The transfer window in between the round of 16 ending and the quarter-finals commencing looked likely to pose the most problems to Fantasy managers and the early exits of Argentina, Portugal and Spain have only added to our woes.

Those with wildcards still to burn are in an enviable position, but the rest of those playing the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game will have to make do with three permitted transfers if they are to avoid points hits.

Fantasy bosses competing in the Fantasy iTeam game will also have to wheel and deal shrewdly with their three allotted transfers, although an additional fourth transfer can, of course, be bought with credits.

With premium forwards Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo no longer an option, along with the likes of Isco, Diego Costa and David Silva, Fantasy managers may suddenly have a sizeable transfer fund at their disposal.

But where should the money be reinvested? Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is updated and available to Fantasy Football Scout members immediately after the end of each match, gives us strong clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Check out this new trailer previewing the World Cup content below…

    2) Cherysev
    3) Lingard

Already have Kane and 0 Russians

    Currently on
    Courtois Subasic
Pavard Trippier Miranda Carvajal (OUT) Akanji (OUT)
Modric Coutinho Isco (OUT) Quintero (OUT) Inui (OUT)
    Griezmann Hazard Kane

    A) Isco, Quintero, Carvajal, Hazard > Lingard Bentancur Granqvist Neymar (-4) = 12 players
    B) Carvajal Isco Hazard > Granqvist Golovin Neymar = 11 players
    C) Wildcard

I prefer to take Hazard out than use a FT on the bench. I have Courtois so it might be counterintuitive but my MLs are full of Neymar and I need to block him

    1. AndyCook
      8 years, 1 month ago

Would not take a -4 for Lingard, wouldn’t you want Granqvist but what are you saving wildcard for?

      1. AndyCook

        Wouldn’t want Granqvist even

      2. JLAEST

It's not a -4 for Lingard, I need the funds to be able to get Neymar.
Granqvist can become Lovren, Fagner or another 5. However I see value in him due to attacking returns (and with WC doesn't really matter if he gets elimnated).

I could use the Wildcard, but the team would look very similar - maybe change keepers and upgrade bench, but that's basically it. Not sure if it's worth.

        1. AndyCook
          8 years, 1 month ago

Penalties are too much of a lottery for me with defenders. I wouldn’t pick him as I think relative to other 5’s the chance of a clean sheet is low. Rodriguez has pens and otherset pieces and is out without any attacking returns. You are getting Neymar in both options you present, I wonder if you are wildcarding whether you could do without Neymar for one game.

    Would you prefer Mbappe & 8.4m (Willian/Lingard/Golovin), or Neymar & 5.4 (Bentancur)?

I'm not sure myself - there are so few mids worth it in this game that I'm not convinced someone like Willian is a significant enough upgrade to warrant going without Neymar.

Thanks. I'm probably leaning towards Neymar as I don't fancy any of the mids available, but at the same time I don't think I can bring myself to buy Bentancur, who's scored 1 goal in 71 games for Boca Juniors and Juventus 😀

Seems the most balanced option, but I just feel the game vs Uruguay will be better for Griez. And the triple croatia without any russia coverage smells a bit risky, specially after that dull game vs denmark.

    Planned transfers:
    Costa - Isco - Carvajal -> Neymar - Golovin - Pavard

This combo means I will atleast have 6-8 players for the semifinals, which then I can make 5 transfers to field a starting 11, or do I back teams like Brazil/France/England so that I have 8+ players for the semis but risk having less than 6 if they'd t make it through?

Out of curiosity, how many of your 15 players are still in the tournament?

This is going to come across as a complete brag - I know I'm in a very good position with 14 (had Saudi keeper for 3.9, but none the players I picked for the second round were eliminated). Just interested to know how good this is compared to the rest.

How many hits are you taking? Or do you have a wildcard up your sleeve still? Any players that are banned/injured/out of favour?

For me, it's really just Boyata that I need to shift as he may be out of favour. Once again, sorry for the smug post. Haven't been on here much, and there's nothing similar to fpldiscovery, or no insightful ragabolly articles, so asking on here is the best way for me to gauge.

        hope that happens!

backed england to win it after spain went out - just 7/1 i think i got.

kane golden boot is 1.35 decimally. doesn't actually seem bad value. unlikely anyone will catch him, and i may risk some money in exchange for a 35% roi. plus, i'm gambling with my heart!

        come on england!

10 in, 5 out. 5 out are 2 spain which I need to replace, and 3 fodders which are okay not to play. I'm considering using the free transfers to replace the spanish and do Hazard > Neymar, eventually also replacing one of the fodders to free up funds for an hit.

This with WC in my sleeve, but I'm thinking of keeping it for semis.

Are hits in this game justifiable?

With no bonus points like FPL, only 3 more rounds left to pay back, and 5 free transfers after this round, I can't see how taking a hit for the QF round is rational.

        1. JLAEST
          • 12 Years
          8 years, 1 month ago

Not really. However, in my specific case, not taking a hit means:
          A) I spend my Wildcard on a 90% equal team
          B) I have Golovin Quintero instead of Lingard Bentancur. Fancy the latter to easily get 4 more points than the former.

In addition, I'm pretty up ahead on my MLs and my rivals are in much worse positions (used WCs and 5-10 players out).

13 players still on tournament is enough? Made the 3 FT and have one foder (4.3m C.Sanchez), but still got 5.7m Quintero.

    Have 3 Belgian players: Meunier/Hazard/Lukaku and 2 Brasilians: Silva/Nyamar.
In my league i have 3 free transfers left and 2 more will be added for the semis.

    The whole team is
    pickford
    trippier/meunier/granqvist/silva
    bentancour/hazard/modric
    kane/lukaku/neymar
subs & 2nd keeper - are cheap 4.0m dead bodies coz obviously i can't waste transfers on em ))
So the point is: should i consider droppin anyone of BEL/BRA pair for the 1/4(and who to pick instead?) or just wait for the winner and make em decisions the next round?

I think it comes down to Rakitic or Willian for my Isco replacement. I already own Modric and Coutinho though. Don’t really rate Lingard, Pogba or Russians for the last spot. Maybe go differential and bring inForsberg?? Should I lean one way or the other? Would really appreciate the input.

    Team for reference
Kane Suarez (Mbappe if injured) Hazard
Modric Coutinho Classen Betancur and ?
Trippier Meunier Granny Pavard and anyone I want
    Subasic fodder

    1. AndyCook

Forsberg shoots the most. If you do it by fixture then Rakitic. I still think Forsberg doesn’t look that dangerous though and Lingard has a habit of popping up in the right place so he’s my pick still.

Don’t know but think of how many points have come from subs. Anything is possible. I picked him up regardless because I think he can net 1 regardless. Russia attack with a lot of pace from what I saw in the Spain game. He’s right in the mix.

France is 2nd most likely team to get a CS in QF. England are 1st. I already have two English and zero French:

    A) Hernandez
    B) Maguire

haha true but I really fancy "The Clown's chances vs that Belgium defense more than Kane vs Sweden so not sure if I should join 🙂
