Dugout Discussion – West Ham vs Brighton

A third Friday night kick-off of the season brings us to the London Stadium and a Gameweek 9 opener between West Ham and Brighton.

Sadly, the Fantasy interest in this fixture is somewhat limited.

The Hammers defence has kept three clean sheets in their last five Gameweeks, but that’s not been enough to keep left-back Aaron Cresswell in the starting XI.

Arthur Masuaku has been pushing for inclusion in recent Gameweeks, with impressive cameos from the bench that have brought two assists. He gets the nod tonight, with Cresswell dropping to the bench.

Elsewhere, Chicharito’s start always looked guaranteed once he was declared fit with Andy Carroll suspended. The Mexican – who is still owned by 15.7% – looks to be the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1, with an attacking trio of Michail Antonio, Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic patrolling behind.

Meanwhile Brighton – who make their second appearance on a Friday night – boast the 14.7% owned Pascal Gross.

He gained an assist at Bournemouth on his last Friday outing and has remained integral for the Seagulls, earning another assist in Sunday’s draw with Everton. He’s been involved in 83% of Brighton’s goals when on the pitch.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        Ya I feel the want for a dbl L'pool attack and MU & Spurs with poor fixtures is swinging it.

        I captained Lukaku this week but he's first out the door this week as I can see a 2 2 score v Spu & Che. Aguero about to rise so it makes sense to rid of lukaku for Aguero on WC and if he starts tomorrow and explodes then can downgrade Jesus to Firmino for their run.

        Ya I think it's the right time with that fixture and leave myself the option to get Lukaku back from GW 12 onwards. Pool fixtures with Hud home next week is swinging it for me with the Spu v MU game a disaster for the current crop

      Difficult to draw that conclusion from tonight tbh. Teams like this usually show promise early on and will run into problems the longer the season goes on. But a good result none the less

    It's a really tough moment for these fans. They've had a tough couple of years. Performances have not been great for two years and this feels like the nail in the coffin.

    I like Slaven Bilic, he feels like a good, honest man. He'll front this up but I don't see how much longer he can go on.

      It's a shame we are having to discuss this, but it is the elephant in the room.

      I think he is actually a good manager. When he had good players such as payet the team had a good thing going and Slav had a good system.

      But then you look at the current system and I ask myself what we are doing. E.g. - we buy a proven goal scorer in Hernandez. But he is only going to be the player we need him to be if he has service which he has none of so far. I feel we bought a great striker, but haven't got the right system/players around him for us to succeed.

      Can Slaven find something that works? He is struggling to at the moment and it's becoming quite apparent when you look at some of his decisions lately. E.g. - when we were playing spurs we were on the front foot due to our pace. Antonio got injured, and I was expecting Slav to bring on another pacey replacement, but he brought on Caroll which immediately change our dynamics and soon went 2:0 down.

          Lost the plot would be too strong because I do genuinely like him and think he's s good manager.

          But he's been struggling with the squad for too long now.

          Hate to admit it, but I think it's time for a change.
