Theo Walcott strikes to secure an Everton victory and end Newcastle United’s run of wins, as Fantasy managers benefit from defensive returns.

Walcott converted a Yannick Bolasie cross at the second attempt, mis-controlling initially before seeing the ball ricochet back to him via DeAndre Yedlin.

It marked only the second match in which Walcott has found the net for the Toffees following a brace back in Gameweek 25.

A run of just one assist in nine Gameweeks has understandably seen Walcott decline and stall as a Fantasy attraction – he went into Monday’s encounter owned by just 169,000+ managers.

Some 8,900 of those had the foresight to bring in the winger with their Free Hit; it meant that Walcott was found in just 5.7% of squads built with that chip for Gameweek 35.

There faith in Everton’s defence was stronger.

A quiet night for Pickford

Having kept two clean sheets in the previous three at home before last night’s shut-out, the Magpies’ visit provided enough incentive for significant Free Hit investment.

Jordan Pickford was signed by 40,000+ managers before Saturday’s deadline, second only to Ederson among FPL goalkeepers.

But another 40,000 also acquired the keeper with their Free Hit, meaning that he was found in 26.1% of the chip’s squads.

Ironically, Pickford had a restful evening and was called upon to make just two saves; it’s only the second time in nine Gameweeks that he has failed to produce a save point.

As a result, the bonus points went elsewhere, with Michael Keane and Leighton Baines the chief benefactors.

Keane was a major differential in the Toffees backline. He earned the maximum bonus but was limited to an eight-point return following a booking. The centre-back was part of just 307,000 squads, which included 7,000 Free Hit managers.

Baines was a far more popular target.

Some 18,000 used a Gameweek transfer on the full-back, while another 41,000 acquired him with the Free Hit. Like Keane, he delivered eight points on the night.

Everton’s assets are now set to fade from view in Fantasy terms. While their fixtures are strong (hud SOU whu), they offer no Double Gameweek and continue to be erratic as a source of both defensive and attacking returns.

Magpies fail the chipless

While a good proportion of Free Hit managers benefited from the Everton clean sheet, those without the chip active who invested in Newcastle’s budget assets were left empty-handed.

Striker Ayoze Perez was brought in by 136,000 ahead of Gameweek 35, making him the eighth most signed player.

That investment followed a run of three goals and two assists from his last three starts.

But despite firing five shots on goal, Perez blanked, along with budget midfielder Kenedy, who was acquired by another 13,000 managers prior to the deadline.

Walcott’s goal also denied the clean sheet, as those holding keeper Martin Dubravka and full-back Paul Dummett were disappointed.

But unlike Everton, there is still some life in Newcastle’ Fantasy appeal.

They face a home fixture with a resurgent West Brom in Gameweek 36, before two fixtures in Gameweek 37 as they travel to Watford and Spurs.

Neither of those fixtures scream big returns, though Dummett and Kenedy will likely be retained and recruited as cut-price options – particularly by late Bench Boosters – for the double-header.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Amazing how FPL goes and how you must be persistent. I spent from GW23-33 consolidating between 30k-40k (except 1 week) and then all of a sudden I've cut that rank to 17k. Just shows that persistence and no stupid rash moves, and playing dullard comes good eventually.

17points off 10k which was the goal. TC still to go!

    Anyone with a similar story?

Every season i try to do some clever moves, -16 hit for BB last week and a lot of others. At the end I always play dullard and jump into 50k.
But, I always hope, that one time that risk will be rewarded.

      GW18 (127k) bobbing around for 10 weeks until GW28 (125k).

7 good greens in a row and now at 6,587. Only TC to go so expect to drop a bit against WC36/BB37 folks.

Impressive stuff! Just shows though how it can change in a short period of time! I think the TC could keep you level with the BB37, They will still have a bench of cheapies like the GW34 folks did and the 34 folks did pretty good. Will be interesting

        1. Chocolate's Melting
          • 9 Years

It will. Think Swansea cheapies look good for BB37, but considerable potential rotation around for big teams.

BB 37 = Waste of space as so much rotation all will in effect BB (in my opinion). More important to have a strong bench than anything else for that week. TC could be just as effective with either Kane or Jesus/Sterling, but Kane more likely to play both.

I have taken several -12's over the last few weeks. Just about kept pace in ML's which I am chasing down a 60 point lead. Although could have gone considerably better and luck was against again, at least I am all set for the run in.

That Mci double is mighty tempting but I think I'll be playing it (relatively) safe with Kane. Sterling could easily play one and be benched for the other, Kane should play both and we all know he's still going for the golden boot so he should be nice and greedy. Slightly concerned by form but hopefully he picks up against Watford this weekend.

Biggest one has to be Man City.

Those on wildcard - who is least likely to be rotated

Those who wildcarded in 32/33 - which dead wood needs to go? Are hits worth it this week? Or can the likes of Mahrez, Willian, Son and Vardy be trusted for one more week? What about price rises (we already missed loads on FH)

This. Most important question for me.

For GW32 and GW33 WCers, still feels as if GW36 is a critical one. Will Liverpool, City and Arsenal punish those with Alonso (banned), Maguire, Morgan, Chilwell, Willian, Son, Mahrez, Vardy, Lingard, Gross, Brighton defence and Burnley defence?

What are the best differential's for the rest of the season? While making room for those essential players (City), you might find yourself having to downgrade somewhere.

Is it too late to bring in Milivojevic for example, with his next matches - or are DGW players a must?

Free Hitters without City assets what would be your moves for this gameweek? While Pep will juggle his starting elevens there are definitely potential hauls available, especially in the dgw37 against Huddersfield and Brighton. Leicester stalwarts like Vardy and Mahrez could be potential fall guys for Sterling and Jesus.

      2. Which relegation scrappers should we be looking at for a late punt at the end of the season?
      3. With the golden boot almost certainly going to Salah do we think Kane will give up when we most need him?

Please don't forget GW36 wildcarders tonight! Dont neglect us, I beseech you! Apart from a token hot topic, we've had very little from the site. The help and advice certainly pales in insignificance when compared to everything that was published for those wildcarding in the Mahrez-Son-Gross-Willian template in 32.

It's basically the same template, instead of Burnley and Brighton you go for Newcastle and Swansea. I've got Fabianski, Fernandez, Dummett and Kenedy as my bench boost. City instead of United and Chelsea as it was for 34.

I wc 32 for a FH 34 and BB 37, team is looking good.

      1) Chelsea issue. What to do with Hazard, Willian and Alonso ??
Hazard to Salah (c) for -4 or hide behind the sofa with Kane (c).

      2) Austin ?? Hughes needs goals and he is benching a proven striker in PL.

      1) Alonso surely has to go now Emerson has come in and done well, there's a real possibility he doesn't start both DGW37 matches now. This at a time when funds need to be released to dine out on City assets.

Who are the optimum City assets?

      Jesus and Sterling?

Or do we go for a third? David Silva or KDB depending on funds?

      2) What are your early thoughts on DGW37 captaincy? Jesus very likely to start 2 home games against Huddersfield and Brighton is surely too much for Triple Captainers to resist?

      Hazard:
Was that superb performance a sign of him and CHE finishing the season on a high rather than just going through the motions? I like the fact that there looks to be real aggressive competition between Giroud & Morata now for the striker spot also!
      Mili:
Is he the ideal fifth mid now despite the lack of a DGW and why is he not in more FFS poster's teams?
I mean he has it all, on pens, on set pieces, has recently added assists to his game and has a cracker of a long range shot on him! And the price, good lord the value he has shown thus far!
      Auba;
Is he actually benchable for this trip to OT. I know MUN haven't exactly been rock solid but surely Wenger fields an understrength team? I'm strongly considering benching him for Barnes this week (but when I say it out load it sounds a bit silly haha).

Is the "template" midfield breakable? Many sides have 4 mids in the 6-8.5m bracket + Salah. Releasing funds for upgrades is going to cost more than a few transfers.
Is it worth holding Kane just to cover the large number of Kane TCs in GW37? (due to the funds he is taking up in many sides without TC)

      Question about Manchester City assets...

Having seen usual first teamers Sané, Walker and Otamendi get benched against Swansea, can we assume those guys have had their rest and will be a mainstay in the City line up for the run-in? I’m speaking as someone who can’t get Jesus or Sterling as my ML rival who I’m chasing has them both.

Nowhere in the discussions regarding rotation at the run-in have I seen a mention of the home fans' desire to see their favorite players on the pitch. Are teams with little left to play for more likely to rotate when away and play the A-team at home? If so, doesn't that make Sterling, Silva, Sane, etc. likely to get 2 games in GW 37?

Like many others... what to do about Man City for the run-in... they were my GW35 FH stars but I only have Sterling in my GW36 lineup.

If chasing in mini leagues, are City players worth a gamble vs. nailed-on DGW starters for less-explosive teams (Spurs, Man United)?

Auba vs. Laca for GW 37-38 or steer clear with Kane/Lukaku/Vardy nailed on (and Jesus maybe nailed on)?

Does data on previous years confirm the conventional wisdom that FPL stats drop-off for stars of teams with little left to play for (no chance for Europe, safe from relegation)?

      Thanks Jonty!

Watched this last night. Wenger detested fergie and vice versa in the early 00's, shows in this documentary.

70 points behind rival. Was 120 two GWs ago. So he just wildcarded and there's no way he can get Kane in this GW without major surgery. He has BB left, I have TC. Should I punt on Kane (TC) this GW?

My thinking is that if Kane gets at least a brace this GW then he'll get him in for sure for the DGW. I would still have TC over his C for 37 but that doesn't sound as significant as TC'ing a player that he doesn't even own this GW. Kane hasn't looked sharp but he still has 9 days between games to fully recover, plus he has destroyed Watford before.

What if Kane blanks this GW and hauls in the double D:

Then he might not get Kane in at all whilst I still would captain.

I wouldn't. If kane does well and he gets him and TC him in 37 you ll have no chance.

It's funny that I'm even considering given it to the bloke that has single-handedly ruined my season. Got rid before GW4 and then he responded with 3-4 braces in the next 5 games. Then captained him for all his blanks in the autumn before selling right before his two hat-tricks. Then got him in for a hit for the first DGW, and captained him for most GWs since. He only has one double digit haul since Christmas!

Wish I'd never got Kane back in. Sold Salah to afford him, like a moron, and didn't even benefit from his pretend goal.

Mad to TC Kane in Gw36. Do it in GW37. U r not gonna catch up on 70 pts in 3 weeks.

Credit to @MTPockets but I had never seen this one before (usually use FFFix and Gargatron only):

Not the prettiest but it's got a ton of data!

Depressing the number of points I've missed out on - one of my favourites was that my points from GK would have been 50% higher if I had made the right decision every week - lol!

you can't make the right decisions every time unless you're coming from the future. Otherwise, a good percentage for captains is:
Total Captain Points as % of overall score : 26.69%. What's yours?

No of course not I was mostly pointing out how amusing the "GK points benched" was - GK is the one you usually expect to get right.

My Total Captain points as % of overall score is: 27.02%

Agree. I missed the gk 5 times.

Good score for the captain points! last year I had it under 20% and was decisive for my final rank.

Trouble is I am going into dangerous territory now after a great climb in OR - I'm up to 19k but have no chips left so there'll be a lot of sofa hiding! I won't be able to catch my main ML rival - he's 74 points ahead and still has TC!

            How's your run in looking?

The same as yours in some aspects. On 19k, but still have TC for GW37. Second on my ML, 35 points behind leader, so few chances to catch him.

Salah captained 11 times avg 22.5pts

Happy post rather than humble brag incoming...

Ended up with 69 points on my FH thanks to Baines lovely 8 pts last night. Highest OR of the season @ 4.3K. Have never finished in the Top 10K (3 times just outside 🙁 ) so fingers crossed I can this season although I have no chips left.

Got 68 on the FH. Pretty happy with that. Just wish i still had Sterling in my team. Would have to do a -4 to get him in.

I had Sterling and Jesus alright but went Sane as my 3rd attacker which is well annoying conidering KDB Bilva and Dilva all did well. That cost me some pts as had Crouch come off the bench.

Funnily enough I ended up with Crouch as I downgraded Barnes to upgrade Monreal to Bellerin. More pts thrown away

Yeah Bellerin was a mistake. If i'd gone with my gut, then i would have picked Monreal. Didn't believe the Mustafi hype either.

Initially had Monreal in my draft but switched to Bellerin after listening to the scoutcast. Only myself to blame as I had Arnie as well but went with Mane after the leaked Lpool lineup came out. We'll move on eh.

    My actual team is:
    DDG - Fabianski
    Robertson - Smalling - Tark - Chilwell - Naughton
    Salah-Son-Sterling-Willian-McArthur
    Kane - Jesus - Barnes.

    GW36:

    DDG
    Smalling - Robertson - Tark
    Salah - Son - Sterling - Willian
    Kanes - Jesus - Barnes

bench: Fabianski - chilwell - naughton - McArthur

No Trasfer needs (maybe), but my doubts:

    Capitan --> Salah - Sterling - Kane?
    DDG or Fabianski?

GW37: i can 3 FT with -4 to replace barnes with lukaku, cut willian son or willian salah? for who?

Cedric Alonso Willian sterling Jesus in a 442 (-4)

9th consecutive green arrow. From 800k to 86k.

That's a solid climb up the OR - well played!

Mine was more modest - from 75k OR to 19k in 5 weeks

      Still have TC for DGW37?

Also well played, easier to climb the ranks where I was than where you were.

Unfortunately I had too much faith in a doubtful Kane to bang v WHU and Swansea back in GW22. I was also unsure as to how many DGWs we would get later in the season and knew BB would be the one I was going to use.

I aim on having 11 DGWers at a cost of -4.

Do you have it intact? That would get you in the top 10k Id imagine.

Not a no-brainer but I did it to afford Willian - Sterling.
