A busy December rolls on as we brace ourselves for the second of seven Gameweeks across the calendar month.

We turn our attention to the armband conundrum next, first assessing the main captaincy contenders for Gameweek 16, before checking in on the Opta data and offering up a differential or two to consider ahead of tomorrow’s 11.30am deadline.

The Captain Poll

There’s a two-way tussle for our attentions at the top of Gameweek 16’s Captain Poll.

A Wembley Stadium encounter with Stoke City’s porous defence earns Harry Kane the slight advantage at the summit, with 31% backing.

Rested from midweek Champions League duties, the Spurs frontman boasts a fine record against Mark Hughes’ men, scoring six times in his last three encounters – including a hat-trick and assist in a 4-0 win at White Hart Lane last term.

Yet Kane’s toils at Spurs’ temporary home remains a big concern – he’s blanked five times and managed just one double-figure haul in seven in front of his own fans.

Eden Hazard has vied with Kane all week, earning over 26% of the votes cast as Chelsea make their way to West Ham – the only side to have conceded more goals (32 to 30) than the Potters this season.

The Belgian played from start to finish against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, but looks set to be unleashed from the start against the ailing Hammers.

Five goals and two assists in his last five league starts makes for persuasive reading, with just 6% willing to back his team-mate Alvaro Morata, who has three goals and an assist over his last five by comparison.

It’s somewhat surprising that just 13% are prepared to back Mohamed Salah for a Merseyside derby encounter with Everton.

Granted, the Toffees arrive at Anfield on the back of consecutive clean sheets, yet, just like Hazard, the Liverpool winger has bagged three sets of double-figures in five.

The top scoring player in FPL, Salah has scored or assisted in five of six starts on home turf and faces a defence that’s shipped 28 goals so far.

Team-mate Philippe Coutinho (3%) looks an intriguing armband differential. The Brazilian’s 18-point return at Brighton last Saturday was his fourth double-digit tally in just eight league outings.

Furthermore, Coutinho’s first of three midweek goals against Spartak Moscow was converted from the spot, which suggests that he is now the Reds’ latest designated penalty taker.

Roberto Firmino (1%) is even lower down the Poll, despite producing five goals and two assists in his last four in all competitions.

Arsenal trio Alexis Sanchez, Alexandre Lacazette and Aaron Ramsey travel to a Southampton outfit with a single clean sheet in ten Gameweeks.

The Chilean has netted in three of the last four Gameweeks, while Lacazette seems to have upped his attacking threat recently, supplying points against Man City, Spurs and Man United in the previous five.

Meanwhile, Ramsey continues to deliver points on a consistent basis – over the last seven Gameweeks, he’s supplied six sets of attacking returns and a pair of double-figure tallies.

The Manchester derby tempers our enthusiasm for both sides’ key players, though Man City pair Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling take strong form to Old Trafford, with three goals and two assists apiece over the last six Gameweeks.

Elsewhere, Watford’s Richarlison has been excellent on the road ahead of a trip to Burnley, with a goal or assist in all but one of his seven away appearances.

    Current team:

    Pope (Elliot)
    Alonso Walker Gomez (Kenny, Dunk)
    Sterling Salah Coutinho RLC (Chopu)
    Kane Agüero DCL

    No Chelsea attack burnt me last round. City could trash Utd though after the display vs. Arsenal. Agüero needs to go to get Haz/Morata.

    Still wondering, are any of these worth a hit?

    A) Aguero -> Kane (c)

    B) Richarlison/Sterling -> Coutinho

    C) RLC -> Ramsey

    after thought and deliberation, C is the only one that still appeals

    Could do with some guru advice:

    Foster Elliot
    Jones Vert Naughton
    Sane Pogba Salah RLC Richarlison
    Kane Morata Wilson

    I have options because I have £1.3m ITB and 2FT. Open to taking a hit and changing three... would like Hazard to come in.

    Other than Pogba, who are the two players I most need to rid myself of?

    I need some advice. I made a couple of rash decisions earlier in the week that seem to have backfired.

    Firstly I transferred out Dann (4.7) for Zeegelar (4.4) - that trade I'm still ok with although when I initially made it it appeared that Dann had been dropped, now its possible he wasnt playing because of injury.

    Then on Sunday I traded Richarlison and Gross for Countinho and Hughes for -8. At the time Hughes was at flagged as 25% and due back next week.

    My theory was that Countinho (top of the PPM) would easily outscore Gross, and Hughes (higher PPM than Richarlison) would not match Richarlison but the combination of the two would out score the two that I was dropping. In addition the differentials of Coutinho and Hughes would help me climb my ML as most of those above me already have Richarlison. The trade price of Richarlison was 6.4 whereas his current price is 6.6, so if I want to get him back its going to cost 0.2 more.

    Now Hughes has been declared out for 6 games, that's 6 lovely fixtures where I wanted Watford representation. So now the effect of my trade is: -8 for Coutinho and a dud, which more than likely will not outscore Richarlison and Gross.

    How do I undo this mess ?
    - I could play the free hit chip, load up with some players with good fixtures and then get my original team back for next week. But that free hit chip is valuable, is it really worth using as a Mulligan
    - or I could suck it up and then next week bring in RLC instead of Hughes, but not having Watford representation is surely going to disadvantage me.

    What should I do ?

        My formation isn't really fixed, so there isnt really a sub for Hughes. I have 8 outfield starters and then choose 2 from 5 for the remaining 2 slots. Right now with Hughes out and Niasse not playing, I have to choose 2 from Dunk, Zeegalar and Murray.

        Courtois (Elliot)
        Jones, Otamendi, Alonso (Dunk, Zeegelar)
        Hazard, Coutinho, Salah, Sterling (Hughes)
        Kane (Murray, Niasse)

    With these rumours about weather, missed trainings and potential injuries flying around, perhaps best just to do nothing?

    Speroni
    Azpi | Dunk | Mee*
    Haz | Salah | Sane | Richarlison | RLC
    Kane | Morata

    Bench: Hennessey; Niasse, Kenny, Moreno**

    1 FT, 0 itb.

    A) Save FT
    B) Moreno -> Femenia
    C) Moreno + Sane -> Kabasele/Zeegelaar + Coutinho (-4)

      B as Moreno is definitely out

        Cheers 🙂 It would mean I wouldn’t subsequently be able to afford Sane to Coutinho without a further downgrade from somewhere, but Femenia is my preferred Watford option.

    If you could only have one this week, would it be Kane or Hazard?

      Hazard

      I sold Kane this week & purchased Hazard for a -4 hit so my answer is Hazard.
      Poor disallusioned souls keeping Kane.

    Is Christensen the best replacement for Moreno?

      No, but he's not bad. Budget?

        6.1mil. Would like to have some money left to move on Daniels and Mustafi (if he's still injured) next week.

        Is Gomez a good replacement for Moreno? Or too prone to rotation?

      If you're after a cs it seems only Chelsea, Spurs or maybe Liverpool are the defenders to go for so I would say yes to Christensen.

      Kane despite Hazard's amazing form for me because:

      a) potential Morata news
      b) watching West Ham and Adrian defend well at City
      c) London derby could be tougher than it looks on paper
      d) Stoke lost 7-2 to City, 4-0 to Chelsea and 3-0 to Liverpool, they can collapse
      e) Kane 6 goals in last 3 vs Stoke

    4. Giles G

      Kane because I feel like he owes me a captain hatrick

      Hazard.
      In form
      Extra point a goal
      Clean sheet point
      Baps magnet
      More consistent atm
