The transfer window in between the round of 16 ending and the quarter-finals commencing looked likely to pose the most problems to Fantasy managers and the early exits of Argentina, Portugal and Spain have only added to our woes.

Those with wildcards still to burn are in an enviable position, but the rest of those playing the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game will have to make do with three permitted transfers if they are to avoid points hits.

Fantasy bosses competing in the Fantasy iTeam game will also have to wheel and deal shrewdly with their three allotted transfers, although an additional fourth transfer can, of course, be bought with credits.

With premium forwards Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo no longer an option, along with the likes of Isco, Diego Costa and David Silva, Fantasy managers may suddenly have a sizeable transfer fund at their disposal.

But where should the money be reinvested? Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is updated and available to Fantasy Football Scout members immediately after the end of each match, gives us strong clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Check out this new trailer previewing the World Cup content below…

Anybody else still have their max captain and bench boost available?

Semis I think. More goals in the third place play-by-play -off, for which we should see the teams.

When to play BB with this team?

    Pickford
    Maguire Miranda Lucas Strinic
    Lingard Rakitic Paulinho Claesson
    Kane Mbappe

4 knocked out subs, before 3 transfers.

Play it in QF with a non playing GK, or risk playing it in SF?

If the ties go as I hope (in particular my x4 England go through) could get a full bench out in SF but could also backfire!

Play it now IMO while you still have some reasonably cheap bench options (Russia, Croatia, Sweden etc).

I’d get a GK over an outfield player tbh - BB is fairly worthless for outfield players because you often sub out 1 and 0 pointers

    Current team:

    Subasic Sommer (x)
Trippier Meunier Godin Grandqvist Carvajal (x)
Modric Coutinho Bentancur Isco (x) Quintero (x)
    Griezmann Hazard Costa (x)

5 players eliminated. Still have WC. Use WC or save for semifinals?

    Thanks!

    Morning all,

Think I've calmed down from last night by now, just curious to know if the general opinion on here from neutrals was that the referee was poor, and Colombia played a very dirty game, seemed obvious watching it live but obviously I'm biased.

    1. _Make
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 5 months ago

He absolutely bottled the red card decision, even after VAR review. If that was an offence it could and should only have been a red card. Otherwise nothing. Yet again another nonsense yellow (cf Ronaldo).

He also let the Colombian players shout at him, push him about, and dig their heels into the penalty spot for three minutes after awarding the penalty. There should have been more yellows.

In the second half, when Colombia realised they were just as good as England and could beat them fairly after all, things got a lot better.

      1. _Make
        • 8 Years

I'm not a neutral BTW but I still think it was clear. Especially showing a yellow instead of either nothing or a red card, when only one of those outcomes makes logical sense, happens too often and VAR hasn't stopped it.

I agree with you in the second half when they played football they were very good, and it was quite an even game, but the first half I thought they were shocking, as you said right in the referees face screaming at every decision, the penalty spot stuff was such poor sportsmanship, I would have hoped the footballing world would have been backing England after that.

The Premier League gets so much stick for the quality, the fouls and the physicality, but I don't think any team play as 'nicely' as England. That is our undoing a lot of the time.

It will be nice to actually come up against some teams of real quality in the last 8 so we can lose, if we're going to, to better football rather than more effective cheating.

I agree, I would have been livid to go out against them last night, just because of the dirty tactics, and referee manipulation. On the plus side I thought England dealt with it all with great maturity, and showed real mental toughness after conceding so late, and going behind in the shoot out, all bodes well for the next game.

Yeah I thought Henderson was going to lose it a couple of times but they hung in in there 🙂 At least we go thorugh, that's the main thing! Onwards and upwards. We're one more win away from the best WC result since 1990 and the psychological boost of winning a shout-out (finally!) is massive.

As a neutral I believe it was a horrible game in terms of whining, diving and actual football from both sides.
Referee was poor and lost control, it was an obvious red card for Barrios. Penalty was questionable since Kane made the first foul, Sanchez had however no impulse control and walked gloriously into the trap.
In the end I believe England deserved the win for being the better and less annoying team. Hope they are more enjoyable against Sweden!

Thanks for the honest take. Pretty much how I felt watching, England weren't great, although as I mentioned above I was impressed mostly with their mental maturity, and really felt the main tactic from Colombia was to intimidate the referee and stop us playing.
I'm also hoping for better, in terms of football, against Sweden.

Actually since I am chasing I was thinking

It's a shame James didn't play. Colombia wouldn't have used three defensive midfielders and it would have been far more open. Very tough for any team to play through 3 DMs in a 451.

Yeah and we didn't respond. We let them have the middle of the pitch and our wing play wasn't effective enough to combat it. Sterling was poor again last night IMO but we don't really have a like-for-like to replace him with.

Modric and Trip are good. Not Bentacur. Someone posted on here that he hasn't scored in 71 consecutive games or smth like that for club and country.

Nope. Can't. I like Bentancur simply because he's an enabler. I'll frankly take two points and if he gets eliminated he's cheap so can just sit there, if not, great, I have some Uruguay.

I'd say you need a Croatian defender in there. You'll be able to keep him until the final.

Not sure about Modric since you already have Rakitic, but there are not that many good options left in midfield tbh.

Trippier a good shout, but then again, doubling up on England's defense..

You must forgive us for getting carried away, but it's not often we get to be excited about our national team.

I can usually look at football with a fairly unbiased view, but part of me will always remember crying myself to sleep as a little kid after Euro '96 when we went out on penalties...it'd be a dream come true to see an England team win the world cup.

Don't worry about it, it's understandable. And England have a real chance this year, with their half of the bracket being so clear of big teams. They have yet to face a real test, and I'm thinking that Sweden will not be a piece of cake.

See you in the final hopefully (I'm French) !

The draw has fallen kindly for us, which only adds to our sense of optimism.

France had the performance of the tournament so far against Argentina, and obviously a really strong team. We can both agree that would be a good final.

A big positive from last night was Trippier. It wasn't his best performance as it was a tough night but he was a handy outlet, put in some great crosses and ran beyond his opposite man frequently, especially in the first half.

He was also mature enough not to let some of the Colombian 'attention' get to him. He's been England's best player apart from Kane in the competition so far, IMO, although Maguire was immense last night.

Details of free transfers are mentioned below:
      Before group stage: Unlimited
      Group stage: 1 Per Round
Between group stage and Round of 16: Unlimited
      Before Quarter-finals: 3
      Before semi-finals: 5
      Before finals: 5

So with 5 available transfers theres not much point imho

He might come on and get a goal. But at this stage of the tournament, would be madness to change the starting lineup. Chadli also more offensive than Carrasco and they would prefer defensive cover I think vs Brazil.

Both are bad defensively. Willian will have a field day

    Lukaku/Suarez/Mbappe/Griezmann/Golovin/perisic

    Thank you in advance 🙂

Any particular reason? he is yet to muster a goal right?

      Suarez

Mbappe more explosive, but Perisic probably safer. The croatia game easier to call, Belgium vs Brazil is a really tight one.

      Griezmann

Griezmann is safest. Perisic best value. Golovin isn't a forward.

Might be for naught, but anyone knows who will be inelligible to play next game? Any popular fantasy options missing out through YC accumulation?

I think the following are a booking away from missing the QF

      Meunier
      Vertonghen
      Walker
      Pavard
      KDB
      Pogba
      Lingard
      Coutinho
      Rakitic
      Neymar

    Which looks better?

    A) Lingard & Tolisso
    B) Willian & Golovin

      Lingard + Golovin

Why would you pick Tolisso? He'll play because of Matuidi suspension but he'll most likely play pretty deep alongside Kante as France's pivot in the Matuidi role.

Luke Shaw is already doing intense strength and conditioning training in Dubai. Sounds like he's being prepared to play a bigger part in the next season.

Why, cos hes training like every other footballer? or maybe cos he's overweight and needs to get properly match fit.

Every other footballer? He's on his own with Gary Walker.

At least it shows they haven't given up on him. They could have just put him in the reserves and sold him.

All non world cup players are due back around the 9th anyway - he's getting in less than a week extra training.

I’m in a draft league and have been offered this trade:

I get Coutinho, Kutepov, and Augustinsson

He gets Miranda, Meunier and Henderson

If I agree to it, then I can replace Kutepov with Vida and Walker, who are free agents. Should I do it?

Best option out of Vrsaljko or Vida? is Vida in the box for the corners?

Got 2FT left, got 4 playing defenders and 1 playing mid (Cout)

How would you use these FT:

    A) 2FT on 2 midfielders

    B) 2FT on 1 mid & 1 defender?

Who are the players you may not have known much about who have impressed you so far this WC?
    Personally I’d say:
    Quintero
    Lozano
    Milenkovic-Savic
    Inui
    Golovin

How about Olsen? Obviously I knew him since earlier because I'm a swede, but he's been very impressive for us this WC.
