The Gameweek concludes at the London Stadium where West Ham are treated to their first home game of the campaign against Huddersfield Town.

At the start of the season, this appeared to be a fixture which would have seen us back the Hammers’ assets for returns. Three games in and the outlook is very different.

The Terriers turn up undefeated and with no goals conceded. That form has seen the likes of goalkeeper Jonas Lossl and defender Zanka pick up 8.4% and 10.4% ownership respectively. Meanwhile, playmaker Aaron Mooy is backed by 12.9% having produced a goal and an assist to this point.

But West Ham have the best-supported player on show tonight.

Chicharito is part of 1.4 million squads and is backed by 159,000+ (3.3%) with the captaincy.

Significantly, he’ll be supported by Andy Carroll in the West Ham attack, in what appears to be a 3-5-2 set-up deployed by the under pressure Slaven Bilic.

Joe Hart is the next best owned West Ham asset in action, although 71% of his 500,000 owners have chosen to bench him ahead of tonight’s clash.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Red flag slows down price drops though. Aguero last year for example only fell a little bit despite having almost a million net transfers out 😮

Depends on what the overall ownership though, Kun was like 50 something % so required huge numbers

Thing with Mane is Spurs next 4 fixtures and everyone will want their quota of 3 players so either Alli/Eriksen will happen for most active players I would say

The Pool players' prives has been rather volatile this season. Salah goes up and down and then back up again. Mane goes up and then immediately goes back down again XD

    Quick Poll.

    Is Coverage ....

    A) A myth that doesn't work?

    B) A valid strategy that yields a decent amount of points?

    1. TheTwelfthMan
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 3 months ago

      C) Bit of both. You have to consider which player/team you're covering with whom. Mkhitaryan/Pogba could perhaps cover United, Wijnaldum and Can will not cover Liverpool.

As soon as you specify a player then you prove coverage is a myth.

If coverage is a thing why cant I just get Matic to cover Pogba?

          For attacking players anyway.

Defenders is a slightly different story

          • 8 Years

Yeah, I do believe the concept is a myth. I'd say you can cover players of similar/quality and prices through each other but not an 8.3m player with a 5.0m player. You can cover Eriksen with Alli to a good extent, but not with Dembele..

I had written a bit on this in pre-season, in fact. Taking the example of Arsenal and Liverpool, two of the common midfield minefields.

"Coutinho scored about 6.8 points per game last season. Mane racked up 6.3. Not a huge difference, between two players of similar calibre and prices. Now, let’s take Lallana and Wijnaldum. Lallana notched up 5.3 points per game, a number so high only because of the starring role he played in the absences of Mane/Coutinho. Wijnaldum, 4.5. This is where the drop off starts to become more significant. Another example from last season we can take this is that of Arsenal. Alexis Sanchez scored at 7.3 points per game. The same was 5.2 for Mesut Ozil and 4.0 for Aaron Ramsey. A significant drop-off as we jump down calibre and price brackets. So, the theory of “coverage” may not necessarily hold true for midfielders or forwards. It’s only if the players are similar in calibre."

As soon as a lower priced attacker is doing better or matching then its not cover anyway, you're just making the better player selection

Its like last year when i went Mkhi over Alli.

I wasnt covering United instead of doubling up on spurs, i just made a bad decision

If he's not doing better or matching but doing proportionately well (for the lack of better words), you could say he's 'covering'.

That was your perspective perhaps, but some do go for X over Y because they already have a similar player from X's team,

This is interesting. I don't take an extreme view in supporting or opposing coverage but I do think there is something there worth considering. As a notion, you can't rule it out completely.

Been keeping an eye on Mooy. The guy hardly loses the ball. He's a great player to have in a team in my opinion and he'll only get better.

Only problem with him is that he plays very deep and therefore I can't see him as a great fantasy prospect.

    Good player nonetheless.

    Falling stars.

Every year around this time it's worth remembering just how good some of the players are we have ditched and have fallen in price. As always around GW4 a lot of players have become too mindful of price rises and TV...and worrying about 0.1 risers (a lot).

So as I have done for the past few years I'll spend a few weeks putting out squads made up entirely(?) of players who have fallen in value and are collectively priced at, or less than, the 100mill original budget....and just as good as some of our WC's for last weeks hot properties. The anti knee jerk squad for this week...

No keepers to offer yet so a little caveat on those...

    Elliot (4.0) Fabianski (4.5)
    Cahill (6.3) Bellerin (5.9) Lovren (5.4)...(Wimmer 4.4 Tuanzebe 3.9)
    Siggy (8.4) KDB (9.9) Coutinho (8.8) Gross (5.4)...(King (4.4)
    Kane (12.4 c) Carroll (5.9) Lacazette (10.4)

Squad value bang on 100 mill and saving 1.5 mill on original values.

Many other noticeable fallers to play around with including Sanchez, Jesus, Ritchie, Shaqiri, Knockaert and co...but already showing signs of a squad much more affordable than we could have started with. Keep watching the fallers.

Happens every year. During the first few weeks the likes of KDB and Kane failing or Sanchez rested should be viewed as a good thing...not a bad thing. We just need to sweep those sorts of players up when they have fallen. That's how to improve our squads.

Andy Carroll will limp off within a few weeks but then look to somebody else who falls through injury or suspension. It happens all the time. Watch the fallers as well as the risers and you'll be amazes how good your squad is in a few weeks.

      2. Dr Dream
        • 13 Years
        8 years, 3 months ago

Also... The main point is that we don't need to rush transfers very often. Some of the best picks are sat there with no pressure for 0.1's. Do it collectively as a strategy for fallers and a good squad can fall into your lap. Some of the best bargains happen around GW6-8 usually.

Good value in Arsenal defence (monreal, mustafi, bellerin all fallen) as has trippier from Spurs. Also lindelof same price as Jones now. Could be an interesting option if he gets a run of starts.

Aye. Good fixtures coming up. The point is that it doesn't need to be Siggy or Coutinho....it's just an exercise in showing there are always plenty of ways of bolstering our squads by looking at the red arrows on FFFix as well as those who are rising. You could actually play the game that way.

                    Yes it does.

Lukaku is your key source of Manchester United points. You are contemplating removing that.

Pogba is the best replacement for that source of points. Not just because he plays for United; but because he is embarking on an outstanding season.

If you remove Lukaku without Pogba in your team, you can't get away with it.

I'd say the same whoever Pogba played for.

                      Thats the same as saying...

                      Lukaku or Jesus?

It depends, have you got Davies instead of Toby A because Davies will outscore him.

Its absolutely irrelevant as to whether Lukaku out is the smart move or not.

That's like you with the concept of coverage. It's never a good idea to be 100% against an idea or a theory. Having an open mind and entertaining the possibility that an opposing view could be valid is healthy.

You forced this onto coverage because you fervently oppose even the slightest notion of coverage.

I was making a point about Pogba.

From what we've seen so far, Pogba is on course to be immense this season. He has become a £90m player. He could well be the top scoring midfielder and will comfortably keep pace with Lukaku for £3m less.

Mkhi lacks goals in his game and will be rested much more.

Hi guys, I've written an article on the major talking points from this Gameweek's action in the FPL world. This part covers the Man City conundrum, Arsenal throwing up lucrative options, whether Kane can be avoided now or not and what to do with Southampton defenders. Do give it a read.

This is why the bonus point system confuses the hell out of me and many others. Antonio sprints down the right, completes his dribble (+1), key pass to Hernandez (+ 1), creates a big chance (+3) and completes a cross (+1), plays 1-60 mins (+3). So that's 9, for sake of argument take two off if can't have all of them. He's not even listed with lowest west ham player on 3!!!

It was being asked by someone last week if FFS could provide a mobile widget for price changes which they did not.

If anyone would like one it is a simple thing to achieve.

All you need is an app like WebSnap which allows you effectively take a live photo of a chunk of a web page and set it to update as frequently as you desire.

If you want to then you could create something like this if you like.

    https://imgur.com/4p7fe3V

Or you can set it to up date every 24 hours with the price update page from FPL stats so you don't need to hunt through FFS for the price change post when the morning comes it just updates straight to your phone

Just thought I would mention it. it took about 5 minutes to set up including downloading the app

It doesn't really bother me to be honest it just got me curious to see what what could be done

Getting to obsessive about prices is a bit unhealthy really but FPL stats does have a specific page showing you all the transfers and if you bookmark it o set something is just one click rather than coming on here checking which article is over nights then clicking to change the order of the posts to get the hulked one.

But this way it is no clicks at all. If you have a busy life with kids and things it is sometimes quite nice to have the info come to you

I made it a hot topic that will change to a sticky when the next days changes happen.
Your screenshot showing the 100.4 Mbemba probably wouldn't work as a widget as they can't be stated as fact etc.

It's just is a grab from fpl stats. As you say it is no more accurate than that

The retrospective one showing the price changes which have happened is accurate though. You can have it update every 24 hours at 0215 if it suits but I am not that fussy. I just find harder to keep track of it all than I once did as i have less time.

I can post a HT 10 minutes before a widget would pick it up.
Easy enough to do if it helps. FPLStats update at 2.20 at the earliest.

Pogba has the potential to replace Lukaku's points. I don't think Mkhi does unless he starts shooting in the box and doesn't get rotated.

Having one, both or none makes no difference as to whether I get rid of Lukaku or not, it's irrelevant.

Surely you want the combination of players that get you the most points?

That would be Jesus, Davies, Firmino and Pogba.

Jesus, Davies, Firmino and Mkhi scores you a lot less.

Am at work but from the looks of my comments bar, it appears to be a close contest for total comments between this match and a free speech discussion on some other thread.

Even as a Liverpool fan I cba, just accept and move on, what I want is consistency from refs though, seen about 3 similar challenges given nothing or yellows e.g. Ritchie & Reid on Mounie

Not wanting to extend a debate that nobody wants, but the Mountie one today was nothing like Mane’s IMO.

The result of the tackle shouldn't matter but it does, it effects the refs decision, simple as that. Mane pasted the keeper, the other 2 was minimal / light contact.

There'd be no debate if Ederson had come rushing at the ball with a high foot as Mane tried to head it

Got him in when Austin got injured and kept him very much up until the DGWs. Played him most times when he was fit but benched him the one GW where he hauled.

More debate less consensus would be good for the scoutcast.

It's tough being the only person to offer up an opposing view, however. There is a bit of a backlash if it goes wrong. This is why TriggerLips doesn't make his team public anymore,
