This is a very strange experience.

Denied the opportunity to host this week’s ScoutCast by BT’s shortcomings and with the Wildcard active, I am forced to join you and eavesdrop while my decision-making is torn apart by Andy, Jonty, Az and Luke. I have to admit, it’s pretty tortuous.

It’s like my hands are firmly fastened to the couch while the quartet lapdance* their critique around me. How I want to get “involved”.

Aside from appraising my “ill-timed” Wildcard, the boys tackle your other community questions.

They consider the Liverpool double-up, question whether midfield coverage can replace either Kane and Lukaku, debate whether Alonso is essential and then look at how fixtures can shape cheap defensive acquisitions.

I’m pretty sure they answer them all exactly as I would. In fact, listening back, they appear to justify my Wildcard for me. I can hardly wait for next week.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Has anyone ever given purposely bad advice to try and slimly help their own team? Like telling people not to sell a low ownership player that you own to avoid a price drop?

    Righto

    Foster
    Cedric / Dawson / Jones
    Ritchie / Eriksen / Mkhitaryan / Ince
    Gabbiadini / Lukaku / Kane

    Elliot/Carroll/Mariappa/Daniels
    £2.3m in the bank.
I am considering Gabbiadini to Firmino. But do I wait a week and then get him considering the fixtures this week? Anywhere else I could improve?

I don't think fixtures really matter for Pool attack, if anything I'd prefer them against the bigger sides based on last seasons evidence and the start of this.

He's really overrated and I'm not sure why everyone is getting him. Yes he has free kicks, yes he can do some nice assists now and then, but I just don't see Brady and Burnley being a high scoring side and I'd rather have Atsu over him in that bracket. Decent pick but there is too much love for him imo

Will Trippier start against Everton over Serge?

      1. Netley Lucas

        Let's see what Poch said;

"We need to assess him because he will arrive this afternoon, in a few hours and see how he is, because he played Tuesday and travelled today to France, Paris, and now he’s travelled from France to London.

"We need to see how he is. But you can imagine for him it will be very tough to play.

"For this afternoon, tomorrow to prepare for the game, it will be tough for him.

"Maybe will be in contention, maybe, we’ll see. We need to assess him today and tomorrow."

        --------------------------

Given that Trip is fit and Serge has so little time to train with the squad my guess is Trip starts this one and Serge the next

"Kieran is good. He has trained all week and I think he will be available for Saturday," Poch

        Two things
A WC is not for 1 week. The rewards should come in the short to medium term.

I have 9 away this week lots of players in the same boat. Last season when I had a similar home / away imbalance the away weeks were often a nice surprise and the plum home weeks a total let down. You just don't know.

I am really thinking about it - the issue is that it books the transfer to Kane for GW5 but, feasibly, Kane could blank and drop again and I do fancy Laca points vs BOU.

Probably - I like the looks of the Spurs fixtures - I can always afford Lukaku by downgrading one of my 3 premium mids if needed.

Advice my non-wild carded team and potential transfers for September please!

      Foster (Elliot)

      Valencia, Bertrand, Dawson, (Suttner, Mariappa)
      JWP, Eriksen, Pogba, Ritchie
      Kane, Lukaku (C), Mounie

This week JWP for Carroll, Tadic or Antonio (Suggestions/thoughts please!) Week 5 - Suttner to Davies, week 6 - Mounie to Rooney

      Thanks in advance!

Tadic can be a good differential for this week. The same with Antonio. I picked Tadic as I already have Chicharito.

GW5 looks good. For GW6 I would prefer Calvert Lewin

Email works best. Guessing it was mainly in reference to the Brady HT? PL site has corners taken, the successful part is harder to find. If it was a free for all then it would be stats central.

Plus Jonty's goals imminent table and others.

One of the reasons I set up my blog was so I could discuss stats found elsewhere without risk of them being deleted on here. The policy seems to have loosened in the last couple of years - possibly a reflection of the wider availability of stats generally - but that's not reflected in the terms and conditions. It's nice for the mods to have flexibility now, but maintaining the hard line in the conditions doesn't encourage (hopefully) insightful contributions.

I don't see many stats on here tbh. I wasn't around for that Brady HT but I'm guessing Mark HT'ed it as he replied etc. Watching the FPL Show/daily twitter has stats. The Scoutcast give a few tidbits that you can get from comments of A vs B. Normally people flag comments that are major breaches and they get removed/moderated.

I guess we'll have to differ on how much we're seeing. The main point I was raising was there seems to be a more ad hoc approach now and that creates uncertainty. Que sera sera. I'll make these points to Mark.

      Forster
      Alonso--Kolasanic--Davies--PvA*
      Salah--Pogba--Gross
      Lukaku--Kane--Chicharito

      Subs: Elliot--Carroll--RLC--Rosenoir
      0.3 ITB
      1FT

What do you reckon here guys? If I was playing 'sensibly' I'd probably lose Gross for someone like Brady, but I'm keeping him for the next 3 winnable brighton games due to my Brighton bias and hoping he gets some returns...

I think PvA needs to go.

      1) Stick to my 'wingbacks only' policy and get Naughton
      2) Get Phil Jones, who is pretty secure in my opinion
      3) Keep PvA and bank the transfer

      Thoughts?

would people rather their bench did well, and you had the regrets of bench points, or all three bought in 2 pointers, and had the possibility of price drops from that?

love FPL psychology. The captain choice stuff is fascinating, with people tending to avoid captaining players who are playing early Saturday/Friday, or players who play for their own team, or players who don't cost much, regardless of prospects

Like the article but you can use stats to paint any picture you like. My opinion is i think stats are the best option for picking low end players and squad fillers but your gut and eye test for captains and heavy hitters

I disagree, I think the eye test should be primarily used regardless, with stats being essentially a tie-breaker. Off the top of my head it was the eye test that had me sign George Boyd and Harry Kane before they began making mockeries of their price tags (at 4.4 and 5.5?).

If you can watch every game yes use the eye test but you can't rely on just watching high lights either so i think stats are vital if you want to break into the higher end of the hof. There no right answer you have to use eye and stats. But it's easier to run a team on just stats than just eye test

Already done Ramsey > Mooy with a view to doing KDB > Mané (-4) then Pogba > Eriksen next week.

With Aké injury does it make more sense to go KDB Aké > Salah Alonso (-8) this week and forget Eriksen in the short term...(I have Kane and Bavies)

Or would you just use Carroll etc bench cover for Aké and stick to plan A...suck up the price drop and switch Aké in the likely GW7 WC.

Bit of an uncharacteristic rage transfer for Ramsey out after his performance at Anfield. I saw the targets of Mane and Eriksen, Mooy was the steady guy under 5.8 enabler with good fixtures for next 3 before I expect to WC so I hit the button. Been trying to decide which of Mané or Eriksen to bring in first for KDB, but Salah is also a temptation for funds.
