We now turn attention to the Sky Sports Fantasy game with our weekly article looking back at the weekend action, while preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

As usual, we will examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 20 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

Fixture MoTM
Arsenal vs Liverpool Roberto Firmino
Everton vs Chelsea Michael Keane
Stoke vs West Brom Eric Choupo-Moting
Swansea vs Crystal Palace Tom Carroll
Man City vs Bournemouth Sergio Aguero
West Ham vs Newcastle Christian Atsu
Brighton vs Watford Pascal Gross
Southampton vs Huddersfield Jonas Lossl
Burnley vs Spurs Harry Kane
Leicester vs Man United Romelu Lukaku
Spurs vs Southampton Harry Kane
Bournemouth vs West Ham Ryan Fraser
Huddersfield vs Stoke Tom Ince
Chelsea vs Brighton Eden Hazard
Watford vs Leicester Tom Cleverley
West Brom vs Everton Jordan Pickford
Man United vs Burnley Johann Berg Gudmundsson
Liverpool vs Swansea Roberto Firmino
Newcastle vs Man City Kevin De Bruyne
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Alexis Sanchez

Some big names feature here with the likes of Harry Kane, Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez and Roberto Firmino all responsible for huge swings in rank.

Kane and Firmino, who both earned awards with scores of 48 and 32 points respectively, were the men to inflict the big damage.

Alexis Sanchez will also have been both hero and villain following Thursday’s lone fixture. He has been something of a sleeping giant given his pedigree, but we must now consider whether template teams will be scrambled to consider accommodating the Chilean.

Gameweek 20 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 30 points or more in bonus for the season

Notes

I crumbled over the festive period and made the move to switch Raheem Sterling and Jonjoe Kenny in for Richarlison and Joe Gomez.

I had been talking about those trades for near three weeks and, in truth, I really should have committed to the decision earlier as I would be close to 50 points better off. However, it seems that “better late than never” is appropriate with Gomez once again benched last time out, while Sterling found the net once more.

My 16 transfers remaining is above the average but, among the 100 or so Sky Sports pros I regularly interact with, it’s probably just below the ideal of 18-22.

This made me hold off on bringing in Alexis Sanchez for the somewhat misfiring Eden Hazard or even for Harry Kane due to Spurs’ blank fixture.

That seems like a mistake after Sanchez’s brace and MoTM award – the Chilean was owned by just 3.7% prior to Thursday’s kick-off and will no doubt have been the catalyst for huge rank increases for those who took a chance.

That, in a nutshell, is why so many of us enjoy the Sky Sports game.

It saddens me to think that I missed out, but I have to hope there will be more opportunities down the line. Playing slow and steady for a number of seasons now has taught me that huge rank swings are possible in the back end of the season if you manage transfers carefully.

Looking ahead, again I feel happy with my team.

Hazard is on thin ice but has a great fixture this week and a chance to make amends. Chelsea also have a couple of single matchdays coming up, so it would probably be unwise to eject him at this point. However, a blank against Stoke City may just prove the tipping point. It seems fitting to captain him for a possible last hurrah, then.

Wish me luck as we go into six matchdays and, hopefully, six big captain returns.

Captain Plan

Sat 30th – Hazard (STK)
Sun 31st – De Bruyne (cry)
Mon 1st – Coutinho (bur)
Tues 2nd – De Bruyne (WAT)
Weds 3rd – Hazard (ars)
Thurs 4th – Kane (WHU)

    I’d go C, with bench order being A then B. And bench order could be pretty important this week and next week.

      Hey Jinswick, who do you think is the best captain option this weekend?

      Thinking Hazard. But with Salah's ownership I am worried, plus Hazard might be rested ahead of the Arsenal game.

      Sitting just outside top 100k atm...I think its worth the risk, you?

      Thanks.

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

        I think the safest picks are Salah and Hazard - good fixtures and on form - even though Hazard hasn't returned of late he has still played well and been quite unlucky not to be in the points.

        A City attacker is always a good option too given the way they are playing. Sterling, KDB & Aguero will be less popular but Palace can't defend without Sakho and if Arsenal can put 3 past them then I'd back City to score more.

        I'm about 200k OR and thinking of rolling the dice with Aguero(c) to try and gain some ground.

        1. Pieterke30
          • 10 Years
          8 years, 6 months ago

          I disagree - Salah and Morata are the safest picks. If Conte wants to rotate, rest some players, Hazard is more at risk than Morata.

            • Fantasy Football Scout Member
            • 15 Years
            8 years, 6 months ago

            Possibly - I agree that Morata is less likely to be rested, but Hazard's minutes have been managed of late (brought off early in 3 of the last 4) so I think both will start. Hazard more explosive also.

              This, his explosive potential is hard to ignore, especially when Zouma, Shawcross, Indi and Pieters are all injured.

    So with the news Kane has a cold, does this change your decision to own, captain or even triple captain?
    I doubt we will get any updates before the gw22 deadline unless Kane himself posts something on social media.

      The game is in Wales so I'm hoping for reports on whether he's travelled or not. Will probably still captain but not TC if there's no news.

      I think TC is always risky when it comes to using it.
      The one time it looks a cert of a good return and typically Kane is a doubt making it a risk as usual. 🙁

        Very true. But will there be a better time to use it down the line? Form and fixtures couldn’t be better even with a cold

          Fixtures and form are not much help if he isn't on the pitch

    City:

    Ederson = £35m
    Walker = £50m
    Stones = £50m
    Otamendi = £30m
    Mendy = £50m
    Fernandinho = £35m
    De Bruyne = £55m
    D. Silva = £25m
    Sterling = £45m
    Aguero = £40m
    Sane = £45m

    Total = £460m

    That ignores wages as well.

    Give Klopp,Wenger etc that type of money and they would put up a better fight for the title.

      thing is, that team you just mentioned was largely there for a few seasons.

      and most of those who weren't have been injured (stones, mendy)

      and yet they were floundering

      VVD and Keita would be ManC top 2 most expensive signings. Liverpool's sell to buy policy starting to pay off.

      Did the same and brought him in for Zaha. I'm sticking, hoping he makes it.

      Not many alternatives out there that I would be happy to switch to long term.

    Any Gunners fans who can shed a light on how Alexis' performance was last night, except the two goals?

    Is he a viable option for the armband this round? My other candidates would be Salah and Sterling.

      It was an improved performance on previous games.

      He put in a decent shift and much like with the header he scored in the last game effort and positivity is why he ended up in the right place at the right time to net. He's still struggling to beat players like he was though, perhaps confidence/fitness, not sure why but he keeps failing so there's fewer shots from inside the edge of the box than you would like to see let fly

      I wouldn't be worried about his performance/fitness any more but what the hell is going to happen when the window opens. surely stay well away at that price

    What do you reckon guys, save FT for the DGW:

    DDG
    Christensen Otamendi Mee Dunk (Ogbonna)
    Salah(c) Hazard Sterling Richarlison (RLC)
    Firminho DCL (Kane)

    1 sub only (RLC), but don't want to bin Kane for a week.

    Next week, looking at Hazard+Richarlison > 2 of Arnie, Alli, Son

    Cheers

    Alonso is the only Chelsea player apart from Courtois to have started in all 20 of Chelsea's league games this season. Earlier this season we saw Azpilicueta being benched at home to Swansea, which was quite surprising as he had started for something like 70 consecutive PL games before then.

    With Conte having said:
    "The boss says he needs to give some players some rest and rotate a little. He says he trusts all his players."

    Is Alonso at a serious risk of being rotated? Who could start instead of him?

      Alonso rested IMO along with Hazard.

      Pedro and Zappacosta to start.
