Our series of members’ Monitor articles on Wildcard targets continues this evening with a look at Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea.

As has been the case for almost the entirety of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, the Spaniard sits on top of the positional rankings and is the most owned goalkeeper overall.

However, despite that, De Gea has rarely featured at the summit of our Watchlist rankings until this point, with his two double Gameweeks and kind schedule now a major factor.

De Gea has accumulated 144 FPL points, six points clear of his nearest challenger (Manchester City’s Ederson), while an average of 4.8 points per match (ppm) is bettered only by Burnley’s Nick Pope (4.9ppm).

Amazingly, De Gea is now just five points short of Tom Heaton’s league-leading 149-point haul recorded last season – despite the United keeper still having eight matches left to play.

More impressively, should he maintain his current per-game averages, De Gea even looks poised to break Joe Hart’s single-season record of 166 points recorded in 2011/12 – when the City keeper combined 17 shutouts with 99 saves.

On the basis of these numbers, it would seem impossible to argue that anybody but De Gea belongs between the sticks of in our squads over the final eight Gameweeks.

Digging deeper into the keeper’s numbers, however, highlights a surprising decline in output.

Doubt it. He was poor for Columbia the other night apparently. Hopefully he can get them knocked out of Europe pretty sharpish.

Hows it looking? 0.3ITB, not sure what else to do (on WC)
    DDG Fabianski
    Otamendi Robertson Mee vdH Morgan
    Salah Mahrez Son Willian Dilva
    Auba Firmino Barnes

Thinking of getting in Lingard/someone for willian or dilva?

    Fill in blanks****
    A Vertonghen Vardy
    B Firmino Mustafi

On B as Firmino done so well for me this season, I have no FH and both he and Mustafi have week 35 games. Overall all 4 have Sane number of games (4) between weeks 32 and 35 and think Firmino could well out score Vardy.

But Vertonghen Vardy popular here tonight

    De Gea Ryan
    Alonso Smalling Lowton Morgan ****
    Salah Son Willian Mahrez Groß
    Aubameyang Barnes ****

Murray Gud v Barnes Gross is really tricky... Murray’s next 2 home fixtures with Brighton needing points to guarantee safety shouldn’t be underestimated! May have already payed his way via points returns by the time DGW34 comes round, at which time 4 points will be his final farewell

Is anyone considering Charlie Austin instead of Murray?

Austin has a much better second double GW than Murray and has 5 goals in his 5 starts this season and 1 off the bench.

I know it's a bit of a risk as he is only back from injury but it's a calculated one.

Robertson to Newcastle, or even Swansea? Firmino to Vardy would be the other obvious one.

Firmino plays 35 and he doesn't have a FH.

I am considering Robertson to TAA. Robertson is rotation risk already and TAA should be nailed for this gw. Then bench 33 and ditch for 34.

Walcott owner who was hoping to transfer him out this week but the budget doesn't allow for my intended targets. So, is the following move wise:

Sterling and Wilson out for Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang for -4?

No don't get Mkhi, he'll probably be rotated around Europa league.

Mkhi will be rotated as TIMBO mentioned, Groß is another option depending on rest of your midfield.

All chips available. What do you do and why?

    a) WC in 32/33, BB/TC in 34, FH in 35, BB/TC in 37
    b) FH in 34, WC in 36, BB in 37, TC in 35/38

GW37 is too far ahead to plan for a strong BB, rotation will be a nightmare if teams don't have much to play for and would wanna rest for UCL or FA cup..

Not saying there will be no rotation in GW34, but it would be on a much lower scale than in GW37..

Rotation thing totally makes sense. But if you WC now, are you not trying to gear up for both doubles? If the best DGW37 players are highly likely to change between then and now, wouldn’t it be better to WC later?

Fair point - with a shit team you have to get rid. I think perhaps my team is strong enough to cope in 32 and 33 without wildcarding. What do you think?

        Cech | Speroni
        Otamendi | Mariappa | Dunk | Simpson | Bauer
        Salah | Mane | Sterling | Walcott | Son
        Auba | Firmino | Mounie

I’ll likely transfer Walcott out in 33 for Ramsey and Mounie out in 35 if I go for option B...
