Sergio Aguero returns to the Manchester City teamsheet at the expense of Gabriel Jesus as rotation up front continues.

Mauricio Pochettino alternates his wing-backs as Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier are benched at home to Crystal Palace, while Rafa Benitez’s switch to 4-4-2 fails to pay off as Newcastle slip at home to Bournemouth.

Here’s the second of our Line-up Lessons articles – the first can be found here – assessing the teamsheets and formations from Gameweek 11, with one eye on what’s to come following the international break.

Manchester City

Starting XI: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, D Silva, Sterling (Gundogan 78), Aguero (Gabriel Jesus 62), Sane (Bernardo Silva 87). Subs not used: Bravo, Danilo, Mangala, Toure.

  • What we saw: Pep Guardiola rolled out his usual 4-1-2-3 formation for the home encounter against Arsenal, handing starts to Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero in place of Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus. Having gained a 3-1 lead, the Citizens ended the match in more of a 4-5-1, with substitute Ilkay Gundogan operating in a deep-lying central midfield role, while Bernardo Silva was stationed wide on the right.
  • What we learned: Guardiola’s side continues to be settled in many areas, barring the rotation among the forward players. But he will be without the suspended Nicolas Otamendi for the trip to Leicester City after the international break after the Argentine picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign against the Gunners. If Vincent Kompany (calf) isn’t fit to return, the versatile Danilo could come in as a replacement, with Eliaquim Mangala an alternative. Sterling, Aguero and Leroy Sane will perhaps form the front three once again, although, with a UEFA Champions League clash against Feyenoord on the Tuesday night, both Jesus and Bernardo Silva are options to start. City have qualified out of Group F but will perhaps want three points to seal top spot. Notably, Brazil face England at Wembley next Tuesday, so long-haul flights are not a factor. Meanwhile, Aguero is with the Argentina squad for two friendlies in Russia, including a Tuesday afternoon encounter with Nigeria. Elsewhere, Gundogan may also push for more minutes, although after starting against Napoli, he’ll perhaps be given the nod against Feyenoord and therefore preserved against Leicester.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, flanks, central striker

Manchester United

Starting XI: De Gea; Jones (Fellaini 63), Smalling, Bailly; Valencia, Matic, Herrera, Young (Lingard 79); Mkhitaryan (Martial 63), Lukaku, Rashford. Subs not used: Romero, Blind, Darmian, McTominay.

  • What we saw: Jose Mourinho named an unchanged starting XI for the trip to Chelsea, sticking with the 3-4-1-2 system. But after falling a goal behind, the Man United boss switched to a 4-3-3, withdrawing Phil Jones after he’d picked up a yellow card, and bringing on Marouane Fellaini in central midfield. Anthony Martial replaced Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with the Frenchman operating on the left of the front three, seeing Marcus Rashford move across to the right.
  • What we learned: After adopting a three-man defence against two top-six rivals, Mourinho is likely to revert back to his favoured 4-2-3-1 at home to Newcastle United after the international break. Chris Smalling is the centre-back most at risk of dropping to the bench, with one from Martial, Jesse Lingard or Juan Mata set to start in the attacking midfield positions. Fellaini will certainly push for a start and could replace Ander Herrera in central midfield. Paul Pogba is also thought to closing in on a return, although Gameweek 12 will likely come too soon for the Frenchman.

Current Status: Slightly Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, central midfield, flanks, attacking midfield

Newcastle United

Starting XI: Elliot; Yedlin, Lejeune, Lascelles (Clark 55), Manquillo; Ritchie, Hayden, Shelvey, Atsu (Murphy 82); Gayle, Joselu (Perez 68). Subs not used: Darlow, Gamez, Diame, Mitrovic.

  • What we saw: Rafa Benitez switched to a more attacking 4-4-2 formation for the home fixture against Bournemouth, with Dwight Gayle recalled in attack to partner Joselu. The other change saw Isaac Hayden come in for Mohamed Diame in central midfield. Two of Benitez’s substitutions were enforced, with Jamaal Lascelles (ankle) and Christian Atsu (muscle problem) both withdrawn due to injuries, while Ayoze Perez was brought on to play just behind lone striker Gayle in a 4-4-1-1 system.
  • What we learned: The more attacking approach failed to pay off at St James’ Park, and with the injury concerns, changes could be in the offing for the Gameweek 12 trip to Manchester United. Ciaran Clark and Jacob Murphy will be on standby to replace Lascelles and Atsu, while Perez and even Aleksandar Mitrovic provide possible alternatives up front. If Benitez decides to bolster the midfield at Old Trafford, Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Diame could all possibly start in more of a 4-5-1. Mikel Merino would be more likely to start than Diame if he can recover from a back injury. However, the Spaniard is thought to be struggling with his recovery.

Current Status: Slightly Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, central midfield, left wing, forwards

Southampton

Starting XI: Forster; Cedric Soares, Van Dijk, Yoshida, Bertrand; Davis, Romeu; Boufal (Ward-Prowse 90), Tadic (Long 76), Redmond; Gabbiadini (Austin 65). Subs not used: Hojbjerg, Hoedt, McQueen, McCarthy.

  • What we saw: Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino kept faith in the 4-2-3-1 formation for the home clash against Burnley, although he did choose to make some personnel changes. Nathan Redmond was recalled on the left wing, seeing Sofiane Boufal move into the No 10 role. After Wesley Hoedt came back into the side against Brighton & Hove Albion, it was Maya Yoshida who got the nod to partner Virgil van Dijk in central defence this time around. Southampton ended the match in a 4-4-2, with substitutes Shane Long and Charlie Austin combining in attack, while Boufal, who moved onto the right wing, was replaced by James Ward-Prowse late on.
  • What we learned: Goals continue to be a problem for Saints, who face a trip to Liverpool after the international break. If Mario Lemina recovers from an ankle injury, he should earn a recall in central midfield, with Steven Davis perhaps moving into a central attacking midfield position. Dusan Tadic, Boufal and Redmond could then be battling for two wide spots, while Long and Austin are set to challenge Manolo Gabbiadini to start in attack. In defence, Hoedt may come back into contention to replace Yoshida. The latter will have no issues with long-haul flights over the break, though, as Japan play their two matches in France and Belgium.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, central midfield, flanks, attacking midfield, forwards

Stoke City

Starting XI: Butland; Zouma, Shawcross, Wimmer, Pieters; Fletcher, Allen; Diouf (Berahino 86), Shaqiri, Ramadan Sobhi (Crouch 69); Choupo-Moting. Subs not used: Grant, Martins Indi, Adam, Afellay, Jese.

  • What we saw: Mark Hughes was able to name an unchanged starting XI for the home meeting against Leicester City after Ryan Shawcross shrugged off a thigh problem to start. The Potters lined up in a 3-4-2-1 formation against the Foxes, with Xherdan Shaqiri and Ramadan Sobhi stationed in narrow positions behind lone striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. When Peter Crouch was introduced, he moved to the centre, with Choupo-Moting shifting left. Hughes’ side ended the match in more of a 4-4-2, with fellow substitute Saido Berahino joining Crouch up front, while Kurt Zouma and Shaqiri combined down the right flank.
  • What we learned: With a couple of improved performances, Hughes isn’t expected to make radical changes for the Gameweek 12 trip to Brighton & Hove Albion. Bruno Martins Indi or Geoff Cameron – providing he’s available following concussion – could be options to start in central defence, perhaps at the expense of Kevin Wimmer. Cameron may also be an option at right wing-back if Hughes wants to utilise Mame Biram Diouf in attack. While he scored the equaliser from the bench, Crouch remains unlikely to start at the Amex Stadium.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Right wing-back, central defenders, lone striker

Swansea City

Starting XI: Fabianski; Naughton, Fernandez, Mawson, Clucas (Routledge 79); Ki Sung-yeung; Dyer, Fer, Carroll (Narsingh 59), Ayew (McBurnie 79); Abraham. Subs not used: van der Hoorn, Nordfeldt, Roque Mesa, Fulton.

  • What we saw: Paul Clement made one alteration for the home clash against Brighton & Hove Albion, with Nathan Dyer handed his first start of the season in place of Mike van der Hoorn. That change saw the Swans boss switch from the 3-1-4-2 formation used in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal to a 4-1-4-1 system, seeing Dyer operate on the right wing. But on the hour mark, and with his side trailing 1-0, Clement switched to a more attacking 4-2-3-1, bring Luciano Narsingh on for Tom Carroll. The substitute was stationed on the right flank, with Dyer moving to the opposite flank, seeing Jordan Ayew take up a support striker role. That became a 4-4-2, with Oliver McBurnie joining Tammy Abraham up front, while Wayne Routledge was used at right-back, seeing Kyle Naughton move across to the left.
  • What we learned: Following another disappointing result and performance, Clement could consider another formation change for the trip to Burnley after the international break. A switch back to the 3-1-4-2 may be a possibility, with van der Hoorn coming back into the side at the expense of Dyer. Should they be available, Martin Olsson, Leon Britton, Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony could all be options to start, with Sam Clucas, Leroy Fer, Carroll and Ayew perhaps the most at risk. Narsingh and Roque Mesa are others who may come into contention for starts, particularly if Clement chooses to go with a four-man defence.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, left-back/left wing-back, central midfield, flanks, forwards

Tottenham Hotspur

Starting XI: Gazzaniga; Sanchez, Dier, Vertonghen; Aurier, Sissoko, Winks (Dembele 46), Eriksen, Rose (Davies 90); Son Heung-min, Kane (Llorente 77). Subs not used: Trippier, Nkoudou, Foyth, Whiteman.

  • What we saw: Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino retained a 3-5-1-1 formation against Crystal Palace, with Son Heung-min operating behind lone striker Harry Kane. Serge Aurier and Danny Rose took over the wing-back positions, while Eric Dier moved into the three-man defence. Both Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm were injured, so Paulo Gazzaniga deputised in goal.
  • What we learned: Lloris (thigh), Toby Alderweireld and Dele Alli (both hamstring) face a race against time to be fit for the north London derby, while Harry Winks and Harry Kane will need to be assessed after pulling out of the England squad. Kane’s withdrawal is believed to be a precaution in light of his recent hamstring problem, though he did pick up a kick to the knee in Sunday’s win. Should Alderweireld be available, Dier is likely to move into midfield, where he could partner either Winks or Mousa Dembele. Alli would be in line to replace Son in perhaps more of a 3-4-2-1 if, as expected, he’s passed fit. Rotation looks set to continue in the wing-back positions, although if we believe Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies are currently the first choice options, they should get the nod. Back-ups Aurier and Rose would then likely start against Borussia Dortmund on the Tuesday, with Spurs already through to the last 16 of the Champions League.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Goalkeeper, wing-backs, central defenders, central midfield, attacking midfield

Watford

Starting XI: Gomes (Karnezis 59); Femenia, Kabasele (Mariappa 79), Britos, Holebas; Doucoure, Cleverley; Carrillo, Hughes (Okaka 90), Richarlison; Gray. Subs not used: Janmaat, Sinclair, Watson, Capoue.

  • What we saw: Marco Silva kept faith in the 4-3-3 formation for the trip to Everton, although he did decide to hand a first league start to Will Hughes in midfield. Andre Gray replaced the suspended Troy Deeney as the central striker. Silva’s first two substitutions were enforced, with Orestis Karnezis taking over from the injured Heurelho Gomes in goal, after the Brazilian suffered a head injury. Christian Kabasele was then withdrawn with a knock, seeing Adrian Mariappa take over in central defence. After falling 3-2 behind, Silva threw on Stefano Okaka in place of Hughes, seeing the Hornets finish the match in a 4-4-2.
  • What we learned: With Silva hopeful that Sebastian Prodl, Younes Kaboul and Roberto Pereyra could all be available after the international break, we could see changes for the Gameweek 12 home clash against West Ham United. The starting spots of centre-backs Kabasele and, to a lesser extent, Miguel Britos could be at risk, while Andre Carrillo’s start may be threatened by Pereyra. The Argentine could also potentially come in for Hughes, and play in a No 10 role should Silva look to switch to a more attacking 4-2-3-1. Etienne Capoue provides a possible alternative in central midfield, particularly if Silva sticks with a 4-3-3. Karnezis will be on standby to replace Gomes in goal.

Current Status: Slightly Unsettled
Risk Areas: Goalkeeper, central defenders, central midfield, right wing, attacking midfield

West Bromwich Albion

Starting XI: Foster; McAuley (Phillips 59), Hegazi, Evans; Nyom, Barry, Livermore, Krychowiak (McClean 59), Gibbs; Robson-Kanu (Rondon 59), Rodriguez. Subs not used: Myhill, Yacob, Brunt, Chadli.

  • What we saw: Despite travelling to face Huddersfield Town, Tony Pulis kept faith in the 3-1-4-2 formation he used against Manchester City. Grzegorz Krychowiak was stationed just in front of the back four, while the industry of Hal Robson-Kanu was preferred to Salomon Rondon in attack. After the sending off of Christopher Schindler, Pulis made a triple substitution, switching to a narrow 4-2-3-1, with Matt Phillips (left) and James McClean (right) flanking Jay Rodriguez in the attacking midfield trio behind lone striker Rondon.
  • What we learned: While Pulis’ negative selection didn’t bring a positive result, the fact that the Baggies host Chelsea next suggests he could stick with the same formation. Rondon could push for a recall in attack in place of Robson-Kanu, but a change in formation will be required if either of Phillips, McClean or Nacer Chadli are to return to the starting XI. A switch to a four-man defence would probably see Gareth McAuley drop to the bench.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, flanks, forwards

West Ham United

Starting XI: Hart; Reid, Kouyate, Ogbonna; Fernandes (Carroll 46), Noble (Arnautovic 61), Obiang, Lanzini, Cresswell; Ayew, Chicharito (Sakho 72). Subs not used: Adrian, Haksabanovic, Masuaku, Rice.

  • What we saw: Slaven Bilic rolled out a 3-4-2-1 system for the home clash against Liverpool, handing a recall to the fit-again Winston Reid in place of the injured Jose Fonte. Edimilson Fernandes filled in at right wing-back in the absence of the suspended Pablo Zabaleta, seeing Pedro Obiang operate in central midfield. But with his side trailing 2-0 at half-time, Bilic decided to bring on Andy Carroll for Fernandes, switching to a 4-4-2. Carroll joined Chicharito in attack, while Cheikhou Kouyate moved across to right-back. Andre Ayew and Manuel Lanzini provided the width. Lanzini then moved into central midfield when Marko Arnautovic was brought onto the left wing just after the hour mark.
  • What we learned: This morning’s appointment of David Moyes as manager indicates we can expect any number of changes when West Ham travel to Watford after the international break. Zabaleta will be available again following suspension and should return at either right-back or right wing-back. Fonte (knock) and James Collins (ankle) may both be available for the trip to Vicarage Road to provide options in central defence, perhaps allowing Kouyate to return to central midfield. Arnautovic and Michail Antonio – providing he recovers from a rib injury – offer different options out wide depending on which formation the new manager chooses, while Carroll and Diafra Sakho offer alternatives to Chicharito in attack.

    Nailing the Kane Captaincy

On the Scoutcast last week Granville was adamant that Crystal Palace at home was a poor fixture for Kane. He was, annoyingly, right.

The theory was that Palace would defend too deep.

But is there more to understanding when and when not to captain Kane at home?

Why is it that Kane was able to excel against Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool as well as earn an assist against Real Madrid at Wembley, but fail to register returns against Burnley, Crystal Palace and Swansea.

Given Spurs next home games from GWK 13 to 20 are WBA, STK, BHA and SOU what can we learn from what has happened so far to ensure that Kane owners can safely select him for the armband at Wembley?

Could the solution lie in possession data?

The teams with the lowest possession away from home this season are Burnley, Crystal Palace and Swansea. All teams Kane has failed against at Wembley. Coincidence?

Among the best teams for possession away from home are Liverpool. A team Kane excelled against. Coincidence?

If possession is key we need to pay careful attention to their next visitors.

Regarding WBA, STK, BHA - worryingly all three also have poor away possession, which could indicate that Kane is best avoided for the armband then, despite the on paper ease of the fixtures.

    Alternative captains then could include

    GWK 13 Lukaku, Aguero
    GWK 16 Morata, Salah
    GWK 17 Lukaku, Salah, Morata

Regarding SOU – they are among the best for possession away, better even than Liverpool. But do we really have to wait until Spurs play the Saints in GWK 20 at Wembley to safely captain Kane at home?

    Are there other factors?

I think with those hauls Kane as a captain is crucial....but if he can't get those in easy home games then it does indeed beg the question - why do we own him?

Yes exactly. Easy home games that's where we expect him to score a couple or hattrick . We won't captain him against Chelsea, Manchester United or City when they travel to Wembley

Because he can score wll against anybody? Arguably you want a captain who can score 2 against Liverpool...

Kun is the FPL Legend before Kane got this status. He has been doing it since quite a few years now.

Yes one brace against Arsenal and his price will rise sky high. But then what's the use if he blanks the next two ? Points over pounds. Also bringing in Kane means the balance of the team changes

Urgh reply fail. But it somewhat goes along well

Anyways, What's the use if he can score 2 against pool and fail to score against the likes of palace, Swansea?

Even kun can score against anyone

Not owning him is one way around it. I still want to stick with him and, as Jonty is suggesting, be more considered about when to hand him the armband based on the info we now have.

Is this because of spurs playing at Wembley? Because he did get a lot of hauls against teams who sit deep when they were playing at the lane.
Also, I believe that he hit the post in two games out of those three, so he could have easily got returns in them and we weren't be having Swansea and Burnely in that list.

It’s because football can be entirely random.

      Kane never score at wembley
      Kane doesn’t score without Demebele
      Kane doesn’t like weaker teams

All truisms until they’re not, humans are designed to seek patterns. It’s part of our evolutionary history.

Just give him the armband and leave it there and you’ll likely do better than people hopping around

While I completely agree with this, Kane's xG/minute is notably poorer at home, which would suggest there is is some kind of difference that's worth exploring, i.e. the difference isn't just down to random chance

This. Every game is different. People love patterns and theories but they may be applied in the exact sciences not in football. In game of football lot of things happen randomly and there is huge portion of luck there.

Is it not fair to argue that the eventual winner of fpl will not have just handed Kane the captaincy week in, week out, but will have consistently selected a captain that gets returns?

While I agree with this, the only minor gripe I have is with the last statement. You are shying away from making a decision on the captaincy in the hope that it all evens out in the end and you'll do better than those jumping around. You can't rule out players having a bad season. Look at Hazard from a couple of years ago. It's a fair strategy but I also think the one compromise you are making is giving up on gaining ground on those who are being proactive. To win overall, you will need to make those hard decisions, to jump ahead when everyone is staying put, but this kinda implies the opposite.

I still think the better strategy is owning the prime captaincy candidates and then picking the best out of them. You just have to accept the missing out the odd haul, but I think leaving the captaincy on Kane against United away when say Kun has say West Ham at home is just poor decision making, even if Kun blanks and Kane braces. Those decisions will cost you more in the long run.

Isn't it simply because they have a disjointed team due to injuries and rotation, combined with teams sitting deep they aren't creating much. With a fully fit team however a team defending deep would still get battered imo. Won't captain him until i see a fully fit spurs team

Spurs were stodgy against Palace. This is probably down to Alli being out, Son not playing in his preferred place, and two second choice full backs who weren't as switched on as Davies and Trippier have been so far this season.

Kane was clearly struggling with his knee. I don't personally think palace game was a good game to judge him on. Especially as we had played wed and out team was decimated

Kane was unlucky vs Swansea. He hit woodwork a few times against the poor sides. I don't think there is an issue.

Question is would Kane have these issues if they were playing home games at WHL this season?

I very much doubt it in which case he would probably score 40+ goals this season.

Maybe fitness or other tactical issues came into this but IMO Poch dropped a tactical clanger when he didn't pick Trippier for this game. What's the point in having the pace of Aurier and Rose when they had absolutely no space to run behind into? A deep-lying opposition need to be unpicked by crosses and Spurs didn't do this anywhere near enough. I do think that Kane would have looked a lot more dangerous if he'd had this sort of service.

been a fair bit of luck this season with Kane captaincy fails in that none of the other premium strikers (potential captains) have had many (if any) hauls in those particular GWs.

Your forgetting one key factor - fear.

I didn't captain Kane v Liverpool. I went with Lukaku away to Huddersfield and paid the price.

How stupid are we all going to feel if we don't captain Kane for those weeks and he scores a hat-trick?. In particular he does have a great scoring record vs West Brom ....

Having said that I do wonder if this knee injury may make the decision for us ....

not so sure about the possession theory. More about not converting the large number of chances they have.
Spurs have still had 116 attempts in home games - 61 in the box. The key stat there has to be the very high number of blocked shots - 43. Almost 3 times as many City, nearly double most the big scoring home sides.
A lot of set-piece opportunities not being taken either.
Maybe sides just packing the box when Spurs do have the ball. Another factor maybe they just don't have the pace on the counter some of the big sides have.

I think a lot of it is random, as was mentioned above. Also, quite often when Spurs play a weaker side at home, Pochettino - either because of injuries or, it seems, stubbornness? - consistently did not pick his strongest side. Most of the Davies rests have been at home to weaker sides for example. Son, who can offer brilliant individual moments but is not exactly a team player, has played the most in these games too.

Not sure what we can glean from this other than to hope that Pochettino picks his strongest side. I agree that Kane has been a very frustrating and unreliable captain choice though, the opposite of what you'd want from a 12m+ player.

Far too random, in that the eye test, the form, and the fixtures are not at all in agreement for many of those blanks/hauls over such a small sample size. He was also a donkey at times last year until he wasn't -- so was Zlatan, so was Aguero -- with many people conveniently using his pillaging of teams on the beach at the end of the year to repress his coal in the stockings around the holidays. I just don't think we will have the likes of peak Suarez or RVP or Lampard in 2009-10 (check him out, immense!), so captaincy is therefore a much riskier proposition.

The bigger question for all of these Hot Topics is how to deal with unpredictability from luxury players -- perma captaining is a fine solution but it needs to be permanent. Just tattoo the armband and you will get around 60-70 points so far from these guys -- you can look it up in the FPL points tab, they are incredibly close. As soon as you move the armband from one premium to another in the hopes of 80-90 points over a stretch of eleven matches, you open up exposure to hitting them on their blanks and not their hauls.

Just been through my captains for the season so far:

        GW 1 - Lukaku - 26
        GW 2 - Lukaku - 12
        GW 3 - Kane - 4
        GW 4 - Morata - 12
        GW 5 - Kane - 4
        GW 6 - Morata - 34
        GW 7 - Kane - 26
        GW 8 - Kane - 4
        GW 9 - Aguero - 14
        GW 10 - Salah - 8
        GW 11 - Kane - 4

5 times I have given him the armband and he has returned once.

Literally every other captain I've had other than Kane has returned points.

This is exactly why Kane (c) issues are so important.

I only got his home game v Liverpool by accident through VC rule. Certainly wary of captaining him at home now when there are other options.

The main factor is that Poch and Spurs will figure out how to play teams who come only to defend - then all theories about teams having little possession will go to pot... Arsenal had to do the same back when they were good as Man U under Fergie had to figure it out (and did).

I don't mean to imply they WILL, a factor is IF spurs figure out a way around it.. then we'll end up with a lot of egg on face and casuals will say "you really didn't captain Kane against such a rubbish team when spurs were playing at home?"

The biggest issue is actually mustering up the courage to forgo kane as captain in these easy fixtures through fear of getting punished, however everything youve said makes a lot of sense in theory

      Hi guys!

Thought it would be nice to find out how everyone is faring in comparison to their target for the season!

So, how close are we all to what we set ourselves, and are our targets realistically in reach?

I set myself the target of my first 10k, and am sat at 18k, so I’m super pleased currently!

As with all seasons I want to be able to get into the top 10K by Jan/Feb... that gives enough time to push on even higher.

Win all my cash mini-leagues as well.

Currently 68K and leading one of three cash leagues.

Extra target though this season is not to be 1.8m at Christmas like last year. Could still happen.

          Nice!

I’ve never been anywhere near the top 10k before, so I’ll probs panic mid-way through the season, and crash and burn like Arsenal always used to!

The cash leagues are the big one haha! Currently top of the work one, and second in Demi’s cash league... Could prove quite lucrative!

P.s. Sorry the articles have dried up btw- my studies started up again, and I haven’t been able to find the time to write anything....

That's pretty decent for this stage of the season. As the season progresses those green arrows become easier as managers drop off and forget to check the teams/the lucky casuals drop off. I'm about 150k right now and pretty happy with that, topping a number of my MLs.

Broke into the top million for the first time (740,000) so hoping to carry on with my smooth season; where progress has been gradual.

Last season was so disastrous until the last few months where I went up about 1.3 million places that I'm fairly chilled about this year.

Targets for me in ML terms this season were: to win one of my regular cash mini leagues/cups (got a string of seconds and thirds but never won one!) and to defend my LMS title (with friends, not the TM one!) from last season.

On a more general sense, just to record a new personal best OR finish (so better than 70k) basically. To that end I would also like to be in the top 300k or so by xmas, I always seem to have a poor start and leave myself a lot to do in the second half of the season.

So far, I'm still in the LMS, and within the top 500k, so its been a decent start overall. I'm near the top of most of my minileagues too so would have to say I'm on target so far.

Aiming for 4th consecutive 10k finish, and whilst I'm not too happy with my current position, I still feel this is achievable. Probably. Hopefully. Maybe.

Target was to finish in the Top 5k after just missing out last year.
Loitering around 1.9m currently but what gives me hope is I was above 1m at the halfway point last season yet managed to finish in the Top 10k (my first ever) and win the ML in which I was over a 100 points behind as well.

Hopefully, I start getting greens after the WC I use over the IB.

I want a top 50k finish. Was at 6k earlier on but dropped back to 219k now. Not too worried as last season was at 1.6m at Xmas but got back to 109k at the end.

Generally I start slow and around 1mn mark at this time and end up finishing around 10k
Just once I was around 500k mark in first 10-11gws and ended up some 1400 overall
Strong finish possibly due to DGWs and patience
So hoping good season where stats normalize eventually

normally top1% is the target (keen casual). top 10k a bonus achieved 3 out of last 6 seasons.
Normally get there by slowly progressing through the season.

This year best ever start (excellent GW1 & 3) has me at 3k (all chips intact).
So it looks like a defensive effort from here on in to try and stay in top 10k. Probably not as exciting as previous seasons - defending rather than attacking

Target for end of the season was top 1k. I finished just outside 2000th last year so it seemed like a natural target.

However, I'm now ranked just outside the top 1 million, so will have to revise that! 😆

The target was 100k or atleast beat my last year's rank (238k)
And now I'm sitting at 4k. I seriously don't know how. I guess it's the no hits strategy working for me. So if only I can somehow continue to hover around 10k after all the Christmas rotation, I might get my first top 10k finish!

PS: Found this site around the same time last year & it's definitely helped a lot. From 2m to 238k. You guys do a great job!

Was hoping for top 10k or least to beat my best finish of 77k. Ideally I wanted to try to get close the top 2.3k finish my daughter got last year.

First 9 weeks I averaged just over 57 points a week but 2 bad weeks have dropped me from just inside 400k to just inside 800k.

Wildcarded early to get a balanced team and then ripped it up chasing 3 premium strikers.

Haven't picked the right captain since week 2.

Too scared to look at current rank. 1.3m last time out. Really thought I could crack 100k this year after a decade of seasons behind me. Had a horrible season last year, having been murdered by Sanchez away at West Ham then chasing risks to recover. I'm actually being too risk averse this season...Kane (c) every home match. My mistake was not going with Salah from week 1. Took me ages to get him in (he immediately missed a penalty) without hits. I'm going to persevere in super dullard mode, as my mini league has relegation, and I'm happy to survive mid table in the Prem, rather than take risks and go down. I find the lows of FPL are getting increasingly harder to take...

Problem in the past has been staying active throughout whole season. This is not a problem anymore now I have a two year old son and Im up at 5:30am most mornings... Therefore I have lots of time on my hand to play the game.
It is no coincidence that my best finish (3k) came two seasons ago 🙂

I never set a target, except to score as may points as I can.

Currently a very lowly 550k - last seasons 365th was always gonna be hard to follow.

If I finish outside the top 6k I will be very disappointed, as I have only done this once (2nd season) in my 8 years of FPL. I think it's gonna be tough to make it this season now.

To me that says Kun is a more reliable captain than Kane, but Kane is still Kane, his price will sky rocket yet again when he gets his next brace or hat trick and despite having this debate we'll want him back. He isn't leaving my side but think I'll be going (K)un captain for the next couple at least.

Kun is the FPL Legend before Kane got this status. He has been doing it since quite a few years now.

Yes one brace against Arsenal and his price will rise sky high. But then what's the use if he blanks the next two ? Points over pounds. Also bringing in Kane means the balance of the team changes

I don't think he'll blank next 2, could see him scoring vs Arsenal, blanking vs WBA and then getting a haul in the two away fixtures. kane will likely finish highest scoring forward, the issue is working out when those goals will come

Only advantage of having kane is we can put armband on him without 2nd thoughts, whether he returns or not is different story. Aguero might end up with 1pointer plus havent done anything special since returning from injury...

If I can somehow find a captaincy rotation where kane isnt required, then going to drop him, just like I dropped Luka.

      Elliot, Speroni
      Jones, Daniels, Mee, Moreno, 3.9
      Sane, Salah, Sterling, Zaha, Richarlison
      Kane, Lukaku, Murray

Worth downgrading Murray -> Niasse to upgrade either of these?

Definitely Speroni > Pope and get a playing defender for the Xmas period.

I'm stuck with a £3.9m and already been caught out having to field 10.

I'm stuck with who to get for Ben Davies. Got 1m ITB

      a) Azpi (means also doing Ritchie out for GroB).

      b) Daniels (means freeing up cash and doing Richie out for Richarl, plus money over for elsewhere).

Pros and cons to both. Azpi could be an absolute gem to own over the Christmas period (captain, fixtures etc). Daniels is cheaper.

      THoughts?

Help me out here gents ....

      A) Foster, Schindler >> Pope, Duffy (-4pts), resulting in:

      Pope, Elliot
      Jones, Duffy, Ward, Otamendi, Mbemba
      Eriksen, Salah, Silva, RLC, Carroll
      Kane, Jesus, Firmino
      (I would play 3-4-3)

      OR

      B) Play the Free Hit chip and have (something like) this for 1 GW:

      DDG, Elliot
      Azpi, Duffy, Daniels, Ward, 4.0
      Salah, Richarlison, Fernandinho, Gros, RLC

Ultimately comes down to Azpi and Sterling versus Gross and Kun. Just think Chelsea's fixtures are too good to turn down and I have a bit more flexibility as keeping a core 4 man midfield.

      Pope / Elliot
      Jones / Daniels / Mee / Dunk / Moreno
      Sane / Salah / Richarlison / Gross / RLC
      Kane / Kun / Morata

I can downgrade any of the front three if i need to fund more in defence or midfield down the track.

Well, it just seems perfect to me.

Other option would be to get Lukaku instead of Kun (more nailed on for mins and nice fixtures despite poor form), maybe. Or downgrade Kun (but to who?) to afford Azpilicueta (for Moreno).

If you downgrade Kun, and go for Murray for instance, you could upgrade Moreno to Azpi and upgrade Gross or RLC. Not saying it would be better than the team above tho, I dunno.

        Really really good team anyway

I can't decide if Davies is keepable or not...

Tottenham's fixtures are very good after the NLD, and when he does play he is clearly one of the best picks on the game...also I can't really see him coming on as a late sub every time he doesn't start (injuries meant the normal Spurs subs were already on the pitch against CPL).

Like many said in the lead up to the Palace game, Davies had played a few games in quick succession so maybe it was just a 'rest' rather than a 'rotation'!?

      Anyone keeping?

Not playing enough good fixtures to make it worth it, City assets is risk/reward as they are among the highest scoring players. Davies is just unnecessary risk given it seems he'll be playing the tough fixtures.

7th highest scoring defender even though he has missed 4 games (missed at least two of them through injury/illness, not rotation) - like you allude to, he could just be the defensive version of City midfielders..

I understand it, but just not for a hit.
            So is Pogba returning?
If so, would you do Lowe and Eriksen to Jones and Pogba for free?

      .8 ITB

      Ddg - elliot
      Jones-Moreno-Stones-Mee-Azpi
      Sterling-eriksen-Salah-Gross-RLC
      Morata-Lukaku-Quaner

Dont need the United double up. Downgrade DDG and upgrade Quaner.

Upgrade quaner for what reason? I am never gonna need the 3rd sub

United will keep 3 Cs in next 3 🙂

I prefer having 3 playing subs (or at least likely to start e.g. Niasse), gives more options for who to play etc but that's just a personal preference. You could use that ITB to get Niasse/DCL as Quaner - they're more likely to get points than Quaner for not much more money

              Yeah I can do that.
I like niasse . He is also .1 cheaper than DCL

Not willing to take a hit for a defender, so will be phased. Luis first? I can afford Azp but will likely take a cheaper Bournemouth/swansea etc option.

Played my WC a few GWs ago and chose Zaha and Atsu over Richarlison and Gross. Huge mistake that I admit especially that I can't get them now because of funds.
Would you do now for free Zaha to Richarlison or wait a few weeks ?

In a few weeks Richarlison will have tougher fixtures; take advantage now.
