The Fantasy Football Scout Community have been busy at work again this week, producing the usual excellent array of articles and tables to help with our planning for Gameweek 4.

The hot topics, meanwhile, have ranged from short-term absentees to Liverpool assets and everything in between.

Our latest Community Round-up feature has it all covered.

The Hottest Topics

Celt Abroad kicked off the Gameweek 3 reaction with a look at the possible replacements for Richarlison, who was sent off in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

With Richarlison in mind, Gregor asked if we should sell or keep our short-term absentees and looked at the new suspension rules.

Our regular “Rough with the Smooth” thread turned up the usual success stories and horror tales, while flaming_iles discussed his own excellent start using the RMT tool.

DortmundisLove revealed the past statistics that don’t bode well for defence-heavy teams, meanwhile.

The discussion about Liverpool assets continued, with Rainer looking at the Reds’ fixtures in between the two international breaks.

Legomane floated his method of combating the impact of price falls, while RedLightning examined the overall FPL leader’s early chip usage.

The Gameweek 4 planning started with tambourineman‘s round-up of the weekend’s referees, before G-Whizz gave his weekly clean sheet probabilities, match odds and “Doosra stats”.  We also speculated on the breakout players of this coming Saturday/Sunday.

Jekori highlighted the excellent Fulham/West Ham rotation, while Reckoner looked at the best £4.5m midfielders. On the subject of budget assets: what do we do with blister victim Danny Ings?

Concerning the site itself, Benster gave some frank comments on the Scoutcast while we had a live Hall of Fame update for the first time this season.

Finally, there was a fond farewell to Niemi as a mod – but a warm welcome to Rotation’s Alter Ego.

Community Tables

Among the many, many fine tables created this week were the following efforts:

beans_on_toast

sun_jihai

drewshape

Keep your tables coming in for inclusion in our weekly round-up, with a title and description always appreciated to explain the purpose of the statistical analysis.

Community Articles

There were more super scribblings from the Community this week.

Hutch_James provided another excellent Wisdom of the Crowd, FPL Paulius looked at Gameweek 4 captains and Greyhead examined the fortunes of some elite FPL managers.

Community Tournaments

RedLightning continued his impressive start to the season to consolidate his lead at the top of the FFS Mods and Cons league. Chris James crept above TorresMagic into second, meanwhile.

1. RedLightning – 270 points
2. Chris James – 252 points
3. TorresMagic – 238 points
4. Ragabolly – 232 points
5. Geoff – 229 points

Scott Macalister is the new leader of our public FantasyFootballScout league – and has done it all without using a chip. Scott is actually tied with Cosmin Rotaru and Warren Lim (who are joint-second) but has made fewer transfers.

1. Scott Macalister – 277 points
2=. Warren Lim – 277 points
2=. Cosmin Rotaru – 277 points
4. Jasem Alturki – 276 points
5. Andy Parsons – 274 points

Nick Howard still leads the FFS Members league. Having played his Bench Boost chip in Gameweek 1, he followed that up with a Wildcard in Gameweek 2 and is now ranked 28th in the world. Our very own moderator RedLightning is also up to third.

1. Nick Howard – 281 points
2. Ryan Brazell – 271 points
3. RedLightning – 270 points
4. Graeme Bye – 269 points
5. Luke Pickering – 268 points

Meanwhile, Andrew Garland is the new leader of RedLightning‘s Top 10k Any Season mini-league, three points ahead of the league’s creator. Pete Bullingham and Francisco Lamarque are actually tied in third.

1. Andrew Garland – 273 points
2. RedLightning – 270 points
3=. Pete Bullingham – 266 points
3=. Francisco Lamarque – 266 points
5. Luke Aiello – 259 points

Your defence definitely needs some upgrading in future weeks, but nothig you can do with 0.4 now. Save and use 2 FT's to downgrade Eriksen and upgrade a defender next week imo.

I will have one player not playing this week if Tomkins doesn’t play. I’m also relying on Kamara to play. So that’s two big risks right there. Should I take a hit to get a playing defender like holgate / zouma in? (From Peltier Who is a non player)

Surely it's to be saved for a DGW - what's the thinking behind using it in a single, other than he's playing fodder?

      1. XabiAlonso
        • 11 Years

Single gameweekers have outscored dgw players the last 2 seasons

        1. Ady87
          • 12 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

Yeah, the big names will get the odd hatty and if you catch it right, great, but the right DGW SHOULD yield more. They aren't a given though and rotation often ruins the parade I know that.

        2. Pierce34
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

Wrong. The two highest scores in 2016/17 were Kane and Sanchez, both in a DGW.

      2. The Bandit
        • 15 Years

Because rotation is rife in a dgw. And many of us suffered with Kane dgw last season

          • 12 Years

Yeah last season my TC failed in a DGW and BB is potentially the better shout.

        2. Pierce34
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

He wasn't rotated though - started both games. (unless you mean the New Years DGW, where he was benched in the first game due to illness, which had nothing to do with rotation)

      3. Norfolk&Chance
        • 12 Years
        7 years, 11 months ago

Mainly in my experience is that in dgw Kun and other big players are more likely to be subbed early or be rotated etc. Dgw are the ones I tend to use bench boost... so not had much luck with my TC in the... not sure though... think I'll go for it this week with TC

By all means go for TC, but it's wrong to claim they're often failures, because as I said they haven't been (despite last year).

Bottomed, could do with a couple of opinions on this. Cheers to the guy replying A for Neves potential anyone else?

    A) Hamer 2nd GK & Neves 5th Mid (Got Ederson)
    B) £4.5 2nd GK & £4.5m 5th Mid (Guendouzi etc)

        Ederson
        Alonso Mendy Robertson

Possibly. I'm not yet sure who the best long-term pick is of the two, but I probably prefer Mitrovic. I wouldn't tie up valuable funds on the bench though - you will need it at some point, even if it's not now.

Can’t decide who to bring in for Rich so considering starting AWB this week...

    Fab
    Mendy, Robertson, Coleman, AWB
    Salah, Mane, Mhki
    Aguero, Arnie, Mitro.

GTG? Would then do Rich/Coleman -> Fraser/Alonso for free next GW? (Don’t want to take a hit this week as wouldn’t play Fraser & Coleman night finally get something!)

    Thoughts please!!

If you're going into next week with rich you might as well just bench him for 1 more week

Have seen a few people contemplating TC on aguero but why not TC on hazard this week? Everyone is scrambling to get him in surely worth a go if he is essential

Agüero is far more likely to score 15+ points, Hazard has never really been that explosive

If you have Chels coverage then definitely AWB and Wally. Either way I can think that combo still edges it

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GAMEWEEK 3 RESULTS

Well, we have good news and we have bad news! Good news is we are now up to date! Bad news is this is unfortunately because the data I had for GW2 included GW1, and there was no way to separate the data without a manual reconciliation. Unfortunately I don't quite have the time to analyse every player in the game, so I've had to begin results from gameweek 3 in the interest of ease. Apologies guys it was a mishap on my part, but hopefully this shouldn't happen again.

Onside 9 - I did see your message today. If there is a way to automate further I'd be happy to discuss!

    ***** GAMEWEEK RESULTS *****

    1st - Apples...Oranges (74pts) [3pts]
Top 4% - The Tinkerman, Ramboros, Expected Toulouse (67pts) [2pts]
    Top 10% - Tibbles (65pts), MB10 (62pts), Deulofail, FFS Scout (61pts) [1pt]

A Manager Has No Name unfortunately missed out on 60pts, and last season's winner Camara failed to make the points at all.

The FFS Scout and Differential picks scored a total of 64, therefore the top 4% all get a bonus point!

    ***** THE STANDINGS *****

As you can imagine, the standings are:

    1st - Apples...Oranges (4pts)
    2nd - The Tinkerman, Ramboros (3pts)

Are you seriously saying that you cannot add up the entries for GW2? According to my back of fag packet calculations based on the entries on the thread, I had the top score.

Doesn't my 65 points also get a bonus point for beating 64? Not that it'll make much difference by end of season

When Richarlison got injured Pedro was going straight in, then I realised Walcott was the better bet, then Moura turned my head... repeated this procedure couple of times a day since Monday. I've come to the conclusion im going with Walcott...maybe Pedro

Don't just don't throw more players in the mix!

Walcott because he will be a key player in an attacking team with good fixtures..but Pedro is a better player in a better team but could be the sideshow to Hazard...but Moura has the form and is playing very advanced. Easy really isn't it.

Watford are hardly a good team lol

The problem here is everyone copies each other and no one has the balls to make their own decisions.

He's sort of playing as a second striker for one of the better attacks on the league, is 7.1 and has dreams fixtures after Liverpool. Is Son a threat to him?

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GAMEWEEK 4

Lets bring it on! Onside 9 - if you see this, please feel free to get in touch somehow! I'd love to learn about automating the process.

    GW3 results: https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/18788516

    ****** WHAT IS IT? ******

For those of you who haven't been around or aren't aware, every evening prior to the start of the gameweek FFS releases their picks of players for the gameweek, "Scout Picks", as well as 3 differentials before the first games to separate yourself from the crowd.

This is your way to have a bit of fun and challenge those scout picks with a set of your own (read instructions below). This will always open the day before the gameweek starts around 8pm, and whilst you don't have to play weekly, the more you play the better chance you have of winning!

Gameweek winners will also be awarded a spot in the Community Roundup article.

    ****** INSTRUCTIONS ******

Everyone can have their own scout picks (there is no limit on team value) but with one simple rule,

YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE PLAYER FROM EACH TEAM
(yes, two of your players at least will be on opposing teams).

You can only have ONE submission, and your FIRST submission will be what is accepted. You also must respond DIRECTLY to this post (not to a reply on this post). FFS Scout Picks are automatically enrolled. Teams must comply with FPL formation rules and be submitted in an easy to read format, e.g.

    GK
    DEF DEF DEF
    MID MID MID MID
    FOR FOR FOR

Deadline for this gameweek is Sunday 13th May, 2pm.

    ****** SCORING ******

Regardless of number of applicants, scoring will be done by the following:

    1st place: 3 points
Top 4% of the population will rank "second" and score 2 points.
Top 10% of the population will rank "third" and score 1 point.

There is also a bonus point which everyone is eligible for. If you score higher than FFS' Scout Picks AND Differential Picks (i.e. 14 players), you will be awarded with a bonus point regardless of whether you were in the top 10% scoring positions or not.

Welcome to the game, and good luck.

    ***** THE STANDINGS *****
