It is almost inevitable that Manchester City should dominate the hearts and minds of the Scout Picks selection panel this week.

The relentless tide of goals from Pep Guardiola’s men is difficult to ignore, so they haven’t. However, that won’t stop the debate from raging, with the foursome split on the chosen striker. Friday will be heated.

Elsewhere, there are shoo-ins and tactical votes to review, while after a Gameweek 8 drubbing for the panel, we reveal the latest community member to take on our pundits.

Paul says…

Starting at the back, I’m endorsing the West Ham defence to claim a clean sheet at home to Brighton on Friday night, with Aaron Cresswell’s steady supply of crosses down the left earning him my nomination.

Only Spurs and Arsenal produced more shut-outs at home last season than Slaven Bilic’s side (eight). This term, they’ve kept out their opponents twice in three at the London Stadium, with only Spurs finding the net against them.

Having opened his account for the season last week, Michail Antonio – who fired more shots on target than any player in Gameweek 8 – offers a differential option, with less than 1% ownership.

A double-up on the Man City midfield looks viable, with Raheem Sterling’s goal threat and David Silva’s creativity making a very persuasive case.

Yet having been benched for the last two in all competitions, Sergio Aguero is my top forward pick – he looks likely to earn a recall as he goes in search of their all-time scoring record at home to Burnley.

Elsewhere, Stoke’s Eric Choupo-Moting and Swansea striker Tammy Abraham boast strong home fixtures and will both set you back under 6.0.

Choupo-Moting has fired more shots inside the box than any midfielder at home ahead of a visit from Bournemouth. He’s already bagged a brace against Man United at the bet365.

And Abraham has served up 21 points in his last two at the Liberty, courtesy of three goals and six bonus. The youngster has played a part in 80% of his side’s goals and hosts a Leicester City side in freefall and disrupted by the sacking of Craig Shakespeare.

Jonty says…

A key factor in our heavy defeat to Gameweek 8 community champion Mine n Tatties was our hesitation in investing in Manchester City attackers ahead of their 7-2 hammering of Stoke at the Etihad. While he went for three – Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus – we cautiously only opted for the England winger.

I advocated doubling up on the City midfield last week with both David Silva and Sterling, and I’m doing the same again this time around. Following early substitutions against Napoli in the Champions League, this pair look among the surest starters and racked up a total of 22 points last week alone.

I’m not stopping there though in my adoration of Guardiola’s troops, as I’d also like to see Gabriel Jesus, who has scored six in the league, involved. For me, he still looks a better bet for a start over Sergio Aguero, who has been recovering from a rib injury and was an unused substitute for City’s last two games.

There should be enough in the bank to afford this attacking City trio should I win the argument that Harry Kane can be swerved for Liverpool’s visit.

The Spurs striker has yet to score in the league at Wembley, with team after team managing to shackle him on its expansive surface. Will Jurgen Klopp bring a Kane-halting bus, to follow the lead of Swansea, Burnley and Bournemouth?

The German certainly has bus driving form, with the London side failing to score more than one goal in any of their five Liverpool clashes since he took charge in October 2015.

If any Spurs player is likely to break down the Reds resistance, it is more likely to be another of my midfield picks, Christian Eriksen, whose guile in the final third ensured he got the better of the Cherries’ defensive resolve at the weekend.

I’m also backing Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata to earn his fourth double-digit haul when Watford drop by Stamford Bridge. He looks a far better prospect than Kane this week, and substantially cheaper, too.

Elsewhere, Swansea’s Tammy Abraham, who earned 13 points last week, is among my top value picks, particularly as Liberty Stadium visitors, manager-less Leicester, have only claimed one shut-out in their last four.

Another budget selection I’d like to see in our final XI is Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, who travels to a Newcastle side that last kept a clean sheet in Gameweek 4.

Peter says…

At the time of writing, a lack of cast-iron insight on FPL’s top performing asset – Sergio Aguero – means that we have to speculate even more than usual.

City, of course, continue to dominate everyone’s thoughts, with that 7-2 pummelling of Stoke fresh in our minds as a very open Burnley side, missing its first choice keeper, rolls up at the Etihad. Only Pep dictates his players’ game-time, so I am in no position to criticise anyone’s speculations or choices for City players, just so long as our squads are maxed out on Sky Blues. I’ve gone for Sterling and Jesus once again and resisted the powerful temptation to triple up on their attack by slotting Nicolas Otamendi in.

The other half of Manchester also looks likely to get back on the scoring trail against a struggling Huddersfield Town side with just one goal from their last six games. I love a defensive double up, so David De Gea and Phil Jones join Romelu Lukaku as Manchester devours my notional budget.

The team which struggles to score at home (three goals in four games) takes on the team which can’t keep a clean sheet away from home (eleven goals conceded in four games) when Spurs host Liverpool on Sunday. The only time my loyalties strayed from Harry Kane he paid me back with a brace, so this time I am backing him, the in-form Christian Eriksen and the Reds’ Mohamed Salah to profit from a high-scoring game at Wembley.

Elsewhere, Newcastle looked a shoo-in at home to Crystal Palace before the Eagles’ rose up against Chelsea last weekend to claim their first win. This is a tough one to call, but two mid-price midfielders could well get among the points in the form of Matt Ritchie and the talismanic Wilfried Zaha.

In truth, that means I need to scour some of the less fashionable teams in order to afford such a rich spine, and I’ll be forced to go into hiding when Chelsea host Watford in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

Mark Says…

The headline news is that I’m backing Aguero.

I love to speculate and theorise and, unlike some who see Guardiola’s decision to keep Aguero benched in the last two as indication of a new pecking order, I see it as the City boss keeping the striker under wraps specifically for Burnley’s visit.

Aguero needs a single goal to break the club’s scoring record. Guardiola has previously stated that he wants to celebrate such an event and he’ll surely want the goal to arrive the Etihad.

With City sharing the goal pie all season, I see Aguero starting with the star-studded supporting cast determined to hand the Argentine the opportunity to reach his milestone.

Elsewhere Raheem Sterling and David Silva are in the mix, though I’ve strategically promoted Stoke City’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting up my ranks in order to reinforce his Scout Picks credentials. I like his home form and Bournemouth, as we’ve seen, can prove obliging opponents. Unless you’re Spurs at Wembley, of course.

The Community Champion

Representing the Community against the Scout Picks in Gameweek will be Oddjobleff, who is in his fifth campaign, with last season’s impressive finish of 398 his best to date.

The community champion who has the best lead over the Scouts during 2017/18 will win a £100 Amazon voucher (currently we can only offer Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com vouchers).

Gameweek 8’s champion Mince n Tatties, beat the Scouts 56 to 39, however, the champion to beat remains Gregor, who achieved victory over the Scouts by a 33-point margin in Gameweek 5.

Vardy owners are you eyeing up the switch back to Firmino for gw10? Liverpool have a lovely run of fixtures so tempting to double up on Salah and Firmino, Moreno may also be coming in at a later date

He always ends up with double figures in goals and assists each and every season so he isn't suddenly a terrible option, he does well when the team is doing well and scoring a lot of goals usually

I'm not convinced about Firm - I think Salah and Coutinho offer higher ceilings and more points with the extra goal and clean sheet points. I think Firm is under threat from Sturridge too, and he is impotent when played further back.

I think a downgrade to a sub 6.0 or preferably an upgrade to Morata/Jesus/Aguero makes more sense.

Sturridge has been woeful when given the chance. Couts and Salah do have higher ceilings but they aren't his competition, Vardy is

I’m a bit stuck with my team guys. I want Sterling in this week, but it is a case of how…I’ve got 0.9 ITB.

      Schmeichel, Elliot,
      Davies, Jones, Kolasinac, Mee, Clark,
      Salah, Chopou-Moting, Eriksen, Carroll, Chabolah,
      Kane, Jesus, Vardy

      A) Salah and Clark – Stones and Sterling (-4) Then next week – Erik for Coutinho/Salah. Money to be used to get in Morata/Aguero via a Bavies downgrade.
      B) Chabolah and Vardy – Sterling and Abraham (-4).
      C) Any other options?

Really stuck, want to save a FT but am I being too conservative and overlooking this week?
Save FT is what my guts telling me, the other options are the possibilities that I fear 'could' pay off big time but I'm just not sure.

            -----------------Elliot-------------------
            Alonso Davies Jones Fernandez
            -------Eriksen Silva Choupo-------
            ---------Kane Jesus Firmino--------
            ---------------------------------------------
            Foster RLC Carroll TFM

            1 FT, 1.9 ITB

            A) Save FT (one eye on Eriksen & Foster/TFM > Sanchez C & 4.0 for free next week)
            B) Eriksen > Sterling C (rules out Sanchez C next week)
            C) Kane > Aguero C (can still get Sanchez C next week)
            D) Firmino > Morata (rules out Sanchez C next week and also loses only Pool attack)

I may as well post this as I was at the game tonight.

Morata was very poor and doesn't look 100% fit to me. He should have been able to expose Fazio (a real slowcoach) for pace but couldn't. I think he was 90% at best and I'm guessing he hasn't trained much.

I wouldn't be bringing him in right now myself based on what I saw tonight. And I wouldn't be captaining him if I had him already.

Take it or leave it but that's what I saw.

Very good, best Chelsea player by a distance and is nearing his best again. But Chelsea aren't in good sorts. I'd be worried about how many chances they will create right now although they were much better when Pedro came on and they went to a 3-4-3.

I will make it easier this time

I have Salah and jesus ...

Who's more important for next 4/5 games

Sterling Vs Coutinho Vs Hazard !!

                Forget about money now

I wouldn't want to be without Coutinho from GW10. And I won't be. If that answers the question. But as I already have Sterling and Hazard it may be that my answer is of no use. 🙄

So tough. If you need a Captain this week then Sterling. Cout for next week and the week after looks so juicy. Hazard from gw14 (dream run) maybe can wait. Plus you say money not important, but always is, for example you may not have Lukaku but will want/need that cash to do Jesus to Lukaku in gw12. So after all, and considering C this week, Sterling.

Have 2 FT, regardless of if Ramsey's flag is removed time to ship anyway? Zaha and Fabregas look decent options in that bracket or could bank some cash on Choupo-Moting.

Zaha could be great value imo and also Richarlison after this week ...

Don't know why I prefer Shaqiri over Chopou moting

I don't know the situation with Ramsey but do know that after the deadline Friday when team resets he'll have SWA next to his name. Kind of game where Arsenal turn it on.

Martial is interesting if Rashford is out for any length of time. I thought he was ahead of Lukaku on pens (Mata first choice), but not sure on that.

I'm monitoring as well, I've always been a fan of Martial. And yes, I expect him to be ahead of Lukaku in the penalty pecking order, though behind Mata.

So my back four is Alonzo, Davies, Jones, Mee, and Mbemba. I have already used my free transfer to bring in Sterling. With Davies and Jones questionable for this weekend, should I upgrade Mbemba to a playing defender for -4 hit? I am worried about Mee being substituted and actually yielding negative points or even being in a situation where I don't have enough defenders. I would not normally take a hit for a defender, but I am not so sure with this. I would wait until the last minute for any transfer for more news.

I've got a similar defence and even worried about Alonso maybe getting a rest, let alone Davies and Jones. Not worth the hit though, just leave it. Unless Davies is ruled out then sell him for a hit.

I think Lukaku will do well this gw, even if that happens is is still worth twisting to Kun (assuming he plays), particularly for the gw10 captaincy? Probably means no Kaku gw12 if I do twist or will have to how Kaku drops

Playing WC at the moment, how does the team look?

Yeah Kolasinac on paper looked the better bet but Bellerin has proven otherwise so far.

Mine is Hazard, given his ownership. But he's always trolled me so I'm not confident.

with the mood constantly changing from week to week, saving a FT looks a good move if you can get away with it and keep your finger off the trigger (I rarely can!).

                                I have this team atm,

                                Elliot krul
                                Stones bdavies Alonso tuanzebe mbemba

                                Kane morata Quaner

1 ft 0.2 itb. Plan is to save the ft to next week, and bring in two out of coutinho salah richarlison for eriksen and miki. Which two would you guys suggest? Currently leaning towards coutinho richarlison cause that would allow me to get upgrade tuanzebe to a playing defender for cover, as well as bringing in ddg after the Chelsea game. Thoughts?

Just save and worry about it next week. The ones and plan you mentioned all look good though. Although Davies might have to be sold soon

I'm keeping ben. And planning to bring in Jones so that he and stones can provide cover when Davies goes mia.

I just realised that if all the flags and injury worries are correct I'll only have 1 playing defender this week 😆 (Lascelles)

I'm expecting Davies and Jones to play, but I can't say I'm 100% relaxed...

I fully accept responsibility for this - I took a punt on Martina in my GW6 wildcard because of fixtures. He did play the first two after that but now appears to be second choice again.

Defense obviously suffers for that front 8 but gee that's a nice front 8. Would have normally said downgrade a City mid and upgrade defender but I don't think that's sound advice atm.

Thanks mate. Trippier I feel could be good for the "in" at Spurs. Tempted to do Yoshida to Jones.. Yeah I just can't steer away from City atm! Torn between Aguero and Jesus

I prefer Aguero to Jesus myself and yes Yoshi to Jones would be tempting as we're just not getting what we expected out of Southampton defenders (Bertie owner).

Eriksen owners, will you be keeping through the tougher fixtures?

                                      Front 7 is currently

                                      Hazard, Eriksen, Silva, Richarlison (Chalobah)
                                      Kane,Jesus,Abraham

Thinking of swapping to Coutinho next week myself.

i'll be keeping for sure , Spurs are more than good enough to score against anyone in the league so ``tough`` fixtures don't really matter for their attackers , their defensive assets would be a different story though

Just had a brain wave, considering my other def options will be at that point: Jones, Daniels, Ward who can all take gw11 when Bellerin has City, I could bring Bellerin in for Davies for a hit if if looks like Davies won't play, Bellerin has 2 very nice immediate fixtures

Could work but to be honest I'd only do that if Pochettino flat out said that Davies is out 100%, which is unlikely.

True, Davies is great if fit but he's starting to be unfit a little too much for my liking

Yes, I'm definitely selling Davies soon - the only reason I sold Kolasinac instead of him was team value, which I figured was the only thing I could be certain of.

Sure does, hopefully as people say if it's a clean break it's 'good' potentially, provided the surgery goes well.

Great OR but so many problems in my team..

                                      **not starting atm

                                      Problems:

                                      1. I really want Kun as I need a reliable (C) next week.. Jesus played 90 min and will prolly not play a full game and might even be rested. No other obvious (C) options

                                      2. I got two defenders flagged and two non-starting defenders on the bench
