Wigan Athletic pull off one of the biggest shocks of recent FA Cup history by knocking out Man City, with a post-match incident involving star striker Sergio Aguero adding further potential woe for Pep Guardiola’s men.

The 1-0 win, courtesy of combustible striker Will Grigg’s second-half goal, confirmed that City’s Gameweek 28 trip to Arsenal will now go ahead on Thursday March 1, four days after the same teams clash in the Carabao Cup final this Sunday.

However, despite City’s exit, the result failed to reinforce Gameweek 31, with their opponent over that round of fixtures – Brighton – already having progressed to the last eight.

With that in mind, the schedule now promotes sales of Guardiola’s charges, who now face just one bottom-half opponent in the next seven Gameweeks.

After the league match with Arsenal, City entertain Chelsea, travel to Stoke City and then have a blank Gameweek 31. That’s then followed by trips to Everton and Spurs either side of a Manchester derby at the Etihad.

Furthermore, should City progress to the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of FC Basel, the first and second legs will be played in the midweek prior to their league encounters with Man United and Spurs respectively.

On a more positive note, Gameweek 35’s kind home match with Swansea City – set for the weekend of the FA Cup semi-finals – will go ahead unless the Swans win both their fifth round replay with Sheffield Wednesday and a quarter-final tie against either Spurs or Rochdale. Should the Welsh club fail to make the last four, playing the Free Hit Chip in Gameweek 35, rather than Gameweek 31, looks increasingly favourable.

Having said that, with City set to offer two fixtures in Gameweek 34, non-Free Hit managers can load up prior to the double and have them active and available for Gameweek 35. It therefore seems unlikely that City’s assets will be exclusive to Free Hit squads come Gameweek 35.

Last night’s defeat involved another failure to keep a clean sheet – City have managed just three shut-outs in 12 matches in all competitions since the turn of the year.

That has prompted early Gameweek 28 sales in Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) most popular defender, Nicolas Otamendi.

Owned by 30%, the centre-half has been sold by 63,000+ managers – only three players have been moved on by more – although the trend for sales is not being seen across all City assets.

Indeed, Aguero is currently the second most purchased player of the Gameweek, with 120,000+ bringing him in on the back of a four-goal showing against Leicester City in Gameweek 27.

Those new managers would have watched post-match events with some alarm as the Argentinian striker was involved in an altercation with a Wigan fan during a pitch invasion that followed the final whistle.

There are reports in the media that his actions could lead to an FA investigation, but regardless of what the authorities decide, one City player will definitely be out for the foreseeable future.

Fabien Delph was dismissed just before half-time last night for what was deemed to be a reckless challenge on Wigan’s Max Power.

He is now suspended for three matches which means, with the Carabao Cup final also factored in, he will next be available for selection for the Gameweek 30 trip to Stoke City.

Delph was one of five players to retain their place from the side that had beaten Leicester 5-1.

Claudio Bravo returned in goal and Danilo, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Leroy Sane and David Silva also came in.

Otamendi and Raheem Sterling had the night off, while Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker were on the bench, with both introduced after the interval.

Delph’s dismissal prompted Guardiola to bring Walker on at right-back, with Danilo swapping flanks and the ineffectual Sane making way.

The German winger is still being eased back into action following an ankle ligament injury, and it would be a surprise if Sterling doesn’t start both the Carabao Cup final and the league match with Arsenal.

The England international, who with 37.4% ownership is City’s most popular player in FPL, is just outside the top ten for sales ahead of Gameweek 28 despite producing either a goal or an assist in eight of his last 10 starts.

Based on their upcoming schedule, more City assets could well be ushered out of FPL squads in the near future.

But the defeat at Wigan and last week’s 4-0 win at Basel in the Champions League – the second leg of that tie falls between the fixtures with Chelsea and Stoke – relieves some of the need for Guardiola to rotate his key players over the next few league matches.

That might persuade some managers to stick with their City stars despite the relative severity of the schedule to come.

    Up until GW32...

    A) Adrian (liv, swa, BUR, blank, SOU)
    B) Begovic (NEW, lei, TOT, WBA, wat) (-4)
    C) Pickford (wat, bur, BRI, sto, MCI) (-4)

I am in the same boat. I have Adrian and Speroni so I am forced to play the former every GW. Next is against Liverpool away so I am tempted to get a new keeper for -4

I am thinking in Pickford and Begovic as well but also considering

      D) Lossl (wba, tot, SWA, CRY)

      I will WC in GW32

I've got Adrian and Elliot and I'm thinking I'll just keep Adrian until GW30 as he has two OK fixtures after this one. Saves me a -4 too.

Also, I'm not overly convinced on any of the GW31 keepers apart from Karius.

Karius would be nice but it is really hard to het him before Salah, Firmino, VVD or Mane

But you are right. These keepers are not inspiring to get for -4

Need to make up some ground on mini leauge rival and also want to have 9-11 players for GW31. So what's my best move:

    A) Jones, Alonso & Lingard ➡️ Robertson, Daniels & Erikson (-4pts)

    B) Jones & Lingard ➡️ Robertson & Shaqiri

    C) Otamendi & Lingard ➡️ VVD & Shaqiri

    D) Something else

    Team is:
    DDG - Speroni
    Alonso - Ota - Jones - Mee - Mariappa
    Salah - Sterling - Walcott - Albrighton - Lingard
    Kane - Firmino - Wilson

Like plenty others, I've been looking at selling Jones and Otamendi ahead of the crappy fixtures ....... except they're not ALL bad, depending on who else you have.

In my case I have a fairly 'normal' lineup of Jones, Otamendi, Daniels, Ogbonna and Dunk

28's a horrid week to bank on UTD and MCY defence , no doubt
29: Utd away to Palace. If Jones were fit (and hasn't had a big duff up with Jose) then that's hardly a bad fixture for them.
30: I don't think City will be too nervous about paying away at Stoke, so Otamendi can play that week.

Ogbonna ? 28 / 29 he won't play for me, though home to Burnley in GW30 could yield a CS
Duff? Nothing to see here - bad bad bad news across the board

So for me it's Duff > Liverpool defender and keep Jones / Otamendi for those two games where they have a half decent game.

That I also have a fair bit of money tied up in them is not really a factor at this stage of the season

Otamendi->VVD (say) gives a much better run of fixtures (1 more game in the next 4) and roughly equal attacking threat? Think that's a good move. Jones doesn't offer much going forward, but united could keep a clean sheet against anyone - if Jones is going to play. Think I'd rather have Hegazi or Bauer and some money to spend elsewhere with those fixtures and the uncertainty?

      1. danishdynamite

VVD I agree with, which is why I'll be doing Dunk > VVD

Bauer, Hegazi, Coleman whoever else are dogmuck until 31 when they're geat only by virtue of having a game.

Who will be the "magic beans" of DGW34? Budget will surely be stretched to the limit.
In defense, Simpson or Chilwell if they're nailed probably, Fernandez or Naughton surely. Ogbonna even, given they've got Stoke(H).
For 5th mid I guess we will have to resort to the likes of TCarroll or Romeu.
Look like 3 big hitters up front will be the way to go, i.e. Vardy + Kane + Auba/Kun/Giroud
Anyone cheap gems going under the radar?

A very very basic question - A hat-trick for a striker is almost equal to a brace from a mid with CS, so why play 3-4-3 and not 3-5-2

Plenty of managers playing 3-5-2. It really all depends on who's in form and affordable. I've played 3-5-2, 4-4-2 and 3-4-3 on and off this season.

24 bps for a striker goal and only 18bps for a mid, means that if both get a brace the striker is likely to get the bonus points (normal disclaimer for generalising - anyone missing shots on goal gets penalised in bps)

Afternoon all, 1 FT and 0 ITB. Thinking of rolling the FT, or maybe getting Shaqiri in for Ramsey. Any other suggestions?

    Fabianski - (Foster)
    Hegazi - Mawson - Daniels - (Mee - Jones)
    Mkhitaryan - Salah - Deulofeu - Walcott - (Ramsey)
    Aubamayang - Kane - Wilson

Are both of these routes good dependent on Jones injury this weekend:

    Current team
    Pickford
    Alonso, otamendi, Jones (dunk,ogbonna)
    Salah,Sterling,Shaqiri,KDB,walcott
    Kane,Wilson (depoitre)

    Plan 1
    gw28: 2ft
    Alonso > VVD
    GW29
    KDB + Depoite > Firmino +Sigurdson
    gw31:
    Dunk + Ogbonna > 9.2m (2 def)

    Plan 2
    gw28: 2ft
    Jones > VVD
    gw29:
    KDB + Depoitre + Otamendi > Firmino,Dawson,Sigurdson -4
    gw31:
    Alonso + 4.4m def > 11.6m (2 def)

plan 1 involves no hits, losing alonso keeping otamendi + Jones and fielding 10men gw31
plan 2 involves -4, losing otamendi and Jones but keeping alonso longer and fielding 10men gw31
