Sunday did its best to provide incident and excitement, although it was always going to be difficult to follow on from yesterday’s spoils. An unexpected Manolo Gabbiadini brace stole the show, while assists for budget midfielders provided the rest of the Fantasy fare, as defences buckled in both matches.

Gross the provider once again

Brighton has now scored six goals this season, with Pascal Gross involved in five of them.

The German claimed his third assist of the season with his interception that lead to Anthony Knockaert‘s sweetly struck opener.

Gross took an ownership 14.1% into Gameweek 8, having been signed by over 109,000 new managers, although another 68,000 saw fit to move him out. They may be regretting that decision this evening after another steady six-point return from the budget midfielder.

It was Knockaert who went into the campaign considered our most likely attacking option in the Seagulls ranks. But the Frenchman has been on the periphery until today. He fired a first goal of the season on his recall to Chris Hughton’s starting XI following his benching at Arsenal.

Both midfielders can build on Sunday’s points over a continued run of favourable fixtures over the next four Gameweeks. Hughton’s men face visits to West Ham and Swansea, while Southampton and Stoke are the next visitors to the Amex Stadium.

However, that run is more likely to promote interest in the Brighton defence and, intriguingly, we may have a new budget option available to us.

Shane Duffy was forced off with what looked like a thigh problem to be replaced by Uwe Huenemeier, who, at 3.9, may now be called into action. The German is already owned by 6.2% of managers as a bench warming budget option but could now enter more squads should Duffy face a spell on the sidelines.

Gabbiadini delivers as Forster falters

Manolo Gabbiadini scored his first goals since Gameweek 2 with a brace against Newcastle United to provide a rare double-digit return.

The Italian first pegged back the visitors with a fine solo effort before converting a spot-kick after Shane Long was felled.

Dusan Tadic was on the pitch at the time of the award, indicating that Gabbiadini has now assumed penalty duties. Tadic had previously taken and scored a spot-kick ahead of the striker against West Ham in Gameweek 2.

Gabbiadini was recalled to the Saints starting line-up today having been reduced to cameo roles since his last start in Gameweek 4. He had suffered a loss of 190,000 owners over that spell and went into today’s game as part of just 95,000 squads.

The 12-points appear unlikely to spark a renaissance, although Gabbiadini’s confidence levels will be boosted ahead of West Brom’s visit in Gameweek 9. Another return against the Baggies could see some begin to reconsider the striker, although his previous inconsistency, coupled with the availability of Swansea City’s Tammy Abraham, will likely temper interest.

Fraser Forster‘s uncertain display helped ensure that Southampton had to settle for a point.

The keeper was slow to react to Isaac Hayden’s first-half strike, while he also lets Ayoze Perez’s shot rebound back to the striker for the eventual winner.

Forster is part of 9.0% of squads and went into Gameweek 8 having produced nine points via a penalty save at Stoke City last time out. That haul had earned him 56,000 new owners before Saturday’s deadline, second only to Newcastle’s Rob Elliot who picked up 70,000 managers. Both keepers produced just a single point to reward their recent investors.

Elsewhere for Newcastle, Christian Atsu recovered from the knock that kept him from international duty and duly delivered an assist for his 4.2% ownership. The Ghanian’s initial drive was blocked before rebounding to Hayden to convert the Magpies’ opener.

Like Atsu, Matt Ritchie also figured having recovered from the injury that kept him out of Scotland’s squad over the break. However, his role on set-pieces remains reduced by Jonjo Shelvey’s presence. Ritchie took 13 of 15 corners with Shelvey out of favour but shared them four apiece today.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What do you reckon will happen with Aguero back?
Will both Jesus and Aguero start?
And who will then be benched, given everyone is doing well atm?

It's gonna be a tough one but I'd honestly be content with any of Sane-Silva-Sterling. The way City are looking, they'll be in for grabbing points off the bench too

Well the main players going forward are Sterling Silva KDB Aguero Jesus Sane....with Bernardo Silva and the like itching for starts..

So somebody has to be benched.

They're all iffy picks in terms of the odd bench but can all easily score pts off the bench anyway.

Yeah, I guess given Guardiola's history of rotation, they might switch around a bit until someone dips in form?
Anyway, I think you're right about the points off bench thing

I now have Jesus Sterling and Sane. If I am realistic 2 of this could get rotated out in one GW. In fact I think it will happen some week. Luckily they don't need 90 to haul.

Any suggestions on what to do with Brady or Lowe? I've got 2 FTs and 0.1 ITB. Would like Richarlison, but that would require downgrading someone else (such as Salah to Sterling/Sane)

    My current team:
    Elliot
    Jones - Kolasinac - Davies - Maguire
    Eriksen - Silva - Salah
    Kane - Lukaku - Abraham

    Foster, Brady, T.Carroll, Lowe

Seeing how you don't have Jesus/Kun, losing one of Salah or Eriksen for Sterling/Sane and upgrading Brady is a wise move.

Who's worth keeping, Salah or Eriksen? I have Kane, don't have any other LIV players. (Also, dropping Eriksen would allow me to upgrade Mbemba>Ward/Mee/Moreno, if that changes anything)

Most of us if not all have Kane so I'd say Salah is more worth keeping, Eriksen's price + superior fantasy teammate goes against him here. I see 3 options: Salah, Sterling, Silva, all cheaper than Eriksen, that on current performance won't be too far, if at all behind him or perhaps even in front of him in 5-10 gwks time. Kane is United's main threat and currently Salah is ours

Decided on my -4 this wk.

    Ramsey, Antonio, Vardy OUT
    Salah/Coutinho,Sterling, Abraham IN

But would you pick Salah or Coutinho??

As mentioned the extra 0.2 saved by getting Coutinho means I could wait till CL is done with.

Also anyone looking at Daniels?? His fixtures are awesome.
One 4 rating and seven 2 ratings on nxt 8 games.??

Coutinho was btw pools best player by far against united, and I think salah's lack of finishing ability will make cou the better pick going forward.

And yes, considering daniels in for either kolasinac or cresswell. Might switch my goalie from forster to bego in gw 12 as well

Chicharito > Abraham has got to be my easiest transfer so far this season. Cheaper, better work rate, more clinical, plays for an equally bad team but tries so much harder and looks like he'll put any chance he gets away.

Ditching one for kun/jesus? Kane does have two games against real madrid coming up, so if you feel like you have another decent captain option in gw11 you might be able to get away with it. Tough to say though, as Kane could explode at any time again, so I'm personally going for a double up in midfield from city

Already ditched Kane before first Internation break with a bad result... no more. Dont get me wrong I have C him everytime when he blanked and vice versa but think he is a season keeper and he is fixture proof. Besides... got him for 11.4 and if I have to get him again it will be an issue.

Unfortunately, I already owned him, and so captained over Jesus this week . I would not have brought him in, otherwise, and would've been the better off for it. Kane is excellent and will score, even at Wembley, but I just think that the budget can be better deployed elsewhere.

    Elliot (krul)
    Davies Jones Naughton (TAA Mbemba)
    Eriksen Salah xxx TC (RLC)
    Kane Jesus Aguero

7.0 to bring a midfielder.. who should I go for? As you can see I might also need to upgrade defence a bit in the near future.

I suppose you mean that in a good way..

Had Laca and mikia be4.. bringing in Kun + richarlison or a stoke midfielder perhaps.. then I got plenty of cash to upgrade defence

Best midfield options at 4.6 or under guys? (That isn't Carroll) Looking at Surman, Cork, Stephens as potentials. Who do we reckon? I know none of them are consistent scorers but transitioning to 4-3-3 so need another one in alongside Carroll

Loftus-Cheek. Could be great now that Zaha is back.

    Fabianski
    Otamendi - Davies - Holding - Luiz
    Hazard - Silva - Coutinho - Richarlson
    Vardy- Kane

I would play Calvert-Lewin over Holding personally.

Ok so anyone getting Sterling tonight before another price rise?

Any serious arguments against him now?

I'm going to gamble. I know the risks but compared to Alli, it's probably worth it.

Wait for Champions League before making the transfer is the best reason, I'd say.

Aguero is back.. that might push jesus out to either wing and leave only one spot up for grabs.. him and sane will share time.. if they switch to 3-5-2 both Sterling and Sane are in huge danger.. monitor midweek and let that 0.1 slide

    Salah to sterling?

Nope. Watch the game back and especially the first 45 minutes. Salah is a menace and creates so many chances. Misses a load but he will bring in points consistently.

I want to keep him because his fixtures turn great after Spurs.... he might score v Spurs too if Pochetino is too adventurous! But I’m getting Sterling another way.

Chip Davies out for a City defender?

Contemplating this myself, but may be mad. Davies to Otamendi on a straight swap may be good for the next couple of weeks but not certain in the long-term.

    Elliot
    Davies Otamendi Cedric
    Silva Salah Richarlison Moting
    Lukaku (c) Kane Vardy

Fabianski, RLC, Ward, Mbemba. 2.5m in the bank.

    A) Mbemba -> Jones and bench Richarlison
    B) Save

For someone who's deleted their team on multiple occasionas, that is actually quite decent...
