It’s been quite a start to the season for Ben Davies. Currently leading all defenders in terms of points with 49 – a number which trails only Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku at any position – the Welshman’s form is inarguable.

In the six matches in which he has featured (Davies was rested for Spurs’ home encounter with Swansea in Gameweek 5), he has returned an average of 8.2 points per match (ppm) – more than a point clear of his closest rival (Antonio Valencia’s 6.7).

Last season, Davies performed admirably while deputising for the injured Danny Rose – racking up a goal and three assists, in addition to his share of Spurs’ league-leading clean sheet total. However, his attacking returns this campaign (two goals, three assists) have already exceeded last season’s totals in just 30% of the minutes.

In order to better interpret this attacking leap, we’ll be breaking down Davies’ early-season heroics, and looking for players who might serve as good benchmarks for projecting the Welshman’s performance over the remainder of the campaign.

Just remembered, didn't Mkhi play a though ball to Kaku who messed up the initial pass only to score the rebound? Technically should be 2 blanks in the last 4, I think I'll hold Mkhi for now.

I own Silva so it's only Sterling I would consider. Just not sure that swapping United's playmaker for Sterling is the right thing to do, especially for a hit.

I think I'm also keeping him for two more, can't justify a hit to remove him when he's ticking along, as you say, that Stoke game makes his numbers look worse than they are.

There's a bit of KDB about it in the sense that loads sold him because he didn't do more than others then he produced, patience worked on that one.

Ox was a better RWB than Bellerin for the short period we played with wingbacks. He was worth more to Arsenal than he is to Liverpool, so it's swings and roundabouts for Arsenal.

Walcott's contribution is making good runs and executing 1/10 situations. Chamberlain's was getting the ball forward, which is often quite a big problem for Arsenal. Shame this was the only thing he actually did and at any other position than RWB (where you can't let him single-mark a player either), he's completely useless.
That 1/10 execution is actually better in comparions, so yes, he would be better than Chamberlain.

Watched some Mkhi hightlights and he doesn't look half as bad as the stats say he's been. Swapping United's playmaker for sterling for a hit just doesn't feel right, might just keep him and reassess, but does mean I don't get my 5th defender upgrade 🙁

How does this look going forward?

    Fabianski (Elliott)
    Davies Jones Ward (Clark Rosenoir)
    Salah Mkhi Silva Brady (Chalobah)
    (K)ane Lukaku Vardy

Might downgrade Brady to March and then look to get my fifth defender upgrade that way. Salah could well be a season keeper for me, 5 goals and 2 assists in 5.75 appearances, not a player I'd want out of my team any time soon. Brady is on his last legs in my side is he does nothing vs west ham, could have March doing nothing for cheaper and more flexibility in the team with a playing 5th def

Just missed sterling debate before page change. My thoughts are

    1. He costs 7.9 and would enable me to get Jesus in if Morata is out
For 7.9, its not really too huge a punt for Stoke and Burnley at home then West Brom away. You don't get 7.9 players to captain them, they're calculated gambles.
    2. With Aguero out, Sterling and Jesus look pretty safe bets for now so I'm happy to double up given how many goals City score.
    3. He has 5 goals (in 6 games) which, is more goals than any midfielder so far
    4. Had he not got the red card (-3) he probably would have got a couple of bonuses (2) and a few points the following week (say 3). He's on 35, that would make him 43 and one of the top scoring midfielders
    5. He has started 4 of the last 5 and was banned the when he didn't and has 90 minutes 3 of that 4. And he started vs Chelsea so Pep trusts him.
    6. He can be quite explosive and with no Kun in these fixtures, he'll surely be involved more.
    7. Last night was England. Nobody plays good for England. Plus, they were barely interested from what I saw. They'd already qualified.

I've owned Silva at various stages in different seasons. Never once has he managed a big score. He might be a good option as a season keeper to keep ticking over points, but he is exactly like Mkhitaryan. They will score a few assists and bonus and that is it.

Players like Sterling, Alli, Eriksen, Salah.... They offer an explosiveness and potential for big returns. Perhaps higher risk, but also higher reward.

I would much prefer a player like this, especially since midfielders give higher returns for goals!

I dont understand the Sterling/Sane hype.. Both are rotation risks (KDB and B.Silva can be deployed as wingers as well, the former perhaps in order to make room for B.Silva or Gundogan in midfield) and/or risk being subbed off early because of CL. When Aguero returns the worry intensifies.

If they dont get regular game time people will have to transfer them out again. Waste of transfers imo.. especially worrying that people seriously consider doing Miki to one of them for a hit.

Pep won't use De Bruyne or Silva out wide. They're the driving force of his team and he wants them running the game centrally. Bernardo Silva may get more minutes now but Sane and Sterling don't need to play 90 to get points, they don't even need to start. I may look to get rid when Aguero returns but tbh I was already interested in Sterling before Kun got injured and right now he looks like an absolute bargain.

Sane. 237 minutes. 3 goals 2 assists. Goal involvement every 47 minutes. Sterling 387 minutes. 5 goals. A goal every 77 minutes.

Id say thats not bad and neither needs a full game to get a decent return.

This wont be happening everygame.. did you pay attention to some of their goals? As in how they were scores and under what circumstances they scored? Stats is not Alpha Omega in every case.

And if one is rested for the fully 90 min goals pr min ratio is irrelevant.

I agree that it is a decent punt om a FT depending on who you sell. But for a hit? No way.

Also if you look to get rid again because of rotation it will be hard to fit in a premium priced midfielder (+8.9) without using another FT / take a hit unless you save money itb.

Take up Bridge. That's how I made money when I was there. 😀

Well, Baines is nudging my wingback table, and Williams has popped up on the Dangerous Defenders ...

Koeman inherited a good Southampton team but has bought average players for alot of money and is failing. As a United fan we already knew that Rooney was finished 2 seasons ago and couldn't believe that Koeman thought he was the answer to Lukaku's goals. Siggurdsson Klassen and Rooney are all No10's.

He's a good albeit inconsistent and frustrating player (being good but inconsistent probably bumps you down to decent), but as I've said in the past being assisted by KDB and Silva surely means he does well despite his admittedly debatable individual quality

To me it seems that every year he has a period (normally early on, up to October or November) where he looks really good, and then goes on to disappear. Didn't he score a hat-trick or something two seasons ago, only to not score another goal (or something like that)? I feel like this conversation took place last year as well.

Yeah in 2015-16 and went on a goalless stretch but I suppose he wasn't performing as well as he is this year. Last year, he performed similar to this year and went without either playing or getting goals/assists from GW 7 to 15. Frustrating player.

in footballing terms and in regard to what seems to be consensus is that Sterling is a lesser gifted player than the rest of his team-mates. I´m not the one to go into debate about it and i don´t like him much, displeasing from an aestethic point of view (in footballing terms) but what people seems to forget that he does contribute to the City team as a unit because he has qualities that combines well with the other. He runs down the channels, he is constantly running into the box, both as a target and also to obstruct defenders from Jesus or Kun. He runs alot, which means he is tracking down players, gives energy to the play, both offensively and defense-wise, he is also underrated when it comes to the tacticial part of the game, if you look at how he defendshe is quite good at it, aside from Firmino and some other he is one of the better attacking minded players in the defense department, which is crucial to the way Guardiola likes to play. This may sounds like an apology for Sterling, but is isn´t.

in other words, City would have been totally numb if all eleven consist of K.de Bruyne kind of players, as good as he is he needs someone to run into channels, open up and dragging defenders around etc.

I'm sure he works well tactically for City, I'm just saying that every time I get him into my team he goes out of form and loses his starting position. This post was just me saying he was an annoying player in my experience with him.
