Spot the Differential

Two of the biggest names in Fantasy football claim top billing as we unveil our latest trio of differentials ahead of Gameweek 6.

Joining the star midfield duo is an emerging prospect from Everton who could just be the budget enabler we’ve been waiting for in attack ahead of a fantastic run of fixtures for the Toffees.

Alexis Sanchez

Our headline selection needs little introduction.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez was top of the overall Fantasy Premier League standings last season with 264 points, but has endured a difficult time ever since.

Linked with a move away from north London throughout the summer, he was also handed an extended rest period due to Chile’s participation in the Confederations Cup.

But having got 90 minutes under his belt against FC Cologne in the Europa League – when he scored his first goal of the season – and a further run-out against Doncaster Rovers in midweek, he looks primed to start against West Bromwich Albion on Monday night.

That’s also partly due to the fact that Danny Welbeck has been ruled out with a groin injury, freeing up a spot for the 2.4%-owned Sanchez.

Arsene Wenger’s side have been impressive on home soil so far this season, scoring seven goals in their two matches at the Emirates.

They also have a strong home record against the Baggies, winning the last six home meetings and scoring 13 goals.

Now down to 11.9 in FPL, gambling on Sanchez now could prove to be a game changer – should he be able to instantly recapture his form of last season.

The upcoming fixture list is very kind for the Gunners, with further favourable home encounters with Brighton & Hove Albion and Swansea City to come over the next five Gameweeks.

For Fantasy managers seeking an explosive differential to kick-start their season, they don’t come more combustible than Sanchez.

Philippe Coutinho

Another big name back in our thoughts is Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

The subject of major interest from Spanish giants Barcelona over the summer, Coutinho is another player to have suffered a disrupted start to the campaign.

But his performance in the 1-1 draw against Burnley and the midweek EFL Cup tie at Leicester City, hinted that it won’t be long before we see the Brazilian return to his best form.

He produced seven shots and created five chances against the Clarets, despite playing as part of a three-man midfield.

With Sadio Mane remaining suspended for this evening’s trip back the King Power Stadium, the 3.5%-owned midfielder could even be pushed forward to the left of the front three.

Now available at just 8.8 in FPL, Coutinho can provide outstanding value.

He totalled 13 goals and eight assists from just 28 starts last season.

No team has registered more penalty area shots (59) than Jurgen Klopp’s side, and the match-up with the Foxes looks promising.

They rank third for the most shots conceded so far this season, with 85, and have only managed a single clean sheet.

Cheaper than both Mane and Mohamed Salah, and with such low ownership, Coutinho could be a gamble worth taking heading into Gameweek 6.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

After scoring twice in the 3-0 win over Sunderland in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, we’re backing Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin against Bournemouth this afternoon.

The England U21 international was withdrawn after 66 minutes in midweek, suggesting that he’s been earmarked to start against the Cherries.

Despite playing just 267 minutes of Premier League football this season, Calvert-Lewin’s underlying statistics are hugely impressive.

No Toffees player has produced more close-range efforts (seven) than the young forward, while he’s also level with Wayne Rooney for key passes (seven).

He’s already produced two assists this season, with his pace looking crucial to an Everton attack which can, at times, lack dynamism.

The match-up with Bournemouth looks very enticing.

The Cherries have conceded more shots on target (31) than any other team and lost 6-3 on their last visit to Goodison Park.

Priced at just 5.0 in FPL, Calvert-Lewin may emerge as the budget forward we’ve all been waiting for if he can establish himself as a regular starter.

Gameweek 6 also marks the beginning of a hugely promising run of fixtures for Ronald Koeman’s side.

Owned by just 1.9% of FPL managers, Calvert-Lewin offers a significant upside which may well make him a risk worth taking.

I don't often post RMTs, but would appreciate some advice this time. Currently leaning towards either A or C. I probably will want to do other transfers coming weeks, so planned backline transfers next week will probably have me taking hits anyway.

My backline is for this GW currently:
    Bertrand - Jones - Mee (Yoshida, 4m)

    A) Yoshida > Kolasinac this week (-4)

Or play Bertrand this week and then:
    B) Yoshida/Mee > Kolasinac next week for free (depending on if Yoshida started this week when all players are fit)
    C) Yoshida -> Otamendi in 2 weeks

Yeah that's kinda what I'm thinking also, wouldn't want to drop yoshida if he keeps playing. I'm actually thinking that SOU will rather switch to 5 at the back rather than bench him.

I've been very content with my SOU double + Jones so far. Has been set and forget since the start.

Mbemba good enough as 4th defender if the three first are Davies, Jones and Kolasinac? And a non playing 3.9 as 5th? Or do we believe Mbemba is a risk short term?

He's a risk to an extent, but obviously if you never think you're gonna play him then you're fine.

I think Mbemba + 3.9 is too risky. Especially in this day and age with the all inflated squads and possible Champions League rotation for the big teams.

A by a bajillion miles. Vardy so underrated in FPL and on this site, and then you've got two premium defenders. Morata a good option, but in a few weeks when fixtures improve for me.

    1) (2nd and 3rd bench)

Yep, he's nailed. Very important player for them. History (and Swansea's lack of attacking potency) tells us he'll get a few assists, but wouldn't trust him in my team every week. Just a good auto-sub when you need him to give you 2 or 3.

Cheeers. Yes just as a super sub, but don't want to risk minutes with my 4.5s as don't want to have to waste transfers on them later

Yep, him and Chalobah the most nailed. The latter may be a better pick, but I've had TC as my squad filler for two seasons now and I feel loyal to the man.

Morning all - Who would be your priority to take out? Chicarito or Danilo. Will be for -4, have 1.5m ITB. Thanks all

    Foster
    Danilo - Daniels - Jones
    Alli - Choupo - Mkhi - Mahrez
    Jesus - Chica - Kane

Could you avoid the hit and just make use of your bench this week instead? I'd say Vardy for Chicha might be worth it but with doubts about his fitness it's probably too great a risk. Danilo to Bavies might be worth a hit.

      On WC, final decision is:

      A) bellerin and a 4.5 defender for bench (probably Simpson or Tarkowski)
      Or
      B) kolasinac and a 4.4 defender (suttner?)

Basically, is kola worth the 0.1 on bellerin at the expense of a weaker bench option?

Would look to have a Chelsea defender/Davies over Bailly.

Pages are flying, and did my changes ages ago - so, anyone got a question the desperately want an answer for? I can offer nothing but sub-par wit and wild guesstimation.

        Jesus or Kane captain?

Tight. I'm captaining Ageuro over Kane, despite Harry goals incoming I feel. Jesus' minute are the only worry - but if you think he'll start I'd go for him. Palace are awful and City look rampant.

Exactly, if I knew he'd start it's a clear choice, but the league cup really clouds the decision.

If it makes you feel any better, if I hadn't bought Aguero in the armband would be on Kane. He's playing really well, just didn't fall for him last week.

Saying that, this may have just made your decision harder. Sorry.

Go gut, who is calling you? Choose them.

Best of luck. You've got two of the best players in your team, you'll be getting points.

If you have Aguero you have got to captain him. Lower risk than Kane

I took Alli and Tammy out for Ritchie and Aguero. It's given me the big three up top, and a midfield of Mkhi, Salah, Ritchie and Brady (and Carroll) - which I'm pretty happy with. Obviously dropoff from another premium mid but two good facilitators to prevent me from the worry of Kun, Kane or Lukaku.

Good transfers. If I brought Brady in for Mooy I'd have that midfield too. Hard to argue with it given that you have the 'Power 3' up front.

        Yes please, have a dilemma.

On WC, don't know whether to go with Miki/Mendy/Carroll or Silva/Monreal/Chuopo

Moreso if I should be upgrading my 4.5 mid to Chuopo, and have him on the bench, or squeeze most value in the following 11:
        Elliot
        Mendy/Jones/Davies/Ota
        Miki/Ramsey/Ritchie
        Kun/Kane/Kaku
        Subs: Krul, Hunne, RLC, Carroll

Hmmm, well as a three I prefer the latter one because it gives you a better oprion for a 4 man midfield. And not a fan of double City defence. Your defence is loaded.

Cheers, think I will go for the more balanced. I don't want to keep Choupo on the bench if I have him, but can't see any good reason to bench one of Jones/Monreal/Davies/Ota

Need the opinion of the community.

I am sitting at 1.3k rank, and at the moment armband is with lukaku. Should I just go with him due to his high ownership or should I go with Jesus who I would have captained had I not been this up

It's still very early, I was at about 500 in the world at this stage last year and really started overthinking captains for coverage. It bit me a couple of times. Obvious point, but often forgotten, if you get more points you'll rise. Think it's pretty close call between Lukaku and Jesus though, so you're good to stick. Jesus' minutes worry me slightly.

I agree it's very early, but still there's always this thing to stay up and keep up the rank.
