Crystal Palace make it seven matches unbeaten to derail a surge in interest in Leicester City assets.

It took Palace 18 Gameweeks to do it, but they finally scored away from home, and then promptly added two more in a convincing 3-0 win at Leicester City.

The opener went to Christian Benteke – his first goal of the season as well – as the Belgian went some way to repaying the debt for his costly penalty miss against Bournemouth in Gameweek 16.

He also provided an assist and was handed maximum bonus for an 11-point haul. But those points are unlikely to spark any real interest.

Because while he’s been struggling to score, he’s had no such problems picking up yellow cards, and his fifth caution of the season today means he’ll miss next Saturday’s trip to Swansea City.

Palace then have home matches with Arsenal and Man City before the end of the year, which doesn’t exactly encourage investment in either Benteke or, indeed, any other Eagles assets.

Andros Townsend set up the Belgian’s goal, but if there is one Palace player worth considering, it’s Wilfried Zaha.

The midfielder scored his fourth goal of the season and, together with two assists, now has returns from his last three Gameweeks.

He started the season in more than a million FPL squads, but is down to just over a quarter of that now, despite producing either a goal or an assist in seven of his last 11 Gameweeks.

Palace have been revitalised under Roy Hodgson and Zaha’s form and 6.9 price tag make him a viable option to threaten the status of Watford’s Richarlison as the template fourth midfielder.

Some 7.8% of managers have Ruben Loftus-Cheek (4.6) as their fifth midfield option and he set up Palace’s final goal for Bakary Sako, who came on to score late for the second consecutive Gameweek. Sako a – 4.9 midfielder – will likely lead the attack in Benteke’s absence at Swansea.

Unfortunately, close to 50% of Loftus-Cheek’s owners benched him for the Leicester match, while 81% of FPL managers with Julian Speroni in their squads demonstrated the same lack of faith as the goalkeeper delivered back-to-back away clean sheets.

Foxes fluff their lines

In a season dominated by midfield points-scorers, forcing a way into our squads alongside Mohamed Salah and what feels like half the Man City side is no easy task.

But that was exactly what Riyad Mahrez was threatening to do, his problematic 8.6 price tag increasingly offset by a rush of form that had produced three goals and an assist ahead of today’s clash with Palace.

His ownership topped the half a million mark for the first time this season going into the match, only for the Algerian to put in a muted display in which he managed just one shot and created a single chance.

After four straight victories, Mahrez was one of three Leicester players in the top six most bought for Gameweek 18 and he wasn’t alone in disappointing.

Shinji Okazaki’s 16-point display in midweek was good enough only for a spot on the bench today, his 13-minute cameo a major source of frustration to his 133,000+ new owners.

And Jamie Vardy was purchased by 122,000 despite a run of only one goal in seven Gameweeks. That barren spell has now been extended by another match and Leicester’s schedule (MUN wat liv HUD che WAT) is a decidedly mixed bag from which to turn things around. The striker is already the fourth most sold player ahead of Gameweek 19.

The Foxes’ defence is equally unproductive – just one clean sheet in eight matches now – as the 64,602 managers who made Harry Maguire the third most popular backline buy of Gameweek 18 were left disappointed.

The centre-back’s four assists so far this season have helped paper over Leicester’s defensive cracks, but a visit from Man United and trips to Liverpool and Chelsea don’t look like fixtures that suggest an upturn in defensive form is on its way.

Meanwhile, midfielder Wilfred Ndidi saw red for two bookable offences, but will serve his ban in the midweek EFL Cup quarter-final tie against Man City.

    Rubbish gameweek so far?
Me 17 from 6. Hoping for 45 plus after tomorrow.

Made transfers already for next week. I know risky but am going to be priced out.

Worst season out of 10 so far. Still it's just a game and time for Xmas and the 4 quick gameweeks. We go again.

1 million to 100k can be done!

I think we should have the downvote button returned. There are so many posts asking if a transfer is a good move, and personally, I'd be happier clicking a downvote button than constructing a measured response to each one.

I know it was abused last time around, but that will only be a short term thing (and can be quite entertaining if taken in the right spirit). I think more posts would be responded to.

Nothing at all. I'm saying there's so many that I end up not replying to most. If I could scan through and up vote or downvote a proposed transfer, it would be easily than saying, "I don't think you should do that because x,y and z".

Ah, cleared it up. If we're going to have a downvote button I think this would be a far better use of it. Got to bear the clientele in mind though - I would still expect it to be fully abused. Maybe the ability to add polls as part of a post?

Thinking this too. Are we downvoting to suggest a transfer's a bad move or actually suggesting people shouldn't be seeking advice regarding transfers?

no, no, we'd be downvoting the idea of the transfer. The forum is all about asking if a move is a good idea!

You could even phrase the question as, "Vote on whether Coutinho > Sterling for free is worth it?". I'd go as far as saying people could then search on the most opinions (votes) given to a transfer move.

Knew I had to be missing something. I think it's a great idea but would personally just format it slightly differently, as above. Going to +1 it in the hope it'll gain Mark's attention as I think it's in his best interest.

Saavy idea, I hope Mark reads this. Maybe also have a separate area on ffs for questions on moves where there is a down vote button in place rather than allowing a down vote button to exist in the comment section in articles. Would be less chance of abuse in that case.

The more I think about it, the better the idea is. Think of the number of people scanning through pages of posts and selecting one that they feel strongly about to reply too. All the others are skimmed past and ignored.

In fact, I see the up vote used more when something funny or clever is posted rather than to approve the OP's suggestion.

Heavy down voting when someone isn't even asking for an opinion or feedback should be investigated by Mods. They can easily set up an alert when a post has > 10 downvotes, for example, and check the facility is not being abused.

You're asking a forum for their opinion on a transfer, let's say. Why would you take a down vote personally? If you're posting the question then you're not 100% about it yourself, so it gives others the ability to quickly let you know if they disagree.

So many posts get unanswered and are re-posted.

        Agree.

Losing two clean sheets on the bounce for Kolasinac and Ward has been a bitter pill to swallow, but can’t predict it.

          • 12 Years

The Kola dropping was predictable as it was even mentioned here before the West Ham game that Wenger might go 4 atb. He was even dropped earlier in the season (vs Chelsea?)

Ward as well, no point in Dyche risking a player when he has alternatives with a heavy workload

The skill is in deciphering the info available

            • 15 Years

Disagree with Kola. In scout picks and Wenger hasn’t said anything about it, could have quite easily been a rest midweek. Can’t say the minute Wenger said 4 at the back he would be dropped.

Ward today yes - but off injured in midweek no.

              • 12 Years
              8 years, 2 months ago

My point with regards to Kola is that this has happened before (him being dropped when playing 4atb) so he was always at risk compared to Monreal and Bellerin

Fair enough but speaking to a lot of arsenal fans they couldn’t see this coming as since then he has been one of their best performers. He’s coming out this week anyway now.

He's not talking crap and you know it! Sterling scores more points than Sane, for instance, because Sane is a better footballer.... Sane is better at getting wide and crossing/passing the ball to the middle where Sterling is waiting for the tap-in.... If Sterling could do the same, then Sane would score those tap-ins too, but isn't doing that at the moment... Sane has created many of his goals, Sterling's goals are all fluky or easy goals...

Yeah, but that's just it, he's not a great footballer, like Lampard, Gerrard, Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta, Xavi, well, you name it, but he's still getting those tap-ins in that City team.... I bet your granny would be good in that city side! He should get over 300pts in that City team in one season, but he'll get to 200, and that's just fine too!

You’re correct, but it’s irrelevant from a Fantasy perspective. Sterling is getting points, consistently, one way or another. As a former owner, I’m kicking myself for not having him on my team. I’ve got Morata chewing up price and space when Rooney is right there with him, and Sterling, Silva KDB, and sane or all cheaper than hazard.

Crazy as it may seem, as Coutingo is at least ten times better footballer than Sterling is, but then again Coutinho would outscore Sterling in that City team, and also not everything about football is scoring tap-ins!

Andre Gray an option over the next few game weeks?

Deeney suspended until mid January so could be pretty nailed. Next three are Brighton away, Swansea at home and Leicester at home. Could be on penalties - no Deeney and Cleverley missed his effort vs Everton.

    Best transfers?

    Lloris Elliot
    Bellerin Smalling Maguire Kenny Mariappa
    Salah Richarlison Hazard Surman Carrick
    Kane Firmino Rooney

    A) Carrick and Bellerin >> Sterling and Masuaku (-4)

    B) Carrick and Maguire >> Pogba and Masuaku (-4)

    C) Carrick, Maguire and Bellerin >> Sterling, Jones and Masuaku (-8)

    D) suggestion?

Reckon Andre Gray is worth a punt for the next few GWs now that Deeney is suspended? They still have good fixtures ... assuming they can actually keep 11 men on the pitch in some of them.

Am I the only one that thinks selling Coutinho is mad? He's my captain this week.

I agree you need to have Sterling and/or Silva but make them your 5th midfielder and sell an underperforming striker.

I have Silva in draft so thought I'd spread the risk. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong this year. The draft has money on it too.

Agree. I hate early transfers, even worse with cup games midweek and gameweek not finished. I've done 3 transfers, minus 4 but others rising. Hoping the risk pays off.

Right now 4-5-1 seems to be the go to formation, with many forwards being injured/out of form. It seems best to get to cheap forwards, eg. Niasse, keep Kane/Morata, and stack the midfield with the likes of Salah, Hazard, Sterling, Silva etc., with one or two good valued players such as Gross.
The defence seems to be pointing towards more expensive assests, with the likes of Alonso, Azpi and Valencia doing well.
The goalkeepers are strange, with usually going for 4.0 or 4.5 value keepers, we see DDG producing big amounts of value especially since he's been having to save a lot more than previous seasons.

Basically, 4-5-1 is the way to go.

MCI next fixtures look superb on paper, but will Aguero play?

City mids bring more points than their forwards, so selling him and then spread the funds elsewhere seems like a good option to me.

Thing with DDG is he is basically the cheapest and most nailed Man Utd defender.

I can get a nailed Burnley defender to pretty much cover Pope, similarly with Watford, Swansea, Brighton etc at similar prices to the GK. Chelsea are different because you buy an Alonso or Azpi for their BAPS and attacking potential.

    1. arndff_
      • 14 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

If Christensen keeps his place into CHE starting XI, he's the best option from there -- Alonso & Azpi won't bring more points than him every GW, you know. So you could upgrade other areas with that 1mln+.
