After a long wait, we finally received confirmation of Double Gameweek 34 this afternoon.

Planning and preparation now gets underway in earnest as we assess the best ways to tackle the run-in after eight teams were handed a pair of fixtures in Gameweek 34.

Confirmed Double Gameweek 34 schedule
Bournemouth (liv MUN)
Brighton (cry TOT)
Burnley (LEI CHE)
Chelsea (sot bur)
Leicester (bur SOT)
Man United (WBA bou)
Southampton (CHE lei)
Spurs (MCI bha)

This leaves six matches still requiring a new date.

Chelsea vs Huddersfield
Leicester vs Arsenal
Man City vs Brighton
Swansea vs Southampton
Tottenham vs Newcastle
West Ham vs Man United

The Premier League have confirmed that these will be rescheduled by Tuesday April 3 – before Gameweek 33 – though it is now expected that those 12 teams will now face a Double Gameweek 37.

Providing they drop in Gameweek 37, the schedule would be as follows:

Potential Double Gameweek 37 schedule
Arsenal (BUR lei)
Brighton (MUN mci)
Chelsea (LIV HUD)
Huddersfield (mci che)
Leicester (WHU ARS)
Man City (HUD BHA)
Man United (bha whu)
Newcastle (wat tot)
Southampton (eve swa)
Swansea (bou SOT)
Tottenham (wba NEW)
West Ham (lei MUN)

This is the reverse of the previous school of thought, which had many managers making plans based on the assumption that 12 teams would be playing twice in Double Gameweek 34.

The surprise switch in today’s fixtures may now have many managers reassessing their plans for the run-in, particularly those who still have one or more of the Wildcard, Bench Boost and Free Hit chips in hand.

Earlier this week it was revealed that this is thought to be 12% of the top 10,000 managers and an estimated 20% of “active” managers.

Significantly, some 52,000+ have already played their Wildcard since the Gameweek 31 deadline passed, perhaps expecting that the likes of Arsenal and Man City to also be handed a Double Gameweek 34. Indeed, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the most signed ahead of a return to domestic action, claiming over 125,000 new owners so far.

Immediately, you can see that today’s confirmation has made matters far more difficult for those without the Free Hit chip who were targeting the Gunners’ striker for an expected Double Gameweek 34.

Arsenal were previously one of six teams – along with Burnley, Man City, Newcastle, Swansea and West Ham – who were all expected to have a Double Gameweek 34 and also play in Gameweek 35.

Now, however, that applies only to Burnley.

Without the Free Hit, managers will have to balance their building for the Double Gameweek and then use transfer hits to repair the squad ahead of the Gameweek 35 postponements. What’s more, with the likes of Arsenal and Man City treated to favourable fixtures, a Free Hit in Gameweek 35 could prove even more devastating than the success story that was Gameweek 31.

Certainly, for those still holding their Bench Boost chips, Gameweek 34 was the favoured window prior to today’s reveal.

Now, though, with five of the top six sides – Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Spurs – all likely to play twice in Gameweek 37, some will be setting their sights on the latter round instead.

Indeed, City, United and Spurs all face a pair of opponents outside of the top eight and will clearly offer huge points potential.

Much depends on the state of your squad, of course, and the number of chips still at your disposal. Indeed, this afternoon’s news could provide food for thought for those managers who avoided “dead-ending” their squads in Gameweek 31 and have yet to play the Wildcard.

Should they now favour Double Gameweek 37, they could now play the Free Hit Chip in Double Gameweek 34, with the Wildcard in Gameweek 36 and Bench Boost in Gameweek 37.

On the other hand, while the allure of Double Gameweek 37 may be greater on paper, the reality could be that, by then, many of the sides may have little to play for in the league.

Those Bench Boosting in Double Gameweek 37 will be relying on many teams still being motivated and therefore less prone to rotation, yet there’s a chance that the fight for survival and battle for top-four finishes could be done and dusted by then.

Meanwhile, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Spurs could all still be involved in cup competitions come Double Gameweek 37.

In the case of Man City and Arsenal, the Champions League and Europa League semi-final second legs are in the midweek before the start of Double Gameweek 37. Meanwhile, the Europa League final is just three days after Gameweek 38.

Chelsea, Spurs and Man United all still have hopes of clinching the FA Cup, with the final taking place on May 19 – six days after the end of the season.

You only have to look back to Double Gameweek 37, where Antonio Conte named the following XI at home to Watford in the second of Chelsea’s matches, with one eye on the FA Cup final on May 27.

Begovic; Zouma, Ake, Terry; Azpilicueta, Chalobah, Kante, Kenedy; Hazard, Willian; Batshuayi

While those who opt to Bench Boost in Double Gameweek 34 may have fewer big-hitting, explosive options to load up on, their squads could be less likely to suffer from unexpected teamsheets as fringe players get the chance of a run-out in the penultimate Gameweek.

With Harry Kane potentially still in the running along with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Christian Eriksen and Riyad Mahrez, it’s not as if we’ll short of premium, in-form picks for Double Gameweek 34.

Arguably, then, Fantasy managers who are looking to lessen the likelihood of rotation – and avoid a repeat of instances such as Conte’s infamous XI – may look to using an early Wildcard in Gameweek 32 or 33 in order to profit from the security of Double Gameweek 34 instead.

Choosing when to play the Triple Captain chip will also impact in our plans.

Looking at the main contenders in Double Gameweek 34, Kane – if fit – hosts Man City, Mahrez and Hazard have Burnley away, while Lukaku, although in form, has been far from explosive and managed three double-digit returns all season.

On the other hand, Kane’s Double Gameweek 37, away to West Brom and at home to Newcastle, could prove the big factor in deciding when to play our Triple Captain chip and therefore also our Bench Boost.

Granted, we won’t forgot this season’s Double Gameweek 22 in a hurry – the Spurs striker returned just three points against Swansea and West Ham – yet Kane’s exploits in the corresponding round last term will live far longer in the memory.

Five goals and an assist over 180 minutes’ pitch-time against Man United and Leicester in Double Gameweek 37 preceded a hat-trick at Hull in the season finale to clinch the Golden Boot.

Even if he fails to overcome Mohamed Salah as the top scorer in 2017/18, a fully-fit Kane’s security of pitch-time makes him a big favourite for the Double Gameweek 37 Triple Captain chip.

Again, while Man City also have the fixtures – at home to Huddersfield and Brighton – if Pep Guardiola’s men wrap up the league title early and progress past Liverpool into the Champions League semi-finals, rotation looks inevitable.

Indeed, their head-to-head with the Merseysiders could ultimately prove decisive in how we approach the remaining rounds of fixtures.

Defeat to Liverpool would leave City with only league matches left on their agenda and that might not be a bad thing, even if the title is wrapped up by that point.

As discussed on club’s official website earlier in the week, Guardiola’s men have as many as ten Premier League records in their sights.

Incentive enough, surely, to limit the chances of rotation should they fall to defeat and fail to reach the last four in Europe.

      B) Lukaku for SWA, mci and save the FT

                I’m pencilling a bit I don’t like planning transfers.

I’m also going Miki and Mustafi so really going for those fixtures and ten taking a hit to drop them.

How's this then? Aub out for Vardy for DGW 34 and then straight back in again with the FH.

                DDG - Fab
                Mustafi - Christensen - Smalling - Lowton - Morgan
                Salah - Willian - Mahrez - Son - Kenedy
                Aub - Lukaku - Murray

Any glaring errors or other options? 0.5 left, thanks.

                WC team:

                DDG | Courtois
                Alonso | Alderweireld | Mee | Morgan | Dunk
                Salah | Mahrez | Son | Willian | 4.3
                Firmino | Auba | Vardy

                GW34 transfers (-4):
Auba, Vardy, Mee > Lukaku, Murray, Valencia

                Any feedbacks?

Courtois - will you play him enough to justify locking out the extra 1m.
                    Firmino - not for me.
Committing to a hit already is risky if other stuff goes pear shaped.

Courtois will play GW33(when MUN play City) and GW34
                      Firmino I can understand
Also 1 hit plan is risky I agree but it is the best DGW team with BB active. I don't think you can get any better.

I actually like Firmino at least up top GW36. Think he outscores Murray for example.

Wouldn't lose Vardy for GW34 though.

Far too much money in your goalkeepers. Alderweireld might not be fit. You can save money by getting Tarkowski over Mee.

p.s. is that team even affordable?

If you think about GKs ; you will have 2 best GKs (fixturewise) for the DGW + you can play Courtois in GW33 instead of DDG against City.

In light of the new fixtures and on a current WC, there is no need to double down on swans.

DdG and Pope becomes the bb 34 options and Smalling is back in the team along with Robertson. An arsenal defender dropped for Robertson is also a good idea

                  DdG/Pope(or Ryan)
Alonso Smalling(or Alderwild)) Robertson Lowton vdhH
                  Salah Mahrez Son Willian Kenedy
                  Aubamayang Firmino Vardy

Alder/Ryan combo is an option too but not sure which I prefare... DdG + Pope + Smalling or DdG Ryan and Alderweild

I was originally annoyed about my arsenal and Swansea assets gone to pot, but actually Swans can become Burnley/Brighton and Arsenal can stay.

Stoke and Southampton at home screams good returns - think like when people brought mahrez in before 31 to gain points.

Then use two free transfers to bring in Double gameweek players for arsenal players.

Yeah just mentioned that in the post above. Opting for Robertson/Smalling/Alderweild instead of an Arsenal defender.

Fabianksi becomes Ryan or Pope and VdH/Naughton can either stay or double down on Burnley

                      Yeh posted this first.

Fab was a shoe in for me but now that’s changed and I’m not too keen on the Burnley keeper situation, can see Heston getting a few minutes here and there.

                            It's him or Mustafi/Smalling. Don't trust either!

Going to see how Alder is in the intl.. Really not sold on either of those options but smalling probably more useful for the double

With a relatively middling team value, don't think I need to look past this wildcard team?

BB in 34. FH in 35. Aubameyang might/not become Vardy for 34.

Trick is what players to hold for 32/33 and offload for 34 - Citeh, Liverpool and Arsenal all come into the category. Max of 3 + Salah so just take one hit for 34?

I'm probably having Silva, Auba, Firmino and Salah and then probably keeping Salah and Firmino. Obviously this could change - not sure Vardy x2 outscores Firmino (+4) vs Bou

So what's the ideal strike force now for Wildcarders? Aubu no longer has a double in 34. Looking at the fixtures it's a shame Morata isn't on form.

Auba for 32 and 33 looks good then swap him to Lukaku for the DGW. With perhaps Vardy and Murray alongside. But what about Firmino?

Maybe set up team with Auba and Firmino for 32 and 33, then use 2FT's for best strikeforce at the time and hope no injuries elsewhere.

                    Definitely Vardy.

Many will say Lukaku paired with Barnes/Murray.

So let’s say lukaku, Vardy, Baines. That’s the template.

My stance is Sanchez edges Lukaku.

So I’d go... Vardy with 2 from Murray, Barnes and Wood.

Funny how the dust settles and people seem content they wildcarded.

As long as you have FH, it’s the right thing to do.

Those that don’t have FH, yeah it sucks but you had a huge advantage over the previous few weeks.

It’ll all settle in the end. May the games begin.

Ps Sanchez over Lukaku is a no brainer for me. I actually think 442 could be the way to go..

I’m not excited about Lukaku either. That’s why I’m more than happy to punt on Sanchez. It’s the kind of 50/50 flip that could propel you. And if it doesn’t there’s still a chance Kaku does sweet FA anyway

Lukaku can switch to Kane if necessary without too much hassle. Having Sanchez/Hazard makes that pretty hard, at least with my budget.

It’ll be a two transfer job for most anyway based on Kane’s price. So that wouldn’t worry me.

Sanchez to whoever has a nice DGW and cheap.
                              Murray to Kane

                        ddg
                        alonso - bailly - lowton

                        lukaku - vardy - murray

bench; ryan - gudmundsson - morgan - duffy

Yeah looks good, mine is similar. Prefer Barnes to Murray, even with the 37 extra game for Brighton the fixtures are a bit stinky. But you have Guds so maybe that's enough.
                          Why Morgan over Chilwell?

I'm also having Aubam over Vardy until 34, can't resist those 2 home games

Those who have Wildcarded 32 actually looking pretty good, assuming BB34; FH35; TC37

Triple Man U, Chelsea and Leicester, with a couple of Brighton & Burnley, Son & Salah will give 14x DGWers plus Salah in 34.

Free hit triple City, Arsenal and Liverpool in 35 gives 9 plus a few decent fillers.

GW37 will be fine with a couple of FTs to get 10 DGWers + Salah.

Only problem arises is getting Kane back to TC in 37 as it’s going to mean some serious sacrifice, or just go without.....

Can't go without, especially after last season!

Just some planning will have to go into it, a -4 would be fine with some fts

Downgrade one premium mid/defender then Lukaku/Firmino to Kane. Not the biggest sacrifice!

Yeh, Lukaku + ano will have to go.

Sacrifice but as you say maybe not as first imagined, just don’t like losing premium DGWers

Planning without him. Not the best fixtures and if he does make it back his minutes might be managed to get him up to full fitness.

I’ve a sneaking suspicion he’ll only be fully fit for 37 anyway.

Anyone without the FH planning a triple captain in 34? Luk and Mahrez both reasonably decent options? Maybe Sanchez as a differential?

How does this look - on a WC:

                        £0.2itb
                        DDG (Ryan)
                        Alonso, Bailly, Morgan, Lowton (Christensen)
                        Salah, Mahrez, Willian, Son (Gros)
                        Auba, Firmino (Murray)

Will probably do: Firmino, Auba >> Lukaku, Vardy for GW34

What do you reckon? I have my FH and BB left

I have a 34BB 35FH and 37TC plan filled with Courtois/Bailly instead of DDG/Alonso compromises, Hits to get 3 Spurs in by 37 and even ditching Salah for 37 and bringing him back in for 38. What could possibly go wrong?! LOL

Its difficult, id say dont overkill your team with 34DGW, perhaps 7/8 and have 6/7 BGW35 players, then perhaps save 2 transfers for the 35 and take a -4 or -8 to bring in some players. Only plan i have so far
