Set-pieces are still proving important for World Cup Fantasy managers as we head into the quarter-finals.

Once again, we’ve pulled together all the relevant data so Fantasy Football Scout members can work out which nations are the best to invest in for the next round.

At this stage, it looks like England and Brazil are the most likely to score from set-piece situations in the quarter-finals, based on their respective match-ups while Croatia and Russia both look susceptible to balls into the box.

READ NEXT: Our transfer tips and stats for the World Cup Fantasy quarter-finals

Our research includes the penalty and corner-takers for each country, based on who has taken them either in Russia or, in some cases, in qualification. If there is no number next to a player’s name it’s because they took at least one in qualifying and/or warm-up games but are yet to take one at the World Cup itself.

We’ve also calculated which teams concede the most fouls and attempts from set-plays too to help you work out which nations are the most likely to get set-pieces in the first place.

To clarify, the ‘Attempts from set plays’ section combines those who have shot from direct free-kicks or those who have latched onto the end of a corner.

The deadline for Gameround 5 is at 15:00 BST on Friday July 6, so make sure you sort your team in time.

Do moves below seem sensible or too much Brazil then in side (4) with cover from other sides too wide-
2 French, Uruguay, Swedes, English and 1 Belgian, Russian and Croatian

    Alisson Olsen
    Granqvist Maguire Godin TSilva JAlba*
    Coutinho Modric Bentancur Isco* Quintero*
    Kane Lukaku Mbappe

    3 transfers
    Isco to Willian
    Quintero to Golovin
    JAlba to Hernandez

    Ooh shiny above.

Us plebs 😉 - would you prefer Willian and Kane or Neymar and Golovin. There’s 1.1 difference in price there which would either be saved for upgrading Quintero/Inui after the QF or picking a more expensive def than Pavard

I know this because I took the risk and ended up with my worse score in 11 seasons (21 pts). I'm confident he will be raring to go by gw 1

    1. DJDave1979
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 1 month ago

I don't THINK he will be. He scored tons of goals but he was still playing winger. FPL is much wider on mid classification than other games. Sanchez has been striker in most other games for years and they effectively play same position as focal point of attack but not actually CF.

If they reclassify Salah, they will have to do same for Sanchez and Sterling. I don't think they will.

This is where the classifications become fuzzy with teams adapting to play wide forwards. The game has evolved from the times where strikers are expected to score majority of the teams goals. Most teams inside forwards should be classified as forwards in my opinion

I have to agree . I'm hoping he's reclassified. Basically at moment if salah is 12 mil then we all effectively have 88 mil to spend. If they at least try and make him a little less essential ( less spots for big attackers) then I'm all for it . All having salah does is cancel each other out.

There is no guarantee he will be able to replicate his form from last season.
I would say Kane is far more important in FPL than Salah. Kane has scored 25+ goals 3 years on the bounce.

At the start I'm not going anywhere near kane. I'm as big a fan of Harry as the next man but this August voodoo isn't going to be helped by a long world cup. Harry is a slow starter when back from a lay off ,

The world cup, and poor August history are going to make it tricky, but you'll need to factor his cost into your team from GW3 or so at the latest.
14m Kane and probably 12.5m Salah won't leave much room for anyone else

RVP was 14m after his first season with United.
Kane scored 30 PL goals last season, and will likely be the WC goal boot winner.

I don't think Kane is at the same (fantasy) level just yet - Salah just had the most successful fantasy season in history for example. And if Kane does turn out to be more than 13 (which I really doubt), he's not going anywhere near my team, especially if he's as unreliable a captain choice as last year.

I don't know what more he can do to raise his level than 25+ PL goals for three years in a row, then winning the golden boot at the world cup, and coming into the best years of his career.

Salah was immense last year, no doubt, well we'll get the prices soon enough I'm sure.

Scoring vs. the bottom teams would be a good start 😛 At that price you want consistency as well as explosiveness, and he didn't have that for a lot of the year. (only towards the end, where, ironically, there was no explosiveness)

I had many captaincy rages with Kane myself. But the stats are there, he scores goals in the PL, and lots of them. He'll certainly be the highest priced FPL forward next season, and we've had players at 14m before.

OK, well if he's 14m that will easily solve any dilemmas I might otherwise have!

Salah or Kane is tough . Salah seemed to be the better option due to consistency but kane had Wembley to get used to and a nasty injury

I'd probably go with Kane over salah myself. I'm one of them who can't go without Harry

The way Liverpool play, Salah would have to suffer a serious dip in form - as it is, he will get chances and put them away. Maybe to a lesser degree than last year, but enough of them I would think.

Mane will be interesting as an option. In the beginning of last season for example, he was seen as the prime pick among Liverpool mids, with people like me only opting for Salah because he was cheaper at the time. If the roles can be reversed - or Mane can get closer to Salah in terms of output - it would be interesting to see the strategies.

I agree with above, classifications are fuzzy now with 'modern' systems like Liverpool's and Man City's for example. To be honest I think Salah should indeed be classified as a forward based on where he gets his touches, heat maps etc. But would prefer him to stay a midfielder.

I'm not advocating they should all become forwards of course - Hazard and David Silva for instance are 100% midfielders and have no idea what possessed FWC to classify them as forwards. We can still have quality picks in the midfield like those two, Eriksen, Sane etc.

Note I said 'forwards', not 'strikers' - Salah is indeed not a 'striker' in the traditional sense of the word, but he very much is a forward.

Salah is no more of a forward than Hazard, Sanchez, Sterling, or Sane, if you're off data from heat maps.

Based off heat maps Alonso was the third most forward based player at Chelsea last season.

If you play at the front 3 of a 4-3-3, and you keep cutting inside the box, you're a forward, not a midfielder. As I said above, not a 'striker' in the traditional sense, but certainly a forward.

I didn't say that you said striker, the players I compared Salah too above play in the same position.

            So at City you'd have,

Forwards - Aguero, Jesus, Sterling, Sane, B Silva.
Midfielders - Fernandinho, KdB, D Silva

United - Forwards - Lukaku, Rashford, Sanchez, Martial
            Midfielders - Pogba, Fellani, McTomaney

Chelsea - Forwards - Morata, Hazard, Willian, Pedro
Mids - Kante, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Fabregas

I wouldn't have an argument there. Although just from the eye test I highly doubt Hazard and Willian play the same position as Salah - the latter was in the box a lot more often surely. But if not, sure, why not, they should be forwards too.

But they are part of a front three, which was your argument.
The problem with it would be that there are too many good attacking options to pick, and no one to choose in midfield who is likely to offer any attacking returns.

That's a bit of an exaggeration - as I said above, we'd still have guys like Eriksen. If Sane and Hazard are forwards, there's still KDB, D. Silva, Alli, Mahrez. Plenty of options, unlike in FWC where everyone of note is a forward.

I think Fantasy Champions League had a good balance actually - with Salah and Mane as forwards, but Hazard and Sane as midfielders, to take two examples from each.

I take your point, but I don't think FPL have it too far wrong.
They would also need to look at defenders who play higher up than holding mids as well.
                    Alonso, Moses, Young etc

I'd like to see holding mids become relevant somehow actually, just to introduce a different element of strategy into the game. Maybe extra point for clean sheet compared to attacking mids, or extra point for every set number of successful tackles or interceptions or something. It won't happen because it would make the game too complicated, but I'd like to see something happen ideally.

I agree, lots of quality players in that area of the pitch, Kante for example, hugely important to the team, but just not a fantasy option.

How's this for QFs after using 3 FTs? Still have WC, should I use or save for semis?

    Subasic Sommer (x)
Meunier Trippier Granqvist Pavard Carvajal (x)
Coutinho Modric Lingard Bentancur Quintero (x)
    Kane Hazard Griezmann

    0.1 ITB

    1.0m ITB.

    Lloris
    Menuier Godin Miranda
    ERIKSEN GROSINSKY Coutinho QUINTERO
    Jesus Cavani(c) Lukaku

    Akinfeev Modric Lovren Granqvist

I've got these 10 playing players:

    Alisson
    Miranda, Meunier, Lovren, Trippier
    Coutinho, Modric, Claesson
    Hazard, Mbappé

    Should I go with
    A. Pavard, Golovin, Kane
    B. Pavard, Golovin, Neymar
    C. Pavard, Rebic, Rakitic
    D. WC

This is doing my head in
    I've got 0 Fra/Rus, 1 Uru/Swe 2 Eng/Cro/Bra/Bel

What to do with Isco, Carvajal & Quintero?
Can't seem to get a good combination. Would like to avoid Swe/Rus as I think they'll go out.
The only mids I'm looking at are Rakitic, Willian and Lingard and there's no way I could afford 2 of them. Who to get as a 2nd mid? Casemiro suspended, Was thinking Henderson but it's more likely he'll get a 2nd yellow and miss the semi than score.
For the def. spot - double up on Croatia or Brazil? Or get France or even Uruguay instead (only have Suarez)?

Sell Lukaku for a hit and get Perisic? Could go with Pavard, Rakitic, Perisic and Willian then.

    What do you think?

    A) Costa + Isco + Carvajal > Neymar + Golovin + Pavard
    B) Costa + Isco + Carvajal > Griezmann + Lingard + Trippier
    C) Other

    Current squad:
    Muslera - 4.0
    Granqvist - Lovren - Miranda - Alderweireld - Carvajal
    Quintero - Modric - Coutinho - Claesson - Isco
    Hazard - Kane - Costa

Croatia and England are of course the favourites from the bottom half, but I think both their QFs will be close - Sweden have had more rest than England and should be fresher. Plus, everyone (here at least) expected England to be big favourites against Colombia and they just scraped through. I'd still pick England but it will be closer than people think in my opinion.

From the top half, I pick Brazil and France, with the caveat that if Uruguay is fully fit, I'd back them instead.

Ok, plan is to take a -4 to remove my non-players.

    Current team:

    Muslera, Subasic
    Pavard, Granqvist, Maguire, CARVAJAL, RROD
    Modric, Coutinho, Claesson, PAVON, ISCO
    Kane, Lukaku, Mertens

Can just afford: WILLIAN + GOLOVIN + TRIPPIER + FAGNER.
