And now it seems that Leroy Sane is Pep’s new favourite. Surely we can’t go on like this, bending to Guardiola’s whims and moving from player to player as he switches his affections?

And yet, as this is typed, Fantasy managers are doing just that, making way for Leroy Sane’s arrival in their squad by selling David Silva and even Raheem Sterling. Just as last week we saw thousands eject Gabriel Jesus to welcome back Sergio Aguero.

As it turned out, that move went unpunished. The Brazilian could not deliver at The Hawthorns on starting ahead of Aguero, failing to even record a single shot on goal in a match that City dominated and registered 15 attempts.

That’s an alarming statistic and one that hardly offers encouragement for his security of start. Jesus’ owners will already be concerned that today’s decision to rest Aguero is further indication that Guardiola’s two main strikers are job sharing.

The midweek teamsheet in Napoli will provide new clues as to the intention for Gameweek 11, when Arsenal visit the Etihad Stadium. Depending on the teamsheet in Italy, Aguero could get the start against the Gunners, as he bids to finally break the club goal scoring record on home turf. That could see Jesus back on the bench. Maybe.

Pep’s rotation across his “five forwards” is clearly in full swing. There’s almost a system; almost a tantalising pattern forming.

Today Bernardo Silva started, while Raheem Sterling was omitted for a second successive Gameweek. However, this time it was Sterling who was the one of the five chosen for the now standard 30-minute cameo. He capitalised on that opportunity. Sterling’s goal – a seventh of the season – issued a reminder that he can work for us, even when handed limited pitch time.

But just three weeks ago, the idea of back-to-back bench roles for Sterling seemed improbable. He had started five successive league matches when available, with Pep smiling on the winger as his favoured “support striker” option.

Now Guardiola’s gaze appears to have shifted to Sane. The German has now started five successive league matches and seven of last eight in all competitions. In those five Gameweeks, he has supplied four goals and five assists and now sits on top of the overall FPL standings.

The case for Sane is strong, but is he really immune to his manager’s selection policy?

These continued attempts to break the code and work out Pep’s next shuffle is tiresome, but perhaps not as futile as the current market trend of moving from one City asset to the next.

Surely we have to commit, accept some frustration and hope we get value from our weapon of choice.

It’s highly debatable if that can be either Aguero or Jesus at this present time. However, one of Sterling or Sane, with Silva the less explosive but more dependable choice, looks the way to go.

Playing for higher stakes could pay off, but Guardiola’s game of roulette appears to be a major distraction for our transfer policy at a time when options like Eden Hazard are edging back into contention.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Jones was pretty good from what I saw...plenty of clearances and tackles.

Luiz not so much...he ran into midfield and lost the ball a lot.

    4. Pochecinno

They played in different games. It's completely arbitrary to compare the two. Why not compare Azpilicueta (2 bonus points) with Bailly (0 bonus points) instead?

You call me dull but you have no idea how stupid you are.

You say it's arbitrary to compare Luiz with Jones because they played different games. You then said it's better to compare Azpi with Bailly? Jesus christ.

Oh gravless one, you are a tool. Poc clearly articulated his point while you tried to twist his words. Your original post - 'The bonus points system is awesome' - was naturally sarcastic and he tore your BS down by expanding the pie.

'You then said it's better to compare Azpi with Bailly?'

No he didn't, you inferred that from his application of another example. Applying your logic, the use of another example could as much be saying one is a worse comparison rather than a better comparison. But that misses the point. And it would seem you in fact lack the faculties to understand the concept contradiction despite swimming in it.

I think the bps system for good or for bad is based on data more scientific than "pretty good" and "pretty bad".

In what way was Jones "pretty bad"?

      1. BIind Moth
        9 years, 12 days ago

        " Phil Jones – 6

A performance that improved with time. Started the game as not overly assured and was guilty of a few misplaced passes. Clashed with his ‘keeper to hand Sissoko a chance of goal in the first half. His second 45 minutes were much better."

        1. BIind Moth
          9 years, 12 days ago

FYI - David Luiz was rated an 8 for his performance.

        2. how now brown cow
          9 years, 12 days ago

Where's that taken from though? It's just one persons opinion. The ideas of the bps is that every block, tackle, whatever is recorded to take out the opinion.

In a game like Utds where there weren't any excelling attackers, a defender is likely to rank higher and Jones often scores well in the bps index.

These stats are available and should be considered when you buy a player.

I owned Jones from GW1 and doubled with Bailly initially. My logic being Utd (despite the initial goal flurry) are essentially a strudy defensive team where defenders will get baps.

Chelsea have better technical players such as Hazard who will often hoover up the baps, plus Azpi tends to get better bps scores than Luiz.

          These things can be predicted.

    City Strategy:
Pick 3 attacking players and stick with them.

Silva KDB for me. Maybe Kun as well

Think Sane's a better pick than Silva or KDB. He delivered A LOT, really.

What to do with Davies? Sell for Jones? (Closer to deadline obvs)

Nope. Spurs plays vs. Palace next GW... Hold.

Cheers. Will probably lose him over the IB then 🙂 (likely WC time to shed all rotation risks!)

Cheers - I'm probably WCing in the next IB, so will likely hold until then at least

If he starts vs Real I'd sell and visa versa.

      1. Klopptomist Scott Jelly
        9 years, 12 days ago

Ta - is it that straightforward for Poch though? Trippier and Aurier seemed to interchange fairly randomly...

        1. Rainer
          9 years, 12 days ago

His 4 wing backs will be constantly rotating thats the problem. Too expensive to have that issue every other week.

            9 years, 12 days ago

Aye for sure. Probably going to WC over the IB so will just be firefighting until then I think!

lucky bench boost from this guy. could have easily been only 2 points from it

    1. Klopptomist Scott Jelly
      9 years, 12 days ago

Why would you play BB with two flagged players? Sensible sub order would have got him nearly as many points...

haha exactly, just the one point from speroni in reality.

Ouch. One of the worst uses of a bench boost I’ve seen. Bet he won’t be top 5 come May.

Why would you BB boost that selection of useless fodder in the first place. That is not a good BB return even if they did get lucky.

    4. Infamy, Infamy
      9 years, 12 days ago

If Hunemeier doesn’t play, Fernandinho would have auto-subbed in anyway. A 1 point bench boost. Terrible decision.

    Hey deadzoners!

I transferred out Kane this morning, making it now only three players who I’ve kept in my team since week 1: Elliot, Alonso, Lukaku. Have wildcarded.

Just wondering everyone else’s season keepers so far, out of curiosity?

Salah, Elliot, Mee, TCarroll and Begovic here. Not WC'd yet though, and Kane was in until injury. Jesus has come in and out of my team (started in and shipped for Lukaku, brought back in for Firmino when Aguero injured)

I too sold Kane, but I still have 7 more. What a lineup!

Elliot, Jones, Mee, Long, Salah, Carroll, Abraham.

Wow people are loyal here (or not knee-jerky!). I wildcarded in GW8 and from my initial GW1 squad I only have Elliot left.
