to keep scoring, 6 points is not a bad return.

And besides, who wants to be hoping for 5 clean sheets instead of rooting for goals!

Exactly. 5 at the back is Mourinho's attempt at FPL.

I would be happy owning both of those players, more so with Kolasinac who looks a serious candidate for a 4 3 3 Hard to see any of the cheap mids matching him.

Have to take gw 1 with a pinch of salt though. The boy may need to actually defend in future, otherwise Arrsenal going to concede a ton

      1. Sz21

Hopefully they play him LWB for all fo the game though.

Arsenal are all over the shop atm at the back. He shouldn't be in central defence.

    3. Turbolag

I hope you continue to think this way, it is this demand for high priced strikers that creates an opportunity for those of us who think differently. Don't get me wrong, I like goals as much as the next man, but I see an opportunity with the attacking full backs. I'm looking at attacking points from them for minimal outlay and clean sheets are a bonus. Let's see how we are half way through the season!

        1. BananaNose Maldonado
          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          • 11 Years

Yeah, I'll probably continue to think that way. There are only so many wingbacks who will be nailed and won't get rotated, so I fear that you will end up locking yourself into players that you can't then hop on and off of.

With similarly priced midfielders, you can change and shift based on fixtures and form. That's why saying that Alonso will score more than most 7.0 priced midfielders misses the point: You'll keep Alonso for all 38 GWs, while I can rotate those 7.0 midfielders.

Again, good luck. I hope it works out of you if you actually stick with it.

That's good point and it's yet to be seen how rigidly I stick to it! At the moment it forms the basis of my team but we all know that to be successful you need to be flexible throughout the season so we'll see how it goes
