Sundayโ€™s events did little to solve our striker problem.

We began the day scouting Alexandre Lacazette, who chose to blank in an Arsenal home match for the first time โ€“ frustrating the 265,000 who had acquired his services with the Brighton fixture in mind.

The Frenchman was also withdrawn early, with 20 minutes remaining, as Arsene Wenger handed Olivier Giroud some oxygen. That will always be an issue.

Clearly, Lacazette doesnโ€™t fit into the same untouchable bracket as Alexis Sanchez; Wenger feels comfortable hooking and even omitting the striker from his starting line-up when he sees fit.

Combine that with the lack of away goals to this point, and itโ€™s clear that the Gunners option has much ground to make up before we can consider him in the same bracket as Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku.

Even as a third striker, weโ€™d have to keep Alvaro Morata and Gabriel Jesus ahead in the pecking order for now.

So where does Roberto Firmino sit in those ranks?

His omission from Jurgen Kloppโ€™s teamsheet was perhaps no big surprise; we were braced for it.

However, it arrives as another telling blow to the Brazilianโ€™s stock at a time when we desperately needed him to show form and cement his status as a third striker.

Now we will surely continue to see his ownership and value plummet over the break, with the confidence of his 1.2 million owners broken by a run of blanks and Kloppโ€™s selection.

Daniel Sturridge hardly passed his audition to claim the central role, and Firmino will surely be re-instated for the visit of Manchester United in Gameweek 8, regardless of his long-haul flight home.

But Liverpoolโ€™s attack are clearly faltering. They relied on the genius of Philippe Coutinho for todayโ€™s breakthrough, but itโ€™s not the chance creation thatโ€™s broken โ€“ itโ€™s purely their finishing.

The numbers show that Kloppโ€™s attack have averaged 20 goal attempts over their last two Gameweeks, with three big chances per match. But only 20% of their efforts have hit the target, compared with 41% from Gameweeks 1-5.

Sturridge wasn’t the solution, and Firmino will return, but is the damage already done?

There will be some who end up holding Firmino just because of the lack of alternatives: we have Jamie Vardy and a cast of mis-firing, inconsistent candidates at 8.5 or below.

Just like Lukaku, we may look for a change but arrive at Gabriel Jesus as the only route.

The Brazilian is clearly an extremely credible candidate, with the fixtures to fly. But heโ€™s also a player who โ€“ by his own recent admission โ€“ was playing the role of a โ€œwingerโ€ or not playing at all when Sergio Aguero was fit.

We can settle on Jesus for now, but few of us will believe that itโ€™s for keeps.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone else baffled why Mark didnt get Bavies on his wildcard in gw4. considering he was very decently priced at 5.6 ?

Since then Bavies has got 1 goal 3 assists and 2 cs in his 3 starts. (without the game he got rested)

Costly decision that. he decided to roll his luck on 5m and below defs.

Quite a lot of people are averse to expensive defenders. Had Koscielny Alonso Rose last year and people were telling me to downgrade them constantly.

I'm on Davies, kolasinac & Otamendi at the moment.
Kola was only only a short fill-in originally with the view to switching to Chelsea defender.
I think it's still a sound move but there's a vanity factor in upgrading (in this case) the midfield.
Last season there was value in spending big in defence - maybe more so this season.?

Yeah I agree. We've seen some huge scores from fairly predictable defensive players. Davies, Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Man U have all had nice returns. Definitely better than similarly priced mids.

Wait for news on Morata. If he's out, replace him. If he's in, it's tough, you have no obvious duds other than Tadic who has better fixtures than his replacements. I'd probably swap him to Richarlison just to not lose the free transfer and then curse as he finally got a haul.

What hurts with Richarlyson is that I got Martina and Kolasinac for Yoshida and Hegazi instead of Bellerin and Richarlyson for Hegazi and Tadic 2 GWs ago and since he's not got the fixtures anymore - I'm avoiding at least until his fixtures get better.

I kinda don't - that is why I was thinking of getting Fernandez (Swansea) for him this week, play Tadic one more week and get Choupo Moting on a free come GW9.

Obviously this idea could change but I'm really confused.

Of course I won't be actually captaining Lukaku next GW but I still feel that he'll get something against that defense then he's got Huddersfield while Kane has Bou and Liverpool at home where (at Wembley) he's yet to score I think.

Looking for ideas of what to do with this lot

    DDG / Elliot
    Bavies, Mee, Femenia, Mbemba, Hegazi
    Ramsey, Eriksen, RLC, Tadic, Carroll
    Kane, Morata, Lukaku

Have completely lost patience with Tadic and would like a City mid, but only £1.2m itb

    Thinking along the lines of

    Lukaku & Tadic -> Jesus & Sane
    Hegazi & Tadic -> Martina & Sterling

Looking for inspiration, not doing anything til I know the severity of Aguero and Morata's injuries obviously

I think dropping Lukaku for Jesus would be worth it (Assuming Morata's healthy and Kun's not), but cashing out on Hegazi makes a lot of sense and has a lot less risk than selling Lukaku.

Leave Mhki for now? Might do something against pool I suppose.

Yeah he's still nailed for a good attacking team. Don't know why everyone is removing.

    Elliot
    Davies Monreal Bellerin Martina
    Atsu Ramsey Salah
    Kane Morata Lukaku

    Legz Carroll Mbemba A.King

    1FT 2.3 mill

What's the priority (assuming Morata is fine)?

    A) Martina -> Azpilicueta
    B) Atsu to 7.3 the priority?
    C) Ramsey to 9.3?

    Thanks lads.

Think both martina and Ramsey need to be upgraded in that 433, , maybe Ramsey to Silva and see who you can get for mbemba/martina next gw

You could go one of the Arsenal defenders to Azpi and you still got cash for a mid upgrade. Punting on Martina is risky but fixtures are great.

Hi all, got in Ward for Naughton with my ft as I was desperate to get rid of my double ups in defence but now need to make a decision re Mkhi. Context: own silva and Lukaku

    A) Wait for morata news, consider mkhi + Vardy to Richarlison + Morata -8 (the crazy move)
    B) Mkhi to Sterling -4
    C) Mkhi to Sane -4
    D) keep MKhi, he's a good long term option despite the fixtures

My choice will be Mkhi to Sterling but in next game week instead of taking a -4 hit.
You're probably a Liverpool fan, but Mkhi has decent look against Liverpool's shaky defense...

I'm not blind to our defenders, or as I like to call them 'false defenders' lack of quality, even as a Pool fan, him and Lukaku could do well, just hope our attack is at its sharpest too. Cheers both

Thinking to just do 1 transfer and save. The transfer done is Hegazi to Monreal.
    Team for Gw8:
    Foster
    Lowe, Alonso, Jones, Monreal, Davies
    Silva, Eriksen, Gross
    Kane, Morata
    Subs: Elliot, Mooy, Chichcharito, Carroll
    1.4 in the bank
Hoping Morata is fit for CPL and no injuries on International duty.
Not a fan of taking hits.
    Does it look good.

What would you do with this team? (0.2 in the bank)

    DDG / Elliot

    Mee/Morgan/Naughton/Davies/ (B.Smith)

    Eriksen/Salah/Ramsey/Miki/Carrol

    Ayew/Kane/Lukaku.

    (Still Have WC)

    Thoughts appreciated

Keep Alli for Bournemouth at home or offload for an in form mid such as Silva or Sterling? Already have Eriksen n Kane if that makes a diff.

Thinking of saving next GW and then doing..
Bavies in for Yoshida (or other 8.9m) in for Alli.
    WC in GW 12.

    Fabianski.
    Kolasinac, Yoshida, Mee.
    Atsu, Alli, Choupo-Moting, Eriksen.
    Kane, Lukaku, Vardy.

    Elliot, Jones, Carroll, Mbemba.
    1ft, 0.2m

I'd probably just wait till after Bournemouth then decide with 2 frees, may open up more possibilities

Could an Alonso and Azpi double up be golden with the fixtures ahead?
Trying to figure out how to try to afford it.

That's the thing. I think something like Azpi+Otamendi will work just as well for 1.5 cheaper.
could be the difference between Morata and Firmino for example.

Any suggestions for this team folks? Any of the below moves make sense? Thanks

    1. Kun and Dawson > Jesus and Davies
    2. Kun and firmino > Jesus and vardy

    Ddg
    Alonso Bertrand mee
    Eriksen silva gross Carroll
    Kane kun firmino

    Elliott Dawson chalobah mbemba

2, is more required imo, but I'd be tempted to do all 3 given that davies is such a great option assuming you have 2 frees
