The Fantasy Football Scout Community have been dealing with the fallout from Gameweek 1 this week, with everything covered from early price changes to Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury.

As well as the usual array of superb discussions in the comments this week, there have been some welcome article and table submissions that can help with our planning for Gameweek 2 and beyond.

Our latest Community Round-up feature has it all covered.

The Hottest Topics

Our community’s dissection of Gameweek 1 began with detailed analyses of three of the weekend’s fixtures, with maltasi, Bruce Lee and Parm offering some real insight into the Watford v Brighton, Bournemouth v Cardiff and Fulham v Crystal Palace fixtures respectively.

Richarlison had his owners worried after limping from the field in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Wolves, but facer reassured us with what turned out be a spot-on appraisal of the Brazilian’s injury.

With the start of a new season came the return of our regular What Have We Learned? and Rough with the Smooth topics, the latter of which featured RedLightning‘s early ascent to the top of the Mods and Cons league.

The Gameweek 1 picks of 15 Hall of Famers were the subject of rent_boy‘s FPL player analysis, meanwhile.

Eden Wizard was the winner of our Scout Pick Community Lottery for Gameweek 2, as attention turned to this forthcoming weekend.

The Community discussed the pros and cons of gambling on an early transfer, while G-Whizz rounded up the “Doosra stats”, fixture odds and clean sheet odds to help with our planning.

The repercussions of Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury sparked debate, with Parm providing a deeper analysis of Manchester City’s tactical tweaks in the 2-0 win over Arsenal. Becks also gave us his predictions on what City’s line-up may look like this Sunday in De Bruyne’s absence.

ZoumasBloomers asked us for our favourite FPL goal of all time – as well as the goal that has hurt you the most.

DJDave1979 pondered if some premium defenders were season-keepers, while the indefatigable TorresMagic was back to round up the early price rises and drops. Cheers, TM!

COMMUNITY TABLES

There are numerous user-generated tables to pore over this week:

COMMUNITY ARTICLES

We have had some brilliant articles submitted this week, which all proved to be an enjoyable read. TopMarx provided some excellent research into what constitutes a successful season in FPL  looking at how the increase in managers and quantity of players using different websites for advice have both changed the parameters somewhat.

We continued our series of RMTs by having a look at RedLightning’s team for Gameweek 2  while MathewNixon treated us to part two of Everton’s Silva Lining.

COMMUNITY TOURNAMENTS

There was a fast start in FFS Mods and Cons for RedLightning, with TorresMagic and Ragabolly off to flyers too. Deputy editor Skonto Rigga is also currently in the top five after Gameweek 1, narrowly ahead of our very own Joe:

1. RedLightning – 104 points
2. TorresMagic – 98 points
3. Ragabolly – 91 points
4. Skonto Rigga – 90 points
5. Joe – 89 points

Meanwhile, a Bench Boost has fired Vladimir Jelenić to the summit of the public FantasyFootballScout league:

1. Vladimir Jelenić – 133 points
2. Warren Lim – 131 points
3. Ben Wheatcroft – 129 points
4. Andy Davies – 122 points
5. Petri Selkäinaho – 119 points

In our Members’ league, Nick Howard also deployed his Bench Boost chip to great effect:

1. Nick Howard – 129 points
2. Alistair Ross – 118 points
3. Takeshi Igomoto – 117 points
4. Timothy Wright – 112 points
5=. Rickhard Alen/Luke Aiello/Aron Hogni Georgsson – 111 points

Keep switching between Salah and Arnautovic for captain.

Will probably keep it on Salah.

    Thoughts?

Out of those 2, 100% Salah.

Reason I'm going Salah (C) over Aguero:

Aguero may not start > Even if he starts, City may not score (history with Huds), even if City score, Aguero may not be involved, even if he scores, he won't last the full 90.

Whereas Salah will start, Liverpool will score (I think), Salah will definitely be involved in any goal (goal or assist), and he will almost certainly play >80 minutes.

Liverpool scored four last week, Salah only involved in one, so if they only score 1/2 goals this week it doesn’t look good?

It’s a minefield predicting both city and liverpool goal involvement.

Salah missed a sitter and Mane scored an offside goal. Easily could have been involved in 2/4 goals. And based on what I saw Aguero looks low on confidence in front of goal. Too early to trust him with the armband imo.

But i do agree, it's a hard one to predict and hence I'm going with the safer pick. Might have to watch the City game hiding behind the sofa.

You mention "history with Huddersfield", Aguero scored in one and wasn't in the squad when they drew 0-0, by which time the league was mathematically won anyway.
You also fail to mention Liverpool's "history with Palace"

City scoring one goal in 2 matches is a valid observation, even if it's unlikely to be repeated.

I didn't cover all the angles like you said. I just have enough reason to go with Salah.

Huds will sit back and try to get a 0-0 if possible whereas i think Palace will need to come out a bit more since they are at home.

It’s annoying how a single sourceless article with no facts on a website from a second rate newspaper is enough to impact a captaincy decision.

Good team just wasn'tand still not up on Arnie this soon and called Wilson over King. Just don't think King kicks in til later and Wilson always in the mix points wise at starts, then gets crocked. His MO.

Thanks for your input. Yeah I think King will be gone from my team in a few weeks anyway. Arnie was a gut feeling I had that he'd do well against teams like Bournemouth who focus more on attacking. The only thing I wasn't sure on this week was Luiz over Peltier.

Well I don't think a GW with no big-name strikers scoring will be repeated, but I always felt the main value was in a power midfield and premier defence. My GW1 squad had Kun and 2 benchfodder strikers; I've tweaked things to give me 5 midfielders (Kun>Sterling, basically).

If Kane, Aguero or Aubameyang start firing, which is highly likely, you'll have to do some serious reshuffling. But it's a fun team.

    2. Leeroy Jenkyns
      • 13 Years

That's different yeah. I think Jimenez will be the best value pick striker this season. Think he can do 125 mins.

      1. Andy_Social
        • 14 Years
        8 years, 9 days ago

I do think he and Ings will prove decent value for that price. Most weeks they'll be alternating off my bench though.

CBB - yeah, I've thought that through. If it happens I'll just have to suck it up and hope that my defenders keep enough clean sheets and enough goals come from my midfield. Most of these guys are nailed - no transfers unless injured.

    3. Sir David White

Love it, I put together a very similar team but I decided I still want access to Kane/Aub/Kun. Currently rocking with Kun and Jiminez in a 3-5-2 and loving it.

Hmm, I have been torn over United or Chelsea coverage. Toyed with Kepa and Rutiger by downgrading Richarlison to Neves. I concluded Chelsea will still be a bit wobbly adapting to Sarri's tactics for a few weeks while United have great fixtures, and that maybe Mourinho won't have a meltdown just yet!

I would just consider Shaw: I have him and likely will transfer out next week, and I cannot find a replacement I am content with. If you end up wanting to switch to CHE/Bellerin @ 5.5, you will have to switch out Bailley, and leave Shaw, which your not going to want to do. My current conundrum, wouldn't recommend it.

Bailly or Shaw could > Lindelhof though.

Notice I don't believe in 'coverage'. My last draft has 3xCity, 3xLiverpool, 3xUnited and 2xWolves! I'm an all-or-nothing kinda guy!

I've thought about about the Lind. Transfer possibility, but know if I end up making that decision soon after I will probably end up spending another to remove him at the first rotation, Mourinho will only consistently play defenders that he trusts, and he likes a consistent back line, and I don't think he trusts either Shaw or Lindelof.
Good luck though at any rate! think its pretty solid

Trying to second-guess Mou is a nightmare. Lindy just looked damned good last Friday. Actually I've still got time to put him in for Bailly! Thing about my squad is if Mou suddenly drops one of my United defenders, Wan-Bis steps up and I'm perfectly comfortable with that.

Having money in defence and mids rather than forwards doesn’t make it bonkers though, neither does being different to the pack on here either 🙂

Value is in defence and midfield and 9.0 mids outscore 11.0 mill forwards, so why not pick the mids and cheap forwards instead of expensive strikers and cheap mids/defs ?

My most expensive forward is 7.0 mill 😉

Neves has more free kicks in him, safe to start imo.
Kante no, but that's why he's left him on his bench.

On the other hand, Kante was playing in a more advanced role than usual in normal conditions.

Neves was playing against a 10-man Everton.

True. I think Kante will be good for a few assists in his new role, but not prolific. With Neves' dead-ball skills 20 opposition players won't prevent a goal!

Morning DZ. I know I missed out on +0.2 in rises, but I'm really tempted with this -4. Whatcha think?

    Peltier & Sanchez -> Mendy & Pogba

Peltier may not be nailed (and he plays for Cardiff). Pogba is currently on pens and playing well. Mendy is a beast. Sanchez looked sloppy and I don't think I'd ever captain him. And the RMT tool has these moves gaining me 10 points over the next 6 weeks.

    Ederson
    TAA, A Smith, Peltier
    Salah, Mane, Sanchez, Richarlison
    Aguero, Arnie, King

    Stek, Tomkins, AWB, Odoi

I'm not generally a fan of hits in GW2, but that one would tempt me. Given your reasoning I'd say go for it.

Thanks. You reckon it's worth losing A Smith instead of Peltier to bank 0.5m? Not sure I'd be starting A Smith much with Mendy, TAA, Tomkins and AWB...

Any King owners swapped to someone else same price or cheaper?

I'm a big Liverpool fan and think Benteke will score against us - he always does especially now he tries so hard to prove a point against Klopp.

Benteke is one player who always has stats but lost his finishing touch in recent years. I think mitrovic could be good bet after spurs match

Keeping for another game or two. Lots of cheaper replacements coming into view now which is great. My order of preference at the min would be:Ings, Jimenez, then Wilson
