Next up, Newcastle United and Liverpool bring the curtain down on Gameweek 7 in the 4.30pm kick-off at St James’ Park.

The big news is that Roberto Firmino drops to the visitors’ bench for the first time this season.

With just one goal in his last five league outings, the Brazilian was second only to Sergio Aguero for transfers out last week, with over 266,000 parting company.

Today’s news looks likely to signal further sales, barring a virtuoso outing off the bench.

Firmino was the sixth top captain option for the Gameweek and the most popular from today’s late match. Over 128,000 backed him with the armband, with Mo Salah (115,000) next in line.

Interest in Philippe Coutinho is on the rise, though – he was subject to more than 186,000 transfers in after following up a 13-point haul at Leicester with a midweek Champions League strike at Spartak Moscow.

And lest we forget Sadio Mane – the only player to score in each of the first three matches prior to his early dismissal at Man City in Gameweek 4.

For Newcastle, Matt Ritchie’s creativity could profit against a defence that’s shipped 10 goals in their three away matches.

The Magpies’ midfielder has assisted three of Newcastle’s last four home goals, earning 17 points in the last two in front of his own supporters.

Up against the Reds’ prolific attack, there’s no surprise to see than Rob Elliot is the most benched player for the Gameweek, named as a sub by more than 1.1m owners.

Well, at this rate, the best forwards to have are the ones who score multiple goals. Lukaku is sorta a goal a game, six points. Morata (if fit) and Jesus have opponents where they could score big. Hard to choose!

A conclusion based on a huge sample or what? Remember people in here said that about Aguero few years ago before he scored five goals in one game or something.

Solanke will come for Sturridge if they are up 2-1 or 3-1 by 75th or so, which I think they will be. Oxlade, Milner, Can most likely to be used subs IMO.

I am a Firmino owner and would love him to come on as have Naughton - 2 pts - first sub, so would take risk of a Firmino late involvement goal/assist over a 2pt sub, but don't think he will as LIV wil be up 3-1 or so by then and a perfect game for Solanke to get 10-15 mins and for Can/Milner to rest Coutinho and shut up shop.

Any Newcastle supports know if Mbemba not included in squad due to injury? Seems odd to lose both starting spot and place in squad entirely due to form (one poor game v Brighton) would assume he is on bench. Long flights to Africa for international break maybe left out entirely with small niggle, who knows? Would actually be a factor in me wildcarding or not, embarrassingly enough.

It's not the players it is the mentality. Klopp does not have the defensive mentality - he sets up his team to attack and leaves them exposed.

That's a load of crap really.

The concede a goal because of a district league standard pump down the middle when the have two v one advantage.

That's nothing to do with mindset it's just crap defending.

        1. @persecuted_by_mods
            8 years, 4 months ago

It's a bit of both lads, defenders not the best in the first place along with average to slightly above average (Mignolet) keepers

Constantly left exposed and make individual errors as a result

Nothing to do with attacking mindset at all for me.

United / Spurs are attacking they aren't conceding stupid goals like that.

Klopp can't build or organise a defence.

You think that goal was a result of being left exposed? That's schoolboy stuff.

No it is because you play a high line, you don't have a proper midfield shield in front of the defence and you tell your full backs to bomb on.

If you can't defend that type of ball you shouldn't be in the premier league.

Neither of them are marking Joselu, neither of them are concentrating, neither of them are taking any responsibility.

High line for me is nonsense you should be able to play a high line and defend that. Complete pish defending.

They put ALL their eggs in the Van Dijk basket and it didn't work out. Small margins. If they had bought him + Clyne was fit - that's an entirely different proposition.

It's entirely their own fault though. They relied solely on one plan which they failed with early in the window. They were forced to cool interest in VVD and they had no backup plan.

Southampton have 3 Home fixtures in the next 4. (NEW, WBA, bri, BUR)

Looking at a cheap 3rd striker for the first time this season to let me bring in Kane alongside Lukaku.

Long looks to be getting starts and got to fancy a few Saints goals over the next month. Gabbiadini and Austin sharing the sub appearances.

      Morata Firmino > Kane Long

Leaves me with £2.3m banked. Rest of squad:

      Elliot (Foster)

      Monreal Jones Simpson (Naughton Mbemba)

      Salah Mkhi Silva Ritchie (Carroll)

      Lukaku Morata Firmino

The £2.3m could be used for a Hazard or KDB if one erupts or for a rainy day.

Other options include a -8 that sees Kane and Vardy in and probably Monreal downgraded.

Yeah so no, Soton a no go for me anywhere but at the back of the field. Toothless up front, a lot better options out there.

Kane and Vardy is something I like. -8 is harsh but Vardy have 5 goals in 7 matches and you know he can do a lot more. Last season was horrendous, but now that pressure is off and their fixture looking good.

        D. Silva is a cheaper KDB. And dont forget about Sanchez, I prefer him to Hazard. But why save millions for the future unless you already used WC?

Also, I would have Morata over Kaku if fit. Kaku is a goal a match, but fixtures not that great. Morata can blank but also hat trick, and over time I think he will outscore Kaku.

Kane, Morata and Vardy up front it is then.

        Btw, love your spacing 😉

      Over the next few gameweeks.

      A) Hazard + Fellaini (bench)

      Or

      B) Coutinho + Richarlison (could bench if needed)

Pool seems to hve a worse fixture list and Hazard looking good since back

I almost never score, but when I do, I prefer that the ball bounces off my foot and slowly goes into the goal, while the defender sits the in disbelief
