And now it seems that Leroy Sane is Pep’s new favourite. Surely we can’t go on like this, bending to Guardiola’s whims and moving from player to player as he switches his affections?

And yet, as this is typed, Fantasy managers are doing just that, making way for Leroy Sane’s arrival in their squad by selling David Silva and even Raheem Sterling. Just as last week we saw thousands eject Gabriel Jesus to welcome back Sergio Aguero.

As it turned out, that move went unpunished. The Brazilian could not deliver at The Hawthorns on starting ahead of Aguero, failing to even record a single shot on goal in a match that City dominated and registered 15 attempts.

That’s an alarming statistic and one that hardly offers encouragement for his security of start. Jesus’ owners will already be concerned that today’s decision to rest Aguero is further indication that Guardiola’s two main strikers are job sharing.

The midweek teamsheet in Napoli will provide new clues as to the intention for Gameweek 11, when Arsenal visit the Etihad Stadium. Depending on the teamsheet in Italy, Aguero could get the start against the Gunners, as he bids to finally break the club goal scoring record on home turf. That could see Jesus back on the bench. Maybe.

Pep’s rotation across his “five forwards” is clearly in full swing. There’s almost a system; almost a tantalising pattern forming.

Today Bernardo Silva started, while Raheem Sterling was omitted for a second successive Gameweek. However, this time it was Sterling who was the one of the five chosen for the now standard 30-minute cameo. He capitalised on that opportunity. Sterling’s goal – a seventh of the season – issued a reminder that he can work for us, even when handed limited pitch time.

But just three weeks ago, the idea of back-to-back bench roles for Sterling seemed improbable. He had started five successive league matches when available, with Pep smiling on the winger as his favoured “support striker” option.

Now Guardiola’s gaze appears to have shifted to Sane. The German has now started five successive league matches and seven of last eight in all competitions. In those five Gameweeks, he has supplied four goals and five assists and now sits on top of the overall FPL standings.

The case for Sane is strong, but is he really immune to his manager’s selection policy?

These continued attempts to break the code and work out Pep’s next shuffle is tiresome, but perhaps not as futile as the current market trend of moving from one City asset to the next.

Surely we have to commit, accept some frustration and hope we get value from our weapon of choice.

It’s highly debatable if that can be either Aguero or Jesus at this present time. However, one of Sterling or Sane, with Silva the less explosive but more dependable choice, looks the way to go.

Playing for higher stakes could pay off, but Guardiola’s game of roulette appears to be a major distraction for our transfer policy at a time when options like Eden Hazard are edging back into contention.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've just made this move. I got Silva in when Pep was playing 352, but can't resist Sané any more, especially with Arsenal up next.

Silva could've, maybe should've, scored 2 today so this move may bite some weeks.

It's a luxury transfer tbf. Do it if you can't easily afford Sané at 8.7m+

I've got .6 ITB but was looking to keep hold of that, it'll go towards funds to upgrade a defender to Azpi in a few gwks. Think I'm gonna do it

    8. We Will Klopp you
      9 years, 12 days ago

Tbh, if it were me I'd do it. there are risks there but if both are playing it's clear who's the superior option, Sane's playing regularly, highest scoring mid, just can't pass up on that. Only concerning that despite City scoring well Silva has only registered once in the last 3.

Yeah think you've talked me round to do it, only reason I went Silva over Sane to start with was just because of the minutes. But since I brought him in Sane's played every game, I know he'll get a rest every now and again but his points potential in comparison is way higher.

    1. We Will Klopp you

Good, don't like Luiz as an option at all, no attacking threat, no baps, just clean sheets. Daniels has a great run of fixtures from here on

      1. nkhoughton

Sane going up in price and Daniels dropping tonight kind of annoying so waiting is not an issue if I definitely get Daniels

No attacking threat? Have you ever watched Chelsea play?

  13. Sánchez
    9 years, 12 days ago

So I take it the free hits weren't successful this week?

Seemed dangerous to do it on a week where Kane and Aguero weren't going to play and Lukaku had Spurs.

Jesus, Kane, Kun, Lukaku, KDB, Salah, Sanchez, Lacazette, Morata, Mane, Coutinho, Alli, Eriksen, Ozil ... all limited to a no show or just an assist at best.

Basically only Hazard over 9.0 was decent. Wasn't even like we didn't know in advance with half of them.

The bit i found odd about it was the use of a chip on a weekend where captain pick was extremely difficult

We all knew kane and kun were missing out.

    2. The Son Haz got Atsu on
      9 years, 12 days ago

what if you own kane and kun and sterling and Coutinho with a weak bench ? Arsenal seemed like the ideal use for this chip coz great fixture and ropey ones to come. Juat luck of the draw that the popular picks didn't get the job done

      1. Sánchez
        9 years, 12 days ago

That's fair enough in that case

      2. FPLHaggis
        9 years, 12 days ago

I owned all 4 and have a weak bench.

However, my hands were tied with regards to the Free Hit because I had brought in Morata and Kun last Friday before being priced out and would be 0.6m off them now with the transfers I made.

I scored 26 but feel well placed going forward.

Have to say yesterday was one of those days in fpl where almost nothing goes right. There are usually a couple of them every season. So frustrating, team actually looks decent but it's difficult to get a sustained run going

      the opposite for me..

the last few weeks were horrible to me, but i have finally managed to have a good week.

84 thanks to Jones, Kolasinic, Sane, Sterling, Hazard (c), Morata, Lukaku and Chica.

Elliot and Maguire left to play

good work but goes to show also how volatile the gameweeks are

one week amazing the other absolutely dreadful

          yeah, i totally agree.

we just need to be patient and accept that one week Sterling is going to be benched and the other he will start and get a haul.

No point in tickering all the time with all this rotation.

early transfers are very risky as shown by the last few weeks

        yes...
but if fplstats are correct it will be a 0.2 swing in TV and I wanted Sane badly..

    Silva --> Hazard
    For free, yes or no?
First want to do Silva --> Sane but don't want to take rotation risk.
    Thanks.

Thoughts on J. Gomez or Moreno?

Liverpool's defence isn't great, but they are great value for 4.5
