World Cup dark horses Croatia take on Denmark in Nizhny Novgorod in this evening’s last-16 tie, a match which features the player who has been bought by more Fantasy managers than anyone else since the group stage ended.

Luka Modric (£9.1m) was purchased by more than 400,000 McDonald’s FIFA managers ahead of Saturday afternoon’s deadline and is now owned by 36.2% of Fantasy bosses.

The Real Madrid midfielder has two goals to his name already and is on spot-kick and corner-taking duties for his country. Modric has also created six chances for his team-mates and fired in 12 crosses in his three appearances to date.

Dejan Lovren‘s (£5.1m) ownership has crept past the 20% mark, while goalkeeper Daniel Subasic (£5.6m), who kept clean sheets in both of his group stage appearances, is in 9.5% of McDonald’s FIFA squads.

No Denmark player has a double-digit ownership, meanwhile. Kasper Schmeichel (£5.1m), who also registered two shut-outs in the group stage and delivered save points in all three of his appearances in this tournament, is the Danes’ most popular player from a Fantasy perspective: 9.8% of McDonald’s FIFA managers own the Leicester City goalkeeper.

With a goal and an assist to his name already, Christian Eriksen (£9.1m) finds himself in 8.2% of Fantasy squads. No Denmark player has had more shots on goal at this year’s World Cup than the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder (nine).

Budget defender Jonas Knudsen (£4.0m), owned by 2.8% of Fantasy managers, is a surprise inclusion in Denmark’s starting XI.

Russia’s victory over Spain in this afternoon’s last-16 tie is significant to this match, too: whoever triumphs this evening will take on the host nation in the quarter-finals next Saturday night.

Croatia XI (4-2-3-1): Subasic; Vrsaljko, Vida, Lovren, Strinic; Brozovic, Rakitic; Rebic, Modric, Perisic; Mandzukic

Denmark XI (5-4-1): Schmeichel; Dalsgaard, Zanka, Kjaer, Christensen, Knudsen; Delaney, Eriksen, Braithwaite, Poulsen; Cornelius

I love this Croatia team, just one of those strange times in football where all their best players are around at the same time - a bit like the 2002 Czech team or the current Belgium team

Paul Pogba dominated in midfield against Argentina yesterday while Luka Modric is anonymous tonight against Denmark.

The press won't report this and nobody will notice or comment on this because of their biased agendas.

You are to Pogba what Random Name is to Lacazette.

You need to up your game if you're going to hang with him, this is poor.

Until he plays like that consistently then Pogba doesn't deserve any plaudits.

No where near the amount of criticism he got against Australia where he wasn't even that bad and involved in both goals.

Pogba is one of most overrated players in the world. He's made a scapegoat cos he's not living up to his promise. Plus he's an annoying mofo . All this dabbin , stupid haircuts and pogboom garbage makes people dislike him.

Fergie let Pogba go because he knew he wasn't United class and never would be. If anyone knows a footballer, it's Ferguson. You can't argue with his record. Pogba was basically deemed not good enough to oust Darren Fletcher from the side.

Nah. I have said all along that I hope the England team are being conditioned not to think like this. If they need reminding show them the Iceland game again and tell them we have only won two knockout games in the last 20 years. Show Colombia some respect, try to nullify their strengths (James and Quintero) and then let's beat them

If Spain, Portugal and Argentina had been better they would all still be in the tournament, though.

If Argentina and Portugal had won their respective groups they’d have been in England’s side of the draw.

Spain’s tikka takka borefest got what it deserved. Teams like Croatia, Denmark and Switzerland might actually go for it now and try and win games instead of setting out not to lose them?

So aside from the fact that he spends half the games being completely anonymous for United, you would say he makes a better midfielder that say, De Bruyne or Coutinho?

If so, I'll have to strongly disagree.

Personally, I'd be worried to be branded as a 'favourite' in any of these matches.. underdogs are hungry and anyone could really beat anyone. England have 3 very tough matches ahead of them if they do make it to the final.

That is a tough one.I would probably say Eirksen because he is a younger man and has a few more years left in him but i think Modric is a better player and has had a better career to date.

I think Eirksen would be an ideal candidate to replace Modric at RM.
