Our series of members’ Monitor articles on Wildcard targets continues this evening with a look at Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea.

As has been the case for almost the entirety of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, the Spaniard sits on top of the positional rankings and is the most owned goalkeeper overall.

However, despite that, De Gea has rarely featured at the summit of our Watchlist rankings until this point, with his two double Gameweeks and kind schedule now a major factor.

De Gea has accumulated 144 FPL points, six points clear of his nearest challenger (Manchester City’s Ederson), while an average of 4.8 points per match (ppm) is bettered only by Burnley’s Nick Pope (4.9ppm).

Amazingly, De Gea is now just five points short of Tom Heaton’s league-leading 149-point haul recorded last season – despite the United keeper still having eight matches left to play.

More impressively, should he maintain his current per-game averages, De Gea even looks poised to break Joe Hart’s single-season record of 166 points recorded in 2011/12 – when the City keeper combined 17 shutouts with 99 saves.

On the basis of these numbers, it would seem impossible to argue that anybody but De Gea belongs between the sticks of in our squads over the final eight Gameweeks.

Digging deeper into the keeper’s numbers, however, highlights a surprising decline in output.

Anyone handing Mahrez or Vardy the TC in GW34 and saving the BB to 37?

Dont think so. The Kane TC is too much of a lure.

That's riding on Kane being back and firing though... he didn't return well from injury for his backers in gameweek 22...

          True that.

GW22 was different, he was ill.

By 37 we will know how hes playing hopefully. If not theres other options which are no worse than the ones in GW34.

Could even go for a City player!

That's very true. It's a hard choice, bench boost in (potentially) a week with better fixtures in 37 or TC in that week with Kane...

I may go just stick it on salah one day!

I got settled 34 wc team(gross stanislas vardy kaku) but auba lure is maybe too strong, so:

    gross stanislas
    auba lukaku

    save33

34 if kane is fit, auba kaku for vardy and kane
if not, auba stanislas for vardy and son

If I don't change anything I would have 2ft for nothing/injurys/kane and no auba
If I change I have auba and 2ft for kane vardy and hope there are no injurys

    Firmino aubameyang Wilson

Please don't judge my terrible team as my wildcard is long gone sorting out an equally terrible team back in gameweek 22...
Currently 7 players with a double in 34 and in 37.. should I give myself more time to assemble my squad for 37?

    Free hit gone also...

      I won't judge - you're FHC might have been a raging success.

Do you have the TC left? If so, then Andy made a good point earlier about Kane potentially being back for Spurs' double. In that case, it might make more sense to BB in 34 and TC in 37.

If your TC has been used already, then I'd prepare for GW34 and BGW35 then BB in 37.

Willian looks like the fall guy for me so I have a Kane strategy.

Midfield of Salah, Mahrez, Mkhitaryan, Gross, Gudmundsson
    Aubameyang, Vardy, Barnes

    £2.7m in the bank.

GW 34 is either Mkhi and Auba to 1. Son and Kane (if Kane fit) 2. Son and Lukaku.

FH 35 then enough money left for Lukaku to Kane in 36.

If cash is no issue get Gross, your man is too punty as Mahrez & Vardy dominate. It's like getting Valencia over Bailly, wasted cash but could still reward in that way these things oft do.

Lots of ye guys spend a lot of time in front of a monitor and i am in the market for one to complement a new gaming/workstation pc i am building.

Can any of ye make a good recommendation please?

Don't spend crazy money; get the best bang for your buck. Technology moves on so quickly you'll be wanting to replace it in 4 years.

I would not mind parting with the cash that much if i could get a monitor that ticks all the boxes.I would feel worse if i spent money on something that i did really like.

If i got 5 years out of a monitor i would be happy enough but for the money that they are making i would have to be sure and noting i have seen so far has blown me away.

I've got a DELL U2415 which is pretty long in the tooth now. I use it for work with a macbook, and it's no frills but very uniform; there's no uneven lighting, it's almost like the paper ink displays with it's matte finish. The only downside is the black performance, but then it is an IPS display, so that isn't the priority.

I guess you'll be wanting a 4k display with a fast refresh rate.

That looks like a great monitor for work i just watched a review for it but yeah the high input lag would be a deal breaker for me.

The ones that have come close to what i am looking for are Alienware AW3418DW and ASUS PG348Q but they are not 4k and have some other drawbacks and for the money that i would have to part with i am not that convinced.

I have both on my WC. Difficult to pick one, prefer Auba but it's an inevitable transfer to Vardy before 34. May as well get him now. I have gone for Vardy over Lukaku on my WC. Auba to Lukaku in 34 instead. Lukaku's game against City away from home doesn't look too good.

Please RMWCT. No FH chip. BB 34 and TC 37current plan.

    De Gea // Hennessey
    Robertson // Morgan // Lowton // Janmatt // Mustafi
    Salah // Son // Mahrez // Willian // Milli
    Lukaku // Aubameyang // Vardy

    - De Gea most weeks, Hennessey has Bournemouth when Man u play City and Watford in gw 35
    - Robertson, Janmatt and Mustafi only have sgw in 34 but all have great fixtures and play gw 35 and offer attacking threat
    - Template midfield with Milli gw 35
    - Arguably the gold standard front 3 through to 34

Thoughts? Besides the obvious lightness at the back? Janmatt nailed?

Without chip context it's useless. I'll assume.

It's too heavy up top mate, although cheap keepers are a value that this site ignores, persistently. They never value it properly, weird.

So get a good cheap striker and sort the defence out and keepers if you want.

So Firmino to Lukaku and Mkhi downgrade for 34?
      If so that could work.
Most would say have Auba now though.

I can afford Bailly but probably but most likely does not leave enough ITB for pre 34 moves.

Given Bailly's injury record I'd not risk the funding gap you need on him.

Nobody's mentioning Jack Stephens, this is a guy who can score, battling hard, yeah I know, but he's exactly the type who hauls in these dgw's

I don't know how fit Jones is mate, but I'm guessing Maureen likes him a bit more but I think he wants both out. Go for the one who isn't injured but don't see Christ as plan B, he's plan Z

Yeah don't know how good a pick Christensen might be.
            But 34 could be say
            DeGea Jones Lukaku
Alonso Christensen Willian which isn't too bad.
Taking the non injured Smalling now and having to move to Jones for 34 just looks like a hit waiting to happen. Thanks for replies.

I have 0.8 itb and could use this to upgrade SWA no2 GK to Ryan. But that money would be tied up in Ryan then, all for the sake of using BB in 34.
I'm wondering is it even worth the hassle and could that money be used better down the road?

Yeah, just wondering is it even worth it though and that the money might come in handy later as there is still 4 GWs inc a double after 34.

What will Ryan get you in the double and is it worth the cash ?
Can the same cash get you a better return by upgrading a player ?
Do you need to rotate your keeper - Fabs v City is not great, therefore should you get Pope instead for 34 & 35?
Is your bench even worth boosting in 34 if you have the likes of non playing keeper on it and should you strengthen it to boost in 37?

Not many are considering cheap keepers? The Members article (got to be careful here) seems to be avoiding a valuation? Yes we all know DDG is the best, but is he the best value?

    1. Hotdogs for Tea
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 8 months ago

I only consider value for my bench perhaps and higher priced players - anything else is very misleading if you are looking for an accumulation of points. Value is the vanilla of the ice cream world 🙂

      1. Netley Lucas
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 8 months ago

        So if a cheap keeper is better value you ignore? Not sure how to do that smug smiley, never used it ;}

One extreme is a team of highest value players, but that doesn’t work because you miss the highs of other players ... the nirvana of FPL. The other extreme is a ‘value’ keeper and your 11th player, which is good over a season and frees up some cash.

For the doubles and the run in, you really should be punting on players that get you the high ceiling points and not players for 4.3 mill that will get you 2.3 points a game, even though on paper it is ‘great value’ 🙂

            • 12 Years

Chances are probably high that we wont be able to afford a bench of 5m+ players unless we drop a premium spots 😮

By value on the bench I mean best value for your 4.5 etc ... although I do like the rotation of 2 starters from the 4th/5th defender and 4th/5th mid with a bit of ‘value’ in there to provide some choice 🙂

    2. JasonG123
      • 12 Years

Cheaper players will always be better value (on average) than more expensive players between the relationship between points and price of a player is not linear but logarithmic.

        • 10 Years
        7 years, 8 months ago

Maybe, but if say McCarthy is going to be more productive over DDG in the next 8 games, value, should we ignore that?

          • 10 Years

Depends where you spend the saving - and if on a premium player then the value is likely to be less than ddg ?
