Quite simply, we can’t have them all.

On a day that began with us fixated on the fortunes of Sergio Aguero, it was perhaps fitting that almost every other big striker produced their own bid to steal his thunder.

Aguero was a slow starter but eventually found his gear to take his turn in Manchester City’s mauling of Crystal Palace.

A goal and an assist were his reward, with two bonus points ensuring that the Argentine avoided being dwarfed by the double-figure blitz from Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane from midfield.

Again, there was evidence that Pep Guardiola’s attacking riches border on the ridiculous. Just ask Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian sat unused on the bench, forcing his 678,000 owners – not least the 183,000 who acquired him with Palace in mind – to choke on a bitter pill.

Pep’s Jesus decision was perhaps signposted by 90 minutes in midweek. But it’s no less confusing for us Fantasy managers, who must now wonder if Guardiola will toy with ongoing rotation of his strikers, with Sterling and Sane building compelling claims for regular starts.

Chelsea in Gameweek 6 will tell us more, although it’s City’s meeting with a beleaguered Stoke City defence that we really care about now.

We can, of course, opt out completely. It’s not as if our options are limited.

Harry Kane’s brace at the London Stadium offered a reminder that he will not surrender the Golden Boot, or his place in squads.

Sold by 196,000, with 141,000 of those swapping to Aguero, the Spurs striker set the bar for the City man with a 13-point return in the early kick-off.

Kane remains a force of nature, with the talent to circumvent Spurs’ woes on the Wembley turf – he now has 11 goals from his last five away matches.

Romelu Lukaku wasn’t to be put in the corner. He picked off his sixth goal in as many Gameweeks, as Manchester United endured a hard-fought victory at St Mary’s.

But Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata won today’s battle.

He ruthlessly exploited an ailing Stoke City defence to punish the 148,000 who had disposed of his services amid the clamour for Aguero.

Chelsea and Morata won’t play against a centre-back pairing of Darren Fletcher and Glen Johnson every week, but the Spaniard’s haul was nonetheless telling.

It offered a reminder that this is a season awash with goal scoring riches.

Our midfield firepower may have stalled – thanks in no small part to the absence of Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez. But that’s allowed the strikers to roll back the years and reinstate themselves as the critical position in our squad.

This could have a marked impact on our squad construction, particularly for those still with Wildcards to play. Funds in midfield will surely be scrutinised, monies in defence squeezed.

This could be a season where the big-hitting forwards take turns to dominate. Restricting ourselves to just two may no longer cut it.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      I did something similar.
Alonso, Eriksen and Joselu out for Mee, Ritchie and Aguero. Was going to save transfer and captain Kane so think I came out 2 points worse off including hit, but there is still Ritchie and Joselu points to add to the equation.

Seeing lots of Jesus out chatter. Seems a little reactive to me. He's had his rest, and will play ECL and Chelsea IMO. I did Kak>Aguero switch for the captaincy this week and will probably reverse it next wk. Planning a GW8 WC, and at this point in time expect Jesus to be a part of that squad. He's Pep's favourite plaything after all.

    What to do?

    A) Wait to bring Morata for GW8 because it's City next and pay 0.2 more
    B) Bring him in now for -4 and probably increase the TV

I'm leaning towards A. He would replace Firmino in my squad and Firm has Newcastle next.. Don't think it's worth getting Morata for a hit against City. What do you guys think?

Same predicament here. I had a plan all set up to WC over the international break, but with Morata and the City boys all scoring today, I'm worried I'll be priced out of my plan.

That said, Morata would replace Lukaku in my squad, and there's no way I want to take him out with Palace coming up. So I am probably going to wait and deal with the price rise.

But in your situation, I might actually pull the trigger now. While Firmino has Newcastle next, he's also scored 2 points in four of the six games so far.

      Good luck either way!

I guess it's bench for bench then fair enough

Yes, but I'd still appriciate a playing bench and I see some uncertainty?

Dropped 0.1 so easier to get back to original price. Also scored well in a GW.

Almost losing patience with Alonso. If Morata instead of Vardy he must go...Jones Morata rather than Vardy Alonso? Jones fixtures soon tough

I've had a disastrous start to this season. Finished 3.2k last season but my current OR is 2.5M. What is the optimal strategy from this position? Owning the highly owned players isn't going to work wonders for my rank, but then again I sense that resisting essential picks is only going to worsen my situation.

Do your thing and don't panic.

Easy to climb 2nd half of the season when making the right moves.

See not far off myself - 319 and that's a rank of 1.17 mill. I feel like im doing rubbish but know it's only 20 odd ponts to 500k (i think) and then go from there

In a similar position... 661st last season and currently 2.9m!

I'm completely ignoring who other people own and picking the players I think will score me the most points - I'll finish where I finish.

I've definitely overthought things this season. Probably going to use this approach going forward. Cheers

You obviously know how to play this game. Ignore rank and trust your judgement.

I had 54 points on average before new year but 72 in second half and climbed to OR 1200.

Look for lower ownership players w explosion potential. That doesnt mean 'budget' players either.

Jones won't play again until next weekend, but there could always be an injury to someone else.

That Vardy fiasco today has me tempted to get the big three up top on my WC.

Have Ramsey and Antonio to downgrade and find value at the back. No more 2.5mil Overall rank for me after the IB.

Not at all. I'm taking today's points and running. Sane looks to be a regular-ish starter now so one of Kun/Jesus likely to miss out most weeks I reckon.

I feel the same way. I think I'm going to bring back Lukaku - more or less guaranteed to play 90 mins every week, very consistent so far, and has a peach of a fixture next week with Palace at home. Perfect fixture for Lukaku.
