Harry Kane (£12.5m) is the latest returning World Cup star to be thrust straight into Fantasy Premier League action for Gameweek 1.

The England striker, owned by 31.6 percent of managers, was considered a doubt for Spurs’ trip to Newcastle but his determination to start has won out.

It is another example in less than 24 hours of players who went the distance in Russia coming back to competitive action for their clubs much earlier than expected, much to the disappointment of Fantasy managers who steered clear of them.

Jan Vertonghen (£6.0m), Eric Dier (£5.0m) and Dele Alli (£9.0m) also made it into the starting line-up for Spurs.

However, one player who did not make the cut was Kieran Trippier (£6.0m). He was picked in 26.7 percent of Fantasy squads for Gameweek 1, but was not even named on the bench.

There is considerably less interest in Newcastle’s options for this match. Jamaal Lascelles (£5.0m) is the most fashionable Magpie with 9.2 percent ownership, with those managers buying in for his goal threat rather than hopes for a clean sheet.

NEWCASTLE UNITED XI (4-4-2): Dubravka; Dummett, Clark, Lascelles, Yedlin; Kenedy, Shelvey, Diamé, Ritchie; Joselu, Pérez.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Davies, Vertonghen, Sánchez, Aurier; Sissoko, Dier; Lucas, Eriksen, Alli; Kane.

The Courtois one needs to be changed, yes, and should have been before. And Pogba, KDB, Vardy (etc) can now be added.

When Pogba wasn't going to start, and the same was thought of KDB, they weren't in the watchlist. Although it hasn't been updated in some days that's mostly because there weren't adjustments that were judged needed - it's always easy to look back after games happen and wonder why players who did well weren't picked

It will be updated though, certainly

19k have bought shaw already! Why people chasing points, he scored his first career goal. They think he ll score in gw2 again? He ll be dropped soon.
9k have sold Lovren. Wth? He will likely play gw 2 onwards and it was very evident he wont play gw1. Then why people put him in their team in the first place? So many different dumb following players.

Given how many players in my ML have used TC’s, brought in players unlikely to play, full of England internationals that were doubts like kane, Trippier and Young, it’s clear that most people just look at this as a bit of fun and are like kids with an ant farm... 5 million people will bring about all kinds of weird non thought out decisions from people who have just heard of teams and players and don’t follow them or news. Every week the highest points scorer is the most transferred in (you see that effect with investing btw, it’s a psychological failing of all humans).

      I’m surprised it’s only 19k out of 5 million.

Well yes, but you can't argue that the world cup hasn't affected them. Lukaku and Vardy would've definitely started if it wasn't for the WC.

This is true and we’re only on the second game. Plenty of time for WC players to be left out... and coming off the bench hardly ideal either (unless you had Vardy)

This place can be a poisoned chalice. All the talk of World Cup players not making it has proved to be rubbish. They were always only going to miss 1 GW at most, but all of us have been suckered into ignoring heavy hitters and spreading the funds across the backline with the likes of Jota, Richalison and King. Awful.

Very happy DeBruyne owner here, Pep has been kind to us FPL managers for GW1

This definitely. Pep normally screes us over so this is rare.

Not sure, but i'd probably go with two big strikers to allow an easy switch.

Fair enough - I wasn't considering it anyway.

I think players just tend to be a lot fitter these days and see the performances put in by teams who get further than expected and want to be apart of that now.

That’s why I invested in 4 premium at the back to see how this WC malarkey pens out

See above - what about Lingard, Trippier, Vardy, Lukaku? There will be more as well. It's on a player-by-player basis, playing in the world cup doesn't mean you automatically miss the GW, but are more likely to on the whole.

Your team, your decisions. Make your own choices from now on and stop whining. Not a hard concept to grasp

You dont say haha. The fee they paid for him is criminal. Not at the level for what Spurs are aspiring to achieve.

Is there a Twitter account that tweets the teams in the tweet so I don't have to click into the tweet and load up a picture or click another link?

FFS used to do it and it would be great if they could revert..
