Burnley peg back Man City on a day of frustration for both the league leaders and an army of Fantasy managers.

The more philosophical will have shrugged off City’s 1-1 draw at Turf Moor as ‘just one of those days’, but those who had stocked up on City’s attack were left surveying the Fantasy wreckage of so much expensive talent bringing in meagre returns.

Three of Gameweek 26’s most popular purchases, Sergio Aguero (89,000+), Raheem Sterling (97,000+) and Kevin De Bruyne (92,000+), toiled for precious little reward against Sean Dyche’s men, with Sterling guilty of a particularly glaring miss.

That came when City were 1-0 up and in total control of a match in which they had 20 shots to their opponents’ eight, creating a chance every 4.7 minutes as they went.

Left-back Danilo, back in the side in place of Oleksandr Zinchenko, scored the goal when he curled home a Bernardo Silva pass; reward for a strong attacking performance from the defender, who had more attempts on goal than all but one player.

Sterling was the one man to better the Brazilian’s four shots, and the key attempt of his five on the day involved missing an open goal from three yards out.

That changed the mood in the stadium, inspiring a Burnley revival which culminated in Johan Berg Gudmundsson’s equaliser from a Matthew Lowton assist.

The Icelander has only scored twice in the league this season, but both have come in the last five Gameweeks as he continues to provide notable value, at 5.0, to the select band of 44,817 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers currently enjoying his services as their fifth midfielder.

Enjoyment was a considerably rarer commodity among owners of City’s stars.

Aguero blanked for the first time in four Gameweeks to deliver just two points for the 940,000 (16.5%) who captained him. That included 39 of the top 100 FPL managers, while 28% of the 17,900 who played their Triple Captain chip used it on the Argentine.

A fixture with Leicester City follows for Aguero which, crucially, comes at home as the forward has now gone four away matches without a goal.

De Bruyne has been equally underwhelming on the road, with just a single goal and assist from his last seven away days.

Sterling might have ended the match as the scapegoat, with Pep Guardiola bringing him off soon after his miss, but he has blanked only twice in nine Gameweek starts. The other was in the loss at Liverpool.

Of more concern should be City’s increasingly brittle backline, which has kept just one clean sheet in five.

John Stones remained sidelined – this time with a knee injury sustained in training – but that didn’t mean that Aymeric Laporte’s 93,000+ new owners reaped the reward as Guardiola partnered Vincent Kompany with Nicolas Otamendi at centre-half.

But whatever the combination, City’s defensive stock is on the slide as matches with Arsenal and Chelsea draw ever nearer.

In fact, trying to guess Guardiola’s teamsheet across all positions for the Leicester City match will be a tough task as the Gameweek 27 encounter comes just three days before their Champions League Round of 16 clash with Basel.

It remains to be seen how City approach that encounter, though having dropped points at Burnley, it could now be that Guardiola abandons any thoughts of rest and rotation.

As for Burnley, it was a predictably busy day for keeper Nick Pope (8.8%). Having produced just two save points from his previous five starts, he earned two more today, making six stops – more than any other goalkeeper in the Gameweek.

That was his best tally since Gameweek 17 and helped him to a bonus point made it 16 for the season now, ranking top among keepers.

The Clarets have kept only one clean sheet in eight matches, but an injury to Phil Bardsley, who was substituted at half-time, might well put Lowton back on our radars.

The defender’s assist caught the eye, as could his 4.3 price tag in the light of Burnley’s short-term schedule (swa SOT EVE whu) and a run-in that involves only matches with Chelsea and Arsenal of any major concern.

Mentioned this in our notes just published, as it stands, the only suggestion that he was ill can be found on social media - and the few sites that picked that up pre-match when it broke about him being absent from the hotel. Other - more reliable sources perhaps - do not report illness as a factor behind his absence in their reports and there was no mention of this by Mourinho post-match or in official club reports.

makes having a very cheap bench a risk, which is one of the good things about FH. You don't 'lose' a FT though which is pretty good. All depends on what the blanks in 35 are I think.

I will look at gw37 and gw38 transition. It seems the big hitters from the top teams more likely to be in danger cup semis and have dbgw in gw37 also have a good gw38 fixture. Free hit will be needed for blank gw35

One argument against it is rotation.
GW 38 can be pretty bad sometimes and one of the merits of the FH chip imo, is that you don’t have to put too much money in the bench, but focus more on a starting XI.

No, very foolish. It will be a complete lottery as to who actually plays. Say City have the title wrapped up, United, Spurs and Liverpool have the next 3 places sorted, and the next dozen teams have nothing to play for. You're only left with relegation scrappers to play their strongest XIs. Remember that year United put out a whole side of academy kids against Hull?

Regarding the free hit in GW38..... here's the reasoning and facts if any interested

There seems to be some very strong arguments for using your Free Hit for either the major BGW of GW31 or any of the few DGW's. However, something that is really being overlooked is the predictability for GW38 and how you start to see some of your better players riding the bench instead of scoring for your squad.
There is a strong risk that using your Free Hit for GW31 could easily backfire for a few points considering we may see some lower quality sides play that GW. In addition, it's not like people are not doubling up on Liverpool, making it kind of useless to throw away your free hit for that GW.
As for some of the DGW's, using your free hit means you are only able to utilize 11 players for 22 sets of points. It's no guarantee these guys will all produce point hauls either. Using your Bench Boost and your Triple Captain is a better call for your DGW's as the Bench Boost can allow you to have even more fixtures than if you just use your Free Hit purely for DGW'ers. If you have 8 DGW'ers and are using bench boost, you are already fielding more than if you just use your free hit to field 11. As for the Triple Captain, a carefully played TC could allow you at least an extra 15 points on top of your captaincy choice. With smart planning, you can avoid the need to play your free hit for the DGW's.
The case for using your Free Hit for GW38 is that this is arguably the most predictable GW when it comes to what squads are going to be fielded. If a team has nothing to play for, you can usually see what the squad's motive is. Should Manchester City be in the UCL final, I would not be surprised if they start to back off a little bit and play a few reserves here/there. The mid table teams are also fairly predictable with their form going into GW38. Chances are, you'll have a few of Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and maybe Arsenal with top-4 to play for and if they're against a squad with nothing to play for, you can expect a solid victory for the contending sides. Teams still in the relegation battle also have serious stakes to play for, even if they are of lower quality. Another thing that is fairly overlooked is squad morale. I'll highlight a few glaring examples:
The Stoke 6-1 Liverpool match a few seasons back was very easy to predict because of how broken the squad morale was for the Reds at the time.
06/07, West Ham walking away from Old Trafford with a W was a classic example of a team with something to play for against a team with nothing to play for. United had already won the title while West Ham needed a win to stay in the EPL.
The Newcastle 5-1 against Tottenham was a match where two teams with nothing to play for where the squad morale was contrasting. Newcastle had some promise after hiring Rafa even though it was almost too late and were playing for pride while Spurs were not in a good mood after conceding the title to Leicester.
Another Liverpool example was also in 15/16, where they had a Europa League Final days later that would be their only hope of UCL qualification. With that in mind, they fielded a reserve side to rest their starters for the final.
I don't think I've had a full 11 scoring for GW38 in the few years I've been playing FPL. It's one of those GW's that can really start to mess around with your squad in ways you are not really expecting it to until the GW actually happens. By using your Free Hit for that GW, you are able to play any transfer you need to so that you have a full 11 plus subs for the GW. The BGW's and DGW's can be carefully planned around over the course of a few GW's.
The final example could very well happen with Arsenal this season as they are a bit of distance back of 4th place and are prone to throwing away some more results as the season starts to ramp up.
It's way too early to predict what will likely happen in GW38, but as we get closer to the GW it becomes a lot more predictable.
TL;DR - Not only is GW38 arguably one of the more predictable GW's in regards to both scoring as well as the matchday squads, but it is also the one that is most likely to mess around with your FPL squad.

It's a decent point and an advantage of planning for 31, is if 35 ends up being able to get through anyway, then the FH could be saved for 38. Don't forget though, last year gw38, many got 100 points.

GW35 is the best time mate. It means you can WC in 32/33 and get in all players that have 2 DGWs (34&37) without the massive headache that they will all blank in 35

And unless you wrote the post on reddit, you’re also plagiarizing ...

No. You may be able to predict which players are going to be rested or unmotivated, but you can't predict which fringe players or kids the managers will give a run-out to. If you've left it to GW38 to bag necessary points, you've blown it.

Obviously this is a polarizing & controversial post (if indeed plagiarised)...

HOWEVER, one additional Note (i think is unmentioned):
The other Extremely IMPORTANT Aspect of the Free-Hit Chip, Is getting your Old Team BACK, afterwords—Basically 2 weeks old AND with a Lost Transfer(which are gold at the final stage of the season)...
So, using the FH in GW38 removes that negative(imo) aspect of the chip...

Overall, I Don’t think there is a universal/blanket ‘best-use GW’ for the Free Hit! Each of our Situations/Goals can & prob will be completely different!
Only strategy I see, that COULD make sense, most of the time; is that the Later u use your Wildcard—the Later u should use the FH (but a general & flexible plan is always KEY)
... “cause KNOWING is Half the Battle”!...lol

                            Is Ward-Prowse being overlooked?

Too many alternatives playing in better teams probably

what do you think to these moves next GW

                            Otamendi out Mawson in
                            Tadic out Walcott in
                            -4

I'd pencilled in Walcott, but after that Everton horror show I'm stalling.

You know, even with the highest score being created this week.... Fair play, who would have thought Ramsey and mkhi to go crazy against Everton..... You have to admit it is a skill.

Would be nice if there was a little side game where you can completely change your team every week and just see who gets the top points

I agree the epl game is not as good beause of the -4 point hit for every transfer. If it were like the champions league one it would require more skill. You actually have to know whos gonna do well and not just rely on one big hitting captain every week.

Thats all epl fantasy is about.. the right captain choice
