Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 3 set piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the second of a new series of Members articles we assess once again where set play situations can be exploited.

Where this differs from the Set Pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have two rounds of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 3.

Best defender in your opinion for 6.0 or less? Coming on for Davies. Already have Luiz, Robbo and Mendy. Playing 4 at the back.

Trippier better than Davies. Especially if he stays on FKs

Spurs have difficult games coming though and imo they have had most of their crosses coming in from the left.

Probably PVA. Loved owning Davies last season but you just know Rose will play occasionally. Same frustration with Trippier and Aurier.

      Consider a mini-WC if you have 2 x FT

      Not much advantage

Team might get in worse situation as compared to current team. Or even some tactical change that you would like to make.

If -8/-12 solves the problem, better to go with that

    Hi lads,

    Stephens 4.5

Looks like he will go down in price this week? Do I take a hit to get rid of him? Any 4.4 or 4.5 mids playing that won't lose value??

I feel you...but in a few weeks time you may be selling others who made you a profit and it will work out the same...plus you’ll have 4 more points.

as the cheapest nailed 4.4 mid he will become a target for buyers who need that extra 0.1 and come back up anyway
unless you have designs on upgrading that bench slot to a 5m (there are some options there) then presumably its a dead area of the team you never care about and he can sit there all season and give you 2pts when called upon

      1. Supersonic
        • 9 Years

Top advice. Agreed I was considering bilva to mkhi, then upgrading Stephens to a 5.0.

But I reckon I'll just hold him and take the small hit - guaranteed 2bench points

        Cheers pal

On the contrary, I've 2 ft, and if I don't use, I might be tempted to trade him out!

On the other contrary, he's a guaranteed started in a team that just beat United

People expect points from him, but he's there to get a solid 2/3 every week - which he should do!

Not sure I'll be going 352 anytime soon, especially with so much money in expensive full backs, so cheapest mf slot needs to stay at 4.5

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall having read something about price rises.

Do price changes need proportionally more transfers, the further and further away a player's price is from the starting point?

Let's say player X started at 7m and has now lost 0.3m in a couple of weeks. Does it take more and more transfers for him to FALL further in price? and less and less transfers to move towards his starting price?

I hope it made sense and thank you in advance

    1. vova
      • 15 Years
      7 years, 4 months ago

It depends on the ownership I think. So the more owned a player is, the more transfers in/out are needed to change his price and vice versa.

      1. Licious Lizard
        • 12 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

Cheers. So you are actually saying that less and less transfers out are needed for each price fall and more and more transfers in are need for price rises? With no connection to starting price?

Fair enough. Maybe I'm overthinking but unsure about solidity with tot, che, MCI in next 6.
PVA's fixtures to GW9 then LIV seems ideal.

His points/match were equal to or better than Eriksen, Hazard, Mane, Alexis last season, and he's significantly cheaper than them

        6. JohnnyMagrinho
            7 years, 4 months ago

If he was £1m cheaper he'd be in everyone's team; if he was £1m more expensive he'd be in no-ones.

At £8m he's a weird one - feel like there's better value for money in cheaper alternatives and for slightly more investment you'd be expecting a much higher return.

Don't think playing for Jose or Utd helps at the moment. We know the guy is good enough to do what needs to be done, but it'd take a brave person to say he's not going to be emotionally affected enough to let it interfere with his performances.

Just think there's better options at the moment.

I have a slightly different view. He seems to be the only player who can make something happen in that side, they do have good fixtures coming up after sp*rs.

In the Brighton game it took a top drawer save from Ryan to prevent a Pogba goal, and yes he has 2 pens so far. In theory he should be in for a big season in the #10 role if Utd change to that formation. He is a watchlist player and an absolute bargain if Utd click. Doesnt seem like it now, but things change quickly in football

Only been on for about 5 minutes today and already seen several folk considering -8s already.
Try ride it out a little bit folk. 2 weeks really shouldn't have buried that many people from your GW1 team unless you really fkd up.

agree...I'm likely to roll my FT over to next week.
At this stage there is not enough data on certain players to know they will keep doing what they are doing.
Also, some teams and players are really up for it at the start of a season and then fade away.

I don’t get the don’t take hits club....If all it takes is a -8 to sort your team out at this stage then no problem., the points can be made up very easily. I took a -4 last week and got 11 more points than if I didn’t take a hit. Better than using up your WC.

I never said don't take hits. I said I'm on 5 mins and it seems like a lot of people are making a lot of changes after just 2 GWs. Hysteria sets in over certain players. Thankfully my team has been quite rewarding and yeah, a few hits can sort a team - I'm just surprised so many folk find themselves in that position. And I think, unlike yourself, a lot of people may regret those changes.

It’s quite possible they may, but at th end off the day it’s a game and is supposed to be fun. If you have more fun getting in the guys you were on the fence on ore season and have now exploded, then I say go for it. There’s only one winner out of 5,000,000 players so might as well have fun. The difference of 8 points and finishing 85,000 instead of 83,500th is whatever.

I get it. It’s just funny to me how many people on here advise against hits though. My hits last year paid off a net positive result probably 80% of the time I took them, so maybe that’s why I don’t mind them. But to each their own. Good luck this year.

Can't get over how many reactive, flippant people there are on this website.

It's as if last season didn't happen, stats don't exist and there isn't a bunch of analytical tools to utilise as to get a good understanding of what is currently happening.

              Bizarre.

Mental how easily some people are swayed into making horribly poor, rash decisions.

A point every 10 minutes last year for Salah and a point every 15 minutes for Mane over 2 seasons.
Penalties will not cover the difference but the trend for improvement with Mane is probably higher than Salah

I view having a wildcard in the same way as a trapeze artist having a safety net.
More likely to risks when the safety net is in place, but once the net is removed the mind is focused and the moves become more precise.

Have pulled mine already 50/50 whether needed or not, but in a season where we do not need to worry about the transfer window I see less reason to hold onto it.

So even if I am happy with my team I should use the wildcard so I focus more on my transfers?

Sorry this is nonsense, my "good" team now can be a disaster in few weeks as you never know. This is when I'll need my wildcard.

Not worth transfer unless you guarantee players you transfer Could go big. However, Tomkins and Lowton have a nice fixture so its a no from me.

              Last night did:

Boly, BSilva & Tosun > Alonso, Richarlison & Ings for -4pts

Still think it was a decent move, considering price rises & ownership?

              Thanks to Gotham City....

Agreed he is, but also think I’m willing to give it a couple more weeks to see who in City mids will be the one to have.

Then do Salah/Mane > them (Sterling, DSilva, back to BSilva, Mahrez, Sane etc)

Tosun vs Ings is a bit close, so is BSilva > Richarlison

Boly > Alsonso for sure 😀

Haha I don't have any tangible evidence but it can run hot and cold, as you'd expect it follows the obvious best captain pick that week on form/fixture but I'm sure most of last season either kane/Salah were top for most of season, and I remember getting burned by kane several times with blanks against so called lesser teams

Yep. So did a lot of people. Being an informed site, taking the top picks every week will at least stop the massive downside of getting it wrong.
                  Kun a great example.
