It’s been quite a start to the season for Ben Davies. Currently leading all defenders in terms of points with 49 – a number which trails only Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku at any position – the Welshman’s form is inarguable.

In the six matches in which he has featured (Davies was rested for Spurs’ home encounter with Swansea in Gameweek 5), he has returned an average of 8.2 points per match (ppm) – more than a point clear of his closest rival (Antonio Valencia’s 6.7).

Last season, Davies performed admirably while deputising for the injured Danny Rose – racking up a goal and three assists, in addition to his share of Spurs’ league-leading clean sheet total. However, his attacking returns this campaign (two goals, three assists) have already exceeded last season’s totals in just 30% of the minutes.

In order to better interpret this attacking leap, we’ll be breaking down Davies’ early-season heroics, and looking for players who might serve as good benchmarks for projecting the Welshman’s performance over the remainder of the campaign.

    Ben Davies is not a good option to bring in, if you do not already own him. He has bad fixtures and soon he will be too much of a rotation risk.

    Agree?

    I think "ownership" is fast making a claim for dumbest concept over "cover". I might sell Lukaku just because of this.

      Explosive, highly owned plus highly captained = big worry if they explode and you don't own them if your picks don't do well, massive point swing. Kane & Lukaku fall into this category.

          True, just depends if you're willing to take the risk. I'm not, I'd rather take risks elsewhere and have the two best captain options in the game in my side

            I can understand the case where the highest owned is the standout captain option, but I don't think Lukaku is close to that for the next four weeks at least. My biggest reason for keeping him would simply be that I got him at 11.5 but that seems so negative!

      I agree. I never pay attention to it for ownership or captaincy. I just pick (and captain) the players I think will score the most points. Oddly enough, choosing players who will score points works quite well πŸ™‚

      Yes, it suits United better. Valencia the only one with a late return. But Mané & Salah only play once so that helps Liverpool, they only have issues with Coutinho and Firmino. And with their defence, of course, but that has nothing to do with international fixtures. πŸ˜‰

      You have 3 options imo, none of them involve removing Lacazette or Lukaku as you have more pressing issues.

      1. King -> Choupo Moting.
      2. Mbemba -> 5.3 def
      3. Eriksen/Salah & Mbemba -> City mid + Chelsea def (-4).

    Fabianski / Elliot

    Too early to get Hazard this GW?

      Yeah I think so. He's not exciting me as a pick this year. Better value for money elsewhere I feel

      Is gameweek 8 too early? No.

      Is it too early in the international break? Yes.

      Nope think he'll do well.

      All depends who you have to sacrifice to get him in.

      I can't seem to afford a team with Kane, Jesus, Lukaku, Alonso and Hazard in it.

        This. I think I go for 2 big on top (Jesus / Lukaku) with Hazard / Eriksen in midfield. Also own Alonso. This is for until GW11 and then using WC.

        Just difficult to find good budget forward..., surprise.

    Walker taking free kicks πŸ˜†

    This is pathetic, has he ever taken a free kick before

        He should never ever be on free kicks ahead of kane and rashford

        Even dier taking one is pushing it too far

        I was fully expecting this to be the worst free kick of all time.

      He scored a worldy against Blackburn a few years ago. Nothing since then.

        I've gone blank on his name, but a Leeds player scored a hatty of free kicks v Rovers once!

          Only remember Leeds players name from the Bowyer, Kewell and Harte days. Maybe it was Harte? He had a fantastic freekick on him
