Heading into the 2017/18 season, the Fantasy Premier League reclassification of Roberto Firmino from midfielder to forward was a source of much chatter.

Three Gameweeks in and Firmino has made fools of those of us who shied away.

The Brazilian sits joint-top in the overall standings on 26 points, having notched two goals, a pair assists, and twice taken home a maximum bonus points haul. Indeed, only Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan (106) leads Firmino (101) in the Bonus Points System (BPS) to date.

Over this international break, interest in the Liverpool man has been understandably high. He has experienced one price hike already (from 8.5 to 8.6), and could possibly rise again between now and the Gameweek 4 deadline.

With Liverpool in rampant form – as evidenced by last week’s 4-0 demolition of Arsenal – Firmino offers managers an opportunity to save valuable funds by downgrading a premium forward option to a lower-priced alternative who has hitherto managed to outperform his more expensive rivals.

Here in the Technical Area, we thought that this week represented a good opportunity to dig into Firmino’s game in greater depth.

Specifically, we will be exploring how his profile compares to that of other FPL forwards and whether that early-season form can continue as the campaign unfolds.

I think you either really want Alonso or you don't. For that reason alone you should go A

You said this to me a few days ago and it made up my mind about going without Alonso. I realised that at the first sign of trouble I would probably look to downgrade him and strengthen elsewhere. He's a long term pick so no point getting him if you're not willing to commit to him fully.

Hoping stick with Kane + Lukaku + Chica will paid off this weekend.

Tempted to do Kane + Chica to Morata + Firmino but not do it cause Kane's fixtures will be better. And Chica must establish himself, otherwise Bony or Abraham can replace him.

Any thoughts or anyone in the same boat? Thank you.

I have the same front 3 and feel pretty confident about it. Even if Firmino could prove himself essential and Morata good value. But you can't have everyone.

Should I wait until after the international break to make a transfer? Thinking of getting rid of Ramsey and maybe Stephens

    Begovic Elliot
    Jones Stephens TFM Mee Long
    Eriksen Salah Mkhi Ramsey Carroll
    Kane Lukaku Abraham

    1ft 1m itb

Also considering doing Ramsey and Long to Alonso and RLC
would switch between 433 and 343

Best triple ups on Everton and Swansea at the fixture turn?

    Rooney
    Siggy
    Keane/Jagielka

    Abraham/Bony
    Fer
    Mawson/Naughton

Everton better team but Swansea's run of good fixtures is soooooo loooooooong starting now.

      Fabianski
      Naughton
      Abraham

Not worth a third for me unless Abraham under performs then maybe Rooney

      Pickford
      Keane

      Ayew

I would give Swansea the next two games before judging their players.

There's a plethora of productivity churning out the points atm from 8.2 to 9.6, you can fill a 5 man midfield with them and still have a good XI. Why be so maverick?

      1. tafrère
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 6 months ago

I agree, was just a question, not planning to bring him in but he seems so ingored since day one. I wonder if some people have him in their teams and I think there is a case to hold for now.

Yeah, I get what you're saying it's just that his peers are so good atm he has got a bit lost in our thinking. His attitude in tougher games stinks but he has a fair run to restore confidence.

Well they wouldn't be on the site now unless automated or if I posted them on the widget. Most people know where they are on here. Could make a daily price change hot topic but that may be excessive.

yeah was after first choices.. Robertson I thought would be starting lb as he was having his kid last weekend and missed the game?

Moreno has started every game bar Palace I think, so he seems to be the preferred LB atm

After my disastrous last GW I wanted to make some quick changes, but now that I've left my team alone for a week, I'm tempted to save my FT:

    Foster - Elliot
    Davies - Stephens - Alexander-Arnold - Hegazi - Rangel
    Eriksen - Salah - Mkhitaryan - Redmond - Loftus-Cheek
    Lukaku - Jesus - Benteke

    1FT, 0.4 ITB

I really wanted Benteke and TAA out - and Redmond as well - and to somehow get Alonso/United defence and Firmino, but now I think I might as well wait another week and do something for free. Thoughts?

Yeah I'd save. Benteke to Firmino is the move to make but since you're priced out it makes sense to wait a week and do it for free.

That's what I'm leaning towards, thanks. Who knows, maybe Benteke will fluke a goal in the meantime too...

Benteke almost g'teed to drop another 0.1 b4 deadline. Firm likely to rise again.
      Leaking value isn't good.

Bite the bullet and take the hit(s) is what I'd do.

My TV isn't too bad thanks to Hegazi and the United boys, but I take your point. I'll see how I feel when Benteke is closer to that -100.

The utd boys value is irrelevant as I assume they ain't going anywhere.

Teke dropping and Firm rising again is a 0.2 swing.
that'll price you out of many players down the line.

Who would you downgrade? Redmond to a 5.5-6 is the obvious choice but that would kind of lock me with that defence for a while, and I don't like my defence...

Taa Benteke Redmond and Jesus all need to go.
In which order is up to you.

Yeah, I'd probably stick. Palace have looked terrible but maybe they'll try to go more direct now and Benteke will profit.

Redmond to Steven Davis probably wouldn't be a bad move cos that would then leave you with 1.5 million to play with , and there might not even be a huge points difference between them this season

On wildcard would love some advice lads
    A) Jesus, Richarlison, Bertrand, salah
    B) Kane, atsu, cedric, mane

I like B. Long term I think Richarlison will do well but the fixtures are iffy short term and him over Atsu is the only significant advantage of A.

Which two out of Yoshida, Mee, Suttner and Atsu should I play this week? Leaning toward Yoshi/Mee. I have Forster/Bertrand but 67% of the time the Southampton triple up works every time.

It's just that I don't even like doubling up on defenders, let alone tripling up! So many fixtures are 'obvious' clean sheets and end up with an unexpected goal, like Burnley scoring vs. Spurs for example.

It's a high risk/high reward proposition, but long term it'll pay off if Southampton are good.

Yeah, definitely possible. Luckily I've got some cover with defenders with decent fixtures this week and can let him go when/if he loses his place.

        Fabianski + Cedric otherwise.

I like the Southampton double up. I don't really think Bertrand is significantly better than Cedric and I do think Southampton are better than Swansea/WBA. Might be worth just saving .5 and going Cedric + Foster or Fabianski given how budget keepers tend to wrack up save points though.

Hey guys, need some advise on my current team:

    Foster
    Hegazi/Jones/Cedric
    Willian/KDB/Salah/Mkhi
    Lukaku/Firmino/Morata

    Thanks!

Looks fine. KDB hasn't looked worth his price, but he's a good player for a good team. I'd probably look to swap him to Alli or Eriksen soon, but it can maybe wait a week.

Is it wise not to have a City player? I like their fixtures but you never know with Pep cant decide if I should keep Silva or not

I've had no players from ManCity, Liverpool or Chelsea all season. I'll get some Chelsea eventually when the fixtures sort out and the lineup with Hazard is clear. Rotation risk with the other two will only get worse. There's lots of ways to get points.

I'd probably keep Silva if I had him, but I wouldn't worry about not having a City player. None of them have really separated themselves as an elite option as yet.
