Sunday’s events did little to solve our striker problem.

We began the day scouting Alexandre Lacazette, who chose to blank in an Arsenal home match for the first time – frustrating the 265,000 who had acquired his services with the Brighton fixture in mind.

The Frenchman was also withdrawn early, with 20 minutes remaining, as Arsene Wenger handed Olivier Giroud some oxygen. That will always be an issue.

Clearly, Lacazette doesn’t fit into the same untouchable bracket as Alexis Sanchez; Wenger feels comfortable hooking and even omitting the striker from his starting line-up when he sees fit.

Combine that with the lack of away goals to this point, and it’s clear that the Gunners option has much ground to make up before we can consider him in the same bracket as Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku.

Even as a third striker, we’d have to keep Alvaro Morata and Gabriel Jesus ahead in the pecking order for now.

So where does Roberto Firmino sit in those ranks?

His omission from Jurgen Klopp’s teamsheet was perhaps no big surprise; we were braced for it.

However, it arrives as another telling blow to the Brazilian’s stock at a time when we desperately needed him to show form and cement his status as a third striker.

Now we will surely continue to see his ownership and value plummet over the break, with the confidence of his 1.2 million owners broken by a run of blanks and Klopp’s selection.

Daniel Sturridge hardly passed his audition to claim the central role, and Firmino will surely be re-instated for the visit of Manchester United in Gameweek 8, regardless of his long-haul flight home.

But Liverpool’s attack are clearly faltering. They relied on the genius of Philippe Coutinho for today’s breakthrough, but it’s not the chance creation that’s broken – it’s purely their finishing.

The numbers show that Klopp’s attack have averaged 20 goal attempts over their last two Gameweeks, with three big chances per match. But only 20% of their efforts have hit the target, compared with 41% from Gameweeks 1-5.

Sturridge wasn’t the solution, and Firmino will return, but is the damage already done?

There will be some who end up holding Firmino just because of the lack of alternatives: we have Jamie Vardy and a cast of mis-firing, inconsistent candidates at 8.5 or below.

Just like Lukaku, we may look for a change but arrive at Gabriel Jesus as the only route.

The Brazilian is clearly an extremely credible candidate, with the fixtures to fly. But he’s also a player who – by his own recent admission – was playing the role of a “winger” or not playing at all when Sergio Aguero was fit.

We can settle on Jesus for now, but few of us will believe that it’s for keeps.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I don't plan to wildcard. Assistance needed

    DDG (Elliot)

    Bavies TFM Kolasinac (TAA Rosenior)

    Salah Atsu DSilva Redmond (TCarroll)

    Kane Lukaku Firmino

I had two FTs, so I've done Redmond to A.King and kept 2.0 iTB.
King has risen and may rise before next GW.

Plan is to sell TAA for either DLuiz or Otamendi.

There is absolutely no possibility that King will rise again before the next GW. I own King but like everybody else I bought him because he was the only playing 4.4m mid. Nobody will buy him now he is at 4.5m unless using autocomplete.

Mkhi stays, mkhi to sterling just didn't feel right, nailedness for pepness, key player for historically inconsistent rookie, also had a quick peak at Huds gw9...

    Gw8 team will be
    Fabianski (Elliott)
    Davies Ward Clark (Jones Rosenoir)
    Silva Mkhi Salah Brady (Chalobah)
    (K)ane Lukaku Vardy

Any changes to the X1, anything worth a hit?

Of course your midfield is better than mine! Luckily we're not playing a game where only midfielders get points! Otherwise you'd have downgraded all your defenders and forwards to upgrade Chalobah and Brady to premium options!

If you have no FTs, I wouldn't make any changes. Each team is different, and you don't need to throw points away to homogenise your unique, beautiful creation. Save a transfer so you can more efficiently copy everyone else next week 😉

On a wildcard and a Lukaku-less team gets you so much. Strongly considering going with Jesus for 2-3 weeks and then returning to Lukaku once ManU have played Liv, Tot and Chelsea and take on NEWC at home GW12. That may be the perfect timing to get rid of Jesus since Aguero will surely be fit in a month or so. Tough.

It's not really a bet "Against" Lukaku - more what I could do without him. Have owned since GW1 and captained 6/7 gameweeks so far - so happy with my returns but have not owned Kane and think he takes priority in terms of penalty duty / overall form / etc.

To, SON ALLI KANE WAIT especially, but feel free to chip in anyone who feels like it!

I thought my team looked good enough, but maybe it's worth a wildcard even disregarding the price drops

    Elliot (sou)

Bertrand (NEW) - Davies (BOU) - Lowe (swa) - Kolasinac (wat)

Brady (WHU) - Mkhi (liv) - Alli (BOU)

Kane (BOU) - Laca (wat) - Firmino (MUN)

Will probably just go Firmino to Vardy if I do not wilcard. Or possibly Firmino and Mkhi to Jesus and Sterling (-4)

The problem is a lack of Citeh and Chelski, and Alli, not Eriksen.

You may also wish to consider Coutinho.

I know, agree on all points, but still: While Alli is in bad form, quite obviously, he could easily get good points at home to Bournemouth. And Lacazette could do well away to Watford, who will not park the bus. And Bertrand at home to Newcastle. And so on.

The alternatives I have are not -that- bad. So the main motivating factor is saving some dough.

What do you think of just going Mkhi and Firmino to Jesus and Sterling? (-4)

Not sure. But if not - doesn't that counteract the argument of getting City players?

Basically the reasons for wildcarding would be

            A) Getting in City and Chelsea
            B) Not losing value on Dawson, Bertrand and Alli

Are you wanting to hold on to GW12 for the next fixture shift to wildcard? I assume you are going to lose SV on Bertrand, Alli and Lowe (at least). The problem is what sort of team are you going to be able to afford when you do use your wildcard?

Although your team is ok for next GW do you really prefer Bertrand over Maguire, or Alli over Eriksen, or Laca over Jesus, or Kola over Monreal? You definitely don't want Firminho & probably don't want Mikhi either. My team was in much better shape than yours when I wildcarded last GW but I decided to go for it because I simply wouldn't have been able to afford the team I wanted if I had waited. I've jumped 1.2m OR and 0.5m in TV this week so i'm glad I did it.

If you do decide to wildcard do it tonight before the drops. Good luck either way.

Just been pondering over Man City's next 3 fixtures of Stoke, Burnley and West Brom. They are not exactly easy teams to score against.

Stoke may have Shawcross back fit after the international break, West Brom should have McCauley available and Burnley seem to be keeping things tight at the back with only 5 goals conceded thus far.

I think City will score against all 3 but I don't think any will be a goal-fest.

Just my thoughts, feel free to attach your own.

I don't think nearly 38 year old McAuley will add much to the West Brom defence.

I agree with Burnley but Stoke seemed quite vulnerable against Chelsea (although they were missing players from their defence) and West Brom wasn't great defensively against Arsenal.

And with their current form Man City is probably offensively the best team in the league, so not sure if they can hold up well against City. But the international break and the following weeks can impact their form, so hard to tell anything for sure.

Good points. Didn't realize McCauley was that old!! Doubt he will get to the half way line much often though, so he won't be doing too much mileage but will be wanted on set pieces.

I did dismiss the Chelsea game for Stoke due to the lack of 1st choice defenders. I think all 3 will set up with damage limitation in mind and try to nick goals from set pieces.

      That said, City

If they don't have Aguero, I don't think you'll see them score 5 or 6. Everyone's caught up in the City juggernaut and rightly so, but City drew 0-0 with Stoke and drew 2-1 against Burnley. Admittedly, they did beat West Brom 4-0, and Aguero got a brace. He is key to them scoring more than 2.

Right it requires getting rid of Lukaku though for CHE cover. I am not interested in their mids and the defenders are a bit expensive for my taste. Am sure injuries over INTL break will cause a re-work but this is my best draft for now. I am traditionally a risk taker who doesn't like a lot of value on the bench.

Hmm, it really does hinge all on Lukaku doesn't it, it's a toughie, if it wasn't for his ownership i'd of booted him out my team. Azpi, Alonso, Morata are the only chelsea players i'd get.

Right I may throw Luiz in there as he sometimes stands over free kicks and at 5.9m isn't wildly expensive.

I could do something like Morata instead of Lukaku and use that 1.4M or so to upgrade the bench slightly potentially, etc. It's very tough.

100% agree with this, if he scores big vs Hudds then trouble. Alonso and Azpi are too expensive imo and it really is a morata or lukaku call for most

Correct. If I downgrade Lukaku to Morata I can upgrade the team elsewhere. It's not easy. Especially with Morata hamstring.

Lukaku's lack of penalties (Mata / Martial) and 3 tough fixtures in next 4 are giving me a bit of pause...

4.4Mids Question for any Huddersfield or Bournemouth supporters:

Lewis Cook 4.4m played all 90 for Bournemouth today.

Hogg 4.4m Huddersfield started the last two (79 and 81 minutes).

Any chance for either of them to work as last sub option in a 4-3-3?

    Any update on Morata?

Much like Jones this GW it would be great to see people getting rid of him prematurely only for him to destroy Palace.

Simple question: would you wild card this lot?

    Forster (Elliot)

    Bavies, Jones, Mee (Dawson, Mbemba)

    Salah, Mkhy, Alli, Ritchie (Carroll)

    Kane, Kaku, Abraham

2FT....a solid start, 49k OR, 68 this week

I presume you are wanting to hold on to GW12 for the next fixture shift to wildcard. I also assume you are going to lose SV on Bertrand, Alli and Lowe (at least).

These are good points, and a lot of what's running around in my head.

Still - the issue is that not many players are rising. There's not much money to be made for sure; it's more a case of not -losing- money.

Jesus could rise 0.1, sure, but I'll just get him in then. Which others that are truly important?

Will keep Kolasinac on wildcard btw

        Couple of other points:

        Bertrand's fixtures are amazing

Alli is nailed to play against Bournemouth

As a Spurs fan I can tell you Alli is far from nailed. He's been awful for weeks and everyone thinks he needs a spell out of the team. Eriksen is nailed.

Check out this thread on the best Spurs fan forum if you don't believe me: http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/index.php?threads/player-watch-dele-alli.116424/page-146

the fact they have real after only a 2 day break and alli is suspended for it means he is absolutely certain to start vs bournemouth. he will want fresher legs vs real

not to mention it could be seen as a good game for alli to get some form back

I know, that's what I am thinking too. Would be so incredibly typical FPL, seeling Alli now , based on bad form and WC, only for him to haul against Bournemouth.

If you play your wildcard you can sell him tonight and buy him back 0.1m cheaper! He probably will start against Bournemouth but once his Euro ban is over after the next CL fixture don't expect him to be nailed in the PL.

Losing SV is a killer though. You need to gain 0.2m TV on a player to gain 0.1m SV. That's presuming you actually want to sell the player. When you lose 0.1m SV that's usually gone forever. In rare cases you might get it back if you hold on and the player regains form but usually you just lose another 0.1m. That means someone has to rise 0.4m to compensate and you have to sell them to get it. Meanwhile you are still stuck with your first player who has lost value presumably beacause he isn't performing.

Bertrand is a good example. He has great fixtures until GW12 when he will drop like a stone. Trouble is he will drop this GW and won't get it back. Why not swap him for Monreal who also has great fixtures, is getting more points, is 0.1m less and is rising in price?

The fact you have several such players suggest to me that a wildcard is in order even though your team looks fine for the next GW.

Hehe, yeah, you make good points.

Just have this gut feeling that come three GWs from now, when United's fixtures turn good, Arsenal's turn bad, and some other changes happen too - I'll really want that WC. Seeing as I have no United players now and two Arsenal players, I'm decently set up for exploiting the coming three.

Only issue is getting in City and Chelsea. Could do Sterling and Jesus in this week, and Azpilicueta in next
