Few could have predicted the distribution of points from Liverpool’s midfield with any confidence heading into Gameweek 1.

Some of us – unnerved by Philippe Coutinho’s absence through injury and rumours of his possible departure – even abstained altogether, writing off the investment as too much of a risk.

Yet those who gambled were rewarded with points. Goals from all three primary options in the Liverpool attack – Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino – during Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Watford confirmed the potency of the trio.

In this week’s Technical Area, we will be looking into the performance of each of these three players, analysing their goalscoring threat, positioning and chance creation potential. Though much can – and will – change as more data becomes available, here’s our breakdown of who impressed us most in the season’s opening Gameweek.

Nice. Be good to scout Mendy if he plays. I think he could be the premo defender to get this season.

I'm trying to prove a point about cheap vs premium goalkeepers for a buddy of mine. Does somebody have the top 5 most scoring goalkeepers in FPL (and their score) for the three previous seasons?

Thanks Doos, but I was actually looking for actual FPL points.

He's adamant that since clean sheets give more points than saves, a 10.5m keeper combo is way better than a 8.5m combo.. Then again, I'm not really sure I even want to bother convincing him otherwise..

It's not just the points though, it's what you do with the other 2 million.

But last year it was Heaton top ahead of a range of premium picks (lloris, cortouis, de gea and cech I think).
Year before Butland and Gomes were really good performers, but they were both injured a period and didn't quite get to the top I think.

Finding it difficult to hold onto a Southampton striker who has reduced minutes in a team who are renown for poor finishing when Mounie looked so good. Stick to the game plan and save an FT I keep telling myself...

So if Zaha is injured then, who do I replace him with? Currently have Ritchie - Pogba - De Bruyne - Carroll as my midfield with Lacazette - Kane and Firmino up front.

    Do I replace with:

    A) Willian

    B) Ince

    C) Other and who

Not sure about the options in this price range.

    1. Too Mane Men

Same. Arsenal horrible fixtures not a turn off though? Stoke, Pool and Chelsea all away. Stoke away their bogey ground. Wijnaldum had a nightmare at the weekend, but as you say, is great at home.

Really nice analysis and interested to see it change over the weeks.
The eye test favoured Mane in the first half as he came inside and looked to provide the cutting edge.
But in the second half Firmino and Salah looked more lively. Whichever Liverpool you've got, stick with it.

Give it another week or so, between Kane/Jesus for me - Jesus looked very threatening was unlucky not to score a couple goals. Removing Kane would free up more money elsewhere? But wait and see - too early to get rid of Kane.

    Goddammit Zaha.

    A) Zaha to Mooy and £1.5m itb
    B) Zaha to Mkhi and Gabbi to Mounie -4
    C) Zaha to Ramsay
    D) Zaha to Willian
    E) Something else

    Hart
    Bertrand / Ake / Cedric
    KDB / Salah / Zaha / Richie
    Kane / Lukaku (C) / Gabbiadini

    Elliot / Carroll / Mee / Long

OK. Well I think B is your best bet as Gabbiadini has Austin waiting in the wings, he will probably be subbed a lot and may be in danger of losing his place if he blanks another game.

A Dann and Zaha to Mbemba and Mkhitaryan for -4
B Zaha to Ramsey for free.

Dann suddenly looked like very poor value against HUD and Mbemba is now a starter, untill they bring someone in that is. Not sure if Mkhi will outperform Ramsey, but he looked damned good against WHU.

    1. Cyril Figgis
      • 14 Years
      9 years, 1 month ago

Would Mbemba be your 5th mid? He's surely not a long term option if not. But if you plan to have him sat on your bench most of the time, then A.

Ramsey changed the game for Arsenal and was superb at the weekend. But their next four fixtures include away trips to Stoke (their bogey ground), Liverpool and Chelsea.

Got a bit burned by the Fab red card, but wanted to save the free transfer, so was gonna bench him and hopefully ride out the week on reasonable home games for most of my defence. Zaha's potential injury prompts a rethink, so any thoughts on what I should do?
    Current team for gw2 is:
