FFS Cup

Fantasy Football Scout Fifth Round Draw

We’re down to the last 32 in our Fantasy Football Scout Cup tournament and can now reveal not only the victors from round four but also the fifth round draw.

As we know, Gameweek 33 was a torrid affair which produced the lowest average score (32 points) of the season so far. It also put paid to one of the two top-ranked managers remaining in the cup.

Leaf – who ranked 55 in the world prior to last weekend – took a four-point hit to record a modest 34 score. He was somewhat unfortunate to come up against ChrisVD who recorded the highest score (57) in the entire fourth round. The latter also spent points on an extra transfer but mustered a hugely impressive tally thanks to a Spurs midfield partnership of Dele Alli – as captain – and Christian Eriksen.

While Leaf toppled out, the other high-flying manager – Always Captain Kun – earned his passage to the fifth round with a 34-30 victory over Le Tigre and maintained a rank of 65th in the world. They must now be considered the early favourite to lift the trophy but must be wary of their next opponent. Norman conquest lies in wait in the last 32 and, while they are placed 46,709 in the world, they are renowned giant killers in this cup having previoulsy eliminated the 48th ranked thisisdiz in round three.

Round four’s lowest ranked manager – TD7242 (699,646) – was unable to maintain their cup run after recording a calamatous 20 points from Gameweek 33. It was a familiar tale of taking a points hit to capture and captain Harry Kane, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang their only player to score more than two points. TD7242 tumbled out to Batmaniac, who scored 33 to claim passage.

That means that jaycar25 is now the big underdog heading into the next round. They are placed 339,188 in the world and will face 2eyedTurk next; they currently place 34,464 in the overall rankings.

The fifth round will be played out over Gameweek 34, which as we know, is a Double Gameweek with many chips in play.

The full fourth round results can be found here, while the fifth round draw in full can be found here.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've had Gross for past two and frustrated he did nothing at home. Think it's even less likely he'll perform away at Palace and at home to Spurs.

It's a toss up between Alonso, Son, Willian for me I think. Alonso >> Christensen perhaps? 😯

            I'd say Austin or Son
Triple Spurs is maybe a bit too much? Love Austin but it will be a hell of a fight for Southampton

Million dollar question - Kane or Lukaku captain for double gameweek?

As much as you probably don't want to, I think the better move would be to lose one of; Alonso, Salah or Son.

          Your moves above weaken your BB drastically, so I would consider something like;

          A) Stephens, Salah/Son, Auba > Cedric, Lingard, Kane
          B) Stephens, Alonso, Auba > Cedric, 5/5.5, Kane

          1. arndff_

            > Don't agree with you because:
            1) Long could play at least one game because Mee's injured.
            2) Cedric has a DGW37.
            3) Kenedy has a good game at GW36 where I'd liek to roll my FT.

Gross isn't in form, so he and Stephens must go imo.

Last RP - then I promise I’ll stop with the numerous options and make a decision! Only 1 reply in last few tries

Are any of these tasty or crazy for BB34 (I’ll do FH35)?

    A) Auba, Firmino, Mahrez, Gros > Lukaku, Vardy, Eriksen, Mili (-8)

    B) Auba, Firmino, Mahrez, Gros > Kane, Vardy, Pogba , Mili (-8)

    C) Auba, Firmino, Gros, Alonso > Lukaku, Kane, Cork, Chilwell (-8)

    D) Auba, Firmino, Gros > Lukaku, Vardy, Mili (-4) (Gros to Mili is an enabler)

    Current team:
    2FT £0.7itb:

    DDG, Ryan
    Alonso, Vertonghen, Morgan, Lowton, Mustafi
    Salah, Mahrez, Son, Willian, Gros

With 32 players playing anything less than 120 is a fail. It is of course relative to other scores but I’d be happy with around 160. Above 200 is magic

        Current nr. 1 overall: 2182pts

2182/33=66,12pts pr gw with presumably an average of close to 12 players.

        32/12= 2,67

        66,12*2,67= 176,5

Maybe the threshold where youd be happy could be lowered a tiny bit?

Ryan - realistic 4-6 but hopeful of 8+
Dunk - realistic 2-4 hopeful of a clean sheet or a goal against Palace
Lowton - realistic 2-4, hopeful of a clean sheet Iran assist against Southampton
Barnes - realistic 4, hopeful of double figures with a goal or two against an out of sorts chelsea and Southampton.

Not sure "what does your bench look like" is the metric we should be looking at - with BB you are effectively picking a 15 man team instead of 11 so there is no bench - wouldn't we expect your 4 "worst" players in a BB week to ordinarily be better than your 4 "worst" players (i.e. your bench) in a non-BB week, as in a non-BB week you aren't picking these players to score points. If any of this makes any sense!!! 🙂

I was thinking about this too, you do have to think about it to decide whether it's a viable option for the week surely?

The guy above saying Salah would be on his bench, he realistically must be a better option with one game than some of the doublers.

Otherwise you'd say my bench is Salah, Kane, Mahrez and Willian and I'm playing 5-4-1.

You have to compare the four 'worst' to what would be your four 'worst ' in 37 for example.

This might not make sense either...

The HT question is directed at those BBing this week - whether you do this or not is a different question!

See the below post though, you can't legitimately say your BB is DDG + 3 Chelsea, otherwise you're exaggerating its success?

              I wasn't! Please don't associate me with Legomane! 😉

I think you are right though in terms of the success is exaggerated if you are just looking at the number of points your 4 "worst" players score as these players are likely to be more expensive than a bench a non-BB'er has, and therefore the value of your other 11 players against the value of an 11 for someone not BBing is likely to be less, so even though it appears you are gaining quite a few points from these "bench" players, it is likely this is offset slightly by having a weaker other 11.

I agree. I'm on a free hit and so maximising my 11. Gives me a current bench of:

                Nordfeldt, Stankovic,, Rosenoir, Campbell.

                😀

You basicly have to set up your team as if you were not using BB. The points you get from your "bench" players is what you get from your BB.

I disagree to an extent - I think it is unlikely you would have the same first XI if you were not playing BB compared to if you were as you would likely invest more in your first XI than your bench.

I actually dont think this is the case. Most of the teams playing BB34 with 32 players seem to have picked almost only fodder with maybe Ryan, Lowton, Chilwell, Barnes being the template?

            4.6+4.4+4.4+5.4= 18.8

An average of 4.7? How much cheaper could you possibly go and still have semi-assured dgwstarters?

Compared to nondgw benchfodder it's not far off either.
Maybe one could strech it and say you had a bench like:
Hart-Mariappa-Masuaku-King (16.8) but would you honestly have gone this cheap on your bench if the BB wasn't in play?

This is the correct way of looking at it. Bench boost points are a reflection of the players you wouldn't usually play in a gameweek, we play it in double gameweeks because our benched players have a higher probability of scoring good points. The notion of bench boost giving you 32 players is only partially true and confuses most players as to its true value, and even encourages people to deprioritise form single gameweek players

got 16 pts as part of 174pts DGW37 last year (thanks Gabbi!!)
So focus is always on starting XI.
Means (barring a mishap tonight) Salah's on my bench so would like to think could rustle up 20pts which is a decent score.
Still may well stick with a couple of SGW players who have decent fixtures GW36 so that I can maximize transfers going into 2nd DGW.

Hennessy-Tarkowski-Matic-Dummet// They scored 8 points total last week. With 6 comparable fixtures this week that translates to 12 points as a B.B. I’d take that tbh but more would be v welcome. Hopefully nobody comes down with an injury and my first-11 all play.

      At the moment mine is:

      Ryan, Lowton, Lewis Cook, Fernandez

      So expecting 5, 4, 4, 2 = 15 points.

I don't think its a particularly good set of fixtures for a bench boost to be honest. Not the right combination of teams with cheap assets with good fixtures. The way to maximise it would have bent my squad structure out of shape aswell, which I wasn't prepared to do.

only 2 dgw'rs but they all play in 35 too which i need as i've already used my free hit , assuming Pope keeps his place , the 2 Burnley have a chance of a clean sheet like always , as do the 2 Watford lads away to Hudds , i could get attacking returns from both in that game too so i could actually get a decent score from this BB if everything goes to plan , or it could be a disaster 😆

I think Salah has to go now. Specially with those who plan to free hit in 35.
    Here are my reasons:

    1. Liverpool likely to proceed in CL leading to rotation since they have more or less secured top 4
    2. With free hit you can have him in 35 if you want to. More expensive but pretty sure it can be easily done.
    3. CL semifinals just before and just after GW 36 so there will always be a question whether he will play or not. Especially with the injury he picked up vs City
    4. No double in GW37 and the one game is against Chelsea

He’s more likely to play this gameweek than GW35 based on the rotation theory. Also Chelsea isn’t a tough fixture at the moment with their leaky defence.

After such a low-scoring weekend - do you utilize the DGW to ensure a higher probability of picking up points by hedging across the fixtures?

E.g. - If you have Willian and Vahrez in your WC team - possibly pick up Cedric to cover any lack of attacking returns?

I remember this worked well with having Lee Grant for Stoke last season against Man City in the DGW when we all captained Sergio.

Hedging or sticking to the template keeps you closer to the mean.
Trying to pick winners or diverging from the template gets you either bigger gains or bigger losses.

      1) Will our approach to the blanks and doubles change next season? In the build-up to the blanks many missed out on in form players such as Mahrez who got two double digit hauls before GW31. Milivojevic will have been dumped in many recent wildcards as he doesn’t have a DGW, but has returned 19 points over the last 2 GWs.

      2) Will Mo Salah sellers be cursing the images of him back in training, or does it make sense to cash out now and spread the funds? (Assuming they have progressed and will miss games due to Champions League semi-finals)

      3) 8 GWs before Jonty brings in Alonso – 67 Points
8GW after Jonty brings in Alonso – 9 Points

Has Jonty cursed Alonso and if so could he please sell him? 😉

but fa cup semi surely put a dent in their appeal, but Willian could still be a good option as Hazard the one you would expect to suffer from rotation?

Yes, as long as the single Gameweekers are good. Bench boosters will be going into this with 14-15 DGWKers.

      1) Which Chelsea, Manchester United, Spurs and Southampton players are more likely to be rotated due to the FA Cup semi-final? To counter the threat of rotation, should we target double gameweek teams who are out of the FA Cup?

      2) Will Mourinho let the horses run free against two teams with bad defences? Will Pogba be unshackled?

      3) Is it a masterstroke to free hit in 34?

      4) Has the GW32 wildcard template sprung multiple leaks and has it been completely exposed?

      5) Will the golden boot race make Kane try harder than in previous games?

      6) Is Sanchez a must for this gameweek?

City assets is the big one for me! After the DGW should we be getting a couple of them in (especially in the likely event that they'll be knocked out of UCL)?
Rotation/reduced minutes aside, they could score bags full in those five remaining games, especially DGW37.

If it is on your mind already, who is on the chopping block in your team?
For me it's Hazard & Mahrez who would likely make way.

The captaincy decision in a DGW is the most important decision. Who is the best captaincy option - Kane, Lukaku or Sanchez?

This decision has a lot of potential knock on impacts: if Kane is the best captain (and I assume all the scouts now have him in their teams), is having one of Lukaku/Sanchez in their teams aswell essential, or can they be avoided entirely?

If Sanchez is the best captain, then which player should make way for him in our teams, and how many hits to make this happen is acceptable?

Utd attacking options - really worth it?
We can all the fixtures but it's still a Jose side that really hasn't looked like spanking anyone.

Sanchez is still a lot of money.

Yep. He is expensive. Getting Sanchez over Lukaku may mean downgrading someone like Alonso or Willian. Is it worth it?

And if you have many premium players the cost of getting likes of Kane and Sanchez may cost two premium defenders or middle priced mids. Hardly worth it?

Christensen, Alonso, & the conundrum of the Chelsea defense. With 2 tantalising fixtures, do those of us without Chelsea defenders still get them in. The risk of rotation and a lack of cleansheets muddy their waters quiet a bit.

Do those of us without a WC or Free Hit chip need to treat 34/35 almost as a single week? The temptation is to pack in the DGWers in 34 but that leaves us light of 35 players without further hits. However for example someone like Walcott who would normally be binned has two decent fixtures over that period.

In weeks 25- 33 Alonso has scored
      1,0,0,1,2,2,1,2

Is it time to get rid and spread the funds in attack for double week ? Alonso could be rested away to Burnley pre FA cup semi anyway. For example allows Kane and Lukaku up front and keep Son rather than having to get rid of him for 6m midfielder.

For those of us unable to field Lukaku-Kane-Vardy for the DGW (hits and lots of surgery notwithstanding), rather than downgrading Son to Lingard and bringing in Kane, should we really be UPGRADING midfield and getting in Sanchez rather than Kane/Lukaku given the current form of Sanchez vs a steady eddie but unspectacular Lukaku and a Kane who might well need a couple more games to regain sharpness and who is a potential rotation risk with the FA Cup semi-final looming?

      3) are there any good premium defensive options below 5.8 worth investing(like Smalling, Bertrand, Cedric, Rudiger, christensen).
      4) are Kane and lukaku (nailed players) 100% nailed for starts in both dgw games since both teams are 99% qualified for ucl next year and this goes with any other asset having fa Cup matches
      5) with Southampton in dire state for wins having 2 dgws is it time to get them (like mcarthy, Cedric, bertrqnd, austin) as we can assure them of 100% starts or completely ignore them as they have been crap

      1) Is Lingard (J-Lings) a viable option for saving money for the likes of Kane?
      2) Is Kane sufficient Tot coverage?

Given the last two weeks have been pretty poor for the upcoming DGW players, have your expectations for GW34 been lowered? Has it give you any doubts that maybe GW37 could prove better with a better quality of players available?

For me, I currently own Jack Stephens, Salah and Aubameyang. I don't own Lukaku but planned on getting him this week as part of a hit. I will now require several hits to go with 14/15 doubles. I'm now seriously considering delaying my bench boost to GW37.

For those planning to BB in week 34 with no FH or WC for 35 what one piece of advice would you give them in considering transfers pre week 34?

I asked this same question - I'm balancing my team for both 34 and 35, and the popular response is BB in 37 as plenty more teams with DGW so more nailed options plus no blanks after to worry about. Go for TC in 34 instead if you have it

Best free hit team for 34 with the cheapest bench available (3.9, 3.9, 3.9, 4.2)

Do you think people are overrating spurs midfielders as potential Salah replacements when despite having two DGWs their situation is very similar to Liverpool’s; i.e. being more interested in a cup competition with a squad that is good enough to allow for lots of rotation?

Eriksen has shown himself to be generally more rotation proof. I would worry about the others - less about Alli, more about son

What happens if Harry Kane's appeal for the goal succeeds? Does it change the FPL scoring and bonus, or is that final?

      TC in GW 34;

      A) Mahrez (Bur, SOT) - guaranteed minutes, consistent. Nothing much to play for.

      B) Lukaku (WBR, Bou) - should play both games, consistent. Not very explosive. FA Cup rotation?

      C) Hazard (Sou, Bur) - lots to play for, inconsistent. Both away games. Explosive.

Do the FFS team feel forced almost into playing the BB in 34 now , driven by the TC option better in 37 , playing of the WC in 32 and lack of many other viable options

having set up for BB 34 is this the right way still and how can this be undone if you have all chips other than WC still?

Sanchez seems to be a popular pick this week. I have him and I’m seriously considering captaining him as I’m chasing a 50 point lead.

However with the FA Cup a few days after Bournemouth and very capable replacements in Rashford, Mata and Martial, will Jose “make a point” about the Man Utd game being closer to the Semi than for Spurs by resting the likes of Alexis?

1, Are we overlooking the "weaker" DGW teams. With the expected rotation pre FA cup, could Burnley do a number on a weakened Chelsea team and to a lesser extent Bournemouth vs Utd and Brighton Vs Spurs.
2, Again with rotation in mind are the likes of Matic and Kantè viable enablers with more chance of guaranteed minutes?

In previous season DGWs I have often gone heavy on defenders rather than attackers with pretty good success, BAE (C) stands out. This is because defenders can have quite a high and reliable upturn whereas attackers are as unreliable as ever and can be outscored by SGW players.

Yet why when I look at these fixtures do I see few decent options? Valencia might be the only nailed defender with decent fixtures. It just seems depressing.

Is sacrificing Salah worth it? Take for example downgrading him to pogba and upgrading auba to kane. On the face of it, you will add a single extra game to your team but if Liverpool go through, might Salah get rested for Champions League especially with top 4 wrapped up?

Utd has the best DGW34 fixtures. Is it better to triple up on attack or get de Gea plus two attackers.

Lukaku, Sanchez and Lingard/Pogba or DDG

    anything for a hit chaps?

    Lloris
    Smalling - Maguire - Robertson
    Mahrez - Alli - Willian - Mili
    Kane(c) - Lukaku - Vardy

Bench: Elliot - Keane - Mcarthur - Kenny

    A) Play Robertson
    B) Rudiger (-4)
    C) Someone else (-4)

    DDG Ryan
    Alonso - *Mustafi - Cedric - Lowton - Morgan
    Salah - Mahrez - Son - Willian - *Groß
    Lukaku - *Auba - Barnes

So Mustafi/Auba/Groß out for -4 to fund Kane.

9.1M to get a mid and a def now.

Any combo comes to mind for that price?

    Thanks all.

A few options I looked at. Nothing stands out for me. On A atm.

      A Stephens & Tarkowski (or 4.6M)
      B Young & Kiko/Tomkins (or 4.3M)
      C Hojbjerg & Ward (or 4.8M)
D Milivojevic & Long (if Mee is still out)
      E Cork & Tarkowski
      F Kenedy & Kiko/Tomkins/Chilwell

          I would go Chilwell & Cork/Westwood. Westwood at 4.3 taking some set-pieces with Gudmundsson out. L. Cook also a fodder-option at 4.3 if you want a Burnley-def.

as a gudmunsson buyer on WC i'm very concerned.
If he's back will he go straight to lineup? he can be eased back, or with this "rest" he might play the 180'.

I'm selling for Arnie if nothing bigger comes up until Friday
