Our series of members’ Monitor articles on Wildcard targets continues this evening with a look at Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea.

As has been the case for almost the entirety of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, the Spaniard sits on top of the positional rankings and is the most owned goalkeeper overall.

However, despite that, De Gea has rarely featured at the summit of our Watchlist rankings until this point, with his two double Gameweeks and kind schedule now a major factor.

De Gea has accumulated 144 FPL points, six points clear of his nearest challenger (Manchester City’s Ederson), while an average of 4.8 points per match (ppm) is bettered only by Burnley’s Nick Pope (4.9ppm).

Amazingly, De Gea is now just five points short of Tom Heaton’s league-leading 149-point haul recorded last season – despite the United keeper still having eight matches left to play.

More impressively, should he maintain his current per-game averages, De Gea even looks poised to break Joe Hart’s single-season record of 166 points recorded in 2011/12 – when the City keeper combined 17 shutouts with 99 saves.

On the basis of these numbers, it would seem impossible to argue that anybody but De Gea belongs between the sticks of in our squads over the final eight Gameweeks.

Digging deeper into the keeper’s numbers, however, highlights a surprising decline in output.

I would nurse your team through to 34 keeping Arsenal & Liverpool players and get a few more players with double game weeks and a couple of Burnley, then take a few hits in 35 to get 11 players.

TC Mahrez or your best player in 34 or Salah in a single gameweek, WC in 36, BB in 37

A GW34 bench set up to boost is so weak though, hardly worth the effort and the waste of the BB chip - better stacking your bench with players that have a game in 35 and boosting in 37?

DGW 34 Free Hit starting 11:

    Team 1
    DDG
    Alonso Valencia Maguire Tarkowski
    Salah Willian Mahrez Hazard
    Vardy Lukaku

    Team 2

    DDG
    Alonso Tarkowski Morgan
    Salah Willian Mahrez Hazard Son
    Vardy Lukaku

PS Both squads have only 1 playing (DGW player) substitute.

What do you think, Team 1 or Team 2? Leaning towards 1 as I think it's more balanced and Maguire and Valencia could be semi-differentials a most are going for Smalling or cheaper Leicester defenders, and Team 2 seems quite templatey (also not convinced Spurs will do well in that GW, no plan to get Kane at the mo).

Team 1 or 2, or any suggestions for improvements?

                  I’ve wildcarded. FH35.

If no Free Hit then probably wildcards later. Otherwise you’ll be stuck for 34 or 35.

Used his FH in 31. Fingers crossed. I’m sure we both have different startegies now so should be an interesting end.

He is nailed fair enough but could still be benched. As huddersfield last match did not go well. Vlp I think was benched and could fair enough start the next. But the big question is when you look at gw32 fixtures do you see Pritchard returning points? If you do not, just sell, same for vlp. Ask yourself if pritchard does not return points will you be disappointed at the end of the day? If you wont then you can pick him, he could eventually.

    DDG - Schmiechel
    Alonso - Vertongen - Mustafi - Lowton - Morgan
    Salah - Mahrez - Son - Gross - Cook
    Lukaku - Auba - Barnes

Mustafi to Christensen or Smalling just before GW34. Schmiechel to a 3.9 keeper after BB, would help to fund Auba or Lukaku to Kane.

Some tough calls on the WC this week and not easy looking forward over (effectively) 4 games to the end of 34 and projecting the team to 37

Very good. Starting XI identical to mine except Vardy for Firmino & Monreal for Mustafi.

It's alright. Obviously extremely template and I think Vardy is actually a bad pick.

It's nice and solid and should see you through nicely to the end of the season with a few rises.

Is this a viable reason to keep Firmino on WC : He would cost 0.6 more in FH 35 If I sold him

maybe , but a better reason to keep him is he is the 3rd highest scoring forward in the game with some decent fixtures ahead of him to score more points

not really.. I don't think price would be a problem in gw35 with your free hit when you can get a cheap bench, it will more be about picking the right players

    How about this team?
    DDG,Ryan
    Mee Tarkowski Christensen Bailly Morgan
    Salah Son Mahrez Willian King
    Firmino Vardy Lukaku

King is the big sacrifice even though I have BB 34

I don't think gudmundsson worth money over King in my case as king has dgw 37

So lacazette is back. Everyone is coming back now. They had better chill out a bit.I actually think auba owners should not be worried about auba not starting but they can be worried about the minutes hahaha

i've watched alot of Arsenal games this year and Laca's overall play has been better than Auba's so far , the one thing Laca has been poor at though is scoring enough goals particularly with some of the chances he gets , so i think Auba is safe from getting dropped for now 😆

Yes but can be substituted 😉 "minutes" could be an issue now.

i won't mind if he gets subbed after 75 + minutes after scoring 2 or 3 goals 😆

I will mind as I will need him to play the last 15 and added time who knows if he could bag another brace :D. Every point is vital now

Laca to get a run out in Europa - no change for Auba in PL really

Unfortunately I don't have a wc left will be taking a -4 hit for the next two gws to setup gw34 and potentially gw 37 teams..

Is Ibe to gross worth a -4 hit this week? or should I do it in gw 34?

In your situation I'd be tempted to keep Ibe as he plays twice in 34 albeit against tough opposition

Yeah I'd only be taking Marriappa onto a wildcard if I didn't have a FH. I'd also do Mustafi to Smalling

Not too keen on Watford defenders myself. They have just been so inconsistent this year. I would look for opportunity to change him.
Dunno how much funds you have, but a Man U defender is allways good. Smalling?
