Sunday’s solitary fixture gets underway at 4pm as promoted pair Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United square up at the Amex Stadium.

With many now filling their forward lines with premium frontman, we get the chance to run the rule over a trio of budget midfielders today.

The Seagulls’ Pascal Gross has played a part in all four of his side’s goals so far, serving up two goals and a pair of assists in his last two outings.

He was the second top transfer target for Gameweek 6, with over 381,000 transfers in.

For the Magpies, Matt Ritchie has bagged four assists in his previous three, while Christian Atsu’s goal and assist over his last two starts has also turned heads.

Indeed Ritchie and Atsu, along with team-mates Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba have been subject to heavy investment over the last week, with a combined 783,000+ transfers in.

Newcastle number one Rob Elliot is the most owned player for Sunday’s clash, sitting in 23.7% of squads after conceding just once in his previous three. Yet he is the most benched player in the Gameweek, with over 808,000 naming him among their subs.

Thanks for replies earlier. Gonna be tough get a decent midfield with kane, Morata, lukaku up front especially with low TV. 100.4

And back line not too hot either according to some. Appreciate the feedback. One shot at this WC and it has to be close to flawless as possible.

Quick evening question for you all.

If ownership was not an issue and it was based purely on gut feeling, who is the better captain option?

    Lukaku H to Palace

    Kane A to Huddersfield

Not the safest pick as ownership is not a factor, who do you think is the best pick?

Was planning on wildcarding after Gameweek 7. Did horrendously this week - got 40 points with Kolasinac to play. Should I stick with my guns, or wildcard early? I feel like many players have good games next week. This is the team I played this week. Got:

    Eliot (2).
    Alonso (0) - Davies (1) - Kolasinac (tbd)
    Salah (7) - Mkhitaryan (3) Eriksen (9) - Willian (3)
    Lukaku (7)- Vardy (6) - Calvert-Lewin (2)

    Benched: Foster, Can, Hegazi.

Did Mkhi to Silva to catch his price wise and need a City player.

    Should I wildcard or wait?

        Sorry, I captained Vardy.

He was on 12 points for me and drew the penalty and then the whole GW fell apart.

The shortest party Jamie Vardy has ever had.

Use my 2FT for 2 punts next GW and WC in the international break or transfer in more long term players (i.e. Jesus -> Morata this week) and save WC to later?

    Team:

    (2FT, 0.2 itb)

    Foster (Elliot)
    Alonso/Davies/Jones/Daniels (Mbemba)
    Eriksen/Alli/Ritchie (T. Carroll, RLC)
    Lukaku/Jesus/Firmino

I have the same dilemma. Except used 2 free transfers last week. I have Foster, Eiliot, Alonso, Davies, Eriksen, Lukaku. Got rid of Firmino for Vardy - what a headache. I like City but have Silva vs. Jesus. Started with Jesus, sold him and KDB. Last week captained Firmino and without Mane, he hasn't really scored. I'd way probably wait.

In a way he is, but it's not exactly a long term pick, that's my point. Both teams have good fixtures, both will get minutes, Jesus less than Morata but City more attacking than Chelsea so it's quite close, not exactly a long term shift as you might find yourself wanting to sell Morata for Aguero in two gw's time.

People have short memories when it comes to Firmino.

Look at his individual gameweek scores from last season ... lots of very long consecutive blanks.

I held him for about 12 gameweeks last season. By the time his points came, it was such a hollow victory.

    Get rid. ASAP.

    1. F4L
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 9 months ago

don't think you can say that. For a lot of those blanks, the Pool team was depleted, (coutinho injured, mane away at AFCON + injured). When Firmino plays up top, with Mane and Salah flanking him, with Coutinho in the mid, he will get points consistently

He plays well and Klopp loves what he does ... it just doesn't translate into fantasy football points.

Moreover, he is simply not a striker.

        1. F4L
          • 11 Years
          8 years, 9 months ago

possibly, but with pens I still think he will reach 15-20 goals and get his fair share of assists. Firmino owners need to be patient with him to get those points though

I speak from bitter experience. I was so patient with Firmino last season and I even ignored Alli and Eriksen to stick with him. It basically derailed my season.

It's the same manager, the same system, almost exactly the same personnel ... I wouldn't expect things to be vastly different.

          • 12 Years

Was he on pens last season? Salah coming in also heightens his appeal as so much defensive focus from the opposition falls to Salah and Mané

he may not be a classic number 9 but he is a forward.
He's basically in the same role as last year so he's offering a goal & an assist every 3 games. You'd take that most years from a mid or 8.5m striker.
This year is just different with more than usual premium strikers doing well.
captaincy issues aside Firmino & Silva could be a better option than morata & a 6.5ish mid.
Looked at a lot of the higher scoring sides (80+ pts) this GW in top100 or so and very few are using a loaded front line. Most had a couple of premium strikers but also had good points from balanced mids & defences.
I'm not sure I've seen many sides I like with loaded front lines. Yep they may return good forward points but the stripped mids and/or defences aren't offering a lot so scores (even in a big week for forwards like this one) aren't that far ahead of the average.

I'm not ready to write him off yet, still think he's a good pick, but he's taking up a valuable forward position which could go to a more in form player like Morata or Vardy. Plus I already have Salah from Liverpool.

Is Firmino the most frustrating player to own in FPL history? Worse than Hazard?

kind of agree, a little patchy but last season due to severe damagement around christmas due to LIverpools squad being bare and boned for a long run of matches

So my plan is to WC in GW8 but I have 2 FT's already so I wanted to spend those this week.

    Foster | Elliot
    Valencia | Davies | TAA | Suttner | Long
    Eriksen | Salah | Mkhi | Carroll | RLC
    Lukaku | Jesus | Firmino

    £0.0 ITB

One plan was to downgrade Firmino and then upgrade Jesus to Kane as his away form is killer at the moment. Or I could find a way to upgrade one of the £4.5 mids for one GW? Cheers.

Like the hit long term if you're aren't using WC next week.

        DDG - Elliott
