So far, it all seems pretty simple.

Manchester United are walking through teams and all we have to do as Fantasy managers is back them and count the points.

Romelu Lukaku – while wholly unconvincing throughout against Swansea City – again managed to earn his 53.5% of FPL managers points, with 67% of those owners backing him with the captaincy.

For all the naysaying that took place during today’s display, the fact remains that the Belgian is now three goals ahead of both Harry Kane and Gabriel Jesus – perhaps his most likely rivals for a spot in our forward lines.

Should they dare to blank in Sunday and Monday’s matches then further sales of both will follow, with Lukaku hoovering up yet more owners.

But the day truly belonged to Paul Pogba.

A 15-point haul in South Wales saw him reach new heights to follow his eight points gained in the opening weekend victory over West Ham.

A lot has been said and written on the presence of Nemanja Matic and how this has unleashed Pogba’s attacking talents. However, when we look closer, there is perhaps another individual key to Pogba’s recent boom.

In truth, Jose Mourinho’s side seemed to huff and puff through most of today’s victory, and Pogba cut a frustrated figure at times – indeed, he walked a disciplinary tightrope in the first half.

But late on, the introduction of both Marouane Fellaini and Anthony Martial seemed to galvanise matters. On their arrival, United simply eased through the gears and tore the Swans asunder, with Pogba the main benefactor.

United have now scored eight goals over two matches, with six of those strikes arriving after the 75-minute mark with Fellaini on the pitch.

When he arrives, Pogba appears unshackled to run at tired legs and spread devastation. Notably, his only points earned without Fellaini on the pitch so far has been his assist for Bailly’s opener today.

So while it’s difficult to question the thousands of FPL managers that are now flocking to Pogba, we still need to consider that, to this point, the influence of Matic has perhaps not been as significant as billed.

It’s only when Mourinho reinforces his midfield further that Pogba has proved unstoppable.

Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan quietly gained another two assists without taking control of the game or matching Pogba’s impact.

He is undoubtedly the creator to Pogba’s destroyer. The question is, are we forced to choose between them and if so, is it as straightforward as opting for the Frenchman?

Having just taken a points hit to acquire Mkhitaryan, he’s going nowhere. And with Phil Jones available for just 5.0 in a defence that’s already kept two shut-outs, this Fantasy manager can’t currently find a place for Pogba.

That’s a worry. Potentially, Pogba is transformed and, match after match, he could prove untameable for opposing defences.

But the Fellaini factor is interesting and we perhaps still need to show some caution. Leicester City in Gameweek 3 will likely provide a sterner test which may yet slow the United and Pogba juggernaut.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Looks like I'm the only one with triple United bar Lukaku. Jones, Mkhitariyan and Pogba have served me well so far. I just feel the Mkhitariyan and Pogba combo at 16m offer much more value than a 11.5m Lukaku. It frees up funds elsewhere, gives me the license to play another heavy hitter (Kane or Jesus) along with a Vardy/Firmino/Morata upfront. More importantly, I think start of the season is the right time to go maverick if you really want to. It has worked for me in the first couple of weeeks but if it doesn't work I'm ready to get back to the drawing board.

Pogba vs Mkhi is a thinker.

I hate that Mkhi hasn't looked like scoring or even shooting yet but I also hate the fact that Pogba seems to only bomb forward after Fellaini comes on, as Mark said.

Yeah. I used the comparison tool last night. Pogba is getting the goals, Mkhi the assists and bonus. Pogba's goal conversion looks artificially high and might regress making Mkhi the best pick, but he is offering no attacking threat at the moment

I don't think so. Lukaku is a great captain option, the others aren't. Lukaku is also most likely to sustain his form.

No, because they aren't captaincy material. At least not yet. So I would go Lukaku + one of them.

Think Richarlison could be interesting. He seems to drive forward with every attack. The limited stats available to us so far are very promising for a 6.0 midfielder. Plus Watford look likely to score goals this season.

I'm not sure I agree on the analysis of Pogba/Fellaini. The game yesterday changed when Swansea switched Bartley for Routledge and went from a back 7 to pushing forward a bit. This removed the two man protection of their defence and opened up gaps. Pogba was able to take advantage because he was pushed forward to accommodate Fellaini and Herrera, but without Swansea's tactical switch it wouldn't have been possible.

In summary, assuming United continue to play well and win, opposition teams will be less likely to chase the game and more inclined to stay tight at the back and take a 0-1 (or defend a draw). There certainly won't be as many teams willing to be as cavalier as Swansea in the final 15 yesterday.

      Good point.

Before that final 15, it was a pretty tight, and frankly dull, affair.

I think Pogba is a solid choice but I won't be losing KDB for him quite yet 😉

11k rank at the moment. My squad:

    Heaton - Foster
    Davies - Yoshida - Bailly - Kolasinac - Dummett
    KDB - Mkhi - Eriksen - Willian - Carroll
    Firmino - Lukaku - McBurnie

Dummett injured, but not worried as unlikely to drop. May transfer him this week. Think my main 4-4-2 has solid players who will deliver points over the course of a season. Will look to transfer Willian and Davies to Ramsey and Trippier once Hazard and Rose are back.

Are you worried about not having Kane? After today, they have a very good run of fixtures to week 8 with only Everton (a) looking tricky. Think he'll be the most selected captain 2 of next 3 weeks.

I also posted about this earlier. I think he's got to go. Justifying £6m for a defender in a team not keeping clean sheets is difficult. We got him for his attacking returns but he's been shackled at centreback and doesn't look to be switching to LWB any time soon.

Valencia doesn't even look like coming close to doing anything attacking. And that is in two games where utd. scored 4. Can't argue with two clean sheets but would rather have someone cheaper who is nailed. How long can Jones last?

His place to lose tbh. Jose likes him and he starts him whenever he's fit. Lindelof will be eased in and rotation comes into the picture once UCL kicks in.

There were lots of tika-taka style short passing triangles in the United midfield...none of it was particularly dangerous though.

There's not much in wide areas...there's no wingers.

Blind got up to do some crossing...Valencia strangely didn't.

Rashford and Mata like to come inside...they don't hug the touchline.

Not until Mkhi got pushed out wide after the subs did they have a proper wide player.

You're clearly delusional or you're just seeking attention. When someone says "I'm the only.." it refers the general consensus. Surely, in a game where Lukaku boasts a 52 percent ownership and Pogba, Mkhitariyan and Jones have a combined ownership of less than 40 percent, the probability of someone having a United triple up without Lukaku will be rare. Better luck next time, another failed attempt to garner some attention.

Reposting it and winding up people is not cool. A punt which works out for a gameweek or two is insignificant imo.

I reposted (immediately) cause I was bottomed on the previous page. I'm chilling on a Sunday afternoon and felt like having a talk with a few lads here. How am I winding people up? The 3 lads before this dude had their points laid down like gentlemen. Talking about the punt, I never claimed that people should be doing it. You can go back and read that I've actually stated that I might be forced to get Lukaku if the United midfield duo regress in the coming weeks. Stop making assumptions and shoving words down someone's throat mate.

    Maths help....?

At the deadline yesterday my TV was 100.2: salah and Lukaku both rose last week

Before the price changes last night I sold Salah to Pogba to jump on that band wagon.

So, I lost 0.1 on salah. But then Pogba Rose over night and I got it back. However my TV is 100.1 not 100.2. I'm missing something aren't I?

Kneejerked a bit last night and went Willian to Pogba and Valencia to Jones (2FT).

Pogba a better option than Mikhi?

I don't think there's a lot in it. However it was pogbas energy towards the end of the match yesterday that made choose him and that he was 0.1 cheaper at the time.

Yes - the 0.1 was my main reason for him over Mikhi. I suppose Pogba is more nailed.

No point worrying now if Pogba is a better option than Mkhi. Whats done is done. Certainly not enough to justify -4. Both are quite equal as it stands and formation doesn't change.

Why not Tadic. First choice on pens I'm assuming, was he still on when Austin hit his?

Can't hurt to have a pen taking attacking mid with those fixtures.

      1. Stokelona

Austin is first choice on pens, Tadic actually missed one last season and only just scored yesterday. Having said that, Austin hasn't been starting and with Gabbi playing well may stay on the bench. I'm a big Tadic fan so he's in my team and he's been having quite a few shots from open play.

What is the general conculsion on Pool? Who is the one to have? I currently have Firmino however, after these 2 GWs, I can say that Mane looks like worth paying more over Firmino or Salah. Probably next week I will switch one from Miki/Pogba to Mane and Firmino to Chica.

Talking about a double pivot I can see Mourinho changing to a 4-3-3 against Leicester and bringing Herrera into a 3 man midfield. Imo Herrera should be starting every week. But what do I know?
