Watchlist Update – Arsenal fixture swing and Alonso form are key changes

Our Watchlist player rankings have now been revised following the first two Gameweeks of the 2018/19 season.

The Watchlist can be found in your sidebar on desktop, or via your slide-in menu on mobile or tablet. It acts as a collection of our current thoughts on player selection for each position, also citing the factors that affect their ranking on the list.

As a general rule, we try to commit to just one player per position per club. However, in some cases we where we believe double-coverage is advisable, two players will be listed instead. We’ve got further examples of that this week.

Form continues to play the overriding role in the factors available to us given that we are just two weeks into the season.

GOALKEEPERS

Ederson (£5.5m) sits atop the list of goalkeepers still, even if Manchester City failed to keep a clean sheet against Huddersfield. Even still, his assist for Sergio Aguero’s (£11.1m) first goal means he has averaged 6.5 points per game so far this season, and still has a favourable run of fixtures.

Petr Cech (£5.0m) rises slightly now that Arsenal have come out on the other side of a tough opening two Gameweeks and now face a more favourable run of matches.

Despite Cardiff’s tough fixtures, Neil Etheridge (£4.5m) simply had to go into the Watchlist after saving two penalties in as many Gameweeks.

DEFENDERS

Now without a rotation risk, Marcos Alonso’s (£6.6m) third attacking return in two Gameweeks sees him jump up the rankings. The Chelsea man is now behind only Benjamin Mendy (£6.2m) and Andrew Robertson (£6.0m), who remain the top two. Both players are still in top form and continue to have great fixtures.

Luke Shaw (£5.1m) receives similar treatment now that he has two two goal involvements in as many Gameweeks to the start the 2018/19 campaign.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s (£4.1m) red card in Gameweek 2 rules him out of Gameweek 3, damaging his appeal somewhat. However, the extreme value he offers in a strong defence means the Crystal Palace man remains in the Watchlist for his Gameweek 4 return.

Steve Cook (£4.6m) has shot right up after his goal and assist against West Ham, adding to his six-point haul from Gameweek 1.

Ricardo Pereira (£5.0m) makes a deserved appearance in the list after making it two assists in two as Leicester beat Wolves in Gameweek 2. As you will have seen from our latest Big Numbers article, he has the potential for more attacking returns this season.

After returning from World Cup leave in Gameweek 2, Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) gets a mention now that he has wrestled some set piece responsibilities away from Christian Eriksen (£9.5m).

MIDFIELDERS

The form and fixtures of Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), Richarlison (£6.8m) and Sadio Mané (£9.8m) make them the top three midfield options in FPL right now.

Joining them in the top four of the Watchlist is Arsenal man Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.1m) after his goal and assist against Chelsea. The Gunners now have a run of favourable games until a home meeting with Liverpool in Gameweek 11. The only factor that could detract from Mkhitaryan’s appeal is a slight risk of rotation with Arsenal’s front-three a little unsettled currently.

Pedro (£6.6m) remains the highest Chelsea option after scoring twice in the first two Gameweeks, although he still carries some rotation risk. That’s because Eden Hazard (£10.5m) is pushing a return to the side although Maurizio Sarri still seems to insist he is not ready to start matches yet.

Even though he played at right wing-back against Huddersfield and was not involved in any of Manchester City’s goals, Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) keeps his place as the highest rated midfielder from the champions, simply on account of his likelihood of starts. The absence of Kevin de Bruyne (£9.8m) and his versatility make him harder to drop than most of his team-mates right now. Meanwhile, Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) loses his place in the list having registered just 85 minutes in two matches so far.

Ryan Fraser (£5.5m) receives a boost as his form continues ahead of long period of appealing fixtures for Bournemouth. The Scottish winger now has a goal and an assist in his first two outings with a porous Everton defence up next for him at the Vitality Stadium. James Maddison’s (£6.5m) first goal of the season also sneaks him into the Watchlist.

FORWARDS

That Arsenal fixture swing has propelled Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) up the rankings. However, he is still marked with a C for form after failing to record any attacking returns in the first two Gameweeks.

Conversely, Callum Wilson (£6.1m) has three to his name making it very difficult for us not to push him up the Watchlist with Everton coming to Bournemouth this week.

Harry Kane (£12.5m) is also on the rise after finally proving he is capable of scoring a Premier League goal in August. However, we can’t attach fixtures as factor to him until after Tottenham have got a Gameweek 3 trip to Manchester United out of the way.

Differential Danny Ings (£5.5m) has managed 10 goal attempts in the first two matches, getting himself a goal against Everton in Gameweek 2. While Southampton’s fixtures are a little uninspiring, the former Burnley and Liverpool man can offer value at his price point.

Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) continues to fall down the Watchlist. Salah and Mané are clearly the go-to attacking options with defence also needed to be covered by the three-player Liverpool allocation.

Stankovic and Guendouzi are no-go. Hamer will probably lose his place, but he's 4.0. Bennett is also at risk. I would swap the entire bench, get AWB despite missing this GW.

Why no-go? They are all viable bench material although it's painful not having 0.1m to have Wan-Bis.

Thats because Torreria isnt up to speed after the WC. Guendouzi have started two games. He will in all likelyhood lose his place eventually, and you wont get any returns anyway so just as well go for Stephens or some nailed on bench option.

Big arsenal fan here, guendouzi will start most games, xhaka is the one who drops for torreira, was brought off at half time against Chelsea

As an Arsenal fan, I can see same potential for returns as Kante and cheaper by 0.5. Plus I don't see him being dropped, he's one of the players most suited to Emery's pressing game unlike Xhaka who is way to lazy in midfield. He can compliment Torreira.

You guys may be right, I'm no Arsenal expert. In any case, I don't see why you would pick him in your fpl team over another nailed on 4.5 option.

Thanks for the feed back. I can do Pedro to Milner and upgrade the bench? Awb might lose his place so I'm going to see with that one

AWB has been really good and will go straight back in the XI. Hodgson even said that he didnt blame him at all post-match. Wouldnt go Milner as he's not nailed either, Pedro is worth a punt. If you go Stankovic -> 4.5 def as you got 0.5 ITB thats much better.

    (Bottomed last page sorry)
Hi guys, trying to bring in Richarlison this weekend, belatedly.

    Would you?
    A) VVD / Shaw / Cairney >>> TAA / 4.0 / Richarlison (for a -4 hit)
    B) B Silva >>> Richarlison
    C) Something else?

    Currently, I'm on 0.0ITB, 2FT:

    Hamer (Patricio)
    VVD / Shaw / Mendy (Peltier / Wan-Bis)
    Salah / Mane / B Silva / Neves / Cairney
    Aguero / Auba (Kamara)

    Thanks!

None are ideal. A seems nice, but risky getting another 4.0. On the other hand Shaw probably needs to go sooner rather than later. Another possibility is to downgrade Cairney -> 4.5 this week to get some spare cash and wait for Richarlison one more week.

I remember years ago I sat and watched Dzeko bang in four while I had Aguero. Transferred Dzeko in the next week and got rid of Aguero, who then scored three while Dzeko sat on the bench.

    Here's a question for discussion...

Why are people so blinded and quick to jump on players that have one good game week?

Even the scouts do it... DISABLE after one week wildcards?! The scouts all flocking to mhki...

Time and time again we see everyone rush to last week's scorer in pursuit of points already gone...

Is it not very much the case if mhki score last week aub will have his turn this? Neves points week one... still he took enough players to bump his price up... no points 2nd week.

At what point do we think we should jump to player? 2 or 3 consistent weeks? Proven pedigree that they go on runs like firmino? Or should the patient just sit back and watch the inpatient jump from points lost to points lost....

Every season is different. This season if you've had a bad start then a WC early is almost essential with the massive points most people have achieving.

      1. Kemosabe1
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

Why is it essential? U picked it players for a reason.... u spent weeks maybe months carefully selecting and after one week (much changed to late worldcupers) and u throw it out.... and in like a case... actually getting less points week two than if u kept the original team....

    3. QuintonFortune25
      • 7 Years

Mkhitaryan isn't just a pick based on last week. We know he has real quality and has an eye for goal. He is massively underpriced and has a brilliant run of fixtures, hence why the scouts are flocking to him.

      1. Kemosabe1
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

Why are we basing real quality on? His time before the prem league? He hasn't hit the ground running yet... and has potential I agree... but people flock in masses to players cos they have a singular good game week. Some times patience is key

I just find it silly wen people say he's the best choice there.... we don't know enough yet

Exactly. People that jumped on Mendy, Mane, Richarlison and Alonso after GW1 are pretty happy I'm sure.

        Some bandwagons pay off.

I would say all of them have proven themselves before. Had great seasons last season and for some even seasons before that... alot of players we jump to don't tho.

It's like the media... wilshire scores a goal in a game and suddenly he should be set for an England call up... he's the world's best again... vvd on the edge of "legendary status".... maybe it's just the world we live in

There more rush to bringing a player in that scored last week and then scores again... than sitting and waiting to determine if luck or form is in play..

During Preseason there is a lot of talk about patience. Once the season starts and points and price changes start flying about, there is panic ... and strategies go out of the window.

I spose it all comes down to if u have a good start or not... those that see themselves lose ground immediately want to make it up just as quick...

Those that do well have no need to changed it

Think you need to look at the player, past form, upcoming fixtures and likely future form.

      There's no set answer.

I watched Mendy in the first game and knew I had to get him in ASAP so I took a hit for Peltier + Sanchez -> Mendy + Bilva. I wasn't chasing the previous weeks points, I knew more points like that were coming from him.

For your last question i think it depends on what we already know about the player. For instance Alonso is a proven premier league point scorer so he isn't just being picked based on the last two gameweeks but also on the past few seasons. New players who we don't know how they will perform in the premier league should be a wait and see. Jota for example, I personally shouldn't have had him from the get go but did based on his low price, now find myself transferring him out.

My point exactly tho... the proven greats... Alonso aguero kane Salah Robertson all make sense.... aub shown last season he's consistent

But why do those rush to get in neves mhki pogba holebas Wilson maddison all players that haven't proved them selves in the prem yet... people are to quick to jump...

Mkhitaryan was on many people's radars before the season started tbh. They just needed to see how he fits Emery's system. He now has a great run of fixtures coming up, plays in an attacking team and is only 7.0.

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.

I think it make ssense if the pkayer is proven and has a great run of fixtures coming up.

It made sense historically when the price market was much more volatile, not so much these days.

Apart from that, not much reason to quickly jump on, unless it’s for reasons of pride and not wanting be seen as last to the party if the bandwagon does really take off.

Your thinking that players scoring one week means they are not (or less) likely to score in subsequent weeks is flawed though. ‘Form’ or players going on runs is a real thing, statistically proven.

Not thinking that for every player... the likes of aguero Salah kane mane... can do it week after week.

One good week does not mean form tho... how do we make sure we know form from luck?

My discussion start from those ignoring aub and saying mhki is the safe pick? One has proven himself much more than the other

Some players are fixed in our team, and we then have about 3 or 4 places we tinker with to try to ride the ‘high ceiling’ of those slots - Mkhi is one such player in one such slot, he looks in good form and has good stats, seems to be a starter and has great fixtures.

Buying Mkhi now makes more sense than two weeks ago when we did not know if he would start and he had tough fixtures ... this for me is patients ...

There seems to be bit of a belief on here that it is better to wait and do nothing rather than be bold and trust our judgement in changing our teams,

Buying a player who has no underlying stats etc but just happened to score 2 goals is silly (Clucas last season for example) and chasing points, but this is not the case imho for Mikhi for the reasons explained above ...

In fact there are just 3 large bangwagons:
      Mendy - hugely underpriced. Receive common attention;
      Richarlison - this guy is the next big thing in the Premiership and it is obvious;
Mane - outscored Salah 2 weeks in a row and will do the same at least 20 from the 36 left. Because he can score with one touch. Salah can`t, he always need to control the ball first and will have more close marking to him this season.
Other players have little price and owners impact and is individual feeling, who will score in long term or not.

I think you've got a point, but you're pointing it at the wrong players.

People jumping on players new to the Prem that got a single screamer with bad xG and a horrible heat map is one thing.

People jumping on Mkhitaryan, a ~7 pretty nailed on Arsenal attacker who's already scored points and has a fantastic run of fixtures is something different completely.

I agree on Firmino types, if the stats look good on proven quality assets, wait and see what happens.

I agree with u.... and through out the season people will jump at a player purely because he gets a brace one week instead of him having good stats...

I spose it's a "goals imminent" thing for me... avid supporter of players being due goals that put the stats in

    14. barrybigyin

For me, the volatile price changes are one reason why I would jump on a bandwagon this season. The fact that someone like Mane has gone from 8.5 to 8.8 and we're only 2 games into the season is alarming. Richarlison has also gone up by .3.

However, I've decided that I won't be jumping on any bandwagons for unproven players or guys im 50/50 on until I've seem them play a full game. I watched Arsenal v Chelsea at the weekend and Mhiki had a great game. Arsenal are really working on those drag back crosses and I can see Mhiki getting more assists and goals for himself. His price and fixtures make him a decent pick even with rotation risk.

I know you may not take my advice, but..

I think the best way to go is to make your heavy hitters differentials. If you pick different expensive players than the Scout picks, and the Scout's choices don't perform, you can really hit it big.

It depends on if you want to just try to beat the Scout Picks or go for a huge margin of victory, I think

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

With Aguero defining our GW2 fortunes those who captained him saw huge benefit. Going forward however there is, arguably, the lingering doubt over his starts, even though Pep has been very encouraging.

An Aguero captain means that 13.0m Salah will not get the captiancy - is this something that bothers you? Of course Salah will still get the points but for many managers that is too much to spend on a player who is not captained.

Are you considering dropping Salah? Why or why not?

For me, there is certainly a psychological block for me to not captain Salah after being burned many times last year, which might mean I don't share the captaincy around like I should.

Is looking at moving out Salah a good option? Will you look at having Mane instead? Is it too early to look at Kane and Lukaku?

What are your thoughts on how to manage your heavy hitters?

          Me too.

I'm keeping him for GW3 and GW4 (lei), but will re-assess after this. At this stage, looking to transfer out to either Hazard or to fund Kane/Auba, depending on who is most in form of those three.

Plan is to transfer Salah back in after GW8. I think it'll be a great differential, especially as I won't captain him for 3 of those matches (and can captain Mane who is currently equalling Salah anyway)

If I was wild-carding now I would go without Salah & have a premium defense of - Mendy, Alonso, Robertson. Mane has started well and will carry on like this. I believe he will be a player that will have stepped up a level and won't be far off the top points scorer in a Liverpool side that will win or be close to winning the title.

Decently easy to get that defence and Salah, and Mane.

My problem with the above is I can't get Hazard, or any other big hitters, but for now that's not really a pressing problem

Yeah, it's just a question of when to do Salah>Hazard. However, I remember last year Chelsea had the easiest run of fixtures and Hazard didn't deliver at all throughout.

This. Have been looking at his output the last two seasons (one of which was title-winning) and its not stellar. 16G 5A in 16-17 and only 12 and 4 last season. Granted, different system etc. but that's still an unknown atm. I'll be watching his performances for sure, but he's not a player I consider essential yet.

This Chelsea team is creating lots of chances and Hazard's output will definitely increase imo. Comparing to Napoli's team gives more input than comparing to Chelsea's past seasons' team.

Whilst I agree with you that Chelsea are creating and that can only be good for Hazard, it doesn't follow that we should look at Napoli, because only Jorginho is the same from that squad. Its rather like saying we should expect Man Utd to play like Real Madrid because of Jose. Yes, there's a system but the individuals within it affect the outcome.

Salah still looks like one of the PL's most dangerous players, and therefore I believe he is a must, even if not captained. he was VERY unlucky not to score against CP considering how many good opportunities he had.

Here's hoping he comes roaring back against Brighton to remind us all why he is FPL's most expensive player

How does the money go a long way when you've replaced 13 mil with 12.5 mil? That's only 0.5 mil. Based on the form this season alone, Salah is better than Kane, bring in the up coming fixtures, last season's displays, and I am completely lost

If you plan to never captain Salah then you should absolutely remove him, your PPM return will never be worth it. Also you're an insane person...

Basically I plan to captain whoever has the easiest fixture out of Salah and Aguero, if they are both easy you captain the one at home.

Hazard is such a frustrating player to own in my experience. He is great to watch when he can be bothered, but he also has games where he just fails to turn up and is almost anonymous. Many times i can recall this against easier teams. He feels such a lottery. I would honestly rather have Alonso or Pedro. Sure, Haz will get one big haul this session as he usually does, but its pot luck on hitting that. Do you just pay the 10.5 and keep him for week waiting on that?

If Salah can return 20 goals and 10 assists this session he is worth the price over Hazard in my view.

Its really annoying as Hazard is great to watch when at his best - it just seems his best only really turns up from time to time!

While his ownership is above 45% to 50%, he is too dangerous to drop.

      It's a game with 14 players and a £87m budget now.

Owning Salah, and therefore captaining him every is boring, so personally I won't be owning him all year. Just my personal way of playing the game (my OR stinks by the way, so don't take this as a winning formula)

I have gone without Salah from the start and haven't missed out so far.

Mane outscoring him for 3.5 million less. Aguero (so far) the better captain option.

Every game is hide behind the sofa though, but just think the money is better spread elsewhere (I have all of Aguero, Firm, Auba, Mane + premium defence)

I'm very much considering Salah and Zaha to Hazard and Auba next week after Brighton.

I'll have Mane as source of liverpool points, but it would be very uncomfortable viewing. Salah's returns last year were against all opponents - off the top of my head, he scored against all the other top 6 sides except Man U (please correct me if I'm wrong). He is so consistent as well.

Safe to keep, but having Hazard, Auba, Aguero and Mane too tempting

Salah - will most always return points. He’s an essential and is continuing his point scoring form of last year. Cheaper options such as Mané and Firmino return in spells (not season keepers - I know current Mané owners will feel an attachment once they get his price rises and don’t want to cash in on the profit).

Kane - you will need him once he starts to score and his fixtures come good. He will have a bandwagon and it will punish you as a non-owner.

Agüero - The most essential of the strikers. Possible rotation of cluster of tough games to accommodate good fixtures of other premium.

Lukaku - doesn’t really score more than one when he scores. Not a major hauler/Not much bang for buck but will return above average scores. A very good double gameweek player though if fixtures are good. Bully.

Aubameyang - a luxury asset once you have Salah and Agüero and will be prioritised below Kane. Not returning yet this season, but not been given a chance. I may bring in soon with his good fixtures once I see him play like a Auba of last year, not like Morata of last year.

De Bruyne - could well have been an essential over the next 5 weeks if he wasn’t injured. His absence makes it easier for us. Silver linings.

Sanchez - he had his chance for me already this season. Flopped. Maybe gets another shout later in season if he shows his potential and has form and fixtures on his side. A definite avoid for now.

Hazard - 4th on priority list behind Salah Agüero Kane. We know what he can do, what he does, what he will do. What a World Cup. Looked incredible in his minutes so far. I’d be scared as a non-owner when he plays the likes of Cardiff.

I usually have 3 big hitters consistently in season. 4 at peak times. Right now only on 2 (Salah and Agüero) with an upgraded defence.

Firmino owner too but I’d not class him as heavy hitter at that price. Probably out the door after Brighton match.

I mean there's no harm in having multiple captaincy options within your team (as some of us are finding out;) ). Salah's EO is a pain in the arse but when Aguero outscores him when you captain him you will invariably get a green arrow.

You don't have to captain a 13m player every single week to justify owning him, that will always depend on fixtures.

If Salah's your default captain I'm not bothered to switch the armband for a week or 2. It's also always nice to have more than one option for the armband.

Will keep Salah and captain most weeks. At the moment I have Mané and aguero as my other expensive players and I was al set to captain aguero for Huddersfield until the guardian story. I may possibly change aguero if he does get rotated but he’d be for another heavy hitter like Aubameyang. I don’t beleive in all this no point in owning if you don’t captain every week with the heavy hitters as you should be able to have a choice of good captains in your team. Il be keeping Salah as a safe captain pick though when there are no other stand out options.

It seems such an obvious choice of Salah + Kun, I don’t understand why so many people think they have to do something different. Isn’t safer and smarter to just pick them and focus on getting your other 13 players right?

Already have Salah and Aguero, and next move will be Bilva to Hazard as I have 3.5 in the bank.

Doesn't matter to me if I have multiple premium options - it's safe to say that those three this year will be the bandwagons of the year imo and if you can fit all three in then you'll be maximising your chances of big points every week rather than hoping for "lucky" returns from the cheaper options.

I own Salah, Mane, Aguero and Aubameyang as my heavy hitters.

I have no problem in not captaining Salah in certain fixtures, just like this past GW where I gave Aguero the armband.

However having Salah in my squad at 13m and not captaining him, does not bother me. Captain or not captain he is a very worthy player to own in our sides. All this talk about not being good enough for 13m, the man is averaging 8.5 points per game and looks like he is playing how he did last season. The value in the 13m is that it guarantees points, and that’s why I’m paying the price not just for his captaincy role. I don’t “need” to captain him to make him value, in my eyes he’s value already for his consistency and the ease of being able to indentify him as a player who will score well and regularly. Other players will certainly be better “value” in regards to points per million than him over the season but it will take a lot of luck to pounce on those exact players all at the right time to justify Salah’s exclusion.

Price shouldn’t be a factor in regards to captaining a player, or should be who is going to get the most points end of.

Saying you have to captain Salah because he is 13m is as bad as saying you should captain players that are cheap like Mahrez when he was 5.5m the other season or Kane at around 6m etc, etc. Price should not be a a deciding factor. Fixtures and form should be.

Salah will definitely leave my team at some point this season but it won’t be for long spans.

Looking at GW5 or GW7 to sell him but will immediately bring him back once Pool’s fixtures turn.
Thinks it’s too scary not to own him for good fixtures when he is so highly owned and captained.
But selling him at the right tome for tough fixtures might yeild good returns.

All the negative Haz comments seem to be centred on last year, when Chelsea were clearly not ok regarding harmony and tactics. They missed Costa big time. Hazard was affected in general. He will go back to producing hauls more consistently, starting with a brace v Bournemouth!

I am on WC and dropping Salah, Mahrez, BSilva, 4.4 mid for Hazard, Mane, DSilva, Mkhi (have Richarlios as 5th mid). I am scared of Salah ofc but think that Mane could continue to do well coz it seems like teams are much more attention moving towards closing Salah witch gives much more space to Mane. Maybe I am wrong but dont think that Salah will outscore Mane with 100 points margin.
On the other hand, really want Hazard in my team. Probably because of Sarri - Mertens situation, it seems to me that Hazard could be in 9 position for some games and ofc he would be Chelsea main man overall. And most people with Salah will not have Hazard too, so its really like Salah vs Hazard for me and I am betting on Belgian maestro

4.5.1 FORMATION, CAPTAIN SALAH EVERYWEEK, NO PREMIUM FORWARDS

I'm keeping Salah and putting armband on him all season unless he gets injured. I believe he will score 300 points again this season. In other words x2 equates to 600 points guaranteed from one player. I don't think possible to guess when he will blank indeed he vary barely blanks.

At the start of the season I looked at the total points of players at the end of the previous season and see that the premium defenders scores match all but the top few forwards. This year I think there 5 or 6 premium defenders who all all likely to score as highly as most forwards again and so I'm putting forward my plan for playing at least 4 of these premium defenders every week.
That offers far better value for money therefore, particularly when combined with one nailed on captain choice of Salah meaning don't need to pay for any premium strikers.

So this season I'm not being tempted by Aguero or Aubyangang. Why
A, it would tempt me to take armband off Salah and over a season chances are would miss one of his hauls and those premier strikers would blank. Experience shows it's very difficult to get captain choice right when moving it around.
      B. Look at Agueros history, he has never scored more that 216 over a season (211, 121, 156, 216, 184, 175, and last year 169).
There is. There is no reason to think he will stay injury / rotation free enough to score more than say 200 points this season ( 100 less than Salah last season and also not that much more than other man City assets scores from last season such as Mahrez 195 points (9.0), Sane 179 points (9.5) D Silva 169 points (8.4)

Remember Kane scored and average of circa 215 points over last 4 seasons too.

There is much better value in premium defenders and premium midfielders

So this season I am going to be mainly playing 4.5.1 or 4.4.2 occasionally.

There is just much better VFM in defence and midfield. I would have been tempted to play 5 heavy hitters at the back but emergence of a nailed on 4.0 Wan Bissaka is too hard to ignore.

      So my squad/ team
      DEFENCE
4 premium defenders with price paid
      Robertson 6.0
      Mendy 6.0
      Robertson 6.0
Tripper 6.0 (brought in this week hogging so many of the Erikson corners and free kicks no brainer)
      Plus Wan Bissoko 4.0
fire and forget defence - I think the premium defenders here will average around 160 points each which will be more than most forwards (apart from those handful priced over £11m normally might be 4 or 5 who score more than 160

      MIDFIELD
      Salah 13m
      Mane 9.5m
      Mhikatarian 7.0m
Mahrez 9.0m ( rotation risk but Im pretty sure he will still end up with 200 plus points over the season in that team even if plays fewer employees minutes than at Leicester where he scored 195 last season ...
      Pedro £6.5m

      Think this lots will score over season 300, 200, 155, 210, 155

      FORWARDS
Arnotivic 7.0m ( happy with his likely 140 points at that price)
Wilson 6.0m ( happy with his likely 125 points at that price)
Kamara 4.5m ( bench fodder will never play him)

This squad is currently valued at 101.2 as I have grabbed price rises.

There are lots of variations on the theme so go mitro (6.5) or Ings (5.5) up front, or B Silva (7.6) or D Silva (8.4) in midfield,

But I do think this year could be good one to load up on premium defenders and midfielders take deep breadth and
avoid any premium forwards and play the value game. Salah (c) every week allows this to happen this season as don't need premium striker as alternative captain with this approach. Thoughts?

138 points, missed out on Agueros haul. I’m on wildcard at the moment.
2 weeks is early days so gonna stick with this strategy.
Forgot to mention got a 4.5 and 4.0 goalkeeper option. Relying on Fabiansk save points hasn’t worked so far. Who is the best 4.5m goalkeeper. Not into spending more than 4.5 on keeper. Don’t think value is there. Might just stick with Fab as he will her save points over season.

and they’re all staying in my team with Wan Bissoko unless any get injured.

So I’m after the best 4.5 keeper just noticed Hennessy fixtures for palace look good and they look strong defensively, think he is a better option than Fabianski for next 6 or 7 weeks

Honestly, I will probably thump the table, tears, mild panic, regret then mini wildcard with -12 to reshape team.

I hope to stick to the plan of 4 premium defenders. I think as long as I am patient strategy will pay off for reasons on my earlier post. Big part of it is that a salah must continue with his form of last season so I can rely on just that one captain every week.

To be honest I've got bigger things to worry about.
I'm trying to work out who to replace Pickford with (premium reliability or cheap saves?).
Looking out for a weak link in my 5-man defence (Bellerin? Bavies?) and keeping an eye on which mid / striker to upgrade to when I sell one of them for Wan-Bissaka and switch to 4-4-2.
Salah has good underlying stats, returns in both matches so far, and is nailed on. Hazard, Auba, or Kane will have to start doing VERY well in order to draw my attention.

Sounds like you have similar plan to me with heavy on defence where we perceive value to be. I’m thinking value at the 4.5 keeper level is with Hennessy as palace fixtures decent and their defensive record excellent over 10-12 games now.
Alternative is Fulham keeper - save points and the likely occasional clean sheet at home Starting this weekend.
Was on Fabianski for his save points with the occasional clean sheet but his fixtures and West Ham form awful. Likely to switch back to Fabianski if they start showing any form in defence.

If Salah keeps performing like last season (8,5ppgame), which he has so far, I see no reason to not keep him, even though you might not captain him every game.

The money needs to end up somewhere on the pitch, and the more expensive a player gets, the less likely he is to compete with the "value" of cheap options. Players priced 6m or less, might in some cases offer a value of 0,8-1,0 points per million or a VAPM of 0,5-0,7. This is near impossible for players priced between 9.0-13.0.

However, you have to maximize your budgetspend to maximize your points. And if Salah kan keep up his 8.5ppgame average, he doesnt have to be permacap to be worth it. Even players priced 9.0 will struggle to beat the value of Salah at that rate, because they would need to get 220-230 points.

That does'nt mean that I wont entertain the idea of going salahless at some stage. Pending on how my team looks after the first international, I might just go that route. If there's no other pressing issues, i do fancy getting juggling some of the other heavyhitters during gwks 5-8. Those on the shortlist of that experiment would be: Hazard, Sterling, Alli, Kane, Aubameyang and Laca.

One thing that put me off Mane is that the most minutes he has managed in a season is 2599. In his three other seasons he is averaging 2200. I wanted somebody who didn’t miss 10+ matches a season.

I think we overthink these things. With the summer signings, Liverpool only got stronger. Which means the likelihood of Salah still getting to 300 points is there. Research has pointed out that the only instances where we need to worry are when Liverpool play top 5 competition away from home. Other than that, he's still the best auto-captain this game has seen, perhaps ever.

I've said it elsewhere in these pages, I think Kane is one of those players you wait for him to kick in then have to pounce quick. He's not there yet, but as soon as he is wildcard will get him in for me, if another way way is not viable.

Really don't mind owning and not captaining Salah if it means I still get Salah's points while captaining Aguero for a hatty.

No plans to ditch Salah (own Mane too). Even fixtures won't turn me off such is his consistency and class.

Alonso is another big hitter for me now, so glad to have him back on board. Agree with others on here Hazard is far to patchy to spend 10.5m on. Alonso + possibly Pedro though, could be much better use of funds imo.

There are two reasons to pay big money for a heavy hitter:
      1. Higher chance of explosions.
      2. Consistency.

Salah got 300+ points last season. If your season got you 2200 points in total, he scored 2 players’ worth of points. Without considering captaincy. Easy.

Keeping salah to gw7 when lpool has Chelsea away and city home.

Will get kane for those as he has hudds away and Cardiff home....

I understand the psychological rationale but unfortunately it flawed. The captaincy should always go to whoever you think has the highest points expectation. That decision has to be independent of their price.

And since I don't expect Salah to be my highest scorer every week, I'll be moving the armband frequently.

Does that make him worth less to me? Yes.

Does it mean he's not worth £13m? Time will tell.

As per the HT on Liverpud/Salah, you captain Salah in all games bar away games v the top 5.

Rest of the time captain Kun.

      Simples.

    Hart Fabianski
    Bellerin, DLuiz, Robertson, Wan-Bissaka, Bednarek

    Arni, Arguero, Aubamayang

    Too audacious to Wildcard now?

Probably. If you were going to wildcard, you might have as well done it on Saturday/Sunday before a lot of popular WC picks rose in price.

"Form continues to play the overriding role in the factors available to us given that we are just two weeks into the season."

Why should form play the overriding role when we only have two weeks of data? Surely that should say fixtures? Recommending Etheridge when he plays for the relegation favourites with terrible upcoming fixtures because he "simply had to go into the Watchlist after saving two penalties in as many Gameweeks" is down right lazy. You are recommending getting him in based on what? That he's gonna keep saving penalties week after week? I don't know if it's just me but the quality of articles has gone downhill significantly over the last couple of years

I agree on the watchlist - there are some knee jerky picks on there. I've no idea why Shaw is 4th for defenders for example when he will be dropped soon.

The article quality has dipped. You would expect that with titans like Paul, Mark and Jonty putting their pens down, but it is still of a high standard. Especially compared to other FPL sites.

Maybe I am being a bit harsh but I think in the past I would expect FFS to give a bit of consideration to their picks and be brave enough not to recommend the likes of Etheridge beyond just what they did last week.

    Mkhi is causing me anxiety.

I had him in my first draft, and took him out last minute, and kept Lacazette as my Arsenal man. I now have him for this week on my WC.

Those games where Laca and Auba played or Laca came on, Auba was pushed out to the left as I understand, so Iwobi more likely to give way.

    1 transfer left

    A) Downgrade DDG to free up money for next week
    B) Bilva to Mhky
    C) Both A and B, use money to swap Tark for Alonso - Total 8 point drop.

    Team currently
    DDG / (Hamer)
    Tark/ Mendy / Roberson / (WanBiss / Bednarek)
Salah / Mane / Richarl / Bilva (Cairney)
    Aguero / Jimenez / Zaha

    Need some quick advice people..

    Current squad:

    Pickford
Daniels - Mendy - Mee - Van Dijk
    Neves - Mane - Salah - Mhkitaryan
    Aguero - Aubameyang
    Sub: Boruc - Kamara - Stephens - Wan-Bissaka

    0 ITB, 2 FT.

As I now have two transfers.
What I have been thinking is:
    Van Dijk -> Alexander Arnold
    Kamara -> Ings

Hurts to take out Van Dijk but need it to fund a third playing striker.
Of course Van Dijk is going to get his goal eventually, but the assists will surely come for TAA as well?
And he must stop getting those yellow cards..

Do you think these are good moves or do you have any other ideas?

    Really appreciate your feedback.
