Fantasy Premier League pre-season is well and truly underway at Fantasy Football Scout now that our official ‘Pre-Season Tab’ is live on the website.

You can find it by clicking on ‘PRE-SEASON‘ on the toolbar above, or by CLICKING HERE.

Head over there now to check out all the FPL content we’ve produced so far this summer including Scout Reports on new signings, Moving Target articles on those who have switched allegiances as well as detailed research and analysis into the promoted sides and those back for another campaign in the top flight.

You can also find the complete pre-season fixture list for all 20 clubs. Southampton are the first Premier League side to play a pre-season fixture and as more and more of their rivals follow suit we’ll start adding the Scout Notes on those matches there so you can get an accurate fix on the predicted line-ups, goal-scorers and assisters for Gameweek 1.

We’ll be constantly updating the page all summer long so make sure you keep coming back to it. Every time there’s a new transfer who could do well in FPL or a pre-season encounter is played, you can read all about it there.

We already know several FPL prices for the new season and the game itself is expected to launch very soon so make sure you make the most of our content this summer!

I like forwards to be classed as forwards and players not to have massive ownership.

I'm hoping they price him out the game. Be better if not everyone has him. All he's doing is taking a large portion of budget from everyone as no one in their right mind will go without if he's 12.5

Why do you think reclassifying him as a forward will affect his ownership? I'm not saying it won't btw, just wondering what your reasoning is. I expect him to be in at least 50% of teams regardless of position and price.

Strikers get less points for goals than midfielders do. Also only three strikers spots available.

And if Salah is a forward, then so is Hazard, Sanchez, Willian, Mane, Martial, Pedro, Son

Are Colombia really blaming the ref for them going out? Do they have any self awareness?

They were lucky not to get a red for Barrios headbutt and the ref put up with so much dissent do the Colombians.

They should have lost another 3/4 players due to the way they constantly surrounded the ref but weren’t punished.

All that nonsense with the penalty and Henderson actually got booked!

South America should get a separate world cup where cheating, diving, rolling around, screaming in refs face for 3 minutes etc is allowed and leave Europe, Africa, Asia, North America etc to their own competition.

Italy can join the South americans.

    Ok. let's try this again

What to do with Isco, Carvajal & Quintero?
Can't seem to get a good combination. Would like to avoid Swe/Rus as I think they'll go out.
The only mids I'm looking at are Rakitic, Willian and Lingard and there's no way I could afford 2 of them. Who to get as a 2nd mid? Casemiro suspended, Was thinking Henderson but it's more likely he'll get a 2nd yellow and miss the semi than score.
For the def. spot - double up on Croatia or Brazil? Or get France or even Uruguay instead (only have Suarez)?

Maybe sell Lukaku for a hit and get Perisic? Could go with Pavard, Rakitic, Perisic and Willian then

    1. I Member
      • 10 Years

Selling the same three players here. Getting Maguire for Carvajal but not sure what to do with the mids. Might go for Willian and Golovin. Would like to get Lingard but don't think it's worth a hit to afford him.

      1. cigan
        • 8 Years

Carvajal replacement is between Maguire, Strinic and Pavard for me.
Not feeling exactly comfortable tripling up on England though (have Kane & Trippier), I don't think the Sweden game will be as easy as most think.

I don't think a hit is worth it. Depending on your budget, you might be able to squeeze in Willian & Lingard with a 3.9 defender. However, going with one of the cheaper mids from Swe/Rus/Bel is probably a better bet imo.

      1. cigan
        • 8 Years

That's an interesting idea - got exact budget for that. However, that would mean only 1 playing sub (got 2 bench fodder already). Thinking of doing Rakitic + Fagner/Maguire + Claeson now

Probably Willian for me as he's facing Carrasco who's terrible defensively. Defender spot my top pick has to be Hernandez for the clean sheet (Cavani injured) & assist potential. Lovren rather than Strinic for the goal threat.

              • 8 Years

Good point about Willian, Carrasco really has been terrible so far. And even if he gets benched for Chadli he's just as bad defensively.
France have looked well shaky at the back though and I'm sure Suarez will put in a double shift if there's no Cavani. Might go Pavard/Fernandez for France cover still

Absolute nonsense saying that Sanchez and Salah play as forwards.

Anyone who knows anything about football knows that these players are attacking midfielders, not centre forwards.

This is how people like Josh King get wrongly reclassified.

I hope official fpl isn't lurking on here, listening.

Liverpool don't play with any out and out centre forwards ... unless they change the system to play Ings and Solanke who are bona fide forwards.

Defending has nothing to do with your position. Everyone defends for corners, for example.

Firmino isn't a forward, either. I've always said it. Liverpool play with 3 attacking midfielders.

Heat maps mean little - they are heavily influenced by how a game is going.

Formation is the compelling factor here.

I'll say it again. Heat map positions are dictated by the ebbs and flows of a game, who's on top, who's getting battered. Salah heat map would be very different if they were getting pinned back by Real Madrid most weeks.

The formation in the starting line up is what decides it.

I have to disagree with you on this issue Virgin.

If he is on average Liverpool's most advanced player he should be classed as a forward. You say that Firmino should be classed as a mid?Well that would lead to the absurd situation of Liverpool having no forwards playing in the first team. This is a pretty attacking team so they have forwards this is not WBA we are talking about.

If Hazard and Alexis have remained mids I can't see them tweaking the formula for Salah.

Yes, we can't find any good midfield options.

If I'm picking between Drinkwater, McTominey, and Kante as to who I think will get me 3 points rather than just 2, some of the excitement goes out of the game for me.

I don't like the heatmap argument at all. If we're looking at heatmaps then Robertson, who is clearly a full back, should be a midfielder as he's far more advanced than any of Liverpool's centre mids.

Forwards aren't just centre forwards. Wingers are normally called forwards too. Even Wikipedia says Salah is a forward.

That being said, FPL has always classified wingers as midfielders, so I don't know why people have brought this up only this season. If Salah is reclassified, they'd have to reclassify Mane, Sanchez, etc. as well, so it won't happen.

This. It's just semantics as far as I'm concerned. Wingers or wide forwards have always been midfielders in FPL. Not sure why so many people are making a big fuss about it when it's always been the case.

Can you link me some "forward" players that play on average higher up the pitch than Salah does if there are any?

      1. HamezMace
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 11 days ago

The problem with that is that the weaker teams, or lets say teams outside the top 8 will find themselves naturally penned in deeper. So a heat map isn't reflective of where a player should be classified.
Let's say Walcott, if he went to Liverpool he'd be playing in Salahs position, but at Everton he isn't able to play that high up the pitch because of how much Everton have to defend.

Better examples are the attacking wing backs, Alonso, Robinson, Walker, Young, their respective heat maps would show them more advanced than Kante, Henderson, Fernandinho and Matic.

So Liverpool players should get special treatment because they are Liverpool?

What is Evertons go to formation and i will tell you where Walcott plays in it and where he should be classified?

Liverpool's go to formation is 4-3-3 and Salah plays as one of the forwards and the most advanced one for that matter.

I like the rest of fpl managers hope that fpl towers misclassify Salah as a mid so it will make the game easier for me but in the interest of fairness and the game he should be rightly be classed as a forward imo.

          1. HamezMace
            • 11 Years
            8 years, 11 days ago

No I'm not saying they should get special treatment, I'm just saying that positional play, especially regarding heat maps is somewhat dependant on the teams style of play, and their opposition also.

FPL has always had wide attackers as midfielders.

If Salah is a forward, so is Sterling, Sane, B.Silva, Mane, Sanchez, Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Martial, Son....as well as the more traditional forwards such as Lukaku, Kane, Auba and Morata...with only three slots available it would make the game boring.

5 midfielder slots for the likes of Matic, Kante, and Gareth Barry.

There has always been inconsistency around classification of mids/fwds. Hazard perhaps being the best example.

The way around all this re classificiation problems would be to create a DM role of which we need 1 on our first XI that gets say 2 or 3 clean sheet points (as opposed to 4) then all other mids are by definition attacking

    Hi Guys,

Advice appreciated! I still have WC but would like to keep for semis I think, because I literally have no clue who will go through!

With my 3 x FT's (costa, Isco and Quintero to MBappe, Modric and Bentacur) I can have the below:

    Courtious
    Lovren / Trippier / Miranda
    Lingard / Modric / Couthinho / Bentacur
    Kane / MBappe / Lukaku

Bench: Olsen / Claesson / Granqvist / Ramos*

Can you see any problems? Would you go with the above, something different with 3 FT or Wildcard now?

After using 3 FTs and saving WC for semifinals, current team with 0.1 ITB:

    Subasic Sommer (x)
Meunier Trippier Granqvist Pavard Carvajal (x)
Coutinho Modric Lingard Bentancur Quintero (x)
    Kane Hazard Griezmann

I transfered out Costa (x), Isco (x), Godin to get Kane, Lingard, Pavard. Good moves or is there something better I could do? GTG?

Godin is 5.7 and Carvajal 5.5 so couldn't make it work, as much as I wanted to!

        Alternatives include:

        - Transfer out Trippier (instead of Godin) for Pavard
        - Transfer out Carvajal for a 4.4 or cheaper defender (who?)
        - Get a cheaper striker instead of Kane - would prefer not Lukaku or Mbappe as already have Hazard and Griezmann, so perhaps Suarez? Mandzukic? Jesus?
        - Get a cheaper midfield alternative to Lingard - Forsberg? Golovin?

        Thoughts?

Transfer out the non-playing members of your squad and do the best you can with the budget. (Presuming the above is a draft idea, and you haven't actually hit button on the FTs yet?)

Is Lukaku > Kane worth a hit? Don't see Kaku getting much from Brazil (if anything?), reckon Belgium will be heading home, fancy Kane to get at least one vs Sweden and a small % he could even haul with eyes firmly set on Golden Boot, i also see England making the Semi's. My main rival in my ML (1pt behind me!!) has him too so would be a great blocker for me. Yay or nay? Thanks.

It would be an early launch but the twitter dripfeed and then this suggests it's the case. Perhaps they're just more organised this year and don't want Sky stealing a march on the early adopters? Dunno, all the signs are that it will open very soon though.

Mkhi and Ramsey for a collective 14.5 is very nice when Arsenal's fixtures turn blue if the new manager can get things to click.

    Hi team,

Trying to catch a rival in a private league who I know will have Kane, Lukaku and likely Modric. Currently at:

    Allison (deadwood)
    Granq, Pavard, Godin, Meunier, Carvajal
    Rakitic, Isco*, Coutinho, Quintero*, Claesson
    Kane, Lukaku, Griezmann
    (0.4 ITB)

    Considering the following:
    1. Lukaku to Neymar, Isco to Golovin, Carvajal to Lovren. Trade Quintero next round.
    2. Isco to Pogba, Carvajal to Croatia/Brazil def, Quintero to Bentancur/deadwood
    3. Same as above except play it safe with Modric.

    Any thoughts?
