Gameweek 31 has kicked off, as has a new series of articles that will present key statistics of the top 10,000 ranked Fantasy Premier League managers’ team selections every week.

The goal is to provide managers with a sense of the damage, or gain, they can anticipate as the Gameweek unfolds by understanding what a good sample of active teams have done.

Given how unusual Gameweek 31 is, we focus our analysis this time on the Free Hit use and the number of active Gameweek 31 players in the top 10,000 placings.

Here are the most relevant stats:

The number of Free Hit teams in the top 10k is 2532 – a percentage of 25.32%.

The average number of points deducted in non-Free Hit teams is -2.02, with the full distribution below:

The average number of Gameweek 31 players in all teams is 9.43 (counting all players from today’s eight matches for now, even the ones who didn’t/won’t feature).

Analysis of who featured/versus who did not will be presented in another article after the Gameweek ends.

Teams using the Free Hit chip have an average number of players of 14.67, while teams with no Free Hit have 7.65 with the following distribution:

Now, let’s dig deeper into the Gameweek 31 players and see which teams have contributed the most.

The following figure shows how many players each team is contributing on average to active managers:

We see an understandable dominance of Liverpool players (2.86 players per manager) as they’re the only top-six team with a fixture this week. Bournemouth assets place second.

To quantify the Liverpool percentages more, let’s look at how many teams own three, two, one or zero players from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Over 87.6% own three Liverpool players and over 98% of players have at least two.

Taking a look at the captain and vice-captain choices, we see a possible record for captaincy among the top 10k, with Mohamed Salah handed the armband by 88.8%. That figure will definitely go higher by the end of the Gameweek as the captainers of Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane etc could have Salah as their vice-captain.

Roberto Firmino is in second place, with only 4.28%.

Vice-captaincy stats are also dominated by Liverpool assets, with Firmino being selected by 56.56% of managers, Mane 10.37% and Salah 6.37%.

Finally, here’s a table of the most-owned eight players in each position this week (showing only players with a fixture).

With this week being a prime candidate for the Free Hit to be played, we present the template squad created by those playing the chip.

It’s slightly different than the most selected players in all teams due to the freedom Free Hitters have in choosing nailed-on and in-form players.

Butland 52.53%, Lössl 48.38%

Baines 68.25%, Schindler 59.91%, van Aanholt 59.28%, Aké 55.53%, Zouma 32.31%

Salah 99.72%, Mané 77.37%, Zaha 62.52%, Shaqiri 61.69%, Stanislas 61.57%

Firmino 98.78%, Wilson 58.89%, Mounie 49.17%

We will follow up tomorrow with the results of this Gameweek and an analysis of how much Free Hit users gained.

Also, if you have similar statistics that you want to be included in future articles, please leave your suggestions in a comment.

        Define fodder?

Courtois is fine but if the other one is non-playing it's a huge waste if you've still got bench boost.

Would really advise against it if you still have BB. If Swansea's postponed game goes in GW34 then Fabianski has 2 great home fixtures that week. BB essentially = 4 goalkeepers.

            Otherwise makes sense.

      Definitely Fabianski, 90% de Gea.

If for some reason I can't afford de Gea it'll be Ederson, Schmeichel or Dubravka.

    Better option on wildcard?

    A) Lukaku, Murray & Kenedy

    B) Vardy, Sterling & Barnes

    C) Firmino, Silva & Barnes

Barnes or Kenedy will be bench fodder.

Worried about rotation/reduced minutes for City & Pool assets except Salah.

Hmmm maybe we find out during this two week period...I'm gonna play the market a bit:

        DDG - Pope.

        Robertson - Mee - Morgan - Holgate - Kiko.

        Salah - Mahrez - Son - Willian - Dilva.

        Jesus - Firm - Barnes.

Really struggling with the defence as I have little faith of CSs anyway...

Been playing too much Fantasy Eliteserien when I read 'Kiko' as 'Kitolano' 😀

I'm probably keeping Lascelles on WC, Newcastle just seem fairly solid when he plays, especially at home/against bad teams and he has a bit of goal/bonus potential. Definitely get him over Morgan/Holgate/Kiko. Also look at Swansea if they have a GW34 double.

Which premium players are we ignoring and are we right to do so for our wc teams ?

Hazard, Sanchez , Ali or city assets come to mind. Hazard has been overcome by Willian but could.still hit the roof , Sanchez hasn't found his feet at united yet so best to avoid , Ali could benefit from kane s absence but son offers better value , city players will be too much a risk of rotation surely, won't they ? Any thoughts ? What about Alonso ? His price is likely to drop why are people getting rid of him ?

After a great BGW what on earth do I do next gameweek? Not even sure what 11 to field let alone transfers.

    Hennessey | Elliot
    Alonso | Robertson | PVA | Mee | Dummett
    Salah | Mahrez | Shaqiri | Stanislas | Milivojevic
    Firmino | Vardy | King

    1FT, 7.3ITB

Thinking perhaps a punt on Aubemayang.

    Thanks!

Great fixturex and guaranteed minutes. Auba will be in many wildcards.

In case Jesus double rises, I am going with him for now, may switch to Auba after that and before GW32 starts

Auba will go up as well. I'll just put both in with Dilva until there is a defender going up in price that I want.

I thought WC transfers don't effect price changes? Or slows them down or summat

Cheers. King to Aubemayang seems the obvious move then

Many dead teams with Salah (vc) and a non-playing captain. Gonna be a long day figuring out the rankings

He’s Brighton’s top scorer so being on the bench is odd.

He's scored more than Kane this year if I heard them correctly

DDG or Ederson on a wildcard, don't have either at the no so no money tied up in DDG, not sure if that influences things at all? Thinking of getting smalling too

What is the record for points scored by one player in a single gw?
    Surely Salah was close tonight?

Wc transfers do not count towards price rises, unless they haven’t pressed the WC button until later

With Wilson -> Auba for FT, I'll be going into GW32 with this team:

    Begovic
    Alonso Otamendi Mariappa
    Salah Mané Sané Walcott Stanislas
    Auba Firmino
    (Elliot* Dunk Ogbonna Mounie)

Good enough to hold WC until GW33?

Whats the big win on waiting for GW33? More knowledge or is it dodging Chelsea against Spurs fixture? I have had my eye on the GW32 WC but suddenly I read about people waiting for 33.

Both, as well as I'd like to keep 3 Liverpool for GW32

Ahh, now your messing with my plan. But I agree, going into Liv-CP with Firm, Mane and Salah wouldn't be to bad...

Will be a long night to figure this on out 🙂
