Time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we cast an eye back at the previous weekend’s action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 11 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

Fixture MoTM
West Ham vs Brighton Glenn Murray
Chelsea vs Watford Michy Batshuayi
Newcastle vs Crystal Palace DeAndre Yedlin
Man City vs Burnley Kevin De Bruyne
Huddersfield vs Man United Aaron Mooy
Swansea vs Leicester Riyad Mahrez
Stoke vs Bournemouth Junior Stanislas
Southampton vs West Brom Sofiane Boufal
Everton vs Arsenal Mesut Ozil
Tottenham vs Liverpool Harry Kane

Kevin De Bruyne was once again the headline act for Manchester City. Similar to Phillipe Coutinho last season, he seems to be able to pick up the award despite numerous team-mates also excelling.

With the Belgian also avoiding rotation in the Premier League so far, he offers a cheaper and more consistent captain pick than either of City’s frontmen.

De Bruyne and Harry Kane now lead the MoTM standings, with four apiece.

Aaron Mooy continues to stand out as a budget pick. His monopoly on the awards (three so far) was signposted pre-season, and he has not let us down, sitting ninth overall for midfielders.

Gameweek 11 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 11 points or more in bonus for the season.

members

Four of the top six spots are taken by Man City players as Pep Guardiola’s emphasis on passing continues to exploit the bonus system.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Notes

A rather severe drop in rank this week – my third dip in a row – signals alarm bells for my side.

It’s easy to pinpoint the error of my ways. A lack of Man City players has been devastating, while faith in the likes of Eden Hazard and Jamie Vardy has been misplaced so far.

I’m considering a mini-overhaul, but will try to stagger it somewhat to take advantage of extra players by changing them mid-Gameweek, starting with Fraser Forster to Nick Pope (5.5) on Monday night.

Forster has been a very good source of points for me, in fairness. He’s the second highest scoring keeper in the game, but something has to give in order to raise some much-needed funds.

With Pope churning out saves in a decent defence and Southampton’s fixture swing on the horizon, the move makes sense.

I have also strongly considered Julian Speroni (4.9) and might still go in that direction, but the lack of a Monday night captain is edging me towards Pope at present.

Richarlison, Kevin De Bruyne, Nicolas Otamendi, and possibly even Wilfried Zaha, may enter my side in the coming weeks as I go on the attack.

It’s all about how long I can hold off.

The only reason I had Vardy was to cover captains, and it feels too early to bail on him when Leicester City have some preferable matchdays coming up.

Likewise, with Hazard, I only recently brought him in and believe he will start to rack up points. But how long can you wait while players like De Bruyne (for 0.3 less) are out-performing him with ease?

I could yet just throw caution to the wind and bring in all five players mentioned above, foregoing several captains along the way.

I need scented candles and a lie down.

Captain Plan

Sat 28th – Coutinho (HUD)
Sun 29th – Vardy (EVE)
Mon 30th – Pope (NEW)

Otamendi - David Luiz - VVD - Ward
    Haz- Sterling - Richarlison
    Kane - Jesus - Vardy

    (Fab - RLC - TC - Wimmer)

    1.0m itb, 2FTs

Haz Kane to Morata Salah using 2fts?
Would have 4.7m itb, thus even if Kane is back for the Palace game, I can do Jesus/Vardy to Kane.

Ward will get clean sheets. I'm not sure what good 4.5m defenders are available, maybe Swansea?

I'd probably want to get rid of Morata before Jesus. Both could do well but I prefer Jesus, Morata tougher fixtures in the short term. Although Kante could be back soon so Chelsea could improve.

Cheers. There's Moreno and Duffy for example. Actually I could probably afford Naughton at 4.6 too in most of those

            1. TallestJohn
              • 9 Years
              8 years, 9 months ago

Moreno is a bit of a troll but if he plays and Pool shape up at the back he could score well. Bit risky.

I was thinking Fernandez from Swansea, good bonus potential if they keep a clean sheet.

Whenever I see 4.5m I usually think Ward and Lascelles because I got them both at 4.5m and forget '4.5m' doesn't mean '4.7m'

A - keeps open the issue of Morata/Jesus. Some half decent options available at 4.5.

If you go for a 4.4, does that let you get Kane next week, irrespective of a drop?

Oh Christ. My calculations are out of whack, and to think I took about 10 mins writing this.

Without a drop, Ward + 4.5 DOES allow Morata > Kane next week. Who would you recommend?

        Cheers 🙂

I am chasing, chasing hard. Way too far behind leaders in mini-leagues, but I have high hopes for the upcoming months.

    This week's dilemma:

    a) Go for RLC as backup for Kane, even though he might not start?

    b) Go -4, doing Hegazi to a def who will CS this GW, and play him instead of Kane and RLC.

If b, please advise on who to bring in. Really not sure who I should bring. Current def is SWA/NEW - SWA/MUN/SOU/WHU/Hegazi.

I have Kane And Vardy up top.

I also have Coutinho. So Kane out and Cout a major doubt.

Worth doing Kane to Firmino? This will mean I will be able to Vardy to Kane next week (if fit). So basically I would be daisy chaining Vardy to Firmino.

Always been like that since he's come in. Shame really as City look likely to win the league yet it's hard to pinpoint which players are nailed other than possibly D.Silva / Otamendi / Ederson etc.

when Pep came to the league ,I was so happy that Aguero would score 30+ goals. But guess not.

He loves the prospect of developing players aswell which doesn't help, obviously one of the great manager but in terms of FPL it's a nightmare scenario really.

exactly my point ,he is great for the club.I like his style of football. One of my all time favourite mangers. But as an FPL manager, I wish things were more "stable".

To be fair the only way he could be 'more clearer' is to announce his team sheet before the weekend.

This. He addressed his injury concerns (Kompany), anything beyond that would be giving away tactical information to the opposition.

Hello guys. What would you do with this lot and 2 FT's.

    Pope
    Dunk, Mee, Stones, Jones
    Hazard, Silva, Richarlison, Choupo-Moting
    Jesus, Vardy

Subs: Elliott --- Kane, Davies, Stephens --- 2 FT, 0 ITB

    A) Kane -> Lacazette and save other FT
    B) Davies & Hazard -> Yedlin & Sanchez and bench Kane
    C) Something else, what?

The funny part is actually I might think Lukaku is better transfer in for Kane than Lacazette and Morata.

    - Better longterm
    - Best captain gmw 12

Morata only got this week as an advantage on fixtures. Morata is not in form and got Roma away on tuesday. Michy will probably get some mintues.

Lacazette best captain this week, but got City and Spurs the following weeks. The fixture is not better than Lukaku's. He "never" plays 90 min either.

I'm not saying I'm going to get Lukaku now, but its interesting. The best option might be just save and play people like Carroll/RLC and save yourself for -4p.

But he is more expensive.. as you will prolly want kane back for gw11 and also own Aguero there is no room for kaku

Keeping. If Kun would be nailed I'd bring him in for a hit and captain.
