The Captain Poll is now open for votes ahead of Gameweek 3 and you can watch our video on the best candidates for the armband below or on our YouTube channel.

The early favourite is, not surprisingly, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) who faces a very appealing home match against a Brighton side, who are notoriously poor on the road.

The Seagulls shipped nine goals in two league matches against Liverpool in 2017/18, four of them at Anfield in Gameweek 38. The Egyptian netted in that match and provided the assist for Dominic Solanke’s (£5.0m) 53rd minute goal too.

His case is, of course, strengthened by being Liverpool’s biggest goal threat against Crystal Palace on Monday night, even if he only managed two assists in the end.

Sadio Mané (£9.8m), owned by 31 percent, should prove a strong alternative candidate bearing in mind he is a must-have option for the 45 percent of Fantasy managers who do not own Salah, and remains ahead of him for both goal tally and FPL total score.

Either way, Liverpool assets are expected to dominate the captaincy debate this week considering that West Ham were the only top flight side to survive relegation in 2017/18 with more shots conceded on the road than Brighton.

Sergio Aguero‘s (£11.1m) hat-trick against Huddersfield on Sunday will naturally give him some backing for the captaincy this week, as Manchester City prepare to travel to the Molineux.

Wolves may have allowed fewer shots on their goal than any other side so far, but the fact that have still conceded four goals in two matches suggests there are areas to exploit for the reigning champions.

Aguero might be at slightly more risk of rotation this weekend but we will, as per usual, wait and see what emerges in the press conferences later this week.

After four assists in just two matches, the highly-owned Benjamin Mendy (£6.1m) is an option for a second week running. In fact, he finished third in the poll behind just Aguero and Salah for Gameweek 2.

After West Ham’s performance at Anfield in Gameweek 1 and a defeat at home to Bournemouth in Gameweek 3, Arsenal assets might also be worth looking at. The favourites there are expected to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m).

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur’s meeting at Old Trafford reduces the appeal of a few usual suspects, namely Paul Pogba (£8.1m), Romelu Lukaku (£11.0m) and Alexis Sánchez (£10.5m) for the Red Devils and Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.5m) from the north London outfit.

I asked earlier who scores more out of Zaha or Arnie for next GW and was surprised to see its fairly even.

I have watched both WH games and they look very disjointed in attack with no real team cohesion.

Do I stick with Arnie or move to Zaha, im looking at this over the next 4-6 game weeks. Me personally, leaning towards Zaha.

    What do you lot think?

Zaha looked very dangerous last night. Overall was impressed by palace and they have some nice fixtures. I’m going with Zaha on WC over Arnie

I don't think Arnie is a good option. I am not convinced that Zaha is much better. I would prefer saving money and going with Mitro/Gray/Jimenez/Ings etc.

same boat here, Zaha feels safer but think Arnie is much more capable of hauling and has 3 decent fixtures attacking-wise - I'm giving him one more week at least I think

Couldn't decide so have gone for both up front with Kun. If either fails to deliver or stops passing the eye test can easily downgrade to Mitro or Ings (who are both also decent options)

You guys are overestimating West Ham's fixture difficulty and Arnie's ability to strike against any defence. He had a great summer and I think he's going to get flying over the next few gameweeks. Let's look at the next 2mths:

GW 3: Arsenal away - as leaky as any 'top side' in the PL. Their back looks a mess and he should profit
GW 4: Home to Wolves - this one screams Arnie brace
GW 5: Everton away - Pickford & Co look delicate atm
GW 6: Home to Chelsea - as we saw in the ARS match Sarri's D love to roam and they'll leave plenty of holes Arnie can expose
GW 7: Home to ManU - DDG very shaky atm and that rotating back line looks a mess. At Old Traff I'd be worried but not at home
GW 8: Brighton away - no issues here
GW 9: Home to Spurs - screams high-scoring goal-fest. 4-2 Spurs with Arnie surely in the points
GW 10: Leicester away - another back line that won't deter Arnie
GW 11: Home to Burnley - the first match that screams 0-0 snoozer

If you upgrade Peltier, who drops out your starting XI? Bennett is 4m and can be your 5th defender when AWB is back for GW 4

Yes this difficult, but i have to use at least one FT. Maybe Gunnarsson to playing 4,5mid.

    3. The Artist
      • 16 Years
      8 years, 20 days ago

I wouldn't do either of those moves. Would possibly think about using your FTs to draft in Arsenal/Chelsea coverage.

With Salah and Mane, you'd be restricted to downgrading one of Zaha/Arnie and using the funds to upgrade Gunnarsson to Mkhi. At first glance, anyways. IMHO.

      1. The Artist
        • 16 Years
        8 years, 20 days ago

with those 3 starting defenders, having a non-playing 4.0 defender (and even whether or not he'll make it back into the squad is an open question) is not a big problem...you probably would rarely consider playing him anyways.

so if you're going to raise funds, do so to upgrade starting attack and get coverage for the sides that WILL be racking up points in the coming GWs.

Got 2 palace and 3 liverpool already including a defender for each, so would probably favour Pereira or Bellerin. Bellerin looks good going forward but woeful defensively, is he nailed?

Lets debate Mkhi vs Richarlison. Both relatively in form, Richarlison is more nailed. Mikhi plays in a team that will create more chances. is it crazy to go with Mikhi ahead of Richarlison?

No I think Mkhi will do well with the fixtures, Arsenal's season starts this week.

Why is Tosun not mentioned in the mid priced striker debate alongside Arnie and Zaha?

Everton look on good attacking form and their next 5 fixtures or so are brilliant. He is also a locked starter upfront on his own

Had him first two weeks. Never plays the full 90, chases everything down.

He's more a 1 in 3 man I think, contributes well to the play but is really unlikely to bring home a double digit haul.

Despite his attacking potential, Firmino has been poor in delivering significant returns so far in FPL. Does anyone envisage a price drop seeing that Salah and particularly Mane are doing at the moment? Would you transfer Firmino out with this in mind?

      A) He's Klopp's favourite out of the trio
      B) He's an intelligent player and he will deliver.
      C) The best in his price bracket by far.
      D) A differential for next two GWs then shipping out with Mane for two Gunners.

    Begovic (fabianski)
    Shaw, TAA, Mendy (AWB, Bednarek)

    My current team:

    Foster
    Mendy Luiz van Dijk
    Salah (c) Bilva Richarlison Fraser
    Zaha Aguero Firmino

Bench - M. Ryan, Tomkins, Cairney, Suttner
Thinking about trying to get Mkhitaryan in, or Kante in for Cairney

Tomkins to Wan-Bissaka and save .5. Tomkins looks set to drop this week. Wan-B misses next 2 but looks a great prospect. I’d be happy with what you have till you see how Arsenal set up against easier opposition
