This weekend sees the conclusion of the Norwegian top flight campaign and the end to the very first Eliteserien Fantasy season.

There may be a post season article once we have absorbed some final thoughts, but for now let’s look ahead to the final weekend of fixtures as Fantasy managers look to grab points for mini-league placings and other contests.

Being the final game of the season, motivation is a big factor, so we’ll pay some extra attention to that. Also, a reminder that these are all 18:00 CET starts. Given that lineups have a tendency to show up before the deadline, eager managers may have the chance to put in place some eleventh hour changes.

MOTIVATED OR DESPERATE?

There is just a small quota of  games where teams have something meaningful to play for.

Aalesund – Strømsgodset

A home team with their backs to the wall  against an away team on a hot streak and running for Europe. This matchup has all the hallmarks of a good oldfashioned streetfight, so I’m halfway expecting cards and tackles to fly for this matchup.

The best Aalesund can hope for is to retain 14th spot and earn a relegation play off match but they are in danger of being automatically jettisoned from the top flight should 15th placed Sogndal, who are level on points, win or draw their match with Vålerenga . With three out of four of Aalesund’s starting defenders out for this clash they will almost certainly be relying on Sogndal slipping up, especially as fourth placed Strømsgodset’s form is immense.

If, as expected, Stromsgodset prevail then they could move into a European qualification place, especially if second placed Molde beat third placed Sarpsborg.

I’ll be looking to Strømsgodset’s magic duo of Jradi and Ulland Andersen scoring double-digits in this one.

Molde – Sarpsborg 08

As mentioned both these teams are in the fight for medals and looking to cling onto their European qualification places with  one eye on Stromsgodset’s result. Sarpsborg do also have a Cup final as a second chance though, and may well have a bit more spring in their step with that security blanket.

This looks a very hard game to predict the game, with Sarpsborg’s  Krepin Diatta looking a strong bet for returns.

Sogndal – Vålerenga

Sogndal are fighting for their Eliteserien survival and will need to do well and hope Aalesund slip up to move up into the relegation qualifier spot.

Given that the battle to retain top flight status could even come down to goals scored, Koomson  looks a strong prospect. Vålerenga with nothing more to play for this season, and some hard blows on transfers already, may just let Sogndal in the door here.

Any other interests?

Oh yes, the hunt is on for the top-goalscorer title.

Rosenborg’s Nicklas Bendtner has pulled ahead at 19 goals, and has stated he is eager to pass 20, making his spot in any managers team obvious as they face Odd away from home.

Chasing him is Omoijuanfo (Ohi), who is on 17 goals and must surely be disappointed to have missed a penalty in the previous round.  He does have the final game against minions Viking away to make amends and a late surge for the golden boot –  so there is smart money in putting both him and Bendtner up top in your team for the final week.

Also worth keeping an eye out for exciting prospects on benches out there who may get a final salute. Some posibilities to look for in the minutes before deadline are:

Jonathan Levi (Rosenborg, Midfielder, 5.8) – Hailed as the next Helland when he was signed this summer, he now looks to be in-line for a starting spot on the Rosenborg right wing, and has already shown some razzle and dazzle in his game. Due for his first top-flight goal, he could be a big man to punt on in the final Gameweek.

Kristoffer Velde (Haugesund, Midfielder, 4.5) – He’s had some scattered minutes of play this season and has picked up two assists for the first team so far. With 10 goals for the second team this 18 year old looks primed to impress  for his home outing against Kristiansand.

For the rest of the games, the season is over and you can look out for some gung-ho football with no worries, probably a couple of new faces and care-less attitudes, but it’s anybody’s guess what will happen in them.

And finally, a question of feedback from fellow FFS managers, leave in the comments some words on one, some or all of the following points if you could:

– Players that lived up to their hype

– Players that fell flat

– Surprises this season

– Your thoughts on the game (what works, what sucks, what chips do you hope for)?

Probable Aalesund defensive line this weekend:
Adam Arnason - Vebjørn Hoff - Bjørn Helge Riise - Jørgen Hatlehol

    This could get ugly...

Does this suggest captaining Andersen / Jradi? Or do we stick with Bendtner as he looks to seal the golden boot?

Thats a really good question.... I'm considering an Andersen cap, but I think both choices will pay off, and a question of what one will pay more....

Thanks for this Mrklin and Niemi. Both of you have done an excellent job in helping me play this game as comfortably as possible. I have to say that initially it was great to play but somehow lost track from the middle but it was always going to be the case. I had a good time playing it but I don't think I'll play it again. A big thank you for all your efforts.

I was missing fpl during June and July. This game was a good way to fill the gap for a while. With a lot of players and teams being less consistent than in the PL, I felt everybody was struggling a bit. It made it easy to take more risks and have a laugh 🙂 Missing proper sites for analysis and advise and debate though..

Agree that Brann, FKH and Molde have The best clean sheet chances this week?

Thanks a lot to allof you who have contributedthos season!!

Home advantage is definitely a thing but I'd be hesitant playing defenders against the in-form Tromsø and Kristiansund attacks.

Molde vs. Sarpsborg is a 2nd place battle and Sarpsborg will be under pressure to get something because if they lose they could drop to 4th.

I'd back Rosenborg for a clean sheet at Odd. It's all up in the air this week.

Think I want to put Strømsgodset down on that list, Aalesund have their backs to the wall, but they are so damaged just now I don't see them bringing anything big to the game at all.

    2. Niemi

Brann are without captain Wormgoor and will start a teenage keeper.

Haugesund haven't been in form lately, but Tromsø have. Can't rule out a FKH clean sheet at home though, Tromsø are safe now.

Bookmakers actually favours a Sogndal CS this week. SIF also lower than the three you mentioned. I'd say there are no certain CS this week, but Brann, FKH and Molde surely among those with the best chance.

      1. MTPockets
        8 years, 8 months ago

Yeah this. Implies best shout is Sogndal, but still only 36% chance, according to william hill

        Sogndal 9/5
        Strømsgodset 15/8
        Brann 21/10
        Haugesund 11/5
        Molde 11/5
        Stabæk 23/10
        Sandefjord 23/10
        Rosenborg 16/5
        Sarpsborg 08 10/3
        Lillestrøm 10/3
        Kristiansund 7/2
        Viking 15/4
        Tromsø 15/4
        Odd 19/5
        Aalesund 9/2
        Vålerenga 9/2

    – Players that lived up to their hype
Bendtner, he started slowly but this must be the only season in his career where he has lived up to his potential.
    Ohi at 6.5
    – Players that fell flat
    Me.
    Bakenga. I had him as K GW1
    – Surprises this season
In a league that surprises every week nothing is really out standing as surprising.
    – Your thoughts on the game (what works, what sucks, what chips do you hope for)?
An enjoyable game now I know some of the players and teams. It is full of surprises though , throwing up some interesting results.
The flagging is appalling but that only helps the managers who have time to look at information in forums and other web sites.
interesting with the chips. I vote for staying as we are as it makes it better for H2H and cup with the only chip you are likely to face is a wild card. The result then comes down to picking the best players and K on the day.

Thanks for the articles and posts on here over the season. Good luck to all for the last GW.

    Lived up to the hype:
Bendtner the most hyped and he'll probably finish as top scorer and top fantasy player, can't ask for more than that. Diatta came out of nowhere and I put him in my team purely because of the buzz around him and he's done great.

    Fell flat:
Odd players. Ruud not worth the money and luckily I avoided their midfield and attack all season. Whisper it but Rosenborg midfielders have been a bit expensive, even Adegbenro hasn't delivered as much since his move. Think I had Moa Abdellaoue at the start.

    Surprises:
Lots but I don't think Ohi was in many teams before GW1, thankfully I've survived without him up to GW29. Wangberg's goal threat. Gjertsen the pocket rocket is apparently still a surprise given his ownership.

    The game:
Chips will probably be detrimental to the game, there probably aren't enough GWs for them to work. Better flagging is a must. Have loved the live updates, especially the last few weeks we're I've been doing well. 50/50 on the bonus points 'system', it's a nice throwback and a reminder that while algorithms are fairer, sometimes they aren't.

Ohi actually was in many teams before the season, there was some hype around him. He was one of the better cheap picks. I did go with Shuaibu myself as he was cheaper and I don't think anyone expected Ohi to be THAT good.

Wait for the lineups. IMO Andersen would have been the obvious one if you had room for him. I would be tempted to do Helland>Levi if he starts. He looked keen to impress against Viking and did fairly well. He did play against Real Sociedad midweek too, so could be benched here.

Watch out for rotation the last round. Brann will give a teenage keeper a start over Leciejewski. He surely won't be the only one!

Wormgoor also suspended and Nouri not starting, so I don't think getting a Brann defender is the best idea against an inform Tromsø side.

  15. Niemi

Players that lived up to their hype: Ohi, Diatta (after half a season), Bendtner (after half a season), Hedenstad, Sigurdarson, Adegbenro

Players that fell flat: Jensen, Nordkvelle, Helland (because of the injuries), Moa Abdellaoue, Ruud

Surprises this season: Stokke, Gjertsen, Zachariassen, Jradi, Rolantsson, Seck, Braaten (first half of the season)

    Your thoughts on the game:

I kind of like the experts giving bonus points,
players like Diatta and Adegbenro have given me three bonus after great matches where they haven't been involved in goals. There have been some weird decisions though.

They really need to up their game with the flagging. Either they have to be on point or just stop flagging at all. Maybe less aggressive price rises/falls and more accurate price, as you can pretty much have all the top players in every position. I do understand that it's hard to price the players though, so many high priced players underperformed and many low priced players stepped up big time. Still, I think they have to bump prices up a bit.

Tired of players getting wrong assists too. Happened so many times over the season. They always fix it after a day or two, but it's so amateurish. They always blame OPTA, but surely there's a better way.

Give us bench boost and triple captain. Not sure what the last chip should be (if we get three), not sold on either AOA or free hit.

    1. Niemi
      • 12 Years

.. and they should either have the deadline 1h15m before the game or instruct the clubs to put out the lineups one hour before. I really like seeing some of the lineups before deadline, but IMO you shouldn't be able to do so in a game like this.

        8 years, 8 months ago

Preferred Valerenga's fixture to Tromso's, although your points about Brann's defence making me wonder again.

        Kwarasey
        Hedenstad, Vilsvik, Stolas
        Adegbenro, Diatta, Andersen, Ejuke
        Ohi, Mortensen, Bendtner

        (Rossbach, Asen, Andreassen, Tollas)

        1. Niemi
          • 12 Years
          8 years, 8 months ago

Team looks good. Toss up between Ejuke and Åsen, I agree. Prefer Åsen on recent form, but better fixture for Ejuke. Do remember Sogndal have everything to play for. They are have the same amount of point and goal difference as Aalesund, but have scored one less goal. One of them will be relegated. Could go either way I guess, but Sogndal will surely be motivated.

Mortensen>Pedersen could be a punt if you have enough cash as well, or just get Jradi in for either one of Ejuke or Åsen. That's what I would have done, assuming all other player starts.

          1. MTPockets
            8 years, 8 months ago

My thinking was Sogndal have to go out for a win rather than draw, so while not keen to play Tollas think it could be more open for Ejuke.

Bet365 - thanks for that. Looks like Ejuke best for goal potential of the 4, but that doesn't factor in assists which Asen and others benefit from more.

I'll stick with Mortensen. Pedersen has form but, like Mortensen, don't think he ever gets more than 1 goal or assist (cue a hatrick).

Tempted to go for Gjertsen over Jradi, but the latter's ownership mean he probably makes more sense. Therefore Asen to Jradi and Ejuke first on bench, subject to lineups.

              • 12 Years

I don't trust those odds though. Ejuke have had really low odds even when he wasn't starting, while players like Jradi always seems to have too high goalscoring odds (compared to others).

Not as accurate as PL goalscoring odds IMO

                Ejuke 4.50
                Åsen 5.50

Regarding Haugesund a near full stadium is expected, as this is the last match of club legend Tor Arne Andreassen. Reduced entrance fees, Andreassen t-shirts made for the occasion, and more. As a result I expect a top motivated home side here. Also, I am pretty sure he would take a penalty kick today should FKH be awarded one. I expect a few goals in this match, and a home win.

Apparently Ulland Andersen have arrived at the player hotel in Aalesund, so he might be playing after all!

Someone with inside knowledge claiming he's starting, but they're not sure if he'll last more than 60 minutes. I'd say keep if you own him, but don't captain.

Reminds me of when I played Alessandro Nesta up front on his last game in FIFA.

Is Andersen starting. Official site only has 10 players, and him on bench?
